Death Note Poster

Netflix’s upcoming original film Death Note has just released a new character poster. The poster depicts “L,” played by Lakeith Stanfield. The cast of the film based on the popular Japanese manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata also includes Nat Wolff (Paper Towns), Margaret Qualley (The Leftovers), Paul Nakauchi (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Shea Whigham (American Hustle), and Willem Dafoe (Spider-Man) as the voice of Ryuk.

Netflix will be premiering Death Note directed by Adam Wingard (Blair Witch) on August 25, 2017.

The Plot: Death Note follows a high school student who comes across a supernatural notebook, realizing it holds within it a great power; if the owner inscribes someone’s name into it while picturing their face, he or she will die. Intoxicated with his new godlike abilities, the young man begins to kill those he deems unworthy of life.

A&E Network wants much more of the live original series, Live PD, ordering an additional 100 episodes of the popular show. The extended episode order brings the total to 142 and means Live PD will air into 2018. The series is executive produced by Dan Cesareo, David Doss, George McTeague, Kara Kurcz, John Zito, Elaine Frontain Bryant, Shelly Tatro, and Sean Gottlieb.

Live PD airs on Fridays and Saturdays at 9pm ET/PT. The first season’s been averaging 1.4 million viewers and ratings are up 92% since its premiere. The series currently ranks #1 among original cable programs adult viewers on Fridays and Saturdays.

Live PD is emblematic of the type of groundbreaking nonfiction content A&E is committed to delivering to our viewers, and the outstanding success of the series has been a key contributor to the growth of the network at a time when the industry at large continues to experience viewership erosion,” said Elaine Frontain Bryant, Executive Vice President & Head of Programming, A&E. “We are very pleased to continue our partnership with the team at Big Fish, our host Dan Abrams, our analyst Tom Morris Jr., our studio and field crew across the country, as well as the communities and law enforcement agencies who have opened their doors to our viewers for an unfettered glimpse of the policing of America.”

“The success of Live PD is a testament to the incredible collaboration, dedication and boldness everyone involved has brought to the table. We’re grateful to A&E for giving us the opportunity to continue to bring unprecedented access in policing to viewers in this way, and to the entire production team who go above and beyond to make each episode the ultimate ride-along,” stated Big Fish Entertainment President and founder Dan Cesareo.

The Plot: Hosted by Dan Abrams with analysis from Tom Morris Jr., Live PD showcases the policing of America, following diverse police departments from across the country in real time as they patrol their communities. Using dash cams along with fixed rig and handheld cameras, the series captures the work of a varied mix of urban and rural police forces on a typical Friday and Saturday night. Abrams and Morris guide viewers through the night giving insight to what audiences are seeing in real time, bouncing between the featured police departments and offering an inside look at each live episode. Live PD also features law enforcement officers from the series who appear in-studio as guest analysts to provide additional commentary.

FX Networks is inviting Legion fans to check out the “Sessions: The Legion Mixed Reality Experience” during the 2017 San Diego Comic Con. The Legion exhibit will be part of the network’s huge FXHibition set up in front of the San Diego Hilton Bayfront Park right next door to the Convention Center. The massive FXHibition will feature immersive art experiences based on Legion, American Horror Story, The Strain, and Atlanta.

The FXHibition will be open during the sold-out 2017 San Diego Comic Con running July 19-23rd. Reservations for the “Sessions: The Legion Mixed Reality Experience,” the FXHibition’s main feature, will be available beginning July 17th via LegionSessions.com.

Legion IMR Experience Comic Con

Per FX Networks: “Sessions: The Legion Mixed Reality Experience” will transport fans into the headspace of David Haller, where they will be able to interact with his world and test the boundaries of their own reality. Fans will go through key scenes as seen in Legion season 1, and for the first time, get a sneak peek into season 2. In addition to full use of Microsoft’s HoloLens, the MR experience will feature real-life actors throughout the experience for a full emergence into the world of Legion.

The Legion Plot: Legion, based on the Marvel Comics by Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz, is the story of David Haller (Dan Stevens), a troubled young man who may be more than human. Diagnosed as schizophrenic as a child, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. Now in his early 30s and institutionalized once again, David loses himself in the rhythm of the structured regimen of life in the hospital: breakfast, lunch, dinner, therapy, medications, sleep. David spends the rest of his time in companionable silence alongside his chatterbox friend Lenny (Aubrey Plaza), a fellow patient whose life-long drug and alcohol addiction has done nothing to quell her boundless optimism that her luck is about to change. The pleasant numbness of David’s routine is completely upended with the arrival of a beautiful and troubled new patient named Syd (Rachel Keller). Inexplicably drawn to one another, David and Syd share a startling encounter, after which David must confront the shocking possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees may actually be real.

A haunted man, David escapes from the hospital and seeks shelter with his sister Amy (Katie Aselton). But Amy’s concern for her brother is trumped by her desire to protect the picture perfect suburban life she’s built for herself. Eventually, Syd guides David to Melanie Bird (Jean Smart), a nurturing but demanding therapist with a sharp mind and unconventional methods. She and her team of specialists – Ptonomy (Jeremie Harris), Kerry (Amber Midthunder) and Cary (Bill Irwin) – open David’s eyes to an extraordinary new world of possibilities.

‘The Umbrella Academy’ Series in the Works at Netflix

The Umbrella Academy

Netflix is bringing The Umbrella Academy comics written by Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) and illustrated by Gabriel Bá to life as a live-action series. Netflix has greenlit a 10 episode season one with Fargo‘s Steve Blackman on board as showrunner. Blackman’s also executive producing the series with Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg, and Gerard Way will be involved as a co-executive producer. The Exorcist‘s Jeremy Slater wrote the pilot script based on the Eisner award-winning comic book series.

The Umbrella Academy series is expected to premiere sometime in 2018.

“I am thrilled that The Umbrella Academy has found a home at Netflix. I couldn’t think of a better place for the vision Gabriel Bá and myself had when creating the comic, and cannot wait for people to experience that world as a live action show,” said Gerard Way.

“What drew us to The Umbrella Academy is that it’s wholly unique, visual and stylized,” stated Cindy Holland, Vice President, Original Content for Netflix. “These aren’t the usual superheroes, and this series will embrace the singular tone of the graphic novels — dark yet humorous, supernatural yet grounded in reality. We’re excited to see this world and introduce these unforgettable heroes to Netflix members around the globe.”

The Plot: The Umbrella Academy is a live action series that follows the estranged members of a dysfunctional family of superheroes (The Umbrella Academy) — The Monocle, Spaceboy, The Kraken, The Rumor, The Séance, Number Five, The Horror, and The White Violin — as they work together to solve their father’s mysterious death while coming apart at the seams due to their divergent personalities and abilities. Published by Dark Horse Comics, the comic series garnered much praise from fans and critics alike for its alternate and twisted take on the superhero genre.
