Netflix announced filming is officially underway on the fifth – and final – season of the critically acclaimed, award-winning drama Stranger Things. The streaming service released the first photo from behind the scenes on the much-anticipated (and much-delayed) season five.
The cast of the final season includes Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Finn Wolfhard. Sadie Sink, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Cara Buona, Charlie Heaton, Maya Hawke, and Natalia Dyer also star.
Amybeth McNulty, Brett Gelman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Priah Ferguson, and Linda Hamilton are also a part of the show’s huge ensemble.
“A love letter to the ‘80s classic genre films that captivated a generation, Stranger Things is a thrilling drama set in the seemingly normal Midwestern town of Hawkins, Indiana. After a boy vanishes into thin air, his close-knit group of friends and family search for answers and are pulled into a high-stakes and deadly series of events,” reads Netflix’s synopsis. “Beneath the surface of their ordinary town lurks an extraordinary supernatural mystery, along with top-secret government experiments and a dangerous gateway that connects our world to a powerful yet sinister realm. Friendships will be tested and lives will be altered as what they discover will change Hawkins and possibly the world — forever.”
Ross and Matt Duffer created the popular series, which debuted way back in July 2016. Season two premiered in October 2017, followed by season three in July 2019 and season four in May 2022. Season five is expected to arrive in 2025.
Although the series is ending, the Stranger Things universe will continue with a spinoff and Stranger Things: The First Shadow stage play.
