Taylor Sheridan has lured in another Oscar winner for one of his original series. Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves) stars in Yellowstone, Oscar winner Helen Mirren (The Queen) co-stars with Oscar nominee Harrison Ford in 1923, and now Oscar winner Morgan Freeman (Million Dollar Baby) has signed on to Sheridan’s Special Ops: Lioness.

Freeman joins a cast that is led by Zoe Saldana and includes Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Laysla De Oliveira. Dave Annable, Jill Wagner, LaMonica Garrett, James Jordan, Austin Hébert, Jonah Wharton, Stephanie Nur, and Hannah Love Lanier also star in the dramatic thriller.

The MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios’ production is executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Zoe Saldana, Nicole Kidman, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, Jill Wagner, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Malone, and John Hillcoat.

Freeman was recently seen on television in a guest starring role on The Kominsky Method and in the sci-fi anthology series Solos. He also recently hosted the nonfiction series Great Escapes with Morgan Freeman. Recent film roles include Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, Coming 2 America, and Vanquish.

Paramount+ offered this description of Special Ops: Lioness:

Special Ops: Lioness is based on a real-life CIA program and follows Cruz Manuelos (De Oliveira), a rough-around-the-edges but passionate young Marine recruited to join the CIA’s Lioness Engagement Team to help bring down a terrorist organization from within. Saldaña will play Joe, the station chief of the Lioness program tasked with training, managing and leading her female undercover operatives.

Freeman will play Edwin Mullins, the United States secretary of state.”
