Grateful Dead Doc ‘Long Strange Trip’ Acquired by Amazon

Amazon has picked up the Grateful Dead documentary, Long Strange Trip, and is planning a May 26, 2017 premiere on Amazon Prime Video. The four hour documentary was directed by Amir Bar-Lev (The Tillman Story) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Rick Yorn, Andrew Heller, Sanford Heller, Mickey Hart, Bill Kreutzmann, Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, Thomas J. Mangan IV, and Alicia Sams. The Grateful Dead documentary was financed by producers Eric Eisner, Nick Koskoff, and Alex Blavatnik.

Long Strange Trip is set to have its world premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and will air in six parts on Amazon Prime Video.

“I first reached out to the Grateful Dead about this film back in 2003,” stated director Bar-Lev. “Since then, everyone who has come aboard has treated this project with a renegade spirit of cooperation and ingenuity worthy of the subject matter. I recognized immediately that Amazon was the perfect distributor when I met their team, and I can’t wait to see how many brains they can infect with the Dead’s contagious brand of anti-establishment fun.”

“I’ve always admired the spirit and creativity of the Grateful Dead,” said Scorsese. “They are revolutionary artists who forever changed the world of touring and recording live music. They were a cultural force—a lifestyle, that continue to influence new generations of fans. This film will entertain and educate audiences about one of the most innovative and groundbreaking American bands of the 20th century.”

“The story of the Grateful Dead is that of music and culture of the 20th Century,” said Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama, Amazon Studios. “Told with vast scope and an unprecedented cast of real life characters, Amir has taken advantage of this larger than life canvas to make an era-defining musical portrait that we can’t wait to bring to audiences everywhere.”

Commenting on the documentary, the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir said, “Over several decades a group of guys hung together making music in a group that was way tighter and lasted much longer than most marriages. Here’s the movie…”

Details on Long Strange Trip: The 30-year odyssey of the Grateful Dead was the most unlikely success story in rock and roll history. Famously averse to publicity, seemingly incapable of recording radio-friendly hits, they flouted music-industry convention by giving their live music away to a global network of tape traders, becoming the highest-grossing concert act in America on word of mouth alone.

Executive produced by Scorsese (Silence), Long Strange Trip is the first full-length documentary to explore the fiercely independent vision, insistence on continuous innovation, and uncompromising commitment to their audience that propelled the original jam band from a Bay Area pizza parlor to the ranks of the most enduringly influential musicians of their generation. By assembling candid interviews with the band, road crew, family members, and notable Deadheads, director Bar-Lev unearths the untold history of the Dead and the freewheeling psychedelic subculture that sprouted up around it, while providing poignant insight into the psyche of late lead guitarist Jerry Garcia, who disdained leadership of the increasingly sprawling collective organization that kept the show on the road.

With a soundtrack that captures some of the band’s most dynamic live performances as well as unguarded moments offstage and never before seen footage and photos, Long Strange Trip is an epic exploration into a uniquely American experiment in radically eclectic music-making that continues to earn the passionate loyalty of generations of fans worldwide.

The romantic thriller stars Josh Henderson (Dallas), Christine Evangelista (Chicago Fire), Lexa Doig (Continuum), and Michael Vartan (Alias).

While Megan has a mysterious past she is trying to keep hidden, Kyle has secrets of his own.

In addition to being Kyle’s best friend and closest confidante, Terence also helps manage his career, as his wife, DeAnn (Doig), is Kyle’s producing partner. Terence, whose motives are often unclear, created this contract to “protect” Kyle.

She dives head first into the glamorous celebrity lifestyle with Terence growing rapidly concerned about her influence over Kyle. ‘Santa Clarita Diet’ Unveils a New Trailer, Poster, and Series Photos

Sink your teeth into the new trailer for Netflix’s Santa Clarita Diet starring Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant. Barrymore and Olyphant play Sheila and Joel Hammond, a married couple whose lives are turned upside down after Sheila dies and then returns as a flesh-craving real estate agent. The family is in on Sheila’s big secret and the trailer shows Sheila’s hubby and two kids will be assisting her in her quest for fresh meat.

Santa Clarita Diet is set to premiere on February 3, 2017, with all 10 episodes of the half hour comedy available at 12:01am PT. Victor Fresco (Better Off Ted) created the series and executive produces along with Barrymore, Olyphant, Tracy Katsky, Aaron Kaplan, Chris Miller, and Ember Truesdell.

In addition to Barrymore and Olyphant, Santa Clarita Diet stars Liv Hewson as their rebellious daughter, Abby, and Skyler Gisondo as Eric, their son who happens to be an undead expert that doesn’t like the negative connotations attached to the word zombie. Ricardo Chavira, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, and Richard T. Jones co-star, and Nathan Fillion and Andy Richter will appear as season one guest stars.

“The family that slays together, stays together”

“This woman who is undead is really going through a rebirth,” explains Barrymore. “She just wakes up and sees things around her that she had blinders on to before. … I just was excited about what (this role) could be and how it could really be a physical transformation, an emotional transformation and a behavioral transformation.”

“You take out the fact that my wife and I are killing and eating people, (and) it feels like a family show,” said Olyphant. “It feels like a show about a marriage, and a family, a real teenager with real teenage problems.”

Series creator Victor Fresco revealed the series stems from the question of what happens in an adult relationship when one partner changes. “These are two people who have loved each other for 25 years, and that love is as strong as ever. But when Sheila wakes up one morning feeling and acting differently, she and Joel face the challenge of keeping their marriage and family together while handling this new, very stressful situation,” explains Fresco.

‘Lucifer’ Season 2 Episode 11 Recap: Stewardess Interruptus

Lucifer season 2 episode 11

Oh, Lucifer, how we’ve missed you. Fox’s sexy crime/comedy/drama Lucifer returns from a much-too-long winter break with season two episode 11 airing on January 16, 2017. Titled ‘Stewardess Interruptus,’ the episode picks up right where episode 10 left off, with Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Chloe (Lauren German) leaning in for a kiss. The moment’s interrupted by a flight attendant (Jennifer Cheon) stripping as she walks in. Lucifer doesn’t want Chloe to leave, but Chloe excuses herself saying she was about to make a big mistake. Well, damn!

Lucifer sends the stewardess away without having sex. Yes, you read that correctly.

Maze (Lesley-Ann Brandt) has been teaching Trixie (Scarlett Estevez) all about the joys of sugary cereals, something Chloe’s not thrilled about. Trixie wants to know if her mom had a date and Chloe turns red and says no. She’s saved from further embarrassment by Maze showing off a newspaper article on the death of Perry Smith. Maze wonders why Chloe isn’t happier, and Chloe says she would have preferred Perry to rot in jail. Maze, disappointed, pours vodka into a bowl of cereal. Definitely not the normal breakfast of champions.

Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) turns up unexpectedly at Lucifer’s, and he warns her hot women are no longer allowed to just show up at his place – and that includes his mom. Charlotte says she was wrong about Chloe and that she’s actually impressed with the detective. Lucifer doesn’t really care because Stewardess Interruptus spoiled his moment with Chloe. Charlotte seems to be rooting for Chloe, telling Lucifer he needs to prove himself to his partner.

As Lucifer and Chloe prepare to investigate a new murder scene, Lucifer tries to convince her he didn’t sleep with the stewardess. She says it doesn’t matter and that she’s not part of the slut police (meaning he’s the slut, not the stewardess). Lucifer keeps insisting things have changed since they had their moment and he won’t ever even look at that flight attendant again. He’s immediately turned into a liar as Jana the flight attendant turns out to be the murder victim.

Chloe’s sorry about Jana’s death and Lucifer admits he didn’t really know her. Lucifer tries to convince Chloe that Jana left five minutes after she did, and then he went directly to the bar where 300 people would be his alibis. Chloe sounds jealous as she probes for more details, but insists she’s just laying out the timeline. When she asks again what he and Jana did during those five minutes, Lucifer’s insulted and declares he’s not a two-pump chump and if they’d had sex, Jana would have spent the night. Lucifer doesn’t even know Jana’s last name so it’s fortunate they find her cell phone. Lucifer’s not sure what to make of the fact the final texts refer to ditching that loser from Lux.

Back at the station, Dan (Kevin Alejandro) says the number on Jana’s phone is from a wealthy Silicon Valley guy named Andy Kleinburg. Dan hangs up on Chloe when Maze shows him the newspaper headline about Perry’s death. She wants to celebrate their “righteous kill,” and Dan reminds her they didn’t do it; the Russian mob killed Perry. He then angrily suggests they don’t see each other until it all blows over. (Poor Maze isn’t finding anyone who will help her celebrate Perry’s death!)

Lucifer, looking mega-handsome in a white linen suit, checks out the party going on at the Silicon Valley millionaire’s place. Chloe, as usual, is in full business mode, unimpressed by scantily clad partygoers. Lucifer continues trying to convince her nothing happened with Jana, and then Chloe tells him what she really thinks. This party is Lucifer’s idea of fun while her idea of a good time is being home with Trixie. Chloe says they’re too different and Lucifer counters by saying he’s sure opposites attract according to a wise music video cat. Their talk is interrupted when a guy hits on Chloe and Lucifer tells him to back off because she’s spoken for. Chloe shuts down Lucifer and briefly flirts with the random guy before tracking down Andy.

Andy (Jamie Kennedy) says his text to ditch the loser from Lux or else just meant if Jana didn’t, then they would never hook up. He says it was just a bootie call and after he walks away, Chloe insults Lucifer by saying he and Andy are a lot alike. But, she doesn’t think Andy killed Jana. Chloe gets a text that someone else has been murdered and the ballistics match Jana’s murder.

Murder victim number two is a man who was in the shower, tortured, and then murdered. It turns out this new victim was also one of Lucifer’s ex-lovers. Lucifer recalls he was very fit, and Chloe tells him he’s the only connection between the victims so far. Chloe thinks one of his exes might be killing off all the others, bringing up Charlotte as an example of one who would be capable of murder. Again, Lucifer declares Charlotte is not an ex and Chloe comes up with the bright idea that they need to warn his other exes. She asks for a list of people he’s slept with over the past eight weeks and he warns her she’ll need a bigger notepad.

Lucifer’s exes of both sexes show up at the police station and it’s an attractive assortment, as you’d expect. Dan is impressed while Chloe looks disgusted. One after another the women – and a few men – declare their night with Lucifer was the best night of their lives and they don’t care who else he sleeps with. Watching from behind the glass, Lucifer laughs and says, “You know, this is actually feeling a bit masturbatory even for me.” Dan and Chloe are also treated to descriptions of items Lucifer uses to pleasure his lovers, including a pan flute, butternut squash, Tibetan singing pot, honey, Vaseline, and a car battery. Chloe asks each ex-lover if they were emotionally intimate or if he brought them dinner, etc., but he didn’t do anything like that with any of them. Then Lucifer is taken aback to hear each one confess it was only meaningless, one-night-stand sex. No one had an emotional connection with Lucifer and it meant nothing. None of them have a motive for murder.

Just when you think the interrogations are over, in walks Charlotte which stuns Dan and Lucifer, still hanging out behind the glass. Charlotte tells Chloe she’s impressed with her and was only trying to prove Chloe wasn’t worthy of Lucifer. She believes Lucifer’s different when he’s with Chloe and she’s happy about it. She also says Lucifer deserves a woman like Chloe. Dan makes sure Lucifer won’t tell Chloe he slept with Charlotte, and Lucifer’s okay with that if Dan never sleeps with her again. Lucifer doesn’t want a stepdad…a statement that leaves Dan completely confused.

Maze stops by Dr. Linda’s to talk about doing something “awesome” and no one caring. Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) tells her her self-worth comes from within and says Maze is a better person than most humans (quickly learning that’s an insult to a demon). Maze is happy once again because Dr. Linda thinks she’s awesome. Maze missed the point, but at least she’s no longer pissed about being unappreciated.

Back in the interrogation room, Lucifer’s lovers describe a creepy woman who lurked around the club. Chloe finds out the woman’s name is Suki Price (Diana Bang), however Lucifer doesn’t recognize her picture. They get to Suki’s house and the walls are covered with pictures of Lucifer and women, complete with dates and strings connecting the photos. Even the detective is on the wall and there are creepy Lucifer dolls on the shelves. They didn’t realize Suki was in the bathroom and when she comes out, she squeals, “Lucifer!” and slams the bathroom door. Chloe makes her come back out and Lucifer doesn’t recognize her and Suki confirms they didn’t sleep together. She says he’s her perfect man and she’s loved him from afar. Lucifer thinks not having sex with him drove her into a murderous rage, but Suki has no idea what they’re talking about. When they tell her about the murders, she points to the flight attendant section of the wall where there’s a picture of the two murder victims together. Raj was Jana’s GBFFN – gay best friend for now.

Suki’s super helpful and her obsession is so intense she knows everything about Lucifer’s love life. Suki tells them the other man in the photo with Raj and Jana is a pilot they hung out with, and Chloe warns her not to leave town. Suki promises to never abandon Lucifer. (Writers, please bring Suki back for more episodes.)

Finally, we get to catch up with Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside). He and Charlotte discuss how they’re manipulating Chloe and Lucifer toward each other, with Charlotte reminding Amenadiel that God started this and they’re finishing it.

Back at the station, Dan has the scoop on the pilot, Tim Pickman (Toby Levins), who happens to have a police record and who now flies rich dudes to hot spots for drug smugglers. Maybe he killed Jana and Raj to keep them quiet. Dan tells them Tim’s about to take off on a last-minute flight and Chloe and Lucifer head out.

The next scene is straight out of an over-the-top action film. Lucifer speeds behind the plane on the runway with Chloe screaming in the passenger seat to slow down. He catches up to the plane, passes it, and then spins around to face it, forcing it to stop. Tim’s relieved when he exits the plane and learns it’s cops not killers who stopped it.

After parking the plane in the hangar, Tim says he was leaving because his closest friends just got murdered. He reveals a drug smuggler named Burt uses women like Jana as mules, but he was worried the guy would come after him. Lucifer asks him what he desires and Tim says he wants to build a cat sanctuary because Twinkles his cat helped turn his life around. Anyway, Jana asked him to smuggle but he refused. However, a package of Burt’s went missing and now he’s methodically coming after anyone who may have taken it. Lucifer suggests they need to do a sting to get Burt to come after someone of their choosing.

Maze is all in on acting like a flight attendant to take down Burt if she gets to rough him up before turning him over to the cops. Oh, Maze did learn from Dr. Linda! She says she’s doing it because she’s awesome, takes risks for her friends, and doesn’t need their thanks. Chloe wonders if she forgot to thank Maze for something and Maze replies, “No. Self-worth comes from within, bitches.”

Over at Lucifer’s place, Lucifer’s happy to see Amenadiel and asks his brother whether he thinks he’s boyfriend material. Amenadiel reminds him he doesn’t get emotionally attached and wonders if this line of questioning is about Chloe. Amenadiel, still working with his mom on getting Lucifer and Chloe hooked up, tells Lucifer he’s underestimated him and that maybe Lucifer underestimates himself when it comes to Chloe. Lucifer’s floored to receive a compliment from Amenadiel who tells Lucifer to ask himself if he’s a worthy romantic partner.

And now it’s time for the sting. Dan’s ready to go, seated at the bar as Maze walks in dressed as a flight attendant. She sits right next to Dan and orders drinks, thinking that looks more natural than him ignoring her. Maze, who doesn’t have a filter, begins talking about Dan needing to own up to what he did. He tries to mouth to her that he’s wired and Chloe’s listening, but Maze doesn’t get it. She tells him to come clean about sleeping with Charlotte and outside in the van, Chloe immediately questions Lucifer about Dan’s sexual activities. She wants to know if anyone hasn’t slept with Charlotte, and Lucifer raises his hand. She has a hard time believing him and Lucifer promises he just wants to prove his worth to her. Chloe says she and him are not happening; they are very different people and she has different priorities. She sends him out of the van and slips the headphones back on as Burt arrives at the bar.

Maze and Burt head up to her hotel room where she immediately attacks him. Unfortunately, this isn’t Burt. Burt gave this guy, Jim, money to say he was him and the real Burt is outside holding a gun to Lucifer’s head, demanding his package.

Chloe and Dan race to the hotel room where Maze is still restraining Jim. Jim says Burt took off when he saw a tall guy in a suit that he recognized. Chloe and Dan head out to find Lucifer while the real Burt tells Lucifer he recognized him from Andy’s party (Burt’s the guy who hit on Chloe). Burt thinks Jana was at Lux to stash the package, and Lucifer clears up that misconception telling Burt Jana left quickly because he wouldn’t sleep with her. Lucifer doesn’t think a package of cocaine is worth murdering people and Burt surprises Lucifer by telling him the package doesn’t contain drugs. Lucifer disarms Burt when he calls Jana a stupid bitch. Looking crazy (but with normal eyes, not devil eyes), Lucifer tells Burt Jana deserved better than both of them. Burt wants to make a deal but Lucifer calls him a bad man, and then admits he’s much worse. Lucifer shows his true face and Burt freaks out, cowering in fear as Dan, Chloe, and the cops show up to arrest him.

Chloe tells Dan she doesn’t care he slept with Charlotte. She’s too preoccupied wondering why a guy would kill so many people just to get back one package of drugs.

So, who took the package? Andy. He’s stumbling around the airplane hangar, apologizing for stealing the package and admitting he’s broke. The real owner of the package grabs it from Andy as Andy confesses he had no idea it wasn’t drugs. Inside are vials containing what seems to be a deadly virus, and Andy broke one. He falls to his knees, nose bleeding profusely. The mysterious stranger strangles him.

Chloe catches up with Lucifer who’s standing by himself on the beach. She’s flirty in a Chloe sort of way, but Lucifer tells her he’s changed his mind and doesn’t think they would work out after all. He won’t attempt any more “moments” and will just work with her as a partner. He confesses he had an epiphany that she deserves someone worthy and that’s not him. Lucifer tells Chloe she deserves someone better because she’s “selfless to a nauseating degree.” He also tells her she’s special and he’s not worth it. She thinks he’s probably right and then goes in for the kiss! Yes, it happened! He manages to say, “Detective,” before she kisses him again.

The trailer for episode 12 shows Lucifer and Chloe getting all hot and heavy, and it teases Lucifer asking his mom if this is actually real.

‘Gotham’ Season 3 Episode 12 Recap: Ghosts

Fox’s Gotham returns from its season three winter break with episode 12 which finds a familiar character returning from the dead and another one on the verge of being resurrected by the episode’s end. Airing on January 16, 2017, season three episode 12 titled ‘Ghosts’ begins with Mario’s funeral and a shot of Jim Gordon (Ben McKenzie) slowly walking through the cemetery. He’s not a welcome guest and doesn’t join the crowd around Mario’s grave. Harvey (Donal Logue) arrives to remind Jim that Carmine Falcone (John Doman) will be out for blood, even though Jim was forced to shoot Mario because he was infected and about to attack Lee (Morena Baccarin).

Elsewhere in Gotham City, Mayor Oswald Cobblepot (Robin Lord Taylor) is greeted with a standing ovation by the press following reports the market is up and crime is down. Of course, Ed Nygma isn’t there to join in on the celebration, and instead it’s Oswald’s Deputy Chief of Staff Tarquin (Dave Quay) who’s at the mayor’s side. Tarquin wants Oswald to meet with Margaret Hearst (Jan Maxwell) to promote the mayor’s accomplishments to a nationwide audience.

Jim returns from the funeral to find Victor Zsasz (Anthony Carrigan) gulping down milk in his kitchen. Victor’s there to deliver a message that even though Don Falcone wants him dead, he personally believes Jim’s a “good egg,” and he’s happy Mario is dead. (Totally bizarre little scene!)

Selena (Camren Bicondova) and her mom, Maria (Ivana Milicevic), have a chat at Selena’s hideout, and Selena wants to know why she’s returned after an 11-year absence. Maria says she grew up in the same orphanage where she left Selena and then changes the subject to ask if she’s really dating Bruce. Maria claims she had to leave her baby at an orphanage because she was wanted by the law. She says she loves Selena, but Selena just wants her to leave.

Oswald and Tarquin meet with Margaret Hearst who demands an exclusive interview with Oswald at City Hall that will air live, and she’s not taking no for an answer or taking Oswald’s suggestions into consideration. Margaret says she’s not a fan and won’t hold back, and Oswald seems willing if not eager to take on the challenge. He yells, “Dig deep! I have nothing to hide!” as she leaves. Just then he sees the ghost of his dead father, Elijah Van Dahl (Paul Reubens), following Margaret out of the room.

Over at the GCPD, Lucius Fox (Chris Chalk) shows Jim and Harvey the dead body of Melanie Blake, a young woman found naked on the train tracks who apparently died from having 1000+ volts of electricity sent through her body. But there’s much more to Melanie’s story… She was stabbed and pronounced dead three days ago, and two days ago she was in the morgue, dead. “Doesn’t anyone die in Gotham anymore?!” asks Harvey while Jim wonders if maybe she was only mostly dead. Harvey throws in one more one-liner – “It’s not a morgue, it’s a motel” – before he and Jim take off to investigate.

They’re stopped on the way out by Lee who, as the acting captain, wants Harvey to arrest Jim. Lee realizes Mario was infected, but she’s angry Jim was able to spare Captain Barnes’ life but not Mario’s. Looking at Jim with pure hatred, Lee calls Jim the “real virus,” someone who destroys people’s lives.

Over at the Cobblepot place, Oswald awakens to find his dead dad holding a candle and asking for help. His dad warns him he’s not to be trusted, but Oswald doesn’t know who “he” is. The police arrive just then to let Oswald know someone stole his father’s remains from the cemetery.

Jim and Harvey make it to the morgue and ask Dwight Pollard (David Dastmalchian), the night manager, why Melanie Blake walked out of there alive. Dwight pulls open the drawer where her body was being kept and, of course, it’s gone. He has no idea what happened and there aren’t any video cameras because nothing ever happens in the morgue that needs to be recorded.

At Wayne Manor, Bruce (David Mazouz) and Alfred (Sean Pertwee) are still trying to figure out why a glass owl is so important to the Court of Owls. They come to the decision to hide it but are interrupted before they’re able to by a knock on the door. When Bruce puts the owl down on a table to investigate the knock, the sunlight pierces it and reveals something’s inside. Unfortunately, Bruce had already walked away and didn’t see it.

The disturbance turns out to be Selena’s mom who wants to leave a box for her daughter. Bruce thanks her for her help, but Alfred wants to know what’s in the box. Selena doesn’t want anything from her mom, but Alfred and Bruce say they’ll make sure she gets the box. Bruce asks her not to leave, telling her he’ll speak with Selena.

Harvey and Jim find out Dwight worked at Indian Hill and follow him when he leaves the morgue.

Lee and Carmine meet to discuss their plans for Jim. Don Falcone admits he actually cares for Jim and loved him like a son, but it should be blood-for-blood. Lee says she hates Jim and Carmine tells her they’ll both carry the weight when Jim dies. He hopes she’ll be able to live with that.

Bruce pays a visit to Selena, delivering the box from her mom. Selena looks incredibly sad and Bruce says he can’t even imagine how she feels but that she should try to forgive her mom. Selena’s in no mood for forgiveness but opens the box anyway to find her baby shoe and other toys. Maria arrives then and they hug, crying.

Back out on the streets, Jim and Harvey have followed Dwight to Paramount Theater. It looks abandoned and is up for sale, but inside there’s a crowd gathered. A light comes on as Dwight takes the stage. He works up the audience, getting them excited for the arrival of a man with no fear. A video plays of Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) and the crowd is enthralled. Jim and Harvey make their presence known then and tell everyone to disperse, but part of the crowd fights them as the rest flee. Soon everyone runs outside and Jim spots Victor right before he and a couple of his goons begin shooting.

Jim saves Harvey and then takes off to draw their fire. The two goons follow Jim and he takes out one as Victor accidentally shoots the other. Victor stalks Jim, telling him he’s “had a good run,” but Jim manages to distract Victor long enough to engage him in hand-to-hand combat. Jim gets the best of Victor and walks away leaving Victor knocked out.

Another night and another visit from Penguin’s dad. He wants his body back so it can be reburied and again tells Oswald “he” can’t be trusted. This time he calls this person who can’t be trusted “the birthday boy.”

Lee visits Captain Barnes (Michael Chiklis) at Arkham to find out if Mario would have killed her because of the virus. Captain Barnes says he loves the way he feels, calling the virus the antidote rather than the disease. Barnes pretty much proves Jim had to kill Mario by declaring how much he wants to kill all the human garbage in Gotham. He will be the city’s Executioner!

Maria and Selena join Bruce and Alfred for dinner at Wayne Manor, and it’s obvious Alfred has fallen for Maria. Bruce suggests she spend the night because it’s late, promising Alfred will take her back to her hotel tomorrow.

Oswald believes he knows who the birthday boy is from his dad’s warnings after watching the City Hall staff sing Happy Birthday to his Deputy Chief of Staff. He follows footprints to a closet where he finds his dad’s decaying body in a bag. Tarquin walks in just then and Oswald screams at him that he’s a sick man for digging up his dad. Tarquin claims to have no idea what’s in the bag or how it got there. Oswald beats Tarquin to death, smashing in his head while screaming.

Lee races over to Carmine’s place, demanding he call off the hit on Jim. She tells him Barnes is completely insane from the virus, but Carmine wonders if Lee really hates Jim. In fact, he believes she still loves him.

Oswald is late to his interview with Margaret Hearst after killing Tarquin and shows up, agitated, minutes before they go live. Margaret’s first question is how Oswald made the city a safer place. After covering a blood spot on his cuff, Oswald answers.

Meanwhile at Jim’s place, Gordon almost shoots his partner when he shows up unannounced. Harvey has brought Jim a shotgun which is immediately put to good use when bullets fly through the front door. Victor breaks in and blasts the place, switching guns rather than reloading. (Why didn’t Jim kill him earlier when he had the chance?) Victor gets the drop on Harvey and then Jim gets the drop on Victor. Victor tells Jim to put down his weapon or Harvey dies while Harvey yells at Jim to shoot Victor. The stand-off comes to an abrupt end when Carmine arrives to tell Victor the job’s canceled. Victor readily accepts the news and leaves with a smile on his face. Jim apologizes to Carmine for Mario’s death and Carmine, not accepting it, tells Jim he’d be dead if it was up to him.

Margaret continues the interview by pointing out that many people died so that Oswald could rise to power, reminding the viewers it was murder that got Oswald sentenced to Arkham. Oswald tries to turn the conversation around, saying he rescued Gotham from Theo Galavan. Margaret calls Oswald’s release from Arkham controversial and suggests that the deaths of Oswald’s father, mother, stepbrother, and stepsister are suspicious. She asks if he had his siblings killed to inherit his father’s money just as Oswald’s dead father makes an appearance clutching the statuette used to bash in Tarquin’s head. Oswald begins panicking and demands to end the interview, saying “to hell with the people” when Margaret reminds him everyone wants to know his secrets.

Oswald races back to the office and Tarquin’s body and his dad’s corpse are missing. The room is neat and tidy, without a speck of blood. Upset and confused, Oswald runs from the building as across the street Edward Nygma (Cory Michael Smith) smiles. Tarquin’s body and Elijah’s corpse are in the trunk of his car and Edward congratulates his accomplice, who had made himself look like Elijah, for his good work.

Barbara (Erin Richards) and Tabitha (Jessica Lucas) arrive and are happy Penguin went crazy on live television. Edward walks everyone through exactly how they pulled off the stunt, and Tabitha wonders why he just didn’t leave the bodies in Oswald’s offices. Nygma explains he wants Oswald to have a “slow, painful death with 1,000 deep cuts.” After that, they’ll take over his empire.

Alfred drives Maria to her hotel and receives a kiss on the cheek for his kindness as Selena looks disgusted. After Alfred drops her off, Maria and Selena head to Maria’s hotel room and find the door’s open. Maria tells Selena to wait outside and enters the room where she’s confronted by a man who demands money. Selena enters and tells the man she can get the money from a friend. He wants to know who the rich guy is, and Selena assures him Bruce will give him the money. After he leaves, Selena wants to know who this man is and Maria says they need to warn Bruce and Alfred.

Dwight meets with his cohort in bringing the dead back to life. Since Jim and Harvey are onto him, Dwight says they must move quickly and get “him.” And who is this man they need to retrieve? Jerome, obviously.
