‘The School for Good and Evil’ Debuts a Teaser Trailer and Poster

The first one-minute teaser trailer for The School for Good and Evil opens by asking if we’ve ever wondered where every great fairy tale begins. “Where the good become heroes? And the evil become villains?” If so, then apparently Netflix’s The School for Good and Evil will deliver some answers.

The fantasy film is based on the international bestseller by Soman Chainani and stars Kerry Washington, Charlize Theron, Sophia Anne Caruso, and Sofia Wylie. Laurence Fishburne, Michelle Yeoh, Jamie Flatters, Kit Young, Peter Serafinowicz, Rob Delaney, Mark Heap, Patti LuPone, and Rachel Bloom also star.

Paul Feig directs and co-wrote the screenplay with Vanessa Taylor and David Magee. Author Chainani is involved as an executive producer along with Stephen Jones, Zack Roth, Chris Castaldi, and Patrician Riggen. Feig, Joe Roth, Jeffrey Kirschenbaum, Jane Startz, and Laura Fischer produce.

The teaser trailer arrived along with a poster and official synopsis:

“In the village of Gavaldon, two misfits and best friends, Sophie (Caruso) and Agatha (Wylie), share the unlikeliest of bonds. Sophie, a lover of fairy tales, dreams of escaping her ordinary village life, while Agatha, with her grim aesthetic, has the makings of a real witch. Then one night under a blood red moon, a powerful force sweeps them away to the School for Good and Evil — where the true story of every great fairy tale begins.

Yet something is amiss from the start: Sophie is dropped into the School for Evil, run by the glamorous and acid-tongued Lady Lesso (Theron), and Agatha in the School for Good, overseen by the sunny and kind Professor Dovey (Washington). As if navigating classes with the offspring of Cinderella, Captain Hook, and the dashing son of King Arthur (Flatters) wasn’t hard enough, according to the Schoolmaster (Fishburne), only true love’s kiss can change the rules and send the girls to their rightful school. But when a dark and dangerous figure (Young) with mysterious ties to Sophie reemerges and threatens to destroy the school and the rulebook entirely — the only way to a happy ending is to survive the fairytale first.”
