FBI is a fast-paced drama about the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This elite unit brings to bear all their talents, intellect, and technical expertise on major cases in order to keep New York and the country safe. Born into a multigenerational law enforcement family, Special Agent Maggie Bell commits deeply to the people she works with as well as those she protects. Her partner is Special Agent Omar Adom “OA” Zidan, a West Point graduate via Bushwick who spent two years undercover for the DEA before being cherry-picked by the FBI.

Overseeing them is Special Agent in Charge Isobel Castille, who operates under intense pressure and has undeniable command authority. The team also includes Assistant Special Agent in Charge Jubal Valentine, the nerve center of the office whose ability to easily relate to and engage with both superiors and subordinates makes him a master motivator. Special Agent Stuart Scola is an Ivy League-educated Wall Streeter-turned-FBI agent. These first-class agents tenaciously investigate cases of tremendous magnitude, including terrorism, organized crime, and counterintelligence.

‘The Life of Chuck’ Teaser Trailer: Tom Hiddleston in a Feel-Good Stephen King Adaptation

Mike Flanagan dives into another Stephen King story with The Life of Chuck. However, unlike Gerald’s Game and Doctor Sleep, The Life of Chuck is life-affirming rather than horrifying. The teaser trailer focuses on Tom Hiddleston as the titular character. The only words spoken are, “The universe is large, and it contains multitudes, but it also contains me.”

In addition to Tom Hiddleston, the cast includes Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Mark Hamill, and Jacob Tremblay. David Dastmalchian, Matthew Lillard, Annalise Basso, Benjamin Pajak, Nick Offerman, Mia Sara, Carl Lumbly, Samantha Sloyan, Harvey Guillen, and Kate Siegel also star.

“A life-affirming, genre-bending story based on Stephen King’s novella about three chapters in the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz,” reads Neon’s synopsis. Neon picked up the film after its Toronto International Film Festival premiere, where it went on to win the festival’s People’s Choice Award. The studio, which is coming off huge Oscar victories with Anora, is targeting a June 2025 release.

Mike Flanagan adapted Stephen King’s story, directed, edited, and served as a producer. Executive producers include King, Melinda Nishioka, D. Scott Lumpkin, Molly C. Quinn, Matthew M. Welty, Elan Gale, Dan Williams, Amanda Williams, and Kevin Park.

‘Black Bag’ Review: A Thrilling Spy Game of Secrets and Suspicion

Black Bag stars Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender

Is it possible to trust anyone—even your spouse—in a world of secrets, lies, and intrigue? The spy thriller Black Bag explores this very topic.

As the movie begins, National Cyber Security Centre Agent George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender) meets secretly with fellow agent Meachum (Gustaf Skarsgard), who informs him that a mole has stolen a cyber-worm device called Severus, which can destabilize a nuclear facility. Meachum gives George a list of five names of agents, including his wife, Kathryn (Cate Blanchett), and tells him he needs to find the mole. “Give me two weeks,” says George. “Thousands of innocent people will die,” replies Meachum. “Okay, one week,” answers George.

George invites the four suspected colleagues—Colonel James Stokes (Regé-Jean Page), the in-house psychologist Dr. Zoe Vaughan (Naomie Harris), fellow spy Freddie Smalls (Tom Burke), and new recruit cyber specialist Clarissa (Marisa Abela)—to his and Kathryn’s home for a small dinner party to relax and gain insight into them. At the gathering they play a parlor game George makes up, which leads to a few heated exchanges between the guests as well as some infidelity, just as it was supposed to.

As George’s investigation continues, he starts to worry that the mole might indeed be his beloved Kathryn when he catches her in a lie. In the realm of spies and falsehoods, how can one determine who is being truthful? When Kathryn informs George that she’s going to be out of town one day in the middle of the week, he asks where she’s going. “Black bag,” she replies, which is the code agents use with each other when their ops are classified.

On the day of Kathryn’s trip, George gets Clarissa to assist him in unofficially redirecting a satellite. George wants to spy on Kathryn while she’s out of the country meeting with a spy from another country.  As his hunt for the mole continues, George realizes he may have to face a choice between his love for his wife and his loyalty to his country.

Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag is a slick, smartly written spy drama with top-notch performances from an A-list cast. It’s Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy meets Clue with a little Mr. and Mrs. Smith tossed in.

Michael Fassbender delivers a controlled and honed performance as the cool, calculating, and meticulous spy George Woodhouse. He subtly displays the conflict his character feels as he begins to fear that his wife could be the mole he’s hunting.

Cate Blanchett delivers a pitch-perfect performance as Kathryn, George’s wife, playing her as a sexy, mysterious, smart, and sometimes coldly calculating woman. Blanchett nails the femme fatale style without giving away if Kathryn is one. Blanchett and Fassbender have solid chemistry together onscreen.

Pierce Brosnan delivers a memorable performance as the chief of the spy agency. The sequence in which he forces George, Colonel Stokes, and Smalls to a private meeting to reveal the agency’s leak is powerful. The audience can feel and sense the three men’s unease over the subject, as well as Brosnan’s intimidating presence over them.

With a running duration of just over an hour and a half, Soderbergh expertly weaves the plot’s twists and surprises while keeping the pace tight and taut. Black Bag is a stylish, well-crafted, and intriguing espionage film that entertains.

‘Landman’ Season 2 Renewal Surprises Nobody

Landman Stars Billy Bob Thornton and Ali Larter

Paramount+ has officially renewed Landman starring Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton and co-created by Taylor Sheridan (the Yellowstone franchise, Mayor of Kingstown) and Christian Wallace. After being listed as one of the Top 10 Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) original series for the fourth quarter of 2024, the renewal is not surprising.

Paramount+ reports that the fourth quarter Top 10 SVOD list marked the first time a streamer, other than Netflix, has earned three spots. Paramount+ was represented by Tulsa King (#4), Landman (#8), and Lioness (#9).

Landman was one of the biggest shows of the year because of Taylor Sheridan’s unique ability to tap into the cultural zeitgeist, harnessing the Neo-Western themes of rugged individualism, ambition, and working-class struggles set against contemporary debates around energy, climate change and economic growth,” stated Chris McCarthy, President and CEO, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks. “The series has helped drive Paramount+ to new heights as the number two SVOD in the U.S. for Original Hours Watched in Q4, alongside our other hit series Tulsa King, The Agency, Lioness, and Dexter: Original Sin.”

The drama holds Paramount+’s record for the most-watched series premiere and finale.

In addition to Billy Bob Thornton, season one stars Oscar nominee Demi Moore, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan, and Colm Feore. Executive producers include Taylor Sheridan, Billy Bob Thornton, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Christian Wallace, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Stephen Kay. Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch and Texas Monthly’s J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt also executive produce.

Landman is set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas and is a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs,” reads Paramount+’s synopsis. “Based on the notable 11-part podcast Boomtown from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy, and our geopolitics.”

Season one debuted on November 17, 2024. Paramount+ did not announce a target date for season two.

The Equalizer Synopsis, Courtesy of CBS

The Equalizer is a reimagining of the classic series starring Academy Award nominee and multi-hyphenate Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, an enigmatic woman with a mysterious background who uses her extensive skills as a former CIA operative to help those with nowhere else to turn. McCall presents to most as an average single mom who is quietly raising her teenage daughter. But to a trusted few, she is The Equalizer – an anonymous guardian angel and defender of the downtrodden, who’s also dogged in her pursuit of personal redemption.

Robyn’s clandestine work and her personal life often collide when her smart and observant daughter, Delilah, and her aunt Vi, who lives with Robyn to help her balance life as a working mother, struggle to conceal her vigilante career. While Robyn worries about the mental and emotional toll her work exacts on her family, she is joined in her pursuit of justice by Melody “Mel” Bayani, an edgy bar owner and sniper from Robyn’s past who recently quit the Equalizer team to recover from post-traumatic stress disorder; and Harry Keshegian, a paranoid and brilliant white-hat hacker married to Mel.

As Robyn aids the oppressed and exploited, she sometimes works with Marcus Dante, an NYPD detective and trusted friend who respects the need for Robyn’s type of justice even as he often questions her methods.”

The support from everyone at Apple has been phenomenal, and the fact that they’ve ordered a second season before we aired our first is an incredible validation and a tribute to the work of this stellar cast, as well as the crew, writers, directors, and producers who worked so hard to make this show what it is. We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”

‘Secrets of the Penguins’ Docuseries: Blake Lively Narrates the 3-Part Series

National Geographic’s new Secrets of the Penguins trailer shows just how intelligent the tuxedoed birds are and how they’re really family-oriented. Blake Lively (Another Simple Favor) narrates the three-part documentary series, which promises to reveal never-before-seen behavior.

The docuseries comes from Emmy winner Nat Geo Explorer Bertie Gregory and is executive produced by National Geographic’s Pam Caragol, Lightstorm Earth’s James Cameron and Maria Wilhelm, and Talesmith’s Ruth Roberts and Martin Williams. Secrets of the Penguins premieres on April 20, 2025 at 8pm ET/PT on Nat Geo, and on April 21 on Disney+ and Hulu. It arrives on Disney Channel on Earth Day, April 22.

National Geographic released the following description of the three-part docuseries:

“While many documentaries have explored penguins, Secrets of the Penguins takes it to a whole new level. Talesmith’s team, led by Bertie and over 70 world-class scientists and filmmakers, embarked on a two-year, globe-spanning adventure—from the rocky beaches of Cape Town and the icy shores of South Georgia Island to the tropical Galapagos and Namibia’s desert caves—capturing penguins like never before. Pushing the boundaries of wildlife filmmaking, a three-person crew endured an astonishing 274 days filming on the Ekström Ice Shelf in Antarctica, home to a colony of 20,000 emperor penguins.

Facing one of the planet’s harshest environments, they captured never-before-seen moments like a bonded pair of emperors practicing egg transfers with a snowball to hone their skills for the moment they would need to transfer a real egg, tenacious chicks navigating brash ice amid climate change, and young penguins using their beaks to hoist themselves out of a crevasse.

With breathtaking, award-winning cinematography and cutting-edge camera technology, the series captures even more never-before-seen and rare moments in the wild. For the first time, witness healthy ‘rockaroni’ chicks—a rare hybrid of rockhopper and macaroni penguins—offering a fascinating glimpse into potential evolution and adaptation. Other remarkable scenes include a brave rockhopper fending off a southern sea lion, the first-ever footage of a hidden cave colony of African penguins, and clever Galapagos penguins teaming up for a daring heist: stealing fish straight from pelican beaks and skillfully herding sardine bait balls.”

National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory discovers the penguins’ problem-solving, “talking,” and enduring search for new worlds.

“Rebels with a Cause”
It takes a special type of courageous penguin to survive the fierce Southern Ocean, but 40 million crowd its isolated, rocky outposts, and they are some of the most successful penguins on Earth. National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory follows the rockhoppers, gentoos, and macaronis to discover a world of risk-takers, rebels, and unconventional parents.
