Paramount Pictures has just released the final trailer for the crazy action horror film, Overlord. The new minute-long trailer reveals what happens to anyone injected with a serum developed in a secret Nazi lab, and it’s definitely not a pretty sight.
Overlord‘s directed by Julius Avery (2014’s Son of a Gun) from a script by Billy Ray (an Oscar nominee for Captain Phillips) and Mark L. Smith (The Revenant, Vacancy). Bad Robot and J.J. Abrams produced the film along with Lindsey Weber. Jo Burn, Jon Cohen, and Cory Bennett Lewis serve as executive producers. The behind the scenes team includes cinematographers Laurie Rose and Fabian Wagner, editor Matt Evans, production designer Jon Henson, and costumer designer Anna B. Sheppard, with music by Jed Kurzel.
The action horror film’s cast includes Jovan Adepo (Sorry for Your Loss), Wyatt Russell (Lodge 49, Ingrid Goes West), John Magaro (Orange is the New Black), Mathilde Ollivier (The Misfortunes of Francois Jane), Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones), Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo, Underground), Iain De Caestecker (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), and Jacob Anderson (Game of Thrones).
Paramount Pictures will release Overlord in theaters and IMAX on November 9, 2018. The MPAA has rated the film R for strong bloody violence, disturbing images, language, and brief sexual content.
The Overlord Plot:
“With only hours until D-Day, a team of American paratroopers drop into Nazi-occupied France to carry out a mission that’s crucial to the invasion’s success. Tasked with destroying a radio transmitter atop a fortified church, the desperate soldiers join forces with a young French villager to penetrate the walls and take down the tower. But, in a mysterious Nazi lab beneath the church, the outnumbered G.I.s come face-to-face with enemies unlike any the world has ever seen. From producer J.J. Abrams, Overlord is a thrilling, pulse-pounding action adventure with a twist.”

Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle cast members and executive producers took part in a panel at the New York Comic Con in support of the show’s third season. The new season premieres on Friday, October 5, 2018 and with it comes a word of warning for those who aren’t necessarily into binge-watching. Prepare yourselves for being unable to turn season three off before you make it through the season finale. Season three of The Man in the High Castle is absolutely spellbinding.
Among the cast members who participated in the season three panel at the NYCC were Rufus Sewell (‘Obergruppenfuhrer John Smith’) and Joel de la Fuente (‘Inspector Kido’). Paired together for roundtable interviews, de la Fuente and Sewell discussed their characters’ journeys, what it is that drives Sewell’s John Smith in season three, and life on the set of the riveting drama.
The show’s a drama but it’s also a sneaky heavy special effects show. What’s your interaction been with the green screen and effects elements?
Joel de la Fuente: “I’ve never seen bigger green screens. They are like two or three stories high sometimes.”
Rufus Sewell: “It takes a lot of green to turn Vancouver into New York, as often as we do.”
Joel de la Fuente: “And San Francisco putting hills in. The fleet and the German aircraft.”
Rufus Sewell: “But it’s not as discombobulating as green screen can be because whatever can be real is real. We work on a real set and there will be green (screens). It’s not…I’ve experienced it where you’re just basically in a green room. […] We’ll still have all of the stuff that brings a reality to a scene and that is so believably detailed. We have a tremendous advantage.”
Joel de la Fuente: “But, also, it’s not just the set. It’s that often in these situations the intention is to call attention to the effects. With us, a lot of it is character-based so we have the opportunity that, yes, we’re standing in a green screen but we have relationships to focus on to act with. So, that makes it a sort of a thrill.”
What do you think is John’s primary driving force in season three?
Rufus Sewell: “It’s never changed. His driving force has never been personal ambition. That’s like an offshoot. The more danger his family is in, the more it looks like he continues in power – and greater power. The more danger he’s in, the more he needs to cling to the machine that’s putting him in danger.
The reason he made every choice is, ill-advised possibly, but in a very, very difficult situation facing choices that most of us would never hope to face, he’s always sided with what he believed was the side that would protect his family. And, in the circumstances, the best moral choice. I don’t believe he made the right choices, but I believe he believed he did at the time. Not to say that he’s not capable of lying to himself and sustaining a false narrative to keep him going, like people do.
But I think his intention has always been the safety of his family. That’s why when Thomas is taken away, it’s necessary to not have him there. Because if he was there, he wouldn’t think twice about doing whatever he could to save him. He’d never harm his son. His whole point is to protect his son, whatever it takes. You pick up a gun, you do this, you do that – that’s his primary super objective.”
Has Smith’s sense of identity changed in terms of dealing with Thomas?
Rufus Sewell: “I think when what happens to Thomas happens, I think he becomes even more split and divided from exterior to interior. It pushes him further into himself. I think his interior is angry, betrayed, rageful, guilt-ridden, dangerous. I think he hugely resents the machinery that’s done this to his child. He resents himself and feels culpable, but he has to make the appearance of moving the direction of the opposite. So, all these feelings are very, very confused.
But I don’t think he’s without enormous resentment towards the society that lionizes his son and bastardizes his memory and turns him into this poster child which is a lie – a hideous lie. They’re using him. I think on his inside he feels what his wife is feeling on the outside, but he has to keep it together.”
Does he have any regrets about his choices?
Rufus Sewell: “Of course. I think he wrestles with it because it’s not easy. It’s not like, ‘Oh, I should have done this,’ because there is no easy obvious (choice). I think he feels an enormous amount of responsibility and regret. But the other choice is not obvious.”

What gets you into the mode of John Smith?
Rufus Sewell: “I don’t know. Being in the room. I try to be in the mode of myself as much as possible when I play John Smith because so much will happen for you in that situation. I want to concentrate on not seeing my behavior so as we can get to something more true, because it’s very tempting to fall into the nearest available characteristic behaviors, just from other movies we’ve watched, from other actors. So, whenever I remember to do the opposite of the Nazi-ish thing, like if I get a knife and fork with my food, ‘Can I eat it with my hands instead?’ If ever I get something on a plate, ‘Could I have it in Tupperware?’ Whatever…those things. I need to remind myself because if you forget, you move towards the cliché because we’re so used to it. So that’s what I try, in many ways, to be myself.”
How are your characters evolving and changing over the course of the third season?
Joel de la Fuente: “Kido has just survived an explosion at the end of season two, so I think there’s sort of a level of trauma and personal responsibility he feels having survived it and also being somewhat responsible for the cause of it. So, it’s that journey, the journey to sort of move past that and to sort of address whatever his honor demands to make sure he pays the debt that needs to be paid for. That is a major driving force in the season.”
Do you ever find time to have fun on the set or is it just all work and no play?
Rufus Sewell: “No, for me work is play. It’s all play unless you’re doing a comedy in which case it’s really serious. But with something like this, I know it’s dangerous to talk about because you risk sounding perverse because the subject matter. But I find the more heavy and the more intense…I mean, I’m pretty silly anyway…but you do find yourself larking about a lot. We get on. It’s a really remarkably nice bunch of people who really believe in what they do. It’s a pleasant working environment, surprisingly. And we all really believe morally in what we’re doing. We believe that the heart behind this show is in the right place.”
Joel de la Fuente: “Honestly, in order to portray the actions and events that happened in this piece, it’s sort of like closing your eyes before you know you have to keep them open for a long time. You need to laugh. You need to lighten your spirit before you go into the heaviness of it.”
Rufus Sewell: “It might sound a little bit strange but actually there’s method to the madness…possibly.”
We heard something about you doing a ballet in full Nazi regalia.

Shonda Rhimes celebrates the 100th episode of ABC’s ‘Scandal’ (ABC/Todd Wawrychuk)
Blake Crouch’s upcoming novel Recursion is being adapted into a feature film and, as Netflix describes it, a “television universe.” Netflix made the announcement and confirmed multiple projects based on the book are in development with Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beer’s Shondaland and Matt Reeves’ 6th & Idaho.
The book isn’t expect to hit stores until June 11, 2019. Crouch’s previous novels include the Wayward Pines trilogy which was made into a Fox series by M. Night Shyamalan. TNT currently has a series based on Crouch’s Good Behavior novellas starring Michelle Dockery (Downton Abbey).
“I have been a fan of Shonda’s and Matt’s work going back years,” said Crouch, commenting on the deal. “To have these titans of television and film working on something of mine is an incredible honor, and Netflix is the pitch-perfect home for people who want to adapt film and TV in the most innovative way possible.”
In 2017, Rhimes and Shondaland moved to Netflix to work on creating new shows. “Projects like this are why I came to Netflix,” stated Shonda Rhimes. “The opportunity to explore a multi-genre universe in innovative ways is extremely exciting. Matt and Blake both have the tremendous ability to build compelling characters and imaginative landscapes and I am thrilled to work alongside them.”
Matt Reeves has signed a first-look deal with Netflix for any feature films he’s directing or producing under his 6th & Idaho banner. Discussing the Recursion project, Reeves said, “Blake’s mind-bending novel presents an incredible opportunity to explore its expansive narrative simultaneously through both film and television. Netflix is uniquely suited for this ambitious undertaking and I can’t imagine a more exciting partner than the astonishingly talented Shonda Rhimes whose work I have admired for years.”
The Recursion Plot:
At once a relentless save-the-world sci-fi thriller, an epic romance, and an intricate police procedural, Recursion explores what happens when a brilliant female scientist invents a powerful technology that allows people not just to reactivate their most visceral memories but to reinvent them entirely. For some, it offers the chance to rewrite their entire lives. In the wrong hands, it will upend the world as we know it.
The official trailer for Marvel’s Daredevil season three finds Matt Murdock admitting that while he was trying to help people, he was actually only fooling himself. “Darkness only responds to darkness,” declares Daredevil (Charlie Cox).
The two and a half minute trailer also reveals Wilson Fisk has cut a deal and is out of prison, and he’s claiming he’s a new man. Now free, he blames the violence taking over the city on none other than Daredevil, turning citizens against the masked vigilante.
In addition to Charlie Cox, the cast of season three includes Vincent D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk), Elden Henson (Foggy Nelson), Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page), Joanne Whalley (Sister Maggie), Wilson Bethel (Benjamin Poindexter) and Jay Ali (Rahul “Ray” Nadeem).
Marvel’s Daredevil season three is set to premiere worldwide October 19, 2018 on Netflix. Erik Oleson (The Man in the High Castle) is this season’s showrunner and serves as an executive producer.
The Marvel’s Daredevil Season 3 Synopsis:
“The highly anticipated new season of the conspiracy-thriller explores how an iconic villain returns to power, and the darker path taken by a crushed hero, who finds himself – and a Daredevil imposter – at the center of the tyrant’s plan.
Missing for months, Matt Murdock (Cox) reemerges a broken man, putting into question his future as both vigilante Daredevil and lawyer Matthew Murdock. But when his archenemy Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) is released from prison, Matt must choose between hiding from the world or embracing his destiny as a hero.”

In the latest video from Summit’s Hunter Killer, cast members Gerard Butler (Olympus Has Fallen) and Oscar winner Gary Oldman (Best Actor for Darkest Hour) discuss working on the submarine thriller. The U.S. Navy assisted the cast and director Donovan Marsh in realistically bringing to the screen a story set on board a submarine. The Navy sent a subject matter expert to work with the cast on their lines and to learn how the Navy operates.
The film’s based on the book Firing Point by retired naval officer George Wallace and author Don Keith, with Arne L. Schmidt adapting it for the screen.
“It’s absolute necessity to have someone here who has actually been on submarines and knows the protocol,” said Gary Oldman about the Navy’s involvement in the project.
“The Navy was tremendously generous in giving us a real nuclear submarine,” explained director Donovan Marsh. “We shot on the submarine with a real crew. And then we needed to take a submarine out to sea so I could film it out in the water.”
According to Captain Russell Coons, the Pentagon’s War Room Advisor, Hunter Killer marks the first time a Virginia-class submarine appears in a feature film.
Discussing his preparation for the film, Gerard Butler said, “I also went out on a submarine underway. As the captain of a nuclear sub, I was taken through every part of the sub which is a city unlike anything else I’ve ever seen. It blows my mind.”
Butler also described the amount of detail put into the design of the submarine. “We had a team go to Pearl Harbor and they did a blueprint exactly of those subs, and then they were recreated.” He added, “You have the navigation charts, you have the periscope screens, you have all the sonar screens and you’re literally, ‘I’m on a sub. I’m in a control room on a sub.'”
The cast of the action thriller also includes Oscar winner Common (Best Original Song, Selma), Linda Cardellini (Avengers: Age of Ultron), and Toby Stephens (Die Another Day).
Hunter Killer is set to open in theaters on October 26, 2018.
Hunter Killer Plot:
Deep under the Arctic Ocean, American submarine Captain Joe Glass (Butler) is on the hunt for a U.S. sub in distress when he discovers a secret Russian coup is in the offing, threatening to dismantle the world order. Captain Glass must now assemble an elite group of Navy SEALs to rescue the kidnapped Russian president and sneak through enemy waters to stop WWIII.
Since making his debut in The CW’s The Flash season four, Hartley Sawyer’s quickly become a fan favorite. His character, Ralph Dibny/Elongated Man, was so popular with fans that Sawyer’s been elevated to a series regular for the show’s fifth season.
The cast of The Flash are San Diego Comic Con veterans, however the 2018 Con marked Hartley Sawyer’s first time joining Team Flash at the sold-out convention. During our roundtable interviews, he talked about his experiences with fans as well as his hopes for Ralph in season five.
Congratulations on becoming a series regular on the show.
Hartley Sawyer: “Thank you. It always feels good to be regular.”
Since you’ll have more time with Ralph, are there any aspects of him you hope you get to play with more this season?
Hartley Sawyer: “Detective. The detective aspect of the character is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. That’s something that we’re definitely going to get into this year. It’s a big, big aspect of the character and I’m really excited about it.”
Will there be a new version of the Elongated Man suit this season?
Hartley Sawyer: “We actually haven’t talked about that. That’s a really, really interesting idea and it gave me an idea for a change. I love that you just said that. But, we haven’t talked about that – but that’s a really interesting idea.”
Are we going to see more of the Ralph and Barry dynamic that we saw from last season? At first, they almost couldn’t stand each other but then they became like brothers.
Hartley Sawyer: “That’s sort of what they are. I don’t think we’re going to see as much of that, at least in the first part of the season, because he’s going to be up to his eyeballs with Nora – with his daughter. They’re going to be figuring that out.
I think he and Ralph developed each other the way they needed to where they could be more self-sufficient. I would love to do more of that, but everybody can’t always get loads of time on the show. It would be nice, but it’s just not the way it works. So, I think we’ll get some of that but not as much as last year.”
Since Barry’s going to be so busy, who do you hope Ralph interacts with more on the show?
Hartley Sawyer: “I would love to see…there’s going to be a lot of Ralph and Caitlin, which I really like. I think that’s a really sweet relationship and friendship that they have. There’s going to be a lot of Ralph and Cisco since they’re bachelors now and single.
I would love to see, we haven’t talked about it but I would love to see Ralph and Joe West. I just want to see those guys. There’s a lot there. I mean, Joe’s known Ralph for a really, really long time. He knows who he is and what he’s capable of and everything. He was the first person who ever defended Ralph to anybody anyway in the first episode that Ralph came in.”
And Ralph had a major impact on Joe when he was about to cross that line.
Hartley Sawyer: “Great scene. That was such a pivotal scene for the character. That was something that really kind of drew the line in the sand, I think, for a lot of viewers and for me as an actor. I was like, ‘Cool. This is really going to dig into who this guy really is.’ There’s a lot more there than just the wackiness.
But I would love to see more of that Joe stuff. I thought that was a great, fun scene and I love working with Jesse (L. Martin) because he’s awesome. I’d love to see more of that.”
What’s Ralph’s main focus this season?
Hartley Sawyer: “I think finding his place in the team now that he’s back. Last year was all about, like, ‘Am I a hero? Can I do this? Can I not do this?’ But it’s now about finding his place in the team and really what that means to him and what he can bring to the team.”
Does the new season feel any different given the changes behind the scenes?
Hartley Sawyer: “It just feels like the same thing going to work. It really does. It feels like the same thing as last year – just like a natural progression of things. I know the scripts changed a little bit, the tone’s changed a little bit.
The reason this show works is because of the people working together. Working with Grant (Gustin), working with Carlos (Valdes), working with Tom – all those people. Those relationships are always there. I think that’s why this show worked in the first place. I really do. I mean even going back way, way before my time here. It’s because these people really like each other and they’re all really good people and they get along. I think that came through on camera and on TV screens. I really, really do.
When I would watch it I was like, ‘This is really cool.’ I didn’t expect it to be as cool and as great as it was, and it became phenomenal. It’s because of those relationships. Those will always be there so there is that throughline through each season.”
What’s your experience been like with the passionate fandom?
Hartley Sawyer: “It’s been really fun. People do the conventions, the autograph conventions, and I did my first one this past summer. I was super nervous about it and it was one of the most incredible experiences that I’ve had because what it was just so many people coming up being like, ‘I love this. I love this show.’ Or, ‘I went through this really hard thing in my life and the first time I smiled was watching this show when your face fell off.’
I was like, ‘Wow, what more can you ask for than just letting people forget their worries and just tune out and enjoy yourselves. That’s very special to me and that’s been my experience with the fandom is they love it. Love it. I grew up a comic book fan too, so I love all this stuff as well. It’s exciting to be a part of it.”
DC Universe hosted the world premiere of the new live-action series Titans at the New York Comic Con on October 3, 2018. Fans in attendance at the screening in advance of the series’ October 12th debut were treated to news on two additional DC Universe projects: Doom Patrol and Harley Quinn.
The Big Bang Theory‘s Kaley Cuoco has come on board Harley Quinn to voice the titular character. Cuoco and her Yes, Norman Productions will also be executive producing the animated series along with Justin Halpern, Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey.
A special video for the Harley Quinn series was shown at the NYCC Titans screening (see above) followed by a surprise appearance by Cuoco herself.
Cuoco is joining a voice cast that includes Lake Bell (Wet Hot American Summer series), Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story), Ron Funches (Powerless), JB Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Jason Alexander (Seinfeld), Wanda Sykes (black-ish), and Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul). Natalie Morales (Bojack Horseman), Jim Rash (Mike Tyson Mysteries), Diedrich Bader (Veep), Tony Hale (Arrested Development), and Chris Meloni (Happy!) also lend their voices to the DC Universe series.
DC Universe’s Doom Patrol also broke casting news at the New York Comic Con’s Titans screening. Brendan Fraser, the voice of the series’ Robotman (he’s also playing Cliff Steele in flashback scenes), was on hand to break the news Matt Bomer has signed on to the Doom Patrol cast.
Per DC Universe’s official casting announcement, “Bomer will provide the voiceover performance for the character of Negative Man, and he will also appear as Larry Trainor in flashback scenes. Bomer further surprised fans with a special video greeting from the Atlanta-based set, exclusively for those in attendance at NYCC.”
It was also confirmed Matthew Zuk will provide the physical performance of Negative Man on the set in costume. Riley Shanahan is handling Robotman’s physical performance. (This will make much more sense when the series premieres.)
The cast of Doom Patrol also includes Joivan Wade as Victor Stone/Cyborg, Timothy Dalton as Niles Caulder/The Chief, April Bowlby as Elasti-Woman, Diane Guerrero as Crazy Jane, and Alan Tudyk as Mr. Nobody.

The Doom Patrol Plot:
“Doom Patrol is a re-imagining of one of DC’s most beloved group of outcast Super Heroes: Robotman, Negative Man, Elasti-Girl and Crazy Jane, led by modern-day mad scientist Dr. Niles Caulder (The Chief). The Doom Patrol’s members each suffered horrible accidents that gave them superhuman abilities — but also left them scarred and disfigured. Traumatized and downtrodden, the team found purpose through The Chief, who brought them together to investigate the weirdest phenomena in existence — and to protect Earth from what they find.
Part support group, part Super Hero team, the Doom Patrol is a band of super-powered freaks who fight for a world that wants nothing to do with them. Picking up after the events of Titans, Doom Patrol will find these reluctant heroes in a place they never expected to be, called to action by none other than Cyborg, who comes to them with a mission hard to refuse, but with a warning that is hard to ignore: their lives will never, ever be the same.”
