First Look – ‘True Detective: Night Country’ Drops a Teaser Trailer

The first trailer for season four of HBO’s critically acclaimed True Detective introduces the key players and sets up the adversarial relationship between the lead investigators. Oscar winner Jodie Foster and Kali Reis star in chapter four of the franchise, True Detective: Night Country, which is expected to premiere later this year.

The cast also includes John Hawkes, Christopher Eccleston, Fiona Shaw, Finn Bennett, and Anna Lambe, along with Aka Niviâna, Isabella Star Lablanc, and Joel D. Montgrand. Issa López guides Night Country as writer, director, executive producer, and showrunner.

Jodie Foster, Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, and True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto also executive produce. Additional executive producers include Mari Jo Winkler, Chris Mundy, Alan Page Arriaga, Steve Golin, Richard Brown, Cary Joji Fukunaga, and PASTEL’s Barry Jenkins, Adele Romanski, and Mark Ceryak. Princess Daazhraii Johnson, Cathy Tagnak Rexford, and Sam Breckman serve as producers.

HBO released this description of season four: “When the long winter night falls in Ennis, Alaska, the eight men who operate the Tsalal Arctic Research Station vanish without a trace. To solve the case, Detectives Liz Danvers (Foster) and Evangeline Navarro (Reis) will have to confront the darkness they carry in themselves and dig into the haunted truths that lie buried under the eternal ice.”

Season one premiered in January 2014 and starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams, and Taylor Kitsch took over the lead roles in season two, which debuted in 2015. It took four years before season three arrived, starring Mahershala Ali, Carmen Ejogo, and Stephen Dorff, in January 2019.
