ABC’s Once Upon a Time season six episode 12 finds David and Hook on a quest for the truth. The episode titled ‘Murder Most Foul’ begins with a trip back in time to the night Rumpelstiltskin paid a visit to the home of Ruth (Tara Wilson) and Robert (David Cubitt), David’s parents. David’s family was dead broke and didn’t have any money to purchase medicine for their sick babies, so Rumple offered them medicine for one baby in exchange for giving up the other son. The flip of a coin decided James would go with Rumple to be the son of King George while David would stay with his parents. Robert and Ruth were not allowed to ever mention a word of the deal.

In Storybrooke, David (Josh Dallas) makes a toast to his family, saying he’s incredibly proud of Emma (Jennifer Morrison). Emma swears they’ll break the curse so that her mom and dad will be together at the same time, but David doesn’t sound so sure. Later that night, alone on his front porch David hears whispering and then sees his dad standing in front of him, blood on his hands. David’s father vanishes as David passes out. Hook (Colin O’Donoghue) finds him that way and although he’s just trying to help, David tells Hook he doesn’t take advice from a pirate. After Hook leaves, David finds his father’s coin on the ground.

Over at Regina’s, Robin (Sean Maguire) is having a bad morning because the “demon box” – an alarm clock – keeps screaming at him. Regina (Lana Parrilla) brings him some clothes but Robin looks lost.

Snow (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Regina have a chat over coffee, and Snow doesn’t mince words. She doesn’t think it was a good idea to bring Robin into this world, reminding Regina this Robin is definitely not her Robin. Regina still holds onto hope there’s part of her Robin in this Robin, but she admits she’s worried.

Hook pays a visit to Dr. Archie Hopper (Raphael Sbarge), confiding he’s worried David still thinks of him as just a pirate. He believes David wants better for Emma, but Hook pulls out an engagement ring admitting he’s anxious to give it to Emma. He won’t give it to her until he has David’s blessing, and Dr. Hopper is happy for him and glad he’s listening to his conscience. He advises Hook to just ask David what he thinks of him.

Speak of the devil, David is getting ready for bed and listens to the latest message of love from Snow. As it ends, David once again sees his dad. This time his dad says, “Family is everything.” David yells at him that he was a drunk who died when he was six and he owes him nothing. Teary-eyed, he asks his dad to tell him what he wants. His dad replies, “Truth.”

Another trip back in time reveals David’s dad is spending his money at the tavern. (David is six.) King George enters the tavern and everyone’s shocked. He informs the crowd his son, Prince James, has been abducted and he’s offering a reward.

Robert returns home and packs a bag. He’s going to search for James because he wants to fix his broken family. David comes downstairs and asks his dad if he’ll be “better” (as in not a drunk) when he returns. Robert says he will be and David offers him his lucky coin to keep him safe.

Back in Storybrooke, Hook is ready for a candid conversation with David but David demands his help on a project as soon as Hook enters his home. David shows him a map and admits he saw his father’s ghost. Hook asks if he’s sure and David is adamant he did see him, and he won’t abandon him until his father gets justice. David asks Hook for help, and Hook suggests Emma would be a better choice since she has magic and she’s the sheriff. However, David doesn’t want anyone to know other than Hook because he doesn’t think Snow or Emma would approve of what he needs to do. Because Hook is a pirate, David thinks he will be up for what he has planned.

Regina shows Robin the storybook and he wonders why there aren’t tales of her and the other Robin in it. As they’re looking through the pages, Zelena (Rebecca Mader) rings the bell and Regina pushes her outside, trying to explain this isn’t her Robin. Regina admits she hasn’t told this Robin he has a daughter, and Zelena demands that she warn him never to come near their daughter. After sending Zelena away, Regina discovers Robin is missing and that the book was left open to a drawing of the Sheriff of Nottingham holding him prisoner.

Robin, armed with his bow and arrow, sees Keith/Sheriff of Nottingham (Wil Traval) on the street and takes aim. He pins Keith’s sleeve to a telephone pole and even after Keith tells him he’s not called the Sheriff of Nottingham in Storybrooke, Robin punches him in the face. He puts a knife to his throat, just as Regina runs up. He won’t let Keith up so Regina uses her magic to send the Sheriff of Nottingham away, telling Robin he would regret it someday if she let him kill his old enemy. She asks him to promise to stop running away and trying to kill people and he agrees.

David and Hook visit Emma’s house when she’s away because David wants to steal items from Emma in order to do a spell. Hook doesn’t agree with this plan, and David is shocked since Hook’s spent his life being a thieving pirate. Hook says he doesn’t want to be that guy anymore, but David’s not listening. He tells Hook to keep an eye out as he checks out Emma’s shed.

Another jaunt to the past and Robert visits Rumple’s telling him he owes him so he has to help. Robert says he’d do anything to see his son and Rumple agrees to do it in exchange for a hair from his head. Rumple looks into a crystal ball and sees that James wasn’t abducted but instead ran away to a land built from temptation.

Back in Storybrooke, David’s going through Emma’s shed when Hook warns him Emma’s arrived home. Hook attempts to distract her with a kiss, but Emma knows he’s hiding something. Hook confesses he visited Archie to talk about how he felt when he believed she was going to die. He said Archie told him to share his feelings, so that’s what he’s doing. Hook notices David is finished in the shed and so he kisses Emma and takes off. (She’s only there to grab life jackets for a boat trip with Henry.)

Regina brings Robin to her vault, asking him if he was really going to kill the Sheriff of Nottingham. He asks what’s in the bottles on the wall and she admits they are the hearts of her enemies. But, she tells him she’s changed and then drops the bombshell that Robin had a child – an infant daughter – with her sister. He asks if she brought him there just to drop him in the middle of this mess, and she replies that she did it to give him a fresh start. Tears in her eyes, she says maybe his being there could be a good thing. They kiss and it’s obvious it doesn’t affect her the way kissing her Robin did.

David and Hook try and follow the instructions to do a locator spell, but have no real idea what they’re doing. Hook tries to make a joke about transforming into raccoons, but David’s not in a joking mood. They think they’ve got the spell worked out and they place the coin on the map. It lands on Pleasure Island, a place Hook describes as terrible and dark.

The next scene is, of course, of Pleasure Island. Children appear to be having fun at a carnival as Robert walks through the crowd searching for James. He even turns down alcohol because he’s vowed to stay sober and he’s focused on finding his son. Pinocchio arrives and when Robert asks if he’s seen his son, Prince James, Pinocchio’s nose grows when he says no. Robert forces Pinocchio to give up the location, and James is frightened when Robert tells him he’s bringing him home. Robert explains he’ll take him to his home, not back to King George, and he can grow up with a brother. He then tells him he’s his father.

Robert thanks Pinocchio and Pinocchio warns him to run as men chase them through the carnival.

In Storybrooke, David and Hook visit August Booth/Pinocchio (Eion Bailey) and he recognizes the coin. He remembers telling Robert to run but didn’t connect David to Robert or James until this very minute. David is happy to learn his dad was trying to fix their family, and August assures him his dad was sober when he met him. August also reveals he took pages from the book that mentioned Pleasure Island and he’ll look through them for mentions of David’s father.

After leaving August, David is sure he knows who killed his dad and he wants to go after him. He’s shocked Hook doesn’t want him to get revenge and that Hook has changed that dramatically. Hook admits he will stop anyone from trying to get revenge, so David handcuffs him to a post and takes off in the truck by himself.

And now we finally get to see what really happened to David’s father. Robert and James run into King George and although the king offers a reward, Robert asks only for James to be allowed to live with him. King George realizes this is the man who sold James, and Robert confesses he made a mistake but he’s not going to give James up now. James begs Robert not to let King George take him, and Robert swears he’s going to protect his son. The King’s men haul Robert away, with the king promising his guards if they kill Robert and make it look like an accident, they can collect the reward for finding James.

David yanks Albert Spencer/King George (Alan Dale) out of his cell and screams at him for killing his father. Albert admits he offered Robert money but he wouldn’t take it. David throws him a knife and tells him to fight for his life. They go at it and David gets the better of him, holding a knife to Albert’s throat ready to slice. Just then Hook arrives, yanks David away, and throws Albert back in a cell. David’s furious and tells Hook he’ll never forgive him, now putting a knife to Hook’s throat. Hook doesn’t fight back and instead holds his hands out in surrender mode. Hook tells David that at least now he knows his father was honorable in the end.

David, angry and emotional, says his dad fought for them and did everything possible to get the family back together but it wasn’t enough. He asks Hook what if Gideon comes back and kills Emma, what if he can never be with Snow, and what if being Prince Charming isn’t enough and he loses everything that matters to him? Hook steps aside and tells David he can kill Albert if he wants to, but he needs to think about his father. His father wanted to be able to look him in the eye; he needs to be able to look back. David drops to his knees, overcome with emotion. Hook embraces the man he’s hoping will be his future father-in-law.

Robert’s death is at hand as the guards, dressed in civilian clothes, tie him to a cart and douse him in alcohol. He’s going to be stabbed before they crash the cart.

In Storybrooke, David is crying as he tosses the coin into the river. He apologizes to Hook, calling him the noble one. He adds that he’s sorry he made him risk what he has with Emma, and Hook asks if that means he thinks he’s good enough for Emma. David tells Hook he believes he’s done the hardest thing anyone can do – he’s changed – and he’s not sure he can ever pay Hook back. Hook replies, “As luck would have it, I might have an idea.” He asks David if he can have his blessing to ask for Emma’s hand in marriage. David is quiet for a minute, staring at Hook, and then he smiles and says, “Of course. Of course, you have my blessing. I mean, it’s up to Emma of course, but yes, you have my blessing!” He adds that he didn’t realize Hook was so old-fashioned. He also says he won’t tell Snow until it’s official.

Speaking of Snow, Regina tells her she told Robin about the baby. She also reveals they kissed and that she felt nothing. “It was like kissing a photography,” says Regina. Snow’s sorry she was right and Regina tells her it’s not her fault. Regina just wanted to believe and still wants to know how he made it through the portal. She wonders who he is and what he wants.

As Snow and Regina are having a talk, Robin is busy in Regina’s vault.

Hook’s almost at Emma’s when August rides up with the pages about Pleasure Island. Hook says he’ll pass them on to David, but he looks at them first while standing outside Emma’s.

In a flashback, we see one of the guards tell Robert it’s time to die just as Hook and his men arrive. They kill the guards and Robert thinks he’s about to be saved and swears he’ll never say a word if he lets him go home to his family. Hook says he might believe that, but adds, “Dead men tell no tales,” and then stabs him with his sword through the stomach. Hook steals the king’s gold and doesn’t care about any of the men he just killed.

Emma meets Hook outside and announces she’s making her specialty: microwave popcorn with Milk Duds. Hook says he’ll be right in and after she heads inside, he pulls out the engagement ring, looks at it, and closes the ring box.

‘Grimm’ Season 6 Episode 10 Recap: Blood Magic

Grimm Season 6 Episode 10

NBC’s Grimm season six episode 10 finds Eve obsessed with figuring out how to travel through a mirror and Nick learning about a special Wesen who performs a vital service for elderly Wesens. Titled ‘Blood Magic’ and airing on March 10, 2017, episode 10 begins with Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) covering up mirrors while speculating how long Eve will have to go without looking in one. Monroe wonders what happens if she accidentally catches her reflection elsewhere, but Rosalee doesn’t want to consider that possibility. Right now it’s all about covering the mirrors.

Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) pays a visit to Adalind (Claire Coffee), asking for help on how to pass through a mirror. Adalind’s against the idea but Eve thinks if she isn’t proactive, there could be horrible consequences. Eve asks if Adalind’s powerful mom might have something in one of her books about going through portals. She believes the thing in the mirror connects to her because she can see the symbols, and Adalind’s concerned about that because Diana can also see the symbols. Decision made, Adalind provides Eve with the books for her research.

Meanwhile, two friends finish up their delicious meal at a restaurant and one volunteers to go get their car. Shortly thereafter, she’s viciously attacked and killed.

Nick (David Giuntoli) arrives home, and Adalind lets him know Eve stopped by asking for help to go through the mirror. She confesses she gave her mother’s spell books to Eve, saying she believes Eve is looking for redemption. Adalind also reveals she’s not ruling out the possibility Eve can actually cross through the mirror. Nick promises to talk to Eve, but first, he has to meet up with Hank at a murder scene.

Nick and Hank (Russell Hornsby) join Wu (Reggie Lee) at the crime scene, and Wu says the victim’s name is Maddie Sims. They believe it’s a Wesen attack and Maddie’s friend, Allie Stephens, says she has no idea what happened. Allie thinks Maddie got along with everyone and she knows she was happy when she last saw her. Allie seems sincere, so now Hank, Wu, and Nick will have to check to see if there’s any security camera footage that could help identify the killer.

The activity shifts over to a nursing home where an elderly woman remembers running through the woods in her younger days. The woman – Mrs. Cutler – tells Mason Wilcox (Regi Davis), the orderly who’s assisting her into bed, “they” could never run faster than “us.” She adds that she remembers the sweet taste of blood, which Mason laughs off. When he turns away, Mrs. Cutler woges into a wolf and attacks. Mason manages to fight her off, and she returns to normal, but a nurse rushes in and misinterprets what she sees, mistakenly thinking Mason attacked Mrs. Cutler. Mason freaks out and bolts from the room.

Back at the station, they determine Maddie didn’t have a criminal record. They also discover there was a similar crime nearby, but that it was turned over to animal control as an animal mauling. Wu shows off the bank camera surveillance footage he’s secured, and there’s nothing helpful on it. Nick wants to check for footage from the other case, just in case something was captured on film. Because the victim wasn’t eaten and nothing was stolen, Nick and Hank believe the Wesen was killing for sport which makes it likely he/she will kill again.

Eve’s doing her research when the floor creaks over her head. Luckily, it’s just Nick who asks if she’s found another way into the mirror world. He expresses concern that she shouldn’t be working on this alone. Eve hasn’t found anything yet, but she’s convinced it will get to them if they don’t get to it first. She assures Nick she won’t go through the mirror on her own. (Why does it feel like that’s an empty promise?)

Nick leaves and Eve opens the second book to find letters scrambled all over the pages. She picks up the book, shakes it, and this time an index page appears on hexes, curses, charms, and incantations.

So now it’s off to another crime scene; this time it’s Mrs. Cutler who’s the victim. Wu fills Hank and Nick in on what went down the night before and why he doesn’t think she just died in her sleep. Because of the bruising on her neck, Mason is considered a suspect. The nurse who found Mason “attacking” Mrs. Cutler describes what she saw. She confirms there’s never been a problem with Mason before, and she says Mason was yelling that Mrs. Cutler is a monster. The injuries Mrs. Cutler suffered during her tussle with Mason were superficial, and the nurse believes Mason simply scared the 91-year-old to death.

Hank and Nick interview Dr. Landeaux (Rob Brownstein), the doctor who examined Mrs. Cutler after she passed away. He explains Mrs. Cutler had recently been restless and was suffering from severe dementia. She was never violent previously, but it’s entirely possible she was in fact the one who instigated the fight with Mason. Dr. Landeaux doesn’t think the orderly had anything to do with Mrs. Cutler’s death. In his opinion, she died from natural causes.

Renard (Sasha Roiz) calls Adalind, demanding to know about Diana’s drawings. Adalind says she doesn’t know what the symbols mean, and Renard asks to see the tunnel. She tells him he needs to ask Nick.

When Nick and Hank show up at Mason’s apartment, he takes off running. They catch up to him fairly quickly, and he keeps screaming that he didn’t kill Mrs. Cutler. Hauled in for questioning, Mason continues to plead his innocence. Mason doesn’t have a police record or a history of violence, but he’s leery about explaining what happened because he doesn’t think Nick or Hank will believe him. He finally gives in, recalling the “blood in her mouth” story and that she said she used to run in the woods. Mason says he was attacked by a monster, adding that he never uses drugs or steroids. He describes Mrs. Cutler with yellow eyes, hair everywhere, and teeth like a wild dog. The monster turned back into Mrs. Cutler when he pushed it against a wall, which is when the nurse arrived and saw the end of the fight. He calls Mrs. Cutler his friend and then he’s shocked when Hank says he believes him.

Hank and Nick discuss the situation while walking through the station, positive Mrs. Cutler woged and Mason freaked out. They know he acted in self-defense, and just then Nick receives a call from the medical examiner who has something to show them.

Catching up once again with Eve, she’s still hard at work researching how to pass into the other world. She has a vision of biting the man who had her in a death grip and of picking up the hand mirror. Eve has an idea that blood magic is involved in some way and calls Adalind to pick her brain. Eve wants to know if she can use blood magic to get to the other side, and Adalind asks what would happen if she passed through but then can’t come back. Eve pledges to keep looking for answers.

The M.E. has determined the physical confrontation with Mason did not cause Mrs. Cutler’s death. But, she did find a high amount of bug saliva in Mrs. Cutler’s system. She explains the saliva came from an Assassin Bug which creates an enzyme to kill things. Hank and Nick ask if she could have been injected with it and if that would have killed her. The M.E. says it’s possible.

Back at the station, Wu studies the footage from a camera located near the other mauling victim’s body.

Hank and Nick make a trip to the spice shop to find out if Monroe or Rosalee know of a Wesen who uses bug saliva to kill its victims. They seem hesitant to respond, but finally, say it sounds like they could be dealing with a “Godfather of Death.” Monroe advises Nick and Hank to let it go, and Rosalee asks if the victim was Wesen and suffering from dementia. Rosalee and Monroe explain Wesen who suffer from dementia are a problem because they can experience uncontrolled woges, which is bad for the Wesen community. The Godfather of Death is used to painlessly and peacefully end the life of Wesen with dementia. The Godfather is usually contacted by a family member or someone who cares for them, and it’s just how the community works. Rosalee and Monroe refuse to give up the name of the Godfather unless Hank and Nick swear they won’t arrest him. They swear, and Rosalee calls the Godfather. Just then Wu calls with an update on the mauling case they need to see.

Wu shows Nick and Hank footage of an elderly man with a cane caught on video one block from both crime scenes. Renard interrupts and calls Nick into his office, demanding to see the tunnel. Renard knows whatever Diana’s involved in is dangerous, but Nick won’t share what he knows until Renard tells him how he learned it’s something dangerous.

Rosalee and Monroe are worried about the Godfather meeting a Grimm, sure the meeting won’t go down well. When the Godfather calls, Rosalee lies and says her husband has dementia and needs him now.

Hank, Wu, and Nick watch the video of the old man with the cane multiple times, but they can’t see his face. Monroe calls Nick, explaining the Godfather is on his way which means Nick and Hank have to rush to the spice shop.

The Godfather arrives and Hank and Nick immediately recognize him; it’s Dr. Landeaux from the nursing home. The doctor’s confused and then immediately springs into attack mode when Nick reveals he’s a Grimm. Rosalee and Monroe calm the situation down, explaining Nick’s a friend who needs to talk to him. Dr. Landeaux confirms he euthanized Mrs. Cutler and that the orderly had nothing to do with it. He’s sorry he waited too long to do it, but he can’t help Mason out of the jam. Nick and Hank tell him he has to convince the nurse of Mason’s innocence and he’ll have to testify, if necessary, to keep Mason from going to jail for a murder he didn’t commit.

As they’re talking, Dr. Landeaux gets a call that a Wesen suffering from dementia is threatening his wife. Hank and Nick want to help, and Rosalee recognizes the address as belonging to one of their long-time customers, so they also tag along. When they arrive at the house, the elderly Wesen has left and his wife, Elizabeth Stanton, is okay but upset because her husband, Norm, has never attacked her before. She says her husband doesn’t know what he’s doing, so Nick, Hank, and Monroe head out to track him down via his cell phone’s location.

Out on the street, Norm Stanton approaches a young woman at a bus stop believing she’s his wife. As he attempts to touch her hair, she flees. (Smart woman!) Nick, Hank, and Monroe arrive, but Norm gets angry and woges when they say they’re there to help him make his way home to his wife. Fortunately, they’re able to place him in the car without anyone being injured.

Norm is returned to his home and his wife asks him to have a seat in his favorite chair. She and Dr. Landeaux comfort him as Wu arrives with the video from the two murder scenes. The cane in the video matches Norm’s cane, so they know he committed the murders without realizing what he was doing. They can’t take him into custody because he could woge, so Nick tells Dr. Landeaux to do what he has to do and assures him they won’t interfere. Rosalee and Monroe remain behind to comfort Elizabeth Stanton after she says goodbye to her beloved husband.

Eve arrives at the spice shop, excited that she’s found out something important. Rosalee and Monroe are still out, so Eve – clutching a knife – rips the cover away from the full-length mirror and slices her palm. She drags her blood across the glass and woges, but nothing happens. She turns away to read the book to find out what she did wrong while behind her the mirror transforms. She tentatively places her hand through it and then steps completely into the mirror and disappears.

Preacher season two debuts this summer with a genre-bending thrill ride that follows Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy as they embark on a road trip to find God, dealing with issues both worldly and other-worldly along the way.

‘Supernatural’ Season 12 Episode 15 Recap: Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell

As the twelfth season of Supernatural is now over half over, things are starting to heat up. The March 9, 2017 episode also brings a monster into the show that we haven’t seen for a while: Hell Hounds. And as we know, they are nothing any of us want to mess with.

At the very beginning of episode 15, we are introduced to a young couple camping in the woods, Gwen and Marcus. We quickly find out they’re in a long-distance relationship because of a college Gwen (Angelique Rivera) had gotten into and are reunited temporarily for this trip. Marcus leaves camp to go find some more firewood, psyching himself up during the walk for his intended marriage proposal. Only as he’s gathering the wood, Marcus is attacked by a Hell Hound and runs back toward camp.

Gwen is organizing their items, finding the ring in his stuff and seeming a bit surprised at the discovery. When Marcus bursts through the trees screaming for her to run, she’s even more shocked, especially when he’s knocked down and clawed by an invisible animal. When the hound is done with him, it goes after Gwen. She fights back, grabbing a hatchet, stabbing the unseen attacker and running away while it’s recovering from the injury.

Heading over to Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sam (Jared Padalecki), the brothers are just arriving back to the bunker after a hunting spree, with Dean covered in various bits of monster goo. As Sam gives him some brotherly crap about his messy state, the younger Winchester gets a text from someone listed in his phone as “Frodo.” It’s another case. Sam explains this new frequency in finding cases as an algorithm he’s created on his computer to look for the right signs and notify him of a match. Dean accepts this explanation and is eager to head out again, yet Sam insists he at least take a shower before they leave.

Castiel (Misha Collins) has also been busy with his own case, having heard about two angels being killed. Visiting the restaurant where one of them, or at least the angel’s vessel, worked, he’s taken into the owner’s office to discuss the incident. However, when the man is convinced that aliens killed his employee and the other man, it doesn’t seem like he’s going to get very much help. Then the man says he has proof and pulls out a videotape, showing Kelly being cornered by the two angels followed by the demon with glowing yellow eyes joining the group right before the tape cuts out. Castiel grabs the video camera and tape, then leaves the man with his ramblings about extraterrestrials.

Next, the Winchester men arrive at the campsite where Marcus was found dead. After being filled in on what the police know, they find out that Gwen survived and was very shaken, talking about being attacked by an invisible wolf – and that it will come for her again. The guys instantly know it’s a Hell Hound and go to talk to the girl. They suspect that Marcus made a deal and that she should be safe now that he’s dead. That’s not what they tell her though, claiming it was a bear that killed her boyfriend and the animal is dead now.

Their explanation does not sit well with Gwen who states she knows what she saw and tells them to get out of her house. As they leave, we see through the camera that the hound is in her house. Sam and Dean are barely out of the house before it attacks, chasing Gwen through her house and knocking her to the floor. It doesn’t immediately kill her, clawing at the rug by her head, almost toying with her first. This gives time for the hunters to burst in, having heard the screams, and shoot the dog, causing it to jump out the window.

Well, now they finally tell her the truth about what attacked her, who they are, and even how to kill a Hell Hound. As crazy as it sounds, Gwen is satisfied to have a real answer that makes more sense after what she had seen. They ask her some questions about any deals in the past, only to find out that neither Gwen nor Marcus had ever made a deal with a demon. This stumps Dean and Sam. Good thing they know who to call.

This leads us to check in on Crowley (Mark Sheppard), currently in a verbal battle of wills with Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino). They both have big plans they aren’t completely sharing with each other, and as we know well, Lucifer can definitely match Crowley’s level of sass. The King of Hell claims that whatever the Devil has up his sleeve, he is 10 steps ahead. Anything Lucifer does to him, he will do back. Also, for making Crowley his dog, Lucifer will be his slave. None of this seems to faze the fallen angel as Crowley is pulled away by one of his underlings.

Evidently, Crowley has been letting his responsibilities slip while he’s been so distracted by his secret captive. Now he’s being bombarded by his assistants, thoroughly bored with the tedious work, when his phone rings. He’s relieved until he sees the call is from “Not Moose” and quickly lets Dean know he’s still angry about them sending his son back in time to be killed. Dean doesn’t have the time or patience for it though, instead explaining the situation of a Hell Hound attacking people who never made a deal.

Crowley pauses, asking the demons about his hounds, learning that one of them, Ramsey, got out and is now running loose. Teleporting directly to Gwen’s apartment, Crowley explains to the brothers and Gwen that Ramsey is no ordinary Hell Hound. She, that’s right, she is the first and most vicious of the hounds. No one can control her. She is only loyal to Lucifer. Still, he doesn’t reveal his secret, insisting that Gwen must know why Ramsey is still after her. The young woman explains that she did hit the dog with an axe. So, the dog is holding a grudge and this one is personal.

Let’s pause briefly now to check in on Castiel’s progress. As he leaves the restaurant where he received…okay, took…the videotape an angel is waiting for him. At first, Castiel is ready to protect himself since the angels haven’t been too happy with him as of late. Yet this one wants to talk because now they have a common problem, Kelly and Lucifer’s spawn. This has all the angels working together in an all-hands-on-deck manner.

They want Cas to help them since he has more field experience than any other of their kind. Our favorite angel comments that he’s sure Heaven still won’t accept him. He’s right, but this new guy dangles the carrot that if he helps them with this issue, his sins could be forgiven. Joshua, currently running Heaven from the sounds of it, has stated this fact. Also hinting that he could have his original family back, the angel asks Castiel to hear Joshua out…for the greater good.

In the meantime, Lucifer has some visitors of his own, Crowley’s lackeys. It turns out they had released Ramsey to create a distraction so they could find out what Crowley has been so careful about hiding, hoping it was Lucifer. They even pickpocket the key to let the devil loose, although one has some stipulations before doing so. Lucifer nods at everything that is asked, willing to agree to anything to get free. Not too surprisingly, once they do free him, he kills them both.

Back to the Hell Hound problem, the group has headed back to the woods to look for Ramsey. Dean and Crowley will be doing the actual tracking while Sam protects Gwen, both brothers wearing glasses that will allow them to see the hound. During the search, the hunter and demon childishly bicker. When Dean makes a comment that Crowley has gone soft, that years before he wouldn’t have been helping them and maybe they’ve rubbed off on him, Crowley turns it around. After all, who would have thought the hunters would be working with the King of Hell, and maybe it’s him who has rubbed off on them. Dean doesn’t have to think about that yet as he finds a dead body in what had to be Ramsey’s den. But where is the dog?

Sam and Gwen are headed to somewhere safe when Gwen suddenly apologizes, saying this is all her fault and asking Sam to pull over as the image of Marcus being murdered flashes in her head yet again. After throwing up, she confesses her feelings to Sam. Camping was her idea, she’s asked him to go even though she had known their relationship was over. Gwen didn’t love him like he loved her and she was going to break up with him. Mentally beating herself up, she wants to know why she couldn’t just tell Marcus the truth instead of lying to make things easier. Sam doesn’t know what to say, yet really she just needed to get that off her chest and states they should go.

Turning on the headlights to leave, Sam sees Ramsey directly in front of the car. The hound jumps on the car, walking all over it and basically trashing the Impala. Poor Baby has been rebuilt way too many times already! Anyway, Sam gets out of the car with his knife to end this but is overpowered and pinned down by the hound. Gwen hits the dog with a suitcase to save Sam, giving him an opportunity to recover and stab the hound with his demon-killing knife, which also works on the Hell Hounds.

The pairs meet back up and, as expected, Dean is upset about his car. Gwen wants to be clear that the danger is truly over, which Crowley confirms to be true. The woman hugs him and he lets her, despite it clearly making him super uncomfortable. Sam even tells him thank you. But the hug was his limit on mushiness so the demon disappears without a word.

He returns to his lair to find Lucifer no longer in his chains but sitting on the throne instead. Now with the apparent upper hand, the devil backhands his captor, shining in his dark angel form. Yet Crowley shuts him down with a snap of his fingers. Rising to his feet, Crowley restates that he is 10 steps ahead of his old boss, injuring Lucifer until he’s writhing on the ground without laying a finger on him.

With glee, he explains that the chains were just an accessory, the vessel is actually Lucifer’s prison. The body had been carefully prepared to have Lucifer right where he wants him, under his control. As long as he’s in that body, Crowley owns him. He continues, stating he’s going to happily rip Lucifer’s spawn apart while he watches…and then he’ll still be just getting started with him.

The episode comes to an end with Dean and Sam back at the bunker. Castiel calls with the news that he believes Kelly is with the Princess of Hell, Dagon. He doesn’t know where they are now though and the boys say they’ll spread the word. Yet as Castiel hangs up, we see him headed up to Heaven with the other angel to speak with Joshua.

Dean thinks their friend sounds weird but there isn’t much he can do about it at the moment. Sam, however, gets a call from “Frodo.” This results in him admitting he has gotten all their recent cases from the British Men of Letters. The look on Dean’s face shows clearly that he’s angry at having been lied to again. Sam apologizes, trying to explain that they may not like the group but it has allowed them to help people. Instead of blowing up, Dean accepts it. He doesn’t like it, doesn’t trust them, but Sam is right. They work with people they don’t trust all the time, like Crowley. If Sam wants to give working with them a shot, fine. But Dean makes him agree that they bail as soon as anything seems off. The phone rings again, Dean tells him to pick it up, and we are left with Sam greeting Mick. And now, they make us wait for a few weeks to find out what craziness we’ll get next.

And even as the family’s loyalties are called into question, Freya (Voelkel) will embark on her own deadly mission, vowing to destroy anyone who would threaten her siblings – regardless of what she will have to do – or whom she will have to sacrifice.

Ultimately, the Mikaelsons will realize that they now face an enemy even more powerful than themselves, one with intimate knowledge of their family’s greatest weakness. Upon learning the truth – that their evil adversary cannot be killed – the Mikaelson siblings will have no choice but to stand together – even if this is to be their final battle.
