Claire Holt and Mandy Moore star in ’47 Meters Down.’
Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures just released the official trailer and poster for the thriller 47 Meters Down. The trailer has a The Shallows feel to it, substituting surfing for scuba diving and Blake Lively with Mandy Moore (This Is It) and Claire Holt (The Originals). Co-written and directed by Johannes Roberts, the 47 Meters Down cast also includes Matthew Modine. Expect to see the underwater action film in theaters on June 16, 2017.
The Plot: On the rebound after a devastating break-up, Lisa (Moore) is ready for adventure while on vacation in Mexico. Even still, she needs a little extra persuasion when her daring sister Kate (Holt) suggests they go shark diving with some locals. Once underwater in a protective cage, Lisa and Kate catch a once in a lifetime, face-to-face look at majestic Great Whites. But when their worst fears are realized and the cage breaks away from their boat, they find themselves plummeting to the bottom of the seabed, too deep to radio for help without making themselves vulnerable to the savage sharks, their oxygen supplies rapidly dwindling.
Baby drama is in full force in season 12 episode 19 of The CW’s Supernatural. Time is running out for a solution to be found. This is clear from the beginning as we see Kelly (Courtney Ford) appearing miserable, broken, and about to pop at any time. Dagon (Ali Ahn) is keeping her well enough to be a good container for the baby, but she is clearly done being nice about it. There’s no attempt at hiding the fact that she and Lucifer could not care less about what happens to the pregnant woman, only that the child is born. When left alone again, Kelly makes a decision while preparing to take a bath. Giving the child a heartfelt apology that they will never be together, she slits her wrist, letting her life flow out of her and dying.
Sam (Jared Padalecki) is deep into a project back at the bunker trying to figure out when the Nephilim will be born, using lore to estimate it will be around May 18th. At that moment, Castiel (Misha Collins) shows up at the bunker. Dean (Jensen Ackles) is angry about the angel ignoring their phone calls. He tries explaining that he was in Heaven working with the angels to come up with a plan to deal with Kelly’s baby. This isn’t good news to Dean, who states that they had a shot at Dagon which might have turned out differently if he had been there to help them, then storms off.
Castiel goes to Dean’s room a bit later and apologizes. Dean says he can’t just disappear like that, they were worried about him and that is not okay. Cas explains that he didn’t mean to make things worse for them, but he feels like he is always failing. He needed to come back with a win, for them and for himself. Dean mentions that Sam is working on a way to get rid of the baby without harming Kelly. However, Castiel asks if it comes down to it, will they be able to kill an innocent? The response is that they will find a better way, all three of them.
Meanwhile, Dagon returns to Kelly only to find a bathtub filled with bloody water and the woman curled up in a corner, alive. She says the baby wouldn’t let her die, looking more hopeful than she has in a long time. Kelly is convinced that her baby isn’t evil because he saved her. Dagon is quick to try and ruin those thoughts, claiming the baby didn’t save her, he saved himself. The demon has plans after Kelly’s demise to raise the child at Lucifer’s side and nurture his evil.
Back at home, Sam and Dean do some more brainstorming, considering the ability to track the Nephilim since they can’t track Dagon. They consider a spell they’d worked on before to track an angel, the non-human part of the baby, only they know the spell never worked. Then Sam has a brilliant idea, the tracking spell may not have worked but they can remove the child’s grace, making him human. Confident in the plan, Dean goes to tell Cas but he’s gone yet again.
It turns out the angel was just there for the Colt as we find him meeting up with another angel, Kelvin (Nathan Mitchell), and giving him the gun. It only has two bullets in it but he wasn’t exactly able to ask for more. Kelvin is confident anyway, saying that soon the whole problem will be over and Castiel’s reputation will be improved. That isn’t his main concern though, this is about helping the Winchesters. He will kill the girl so they don’t have to. So the two angels, along with one more, sneak into the house where they know the women are hiding. Only Dagon is prepared, fighting two of them while Castiel finds Kelly.
He succeeds in his search but is unable to kill her, taking off with the woman instead. She knows what his intention was and thanks him for not following through. Castiel tells her not to thank him though, he had a mission and he failed. Now he doesn’t know what he’s doing except getting them away from Dagon.
It certainly doesn’t take long for Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino) to realize something is wrong and to contact the princess of Hell to find out what happened. She is forced to explain who took Kelly and the child. As expected, he’s furious, threatening unbelievable torments if she doesn’t find them. Dagon swears she will right before it is revealed that she has a new captive, Kelvin.
The next day, Castiel leaves Kelly alone in the truck to contact Joshua and get his new orders. When he returns, the angel explains that he couldn’t kill her before but he will now. He will take her to Heaven, a trip that no human can make and live, resulting in their souls ascending while their bodies perish on Earth. The child is too dangerous and could destroy the world. She corrects that maybe the child could actually save the world but he isn’t willing to take that risk. His intent’s to take her to the sandbox, the entrance to Heaven, when the truck won’t start.
Castiel gets them a motel room while trying to figure out how to fix the truck. Kelly isn’t ready to give up, confessing to the angel about her suicide. She had died, her son had saved her, and in that moment she’d felt his soul surge through her…and it was good. Cas still says that isn’t proof since the child still needs her alive at this point.
However, she feels that she is part of a greater plan, a plan for good. Castiel doesn’t believe in plans anymore though, everyone is just winging it. There is no plan, Lucifer only wants chaos and destruction. She wasn’t chosen for a reason, she was just there. He also says that she won’t survive the birth. And who will take care of the baby then, keeping him on the righteous path? The discussion is paused when the baby starts kicking. Taking his hand, Kelly lets him feel it. As she’s watching his smile, her eyes start to glow yellow as a vision flashes in her mind.
Before she can say anything, Dean and Sam knock at the door. Apparently, Sam put a tracking app on Cas’s phone while he’d been talking to Dean. And the elder brother is livid about him taking the Colt, along with disappearing again. The anger is momentarily replaced by surprise when they realize he has Kelly with him. Castiel explains that he wanted to keep them out of it, to keep them safe. Dean, with a good point, replies that they are never safe.
Finding out about the angel’s intention to take Kelly to Heaven, killing both her and the baby, they share their own plan of removing the baby’s grace to make him human. It would solve their problem and beats the guaranteed death that Castiel’s plan included. However, Kelly doesn’t agree. Saying no, she leaves the motel room. Of course, they follow, still trying to convince her that this is the better option and only succeeding in getting her to agree to talk in a safer place.
The Winchesters discuss the situation while the other two go to the Impala. But Kelly makes another decision while waiting and steals the car, speeding off. Cas, knowing how stealing Baby is the worst thing they could do, tells her to turn around. They are on her mission now, which means they are going to Heaven. The vision she was given was her son choosing Castiel, assuring her that if they followed the angel’s plan, he would make sure the child was born. She knows now that Castiel will be the one to take care of the boy when she is gone.
This statement shocks Castiel, resulting in his statement that he’s not someone she should put her faith in. He’s done so many things wrong. Kelly admits that before all of this, she was a mess too. And she doesn’t know why, but this is their destiny. He wishes he had her faith, to which she responds that he will.
A while later, they arrive at the sandbox, Kelly’s confidence that everything will be fine as long as Castiel is with her still holding strong. Joshua appears to them, telling her not to be scared seconds before Dagon appears and kills him immediately. The demon has been waiting there for hours since Kelvin tipped her off about where they would go. Realizing that he doesn’t have the Colt, the fight is easier for her. The boys show up in the now-working truck as she is about to kill Cas, too. Before Dean can even take a shot at her with the Colt, Dagon appears behind him, grabbing the gun, melting and destroying it.
With their only way of killing the demon gone and Castiel pretty beaten, the fight appears to be over. Yet our favorite angel isn’t done, pushing himself up and going to stand beside Kelly, telling her to run. She refuses, taking his hand instead. Her eyes begin to glow again, a power flowing from her into Castiel and causing his eyes to glow too. Dagon moves to attack, but he grabs her arm, causing her to burst into flames.
The hunters manage to get to their feet again, completely stunned and asking what just happened. Cas states it was him, but it was also the child. After healing Dean, he thanks them for coming to fight for them. He was lost but not anymore. He realizes the child must be born, and with his powers. The angel has faith again…faith in the baby.
Cas moves to leave with Kelly, however after what just happened they can’t let him go. Telling them to trust him, he touches their foreheads, putting them to sleep. As they get into the truck to leave, Kelly asks what her son told him. He didn’t tell the angel anything, he showed him the future. We are left to wonder if the world has a new savior on the way. Or is that child already like his father, the great deceiver?

Malik Yoba and Maggie Q in ‘Designated Survivor’ episode 18 (ABC/Ben Mark Holzberg)
“The White House is covering up the truth,” says a mysterious voice over the phone to reporter Abe Leonard (Rob Morrow). “The truth about what?” asks Abe. “The Capitol bombing,” replies the voice in season one episode 18 of ABC’s political thriller, Designated Survivor.
As the episode begins, Agents Hannah Wells (Maggie Q) and Jason Atwood (Malik Yoba) are still spying on a very much alive Lozano and his followers when they’re spotted and have to make a run for it. They’re shot at as they race through the woods, but manage to get away. Unfortunately, as Wells drives away she realizes Atwood has been shot in the arm. Wells reports in to John Forstell (Reed Diamond) and Mike Ritter (LaMonica Garrett) about what she and Atwood have uncovered, and she decides to check out the body they have tagged as Lozano in the morgue.
Meanwhile, Abe is still trying to uncover the truth about what really happened to the man who tried to kill the President. He calls in a favor and gets the license plate of a car used by someone in the White House. However, he can’t seem to get anyone to run it down for him because anyone could use it who works at the White House.
President Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland) enjoys signing the gun bill he got passed into law, along with the help of Senator Hookstraten (Virginia Madsen). Later as they are enjoying their victory, Kirkman tells Hookstraten he wants his daughter to witness the first-ever female Vice President being selected. Despite their rocky and at times distrustful start, Kirkman offers Hookstraten the VP position after she passes the vetting process. She agrees.
Things seem to be going almost too smoothly for the new administration so it’s not that surprising when a story breaks on the website Politico about Hookstraten. They report she took a paid trip to Turkey and then voted in an aid package. The article suggests she accepted favors to help pass the package. With this story breaking, Emily (Italia Ricci) wants Kirkman to back off announcing Hookstraten as his pick for Vice President.
Aaron (Adan Canto) visits Senator Bowman and accuses him or someone on his staff of leaking the story to Politico as revenge for her helping get the gun bill passed. Bowman warns Aaron to be careful what he says and reminds him that he’s no longer the White House Chief of Staff.
Ritter finds the President before meetings and photo ops and tells him about Agent Wells’ findings and that it looks like Lozano is still alive. He also suggests they increase security to be sure of safety and that he needs to keep this information close to his chest.
In the Oval Office, President Kirkman meets with Hookstraten to talk about the Turkey scandal and she explains that it was a while ago and all very innocent. He chooses to believe her and they both agree the leak must have come from Senator Bowman who not only wants revenge but also wants to force Hookstraten out because she’s his competition in the Republican party. Emily interrupts their talk to inform them the House Ethics Committee is opening an investigation into the situation.
Wells does her own investigation at the morgue and discovers it’s another man’s body tagged as Lozano, and someone made sure it had Lozano’s fingerprints. Wells talks to Jay Whitaker (Richard Waugh), the Homeland Security Adviser, and requests a copy of the surveillance video showing when authorities moved in and killed Lozano. After studying it, Wells discovers Lozano sent out a decoy to fake his own death. The man was named Desmond Legarth and he was a former Army veteran and a Browning Reed employee who had ties to the CEO of the company, Patrick Lloyd.
Abe approaches Atwood, who’s still recovering from getting shot, while at a diner and tries to get him to talk about the death of the terrorist and why he was fired as an agent. Atwood tells him he resigned and starts to leave. Abe brings up his son’s death and Atwood warns Abe never to mention his son again. He leaves the diner with Abe following him (seriously, this reporter can not take a hint) and Abe brings up his son again which leads to Atwood punching Abe, reminding him he was warned. As he drives off, Abe throws out a question, asking if Atwood is a good guy or a bad guy.
Later that day, Atwood meets up with Wells and she tells him to rest and heal. He doesn’t want her going it alone, but she believes she’s better off going solo for now. She assures him when she needs back-up, she’ll reach out to him.
Hookstraten figures out who it was on Senator Bowman’s staff that leaked the story. She calls Liam into her office and tells him it wasn’t hard to figure out it was him since she gave him the choice of resigning or being fired after she discovered some illegal activity he’d been involved with. Liam taunts her, saying she’ll have to resign. She reminds him she still has all the evidence of his activities 12 years earlier and she sent a copy to his boss, Senator Bowman. Hookstraten smiles at a shocked Liam and tells him he can go now.
Forstell and Wells question Patrick Lloyd at his place, which is a fairly large ranch. He handles their questions like a pro, telling them he doesn’t remember Legarth who they inform him is a person of interest in an ongoing investigation. Lloyd says he had many people working for him when Browning Reed was up and running. They bring up the missile silo and he says it was all contracted years ago and threatens they’ll be hearing from his attorney about unlawful trespassing. As they finish the interrogation, Wells notices Lloyd quotes a line from the Pax Americana book she stole from one of Lozano’s followers in North Dakota. She shows Forstell the passage when they’re back in the car.
Later that night, Forstell is concerned for Wells and their investigation and tells her to get some rest. He says proving Lloyd is part of or running the terrorist group will be harder than catching Vice President MacLeish because Lloyd is rich, powerful, and politically well connected. After he leaves, Wells calls Atwood and asks him to do something for her.
Meanwhile, Abe meets with his secret source who tells him the White House is covering up the truth about the attacks on the country. Abe’s “Deep Throat” gives him another clue and leaves, telling him not to try to follow him. As the mysterious man walks into a building, it’s revealed Abe’s inside contact is Jay Whitaker – the Homeland Security Adviser.
The last scene is Wells returning to her motel and just as she’s about to go inside, she realizes someone is already in the room. She quickly makes a run for her car but is taken from behind, drugged, and thrown into a van driven by Lozano.
Designated Survivor Episode 18 Review:
Full of cloak and dagger moments and some tough backstabbing politics, episode 18 titled “Lazarus” introduced a new player who might be the boss of the terrorist group who attacked the Capitol. It also threw a wrench into Kirkman’s plans for a new Vice President and revealed the identity of the White House traitor which, to be honest, was a bit of a letdown. Instead of a major player, the leak is a character who has only been in three episodes.
The episode focused mainly on the FBI’s hunt for answers to who’s behind the terrorist group looking to strike again. And for once that was actually the strongest part of the episode, with the power-playing and the dirty politics being mostly a snore.
With Wells now in the hands of Lozano, can Forstell, Atwood, and President Kirkman rescue her before she goes missing permanently?
Fall Out Boy’s just released the official music video for “Young and Menace,” the first single off their upcoming album. The trippy video was released along with confirmation the group’s seventh studio album, M A N I A, will arrive on September 15, 2017. Fall Out Boy will embark on a 20-city tour this fall in support of the new album.
“There’s a lyric in the song, ‘trying to send the world a message, I was young and a menace,’ that reminded me of growing up in the suburbs of Chicago. I didn’t look like anyone there or feel like anyone – I felt like an outsider in my own town. It wasn’t until I discovered punk rock and that community that I realized I did fit in somewhere in this world – with the other people who didn’t fit in,” said Fall Out Boy bassist & lyricist Pete Wentz of the reasoning behind the song’s title. “It’s hard to rationalize rage – it’s hard to quantify anxiety… this song does neither, it embraces the wave…”
Wentz also described the story told in the “Young and Menace” video. “The concept is the idea of a movie like Elf, where he realizes maybe he isn’t an elf after all, but ours has less comedic elements and more real world implication,” explained Wentz. “She realizes that maybe she is human after all – but maybe the line between us and monsters is blurrier than we think…”
The band’s fall tour will kick off on October 20, 2017 in Cleveland and is set to finish up on November 18th in Phoenix. Fall Out Boy will be contributing $1 from every ticket purchased to their Fall Out Boy Fund which supports Chicago-based charities. For info on purchasing tickets, visit www.falloutboy.com/tour.

Rachael Harris says she’s happy Dr. Linda is now in the know about Lucifer, Maze, Amenadiel and Charlotte, and that she’s considered an integral part of #TeamLucifer. Harris was part of the Lucifer squad who took part in the show’s panel at the 2017 WonderCon, joining Kevin Alejandro (‘Detective Dan Espinoza’), Lesley-Ann Brandt (‘Mazikeen’), executive producer Joe Henderson, and executive producer Ildy Modrovich to discuss the remaining episodes of season two – without giving away any spoilers. Harris also sat down for roundtable interviews to talk about what’s going on with Dr. Linda and what viewers can look forward to when season two returns from a three month break on May 1, 2017.
Dr. Linda accepted it pretty well when she learned Lucifer’s secret. Were you surprised at that reaction?
Rachael Harris: “Yeah, she did. She was horrified but also one thing that I love about Dr. Linda is she tries to keep an open mind and she was horrified but it was kind of like that was a big deal. But we were just talking about the reaction that I did – that was really talked out because I didn’t want to go mental. The great thing about Maze is Maze is the one who made it kind of make sense to her, right, by saying, ‘I’m just a normal person. I’m not, but try to talk to me as somebody like that with these limitations,’ because everybody has limitations and flaws and things that we’re working on. So, that was a definite choice.
In that moment I like to say that she just shut down like a computer and just needed to reboot when she got that information. She’s still coping with it in the next five episodes that we see before we go to season three or get to the four one-off episodes. She’s always dealing with it.”
Did Dr. Linda feel proud that she was Lucifer’s first human who knew the secret and that she was tolerant?
Rachael Harris: “I felt like it spoke volumes for what we’re dealing with right now in our world. It was very symbolic that she was able to say, ‘I’m going to accept this about you, even though you have so much shame about it and you want to hide it.’ There’s a great scene…I don’t know if we’ve seen it yet…it’s the one where I tell him, ‘Why don’t you trust her? I’m still here. I care for you.’ I think that’s all of our biggest fears is if you really see how mean or how sad or what low self-esteem I have you will run for the hills. And it’s such a great thing that says, ‘No, it’s okay.’ We all have these feelings and we can get through it together.”
She’s a good person and yet she’s slept with her patient, befriended Maze, and didn’t report Amenadiel. Will there be any repercussions for her?
Rachael Harris: “Yes. Well, you know God appears – Timothy Omundson – and Linda’s reaction to meeting God is pretty awesome. I think what we see is the repercussions of her committing to Maze and committing to Lucifer and to everyone. They’re her friends and she’s become very loyal to them. So, what happens when somebody or some entity tries to get information from her has catastrophic consequences to it. And, you get to see just how far Linda will go to take care of her friends. So, yeah, things come back to haunt her a little bit. Then also we will get to know more about Linda in one of the episodes, in one of the one-offs.”
A flashback?
Rachael Harris: “Sort of.”
We don’t know anything about Linda, really.
Rachael Harris: “I know. It’s kind of great though because I feel like that is a great place to go. We know that she’s got a big heart. I find the most empathetic people sometimes are the people who have gone through the most.”
Do you get any say in her story?
Rachael Harris: “I did. Yes. I was requesting because I often have a lot of funny lines, I will carry a lot of the funny aspects of the show given my background and everything, but I said to them, ‘You know, I would really enjoy doing some more dramatic aspects of the show.’ And that was where ‘Monster’ started happening, the episode ‘Monster’ where he does reveal himself. But I was like, ‘We can go further,’ because it was but it wasn’t. It was more of a shocker. So, they heard me when I said I would like to do something a little bit more dramatic. Things get a bit scary and honest in the next five episodes.”
Will Linda get in on the action at all?
Rachael Harris: “Yes. I have a stunt double! That’s not saying anything…but it says something. I have a stunt double that comes out in, I think, the finale. And then I have a stunt double again, but that’s in one of the one-offs which we’re not allowed to talk about and I just kind of did.”

FX’s critically acclaimed dramatic series Fargo continues season three with episode two airing on April 26, 2017. The episode titled ‘The Principle of Restricted Choice’ begins with Gloria (Carrie Coon) puzzling over the stash of sci-fi books she found in the secret box hidden under the floorboards in her stepfather’s house. She thumbs through each, looking for anything that might be hidden in the pages but coming up empty. Next, she examines an old newspaper article with the headline “Sci-fi Scribe Wins Golden Planet.”
Gloria’s interrupted by the only other officer in the town’s police department who shows up telling her it’s time to meet with the new police chief who’ll be coordinating their recently combined police department. Officer Donny Mashman (Mark Forward) picks up one of the paperbacks, asking if its author Thaddeus Mobley was involved in Ennis’ murder. Gloria says Thaddeus is Ennis, so there’s definitely a connection.
Gloria and Donny arrive at the Eden Valley Public Library which also serves as the police department. Strangely, Gloria can’t get the electric door to open for her (in episode one the door at her stepdad’s store also refused to open automatically) and she asks if Donny sees her, wondering if she’s somehow invisible. He replies, “Is that a trick question?”
And now we learn Emmit Stussy (Ewan McGregor) and Sy Feltz (Michael Stuhlbarg) are so concerned with V.M. Varga and the people he represents that they’ve turned to their lawyer, Irv, for help. They tell him all about trying to return the money they borrowed and he wonders why they made the shady deal in the first place, offering them the name of a criminal attorney on account of the fact they’ll probably wind up in jail when this is all over. Emmit doesn’t want to be lectured, he just wants his lawyer to find the company and make them take their $1 million loan back.
Emmit and Sy drive home and Emmit’s concerned he was too hard on his twin brother, Ray, at the anniversary party. Sy has no sympathy for Ray, telling Emmit everything he did was for Ray’s own good. Emmit thinks maybe he should give his brother the stamp, but Sy thinks Ray’s just a loser who won’t stop asking for more and more.
Back at the lawyer’s office, Irv is having a horrible time using his computer. He has no idea how to search the internet for info on V.M. Varga. Before his secretary can stop him, he clicks on a link that shuts down his computer. The secretary’s computer is also off, but they determine it’s just the computers and not a power outage. (As Irv’s turned off, it appeared as though a photo was taken of him and his secretary staring at the screen.)
So, what’s V.M. Varga up to? He’s accompanying a large truck into one of Emmit Stussy’s lots. The parking lot attendant doesn’t want to let them through, but V.M. (David Thewlis) assures the attendant – who is slow on the uptake – that the attendant’s employer gave him permission despite the fact it’s against the law to park an 18-wheeler on this particular property. V.M. has them drive to a spot against the attendant’s orders, and while that’s happening the attendant gives Sy a call and he confirms V.M. has permission.
Sy strolls into Emmit’s office and Emmit’s concerned about crime in his sleepy little town. He’s reading a newspaper article about 82-year-old Ennis Stussy’s death and he’s disappointed this is no longer the Minnesota he knows. Sy finally reveals what he came into Emmit’s office to share – the news about the semi-truck and V.M. Varga. Emmit’s concerned the truck is parked there against code, but Sy’s more concerned about what could possibly be in the truck. Sy thinks it might be harboring slave girls while Emmit thinks maybe it contains drugs. Either way, it’s bad news. Emmit suggests they drive over to the lot, but Sy prefers plausible deniability, which means they should stay far, far away. They decide to wait and see what Irv the lawyer discovers.
To say Chief Moe Dammick (Shea Whigham) is underwhelmed by Chief Gloria Burgle’s police station would be a gross understatement. The only holding cell is a closet where they store paper towels and the department’s computers which are still in their boxes. Moe’s dumbfounded to learn Gloria doesn’t like/use computers, preferring to type reports and send them by telex. She just calls someone if she needs a record researched, and Moe is over this attitude. He’s going to let her interview her potential witness at the gas station and take a few days off to settle Ennis’ affairs, but then they’ll sit down and discuss how the police department will be run moving forward.
Gloria arrives at the gas station where parolee Maurice LeFay (Scoot McNairy) stopped on his way to kill Ennis. The attendant recalls it was a weird night and when Maurice came in, he thought he was weird…and Russian. Anyway, he remembers “raising a ruckus” when Maurice tore a page from the phone book and Gloria puts on gloves and looks at the torn edges in the book. She takes the phone book as evidence in case there are fingerprints.
Ray’s busy at work with a newspaper spread out on his desk. The home invasion murder is front and center, but what’s really concerning Ray is a rat ate his computer cord and he needs to look up info on Maurice’s death. He asks his boss, Scotty (Ivan Sherry), if he can use his computer and Scotty begins talking about Nikki Swango’s butt. (Remember, Nikki and Ray aren’t supposed to be dating.) Ray notes that the police list Maurice’s death as accidental and then he announces that Maurice (who his boss doesn’t know is dead) has missed his 9am appointment. Why did he mention this? No idea, but Scotty tells him to issue a BOLO which apparently Ray could have/should have done without asking.
Ray passes by a man scrubbing Maurice’s blood off the sidewalk before entering Nikki’s apartment. He tells Nikki (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) Maurice’s death was ruled accidental, but Nikki’s distracted setting the table hoping to impress a new sponsor who’s coming over. When Ray says it’s too soon to be thinking about a sponsor for their bridge team, Nikki slaps him hard twice. She thinks his energy is blocked and he confesses it’s because he’s never killed anyone before. He admits he feels guilty and Nikki calls him her Honey Bear and says he has the soul of a poet. Ray’s concerned they’ll be caught, but Nikki’s sure it’ll all be fine. Nikki even thinks they shouldn’t worry about Ennis’ murder investigation since he was old and no one cares. (Boy, is she wrong!) Nikki says the only thing they’ll find if they do look into it is “unfathomable pinheadery,” which could be one of the best descriptions of a crime in history.
Nikki figures out it’s Ray’s dysfunctional relationship with Emmit that has his chi all messed up. She wants him to end the fight, believing they won’t land a sponsor with Ray in this state. So, Ray has two choices: make peace with his brother or they steal the stamp.
Ray shows up at Emmit’s place and Emmit’s concerned something horrible has happened since it’s 10:30pm. Since Stella’s asleep, he asks Ray to step out to the benches set up outside (in the snow) to talk. While they talk, Nikki sneaks into the house, looking for the stamp. Ray apologizes to his brother and Emmit admits he feels bad about their relationship, too. Ray reveals he wants to bury the hatchet and Emmit seems stunned. Ray tells his brother he’s proud of him, adding Emmit doesn’t owe him anything. The brothers make up, shake on it, and then Ray leaves while Emmit briefly remains outside with a genuinely happy smile on his face.
Meanwhile, inside the house there’s a framed drawing of a donkey hanging where the stamp used to be. Nikki uses a flashlight and begins searching through Emmit’s home office desk drawers. She finds a recent receipt for the rental of a safe deposit box and quickly comes to the conclusion that Emmit has secured the stamp where Ray can’t get to it.
Emmit heads upstairs and sees a light under the door of his office. Nikki’s gone but she left a message across the donkey reading, “Who’s the ass now?” in what looks like blood. (Earlier she’d mentioned she’s on her period.) Emmit looks into one of his desk drawers and sees a used tampon on top of his papers.
Attorney Irv walks to his car in the parking garage and finds Yuri from Ukraine leaning against it. Irv talks about the Cossacks and Yuri says he’s one, which confuses Irv. Before allowing Irv to answer when he asks if he was searching for V.M. Varga, Yuri and Meemo toss Irv over the side of the parking garage.
Nikki meets Ray at the pre-arranged spot down the street and tells him Emmit hid the stamp and left a burro in its place. Ray says it felt good talking to his brother, and he thinks they’ve actually made up which forces Nikki into confessing she left a message behind. Nikki’s impressed with Emmit’s game-playing skills and says, “He may have won this round, but two can play at that.” They hear a siren and speed off, with Ray still confused as to what Nikki did at Emmit’s house.
Emmit and Sy stare at Nikki’s message in the drawer and Emmit’s positive his brother tricked him so Nikki could break in and get the stamp. Emmit reveals the stamp isn’t hidden; the maid broke the frame and it’s being fixed. Emmit says the gloves are off and he’s now done with his brother. Sy agrees and he’s going to let Ray know he’s dead to Emmit.
While they’re talking, Emmit gets a call saying Irv jumped off the garage.
Gloria and her son visit the funeral home and the funeral home director was definitely not a friend of Ennis’, calling the deceased a horrible man. He wonders if Gloria has contacted Ennis’ family and she says she has no idea if he has other family or any friends who need to be contacted. The funeral home director’s never heard of the name Thaddeus Mobley, which was a longshot that Gloria tossed out, and the subject turns to picking out the coffin.
Ray’s in a local restaurant eating breakfast when Sy, driving a Hummer, pulls into the parking lot. Sy sits across from him at the table, and Ray says he’s going to call his brother to make things right. Sy squashes that idea, telling him to never speak to Emmit again. Ray can’t believe that’s what his brother really wants and Sy says, “I’m serious. This is non-negotiable after the stunt you pulled…feminine hygiene deployed as a weapon.” Ray looks confused, so apparently, Nikki didn’t give him all the details.
Sy pounds the table and Ray warns him to watch his tone, calling him an errand boy. Sy peels off a $20 and tells Ray that’s the last money he’ll get from Emmit. Ray flips him off as Sy leaves the restaurant. He flips him off again just as Sy gets into his car. Ray watches from his booth in the restaurant as Sy backs up into his Corvette, smashing the driver’s side. Sy gains a little speed and backs up again, crunching the driver’s side before driving away flipping the bird through the sunroof. He roars out of the parking lot and swipes another car as he exits to the street.
Back at his office, Emmit can’t raise the receptionist on the phone so he heads out to the reception area only to find V.M. Varga and his crew have claimed an empty office and are bringing in dozens of boxes. Emmit’s upset and can’t believe this is happening and when Sy arrives he joins Emmit and V.M. in Emmit’s office. V.M. tells them he likes Minnesota for its blandness after having traveled all around the globe.
Emmit and Sy reiterate their desire to pay back the loan, but Varga says they are partners and should lie back and enjoy themselves. There’s nothing that can be done at this point. Varga adds that he loves the parking lot industry because it runs on cash, doesn’t use technology, and that means you can’t verify the income. Sy points out if V.M. gooses the numbers, it will make someone pay attention. Varga responds by saying they’ll just buy more properties including some multipurpose ones…maybe even a new stadium. Emmit seems intrigued by the idea and Varga points out they’re trapped. But on the upside, on paper, they will be billionaires. V.M. warns them he’s heading out for a few days but is leaving Yuri and Meemo (the men who killed Irv) behind to watch over things. As if that didn’t freak them out, he adds his condolences for the death of their attorney, mentioning that it was avoidable.
