Oscar-winning actor Ernest Borgnine passed away today at the age of 95. The beloved actor who starred in such classic movies as Marty (for which he won the Best Actor Oscar), McHale’s Navy (the film and the TV series), The Dirty Dozen, Ice Station Zebra, The Wild Bunch, and The Poseidon Adventure died of renal failure at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA with his family by his side.

Borgnine served on the Screen Actors Guild Board of Directors in 1962 and again in 1974-1977, and he was awarded the 47th Annual Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award in 2010. Following his passing, SAG issued this statement:

“For six decades, Ernie entertained us with an impressive body of work and, at the age of 95, he continued to have a remarkably busy life and career. We will genuinely miss his smile and generous, joyous spirit. Our deepest sympathies go out to Tova and the Borgnine family,” said SAG-AFTRA Co-President Ken Howard.

Our thoughts are with Ernest Borgnine’s family and friends at this difficult time.
