‘Blue Bloods’ Season 14 Episode 17 Preview: Only 2 New Episodes Remain

CBS’s Blue Bloods is taking a two-week break before returning with the show’s penultimate episode, “Entitlement.” With just two new episodes left, season 14 episode 17 finds Eddie and Badillo dealing with Jamie’s confidential informant. Directed by Jackeline Tejada from a script by Yasmine Cadet and Daniel Truly, episode 17 will air on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 10pm ET/PT.

Tom Selleck returns to lead the final season’s cast as Frank Reagan. Donnie Wahlberg stars as Danny Reagan, Bridget Moynahan plays Erin Reagan, Will Estes is Jamie Reagan, Len Cariou is Henry Reagan, Marisa Ramirez plays Maria Baez, and Vanessa Ray stars as Eddie Janko.

“Entitlement” Plot: Eddie and Badillo try to help a man whose apartment has been taken over by a squatter who also happens to be Jamie’s confidential informant. Also, Danny and Baez investigate when a star student is found dead in her dormitory. Frank suspects the governor has an agenda when he comes to him with a proposal. And Erin oversteps when she tries to play matchmaker for Anthony. Amanda Kloots guest stars.

Blue Bloods is a drama about a multi-generational family of cops dedicated to New York City law enforcement. Frank Reagan is the New York Police Commissioner, and heads both the police force and the Reagan brood. He runs his department as diplomatically as he runs his family, even when dealing with the politics that plagued his unapologetically bold father, Henry, during his stint as chief. A source of pride and concern for Frank is his eldest son, Danny, a seasoned detective, family man, and Iraq War vet who, on occasion, uses dubious tactics to solve cases with his partner and new mother, Detective Maria Baez.

Erin, the middle daughter, is a New York assistant D.A. who serves as the legal compass for her siblings and father, while also pursuing a run for district attorney. Jamie is the youngest Reagan, a Harvard Law graduate and the family’s golden boy. Unable to deny the family tradition, Jamie decided to give up a lucrative future in law and follow in the family footsteps as a cop. He’s found a friend and ally in his wife, Eddie, who keeps him on his toes, and has very different reasons than the Reagans for joining the police force.

Ghosts Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decided to convert Woodstone Mansion, which Sam inherited, into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Danielle Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Brandon Scott Jones); a ‘60s hippie fond of hallucinogens (Sheila Carrasco); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Richie Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Asher Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Román Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Sam’s ancestor (Rebecca Wisocky), to name a few. The opening of the B&B has been a source of intrigue, anxiety, and curiosity among the spirits, but they will gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant.

‘Yellowstone’ Season 5 Episode 11 Recap: “Three Fifty-Three”

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11 Recap
Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly in ‘Yellowstone’ season 5 (Photo Credit: Paramount Network)

The action in Yellowstone season 5 episode 11 begins in the daylight hours before John Dutton’s murder. For fans wondering if we’d see exactly what happened to the Dutton family patriarch, episode 11, “Three Fifty-Three,” answers that question.

Of course, Beth (Kelly Reilly) loves being with Rip (Cole Hauser), but she knows that one year of visiting him in Texas will drive her crazy. She wants to send Lloyd to take Rip’s place, but he won’t let her. His duty is to the ranch, even though he’d obviously rather be with his gorgeous wife.

Back at the ranch, Kayce (Luke Grimes), Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and Tate (Brecken Merrell) get to work moving their belongings into their new home. They each take turns adjusting a drawing on the wall, with Kayce sneaking in a final tweak after Monica warns him not to.

Monica suggests they say a blessing before eating, and Tate’s confused at this sudden change. Monica insists they have much more than others and need to be grateful. She tears up, and Tate jokes that it’s that time of the month. Kayce isn’t helping matters when he laughs at all of Tate’s teenage boy quips.

As Kayce’s family settles in, Beth is learning Italian on tape while driving back to Montana. She speeds through the night and suddenly reacts as if punched in the stomach. It’s 3:53am, and at that exact moment, her father is being murdered by three men.

After cutting the power, the men sneak through the governor’s residence, locate a sleeping John Dutton, and render him unconscious. They drag his limp body into the bathroom, and one of the hired killers injects him between his toes. A prescription bottle is placed in the medicine cabinet before they put a gun to his temple and fire a single shot.

Officers are alerted to a gunshot, and EMS is requested.

Beth’s panicking, certain something is wrong. She immediately calls Rip and confirms he’s fine. Rip advises her to pull over if she gets tired, chalking her concern up to the long drive.

At 4:07am Kayce lies awake in bed, sweating. He also feels something is wrong, and Monica asks if he had a bad dream. His cell phone rings, and as soon as he sees it’s the Montana State Police, Kayce knows it wasn’t a bad dream that woke him.

The timing now switches to the days following John’s murder. Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Senator Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz) have a short chat at the new governor’s swearing-in ceremony, and Lynelle unwittingly tells the man who set up John’s murder to give himself time to grieve. Jamie claims he will. John’s replacement, Steven Rawlings, doesn’t agree with John’s policy decisions and plans to change things. Jamie assures Steven that he also disagreed with his dad’s decisions and is ready to work to put contracts back in place.

Yellowstone season 5 episode 11 recap

Steven, Lynelle, Jamie, and John’s assistant, Clara, meet in the governor’s office. Clara is offered the Chief of Staff position as the meeting gets underway. Jamie confirms that Market Equities will resume construction once the lease is reinstated. He tells the governor that his office will handle the issue of getting the land out of the conservation easement. The governor’s happy to learn the Duttons can’t afford the inheritance tax and will have no option but to sell.

Governor Rawlings wonders why the state doesn’t take control of the land around the airport by eminent domain so that the state controls the lease. Jamie seems all-in on that proposal, but Lynelle reminds him that he argued against that when a condo project was proposed. The lying snake dressed in a nice suit claims to have changed his mind because this development will become the largest employer in Montana within five years.

Lynelle describes what they’re suggesting as violating the Fourth Amendment and abusing state authority. Jamie acts as if he still cares about the ranch and says selling part to save some of it is the only option. Lynelle fires back, suggesting the land go up for private auction or be sold via a realtor. The state can make an offer to purchase it, just like anyone else.

Lynelle explains that the conservation easement will be a much more difficult issue to get around than Jamie’s making it out to be. The legal fund comes from a federal grant, so the Duttons can afford the fight. She advises Jamie and Steven that although John’s decisions were self-serving, they also kept this area from becoming dependent on tourism-related taxes.

“Take a look at Jackson Hole and its lack of affordable housing. Look at the traffic; look at the strain on its emergency services,” says Lynelle, adding, “Because that is what you’re inviting.”

After she leaves, Jamie says he’s obligated to preserve as much of the ranch as he can. If the state purchases it, that helps expedite the process. Steven is dumbstruck when Jamie reveals the offer was for $500,000 million for 50,000 acres. The state can’t afford that. Steven wonders why he can’t just sell the land himself, and Jamie confesses his siblings won’t sell. “If we want it, we have to take it,” says the heartless sleazeball.

Clara’s heard enough. She turns down the job of Chief of Staff and races after Lynelle. Clara asks if Lynelle might have a position for her and Lynelle believes she can make room on her staff. However, Lynelle points out that Clara isn’t a current government employee. That means she’s not bound by government confidentiality. Clara understands exactly what Lynelle is getting at.

Kayce arrives at the Lewis & Clark County building and asks the coroner for the report on John Dutton’s death and to see the body. He’s told a toxicology exam wasn’t done and immediately calls the detective in charge on speakerphone. The detective instructs the coroner to run one and to reexamine the body for signs of struggle. (The scene of the murder showed the killers dragging John into the bathroom.)

The coroner says she’ll send over a final report once it’s done, but Kayce’s unwilling to wait. There’s nothing on her desk more important than the death of the governor, and he reminds her only Fish & Game and Offices of the Livestock Association are allowed to enter any building without a warrant. He’s going to watch as she reexamines his dad, and she assures him she didn’t perform an invasive autopsy out of respect for his family. It was obvious to her he had committed suicide.

Kayce doesn’t relent and sticks around to watch the examination. He’s expressionless as his father’s dead body is laid before him. The coroner shows him the entrance wound and flash burns. John’s right hand had gunpowder residue. Kayce asks what she’d look for if she suspected a homicide, and the coroner confirms she’d assume there was a struggle. That would leave bruising on the body. Kayce reminds her that John would have been asleep, given the hour. He demonstrates how they’d subdue someone during his tour in Afghanistan and that John could have been unconscious when he was shot.

The coroner takes a closer look and sees bruising along John’s neckline. However, she believes it could have been when he fell to the floor after the shot. Kayce asks how it would be possible to hit both sides of your neck and your forehead on the floor at the same time. She takes another look at his full body and pauses by his feet. There are abrasions on the tops of his toes as if his feet were dragged across the floor. Her assistants turn over the body, and there are indentations on his back from pressure against the skin.

The coroner appears to be coming around to Kayce’s opinion and asks how you snatch someone who’s sleeping. He explains you’d need three men: one to hold the calves, one to restrain the arms, and one to implement the choke. She now believes John’s body shows signs that he was forcibly restrained. The wounds all line up with the time of death.

She can’t list it as a homicide but can change the cause to undetermined. That will keep the investigation open. Kayce wants the updated report released now and puts the detective back on speakerphone to tell him the investigation should be reopened.

The coroner apologizes for missing it. Because he’s a decent person, Kayce replies, “You were supposed to miss it.”

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11 Recap

Kayce calls Beth to fill her in and she’s enraged that the killers, upon Jamie’s orders, held their dad down. Kayce wants to confront Jamie now, but Beth insists he’s hers. Kayce really wants to see him, but Beth begs him to leave Jamie to her. Kayce hangs up without responding.

Kayce meets with Detective Dillard (Rory Cochrane) who confirms the coroner believes John’s death was staged. Kayce asks to see the gun and immediately identifies it as John’s service weapon. His dad gave that to him, and it was kept at the Livestock office. There are records of anyone who went in and out, and there are also security cameras. Kayce calls his office and asks for Dillard to be given a name/password to access the footage.

Kayce wants a statement released, but Dillard believes that will cause whoever did it to run for cover. “You might never find out who did it, but you might find out who paid for it,” says Kayce.

Kayce’s next stop is Jamie’s office, and he forces the receptionist into Jamie’s office. (He doesn’t want her calling the police.) Kayce slams Jamie onto his desk, and he tumbles to the floor. Jamie begs him to stop and tells him he can’t listen to Beth because she’s poisonous and “rotted from the inside.” Jamie tries to act innocent and swears he doesn’t benefit from the airport because he’s out of the will. He asks Kayce to look him in the eye as he says, “I had nothing to do with our father’s death.”

Jamie plays the victim, whimpering about not having family or anyone to share his grief with. He’s still fighting to protect the ranch and tells Kayce that he should sell a big portion or risk losing all of it. It would all be gone for nothing.

“I love you. Even if I hated him – which I did – I could never do that to you,” says Jamie, lying through his teeth. Kayce replies, “I hope not, Jamie. I really do – for your sake and for mine.”

As soon as Kayce leaves, Jamie learns about the change in the death certificate. The Helena Police Chief holds a press conference announcing the change and that the police have determined it was a homicide. Because John was the governor, the police chief requested assistance from the ATF and FBI.

The man who was contracted for the hit calls someone as soon as the announcement is made. Meanwhile, Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) and Ellis Steele (John Emmet Tracy) hold a lunch meeting with associates in a restaurant. Sarah believes construction will start in a few months and that the conservation easement won’t be a problem to get overturned. But as she’s talking, she’s distracted by a TV showing the press conference with a chyron stating, “Helena P.D. List Governor Dutton’s Death as a Homicide.”

Jamie heads to the assembly and speaks privately with Governor Rawlings. Steven knows the optics are terrible; they’re revoking John’s orders on the day the world learns John was murdered. They will look complicit in John’s death.

Rawlings addresses the legislature and says it’s with grim honor he stands before them as the 27th governor. Rage is justified in response to the news. However, John Dutton revoked a legal contract and used his influence to revoke zoning allocations. Rawlings announces that he’s reinstating the lease and overriding the county’s zoning assignment. He also reveals he’s invoking eminent domain on the property and ordering Jamie Dutton to recuse himself from anything to do with the ranch as well as the investigation into John Dutton’s death.

Governor Rawlings asks for a voice vote on his orders, and the ayes have it.

Beth watches the legislature broadcast and informs Kayce they reinstated the lease. She admits they could have raised enough to cover the taxes if they had just sold the land. It’s too late for that now. Beth believes the state will pay them 10 cents on the dollar, but they must do that fast so she and Kayce don’t sell it first.

“We can sell it, or we can lose it, Kayce. There are no other options,” says Beth. Their only option is what part they decide to sell, and how many acres.

Yellowstone Season 5 Episode 11 Recap
Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater and Mo Brings Plenty as Mo in ‘Yellowstone’ season 5 (Photo Credit: Paramount Network)

Their discussion is interrupted by the arrival of Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo Brings Plenty. Kayce greets them and they express their condolences. Thomas promises to help however they can, and Mo believes whatever Kayce needs came to him in a vision.

Thomas and Beth have a private chat. Thomas admits that although they were adversaries, he respected John. Beth reveals that John also respected Thomas. Thomas shares John’s dream of keeping the ranch whole and says the Department of Interior is a snake that speaks from its tail to keep its mouth free for striking. The government is going to screw the Duttons and basically take the entire ranch for next to nothing.

Thomas doesn’t have a solution to stop this from happening. However, he offers his help if Beth needs it. Thomas admits he still wants this land (and always has), but he wants what John wanted – to keep the land pristine. However, Thomas knows keeping it whole is no longer possible, but he is willing to help keep as much of it as possible.

Beth says some private equity groups have an interest in maintaining open spaces. She’d like to partner with them. She’d be willing to sell the more valuable land by the river and draft off the development on the north end of the property. Beth’s a realist but it’s her father’s dream, and this fantasy of keeping the land has destroyed her family.

“There is no preserving this place; there is prolonging its collapse,” says Beth. If they’d acted sooner, they could have controlled its evolution. Now, she can do nothing about the land’s impending destruction.

Kayce tells Mo that his vision said he had to choose between his family and the ranch. But he’s still not sure what that means. Mo explains that when the time comes, Kayce will know and it will feel like fate, not a choice. “You’ll see it, and you’ll smile because the choice will be so clear,” says Mo.

Sarah buys a burner phone and calls the mercenary company she hired. Their number is no longer in service. She smashes the phone and is shocked to see Jamie standing in her kitchen. He blames her for his dad’s death and for getting him recused from everything having to do with the Duttons.

Sarah explains that the new governor will blame him and John for anything that goes wrong. It’s just what powerful people do and has nothing to do with John’s murder. Steven can’t beat Jamie in an election, so he’ll sabotage him in advance.

Sarah is convinced there’s no proof of John’s murder. Sarah insists that all the evidence is easily dismissed (it’s not) and the investigation will be fruitless. (She doesn’t know Kayce or Beth well enough to make that claim.) Sarah assures Jamie there’s nothing that connects him to the murder because, truthfully, he knew nothing. Even if she confessed, he would only be an accessory after the fact.

She did it for money and he did it to become the governor. He slaps her when she says he’d lie in John’s bed in the mansion without changing the sheets. Sarah slaps him back and warns him he’s no longer important now that John Dutton is dead. The Dutton name means nothing anymore.

Jamie waits about 30 seconds before calling and apologizing for slapping her. Sarah says he needs to trust her and start believing in himself. She barely finished telling Jamie he has nothing to fear when a car pulls up alongside her and she’s shot in the head. Jamie is still on the phone and hears everything, including the five additional shots that are fired into her body.

Jamie screams, “No!” in anguish and calls 9-1-1, sobbing.

‘Tracker’ Season 2 Episode 7 Recap: “Man’s Best Friend”

Tracker Season 2 Episode 7 Recap
Justin Hartley as Colter Shaw and Park as Barkley The Dog in ‘Tracker’ season 2 episode 7 (Photo: Darko Sikman © 2024 CBS Broadcasting, Inc)

CBS’s Tracker season two episode seven confirms Colter Shaw is a dog person. While gassing up in Denver, Colter (Justin Hartley) stops a service station employee from using a broom on a hungry dog going through the garbage. Colter points out the dog isn’t a stray; he has a collar and leash.

The dog immediately responds when Colter says, “Sit,” and allows him to remove a thorn from his paw. According to his tag, the dog’s named Barkley. The tag also has his address. Colter snaps a photo of the address and promises to take him home after giving him plenty of head scritches.

Colter puts him in his truck and heads inside to pay. When he returns, he sees that someone has broken the rear passenger window and the dog is gone. He calls Velma (Abby McEnany) with info on what he’s up to, but there’s not much to go on. The security camera’s view was blocked, so there isn’t any video of who took the dog. Velma can’t find anyone online looking for Barkley, but she’ll keep looking.

Colter heads to Barkley’s address and finds that someone has broken the front door. A noise upstairs draws his attention, and he finds a mother and son tied up and gagged. The mom explains that when she got home from work last night, she went upstairs and then heard the front door being kicked in. She grabbed her gun, ran downstairs, and found a man pointing a gun at her son, Aiden. The man disarmed her and ordered them to cooperate.

She didn’t get a look at him because he was wearing a mask. He tied them up and left them. Aiden says the man stole Barkley, but they don’t know what else he may have taken. Colter doesn’t think this was a robbery; he believes the man was there just to steal Barkley.

The mom calls the cops and while they’re looking around, Aiden’s distress over Barkley is plain to see. Colter says he had a dog named Tuffy when he was a kid who wasn’t tough at all. (He loved to eat socks.) Aiden wonders what Colter does for a living, and Colter explains what a rewardist does. He’s never looked for a missing dog before, and Aiden offers him his birthday money – $187 – if he can find Barkley.

“You know what? That is exactly the amount of money it is to find Barkley. I will absolutely help you find that dog,” says Colter, who we could not love any more than we do right this minute.

Colter tells Detective Anderson how he got involved in this and offers to show the detective where the dog was last seen. The detective doesn’t seem to buy Colter’s theory that this was about the dog, and he asks Colter to clear out.

Colter asks the mother about Barkley and she reveals a man called yesterday about buying their dog. They adopted Barkley from a rescue shelter last year after her husband died. Colter explains her son hired him to find the dog, and he’s there to help. Colter spots the video game camera, and the mother confirms Aiden was online during the break-in.

Colter calls Bobby (Eric Graise) to break into the video game camera, and Bobby brings up footage from last night. He streams the footage to Colter’s cell phone, showing the masked man breaking in. Colter notices there’s a car key with a tag on it hanging from his pocket, and it turns out the tag belongs to a rental car company. Bobby discovers Max Miller was the last person to rent the car that goes with that tag.

Colter arrives at Max’s address and there are blood drops outside leading to the house. The door’s also kicked open and Colter looks around inside. He snaps a photo of a framed picture of Max posing with his fellow soldiers.

Suddenly, a man attacks Colter and Colter takes him down. He holds the man at gunpoint and orders him to explain what’s going on. Nate Riggins (Dylan Bruce) served with Max, and Colter says he’s just looking for the dog. Nate reveals Barkley was Max’s dog and when Max went to rehab last year, Nate put the dog in a rescue facility that would adopt him to a good home. Nate got a call from Max yesterday saying he needed to find his old dog. He wasn’t making any sense, and then Nate heard gunshots and the phone went dead.

Max has been living clean since he met his wife, Chelsea. Colter points out that someone broke down the door and there are signs of a struggle inside Max’s house. Plus, Max’s wife is missing. Nate offers to help, realizing what is going on is bad.

Colter stops for a second, then gives Nate his gun back.

Bobby says he looked at Max’s social media accounts and phone records. There’s nothing unusual and nothing to explain Max and Chelsea leaving their phones behind, or Max renting a car to steal Barkley. Colter remembers rental companies have GPS trackers and Bobby promises to investigate it.

Colter finds the word “Lawson” on a pad, and Nate says Lawson was a shady private contractor with access to archaeological statues worth a fortune. Nate told Max not to get involved, but he’s pretty sure Max was involved. Max even got called into the Department of Criminal Investigations (DCI) last year, and Nate reveals Max seemed nervous and wouldn’t talk about it.

Nate doesn’t know where Max would have stashed the statues. Colter notices there isn’t a shovel in the shed and checks the yard. There aren’t any fresh holes. Nate believes Max might have needed Barkley to help find the statues, if he forgot where he buried them. Barkley can find anything.

Tracker Season 2 Episode 7 Recap

Bobby sends Colter the rental car’s location, and it’s fairly close to where Colter found Barkley. The car’s there, and Nate and Colter look around. Nate recognizes the location as where Max fishes and Colter spots a thorn that matches one he pulled from Barkley’s paw.

Colter heads down by the river and finds fresh shoe prints and paw prints. Suddenly, they hear barking and race toward the dog. Barkley’s tied to a tree, barking, and Max is digging. Max pulls a gun and tells Nate that Lawson has his wife.

Colter introduces himself and says he’s there to help. Max confesses he helped Lawson steal the statues back in Africa. Lawson got arrested and blamed Max. Last night, Lawson came to his house and took his wife, demanding the statues. Max doesn’t remember where they are and has been desperately looking for the statues. Max buried the statues to forget them because he never should have been involved with Lawson.

Max says Lawson will torture Chelsea if he doesn’t find the statues.

Reenie (Fiona Rene) meets with a DCI captain to learn more about Max. She knows Max served military ops in West Africa for a private contractor. Reenie explains that Max, Chelsea, and Barkley have gone missing, and the captain hands over a folder. David Lawson was a civilian who stole culturally sensitive rare artifacts and killed two guards. There’s no proof linking Max to the crime, and Lawson bribed his way out of prison two weeks ago. He’s wanted in the US for smuggling, armed robbery, and murder charges. The DCI isn’t investigating, but they alerted the State Department.

Reenie warns Colter about Lawson being a killer with “a history of extreme violence.”

Max’s digging produces results. He finds the statues, but Colter explains that’s not the end. Lawson won’t leave witnesses alive, and Colter wants to back him up with Nate’s help. Colter reminds Max this is all personal and that Lawson wants revenge. “You need to think about what happens next,” warns Colter.

Lawson slings a tied-up and gagged Chelsea over his shoulder and claims she’ll be fine if her husband returns what he stole.

Lawson calls Max, and Colter suggests Max tell him he has the statues. Lawson reveals Chelsea’s location and that he wants to meet in one hour. Colter says Max needs to meet him, and that he’s got a plan. They need to gear up at his truck, and Nate confirms he’s an expert shot.

Tracker Season 2 Episode 7 Recap

Night’s fallen when they get to the building, and Colter has Max go over the plan before he exits the car. Nate will set up in a location where he can take down Lawson while Colter retrieves Chelsea and gets her to safety.

Colter takes Barkley by the leash and silently gets into position as Lawson arrives. Max pulls up in front of him, and Colter has Barkley stay while Max walks toward Lawson carrying the bag of statues. Max asks for proof Chelsea’s okay before he hands it over, and as they argue about who’s handing what over first, Colter looks in the back of Lawson’s truck.

Lawson shoots Max in the arm, and Nate fires one shot and kills Lawson as Lawson’s about to shoot Max again. Unfortunately, Chelsea wasn’t in the truck and they don’t know where she is. However, Chelsea’s scarf is in the truck and Colter has Barkley track the scent. Barkley runs into the building, nose to the ground and occasionally barking to ensure Colter follows.

Barkley stops in front of a door and Colter forces it open. Inside is a container where Lawson placed Chelsea. Colter assures her he’s there to help and that Max is fine.

Cops and an ambulance arrive at the scene, and Chelsea’s fine. She hugs her hubby and Nate, and they all thank Colter. Chelsea and Max also pet Barkley before Colter and the dog he was hired to retrieve leave the scene.

Morning dawns and Colter delivers a very tail-waggly Barkley home to Aiden and his mom. Aiden hands over his birthday money and Colter says, “What if we call it a favor amongst friends? Maybe save some of that money, buy your mom something nice?” suggests Colter. Aiden smiles and agrees.

They thank him and Colter’s happy to get Barkley back where he’s loved. He hands over a new tag with just the phone number and not the address to keep them safer. Aiden wonders if Barkley got his name from barking a lot, and Colter suggests that maybe he’s named after Charles Barkley. Aiden doesn’t recognize the name at all, and Colter thinks that’s tragic.

Episode seven ends with Colter putting in a surprise appearance at Reenie’s new office after saying he didn’t have time this trip. He hugs Reenie and Velma, and is happy they bought him a dashcam. Reenie’s shocked he didn’t already own one since he’s Mr. Prepared.

‘Outlander’ Season 7 Episode 9 Recap: “Unfinished Business”

I could do a super brief recap of the first half of Outlander season seven, but it’s much more fun to hear it straight from the cast. Starz’s one-minute video recap hits the main plot points from the first eight episodes of season seven.

Let’s assume you’re all caught up and/or have done your own refresher course and hop straight into our recap of season seven episode nine, “Unfinished Business.” There are spoilers ahead – you’ve been warned.

Jamie (Sam Heughan) pens a note to Bree (Sophie Skelton), which also serves as an update to the audience. They’ve brought Simon home, and he’s been given a proper family burial. Jamie confesses he wasn’t prepared for how he’d feel back on Scottish soil, and he feels a storm of his own making is brewing.

Young Ian (John Bell) is pulled in for a huge hug by his mom, Jenny (Kristin Atherton), when they make it to Lallybroch. Jamie’s next, and then Claire (Caitriona Balfe). Ian’s brothers run out to greet him, and Ian’s shocked that Jamie and Michael are in Scotland. He assumed they’d be in France. Michael reveals his wife died just two weeks ago, and it’s only then that Young Ian realizes his dad hasn’t come out to greet him.

Ian (Steven Cree) remained inside because he’s ill. However, he’s overjoyed at seeing his namesake.

Claire believes Ian has consumption, and Ian jokes he could be dead any day … or last a year. When Jamie and Claire are alone, Claire admits she’s seen this illness many times. And Jamie admits returning to Lallybroch is equivalent to Claire stepping through the stones. “As if your world is still there, but it’s not the world you had,” says Jamie.

Lallybroch is his home, yet it doesn’t feel right. Claire reminds him the first time they exchanged I love yous was in this room. She promises to make Ian as comfortable as possible; they’ll surround him with love.

The whole family gathers for dinner, and the kids ask Young Ian about the Indians. They’re sent away before he has to answer. Poor Ian has a horrible coughing fit while Young Ian’s brothers discuss the family’s business acquisitions in France.

Ian dismisses everyone except Young Ian and wants to know everything about his Mohawk wife, his dog, and what his life is like now. Ian’s the first to learn that Young Ian has a son by Emily, and Ian suggests he tell his mom. She’d be happy to know he has a child. The circumstances don’t matter. Young Ian admits he thinks about him all the time, but it’s best that his boy stays with the man he thinks is his father. Ian’s touched when Young Ian says he named him Ian James, for when he walks in their world rather than the Mohawk’s.

Young Ian tells his dad about Rachel and that he left Rollo with her. He loves her but hasn’t actually said the words in English. (He did in Mohawk!) Ian confesses that he’d feel much better if he knew his son was settled. He makes his son promise that he’ll go to Rachel and tell her how he feels. Young Ian says he can’t leave now while his dad’s in poor health.

Jamie sort of asks for permission to go see Laoghaire, clarifying that he doesn’t want to see her. He needs to see her. He doesn’t enjoy having unfinished business and Claire teases that if he doesn’t find out who she’s sleeping with, she’ll kill him. Jamie reacts to the threat with a smile.

Jamie didn’t expect a warm greeting from Laoghaire (Nell Hudson), and he doesn’t get one. She only cares what he has to say regarding her daughter, Marsali. But when Jamie only tells her what she already knows, Jamie confesses that he’s actually come to say he’s sorry. He shouldn’t have married her because his heart was cold, and Laoghaire admits she knew that when she said yes.

Laoghaire is still angry that Jamie lured her into a sinful match. She assumes he’s there to tell her he’s no longer paying for the upkeep on the place, and she refuses to let him off the hook. Jamie admits he never understood her, and Laoghaire reminds him he never tried. He never even bothered really looking at her, except once when she was 16.

They clear the air, something they should have done ages ago. And as much as it hurts, Jamie admits he was in love with Claire when he married her. Years of pent-up anger without a target to take it out on surface, and she explodes on Jamie. Her lover, Joey Boswell Murray (Sandy Jack), rushes to her side and Jamie’s forced to fight him off too. Laoghaire protects her man, and Jamie knows when to fight and when to flee.

Back at Lallybroch, he tells Claire what happened and that Laoghaire refused to listen. Claire reveals she also wants to mend something, too. “I want to tell your family the truth about me,” says Claire. Jamie’s shocked and Claire reminds him that he and his men lived thanks to what she knew about Culloden. She knows something about France that could save Michael’s life, and she needs to tell him. Jamie’s worried they won’t believe her, but Claire believes she needs to try.

Jamie wonders if she’s ever doubted that he needs her. Claire quickly replies no. She knows he’s needed her urgently since they met.

The following day, Claire tells the family that a revolution will rip France apart in 10 years. Aristocrats and the wealthy will flee, and the king and queen will be beheaded during a period that will be known as The Terror. She warns Michael he has a few years but needs to leave France before 1788. Jenny asks how she knows this and Claire replies, “I know this because I’m not from this time. I was born in 1918.”

Jamie and Young Ian confirm that Claire knows the future and that everyone should listen to her. A knock on the door interrupts the time-travel discussion, and Jamie’s surprised to see a smiling Joan (Layla Burns) on his doorstep. He asks her in, but she wants to speak in private. They go for a walk, and Joan reveals she wants to become a nun but can’t leave her mom living in sin with Joey. Also, Laoghaire won’t release her dowry. Laoghaire wants to marry but can’t because Jamie stipulated in their arrangement that he would provide financial assistance until she remarried. And if she married, then she’d lose Balriggan. Laoghaire would be devastated to lose it, but she also doesn’t want to break up with Joey. Joan believes Jamie can figure out a way to fix everything.

Jenny always felt Claire was keeping a secret and now that she knows Claire’s from the future, she asks her sister-in-law to cure Ian. Claire confesses she can’t; the medicines don’t exist yet. But if they did, it would already be too late. Claire assures Jenny she would have already done something if she could. Jenny admits she didn’t think Claire would have because she might still hold a grudge. Jenny encouraged Jamie to marry Laoghaire and sent for Laoghaire when Claire returned. She was just protecting her brother since Claire had already broken his heart once. Claire says she’d give her soul to save Ian, but she’s powerless. There’s nothing she can do to heal him.

Jamie’s hunting in the woods when he hears an anguished scream. It’s Jenny, and she’s scared to death about Ian dying. Jamie insists Jenny is stronger than he’s ever been and that she’s always taken care of everyone. There wouldn’t be a home without her. She is the foundation on which Lallybroch is built. When Ian passes, he believes she’ll carry on for her children and grandchildren.

Arm and arm, they return to Lallybroch.

Everyone gathers for an important meeting between Jamie and Laoghaire. Jamie has always cared about Joan and so he had Ned Gowan write an amendment to their existing agreement. Laoghaire reluctantly listens to Jamie as he explains the amendment states that after she marries Joey Murray (Joey agrees it’s what he wants), Jamie will turn Balriggan over to her. Once she’s married, Jamie will no longer pay alimony and Laoghaire will release Joan’s dowry. Jamie even hands over some gold for Joan’s upkeep at the convent.

Laoghaire agrees to the terms. Joan thanks Jamie before they leave and agrees to pray for him once she’s a nun.

Later, Claire ties a bow around a bundle of letters for Bree and Roger. The plan is to take them to the bank in Edinburgh. Jenny joins the couple and hands Claire a letter from the colonies. It’s from Lord John in Philadelphia and apparently he’s been trying to track Claire down. William’s fine, but Lord John’s nephew, Henry, has been shot twice in the abdomen and isn’t doing well. Doctors can’t remove the musket balls, and without Claire’s help, he’ll die. Lord John hopes Claire will come to Philadelphia, and Claire knows Henry will die if she doesn’t go.

Claire doesn’t think they can leave now; they need to be there for Ian. However, Jamie assures her he’ll stay and she can go. Jenny agrees, certain that Claire needs to do what she can to save Henry. If she can’t save Ian, then she should save this man.

Jenny finds Young Ian writing a letter to Rachel. She wonders why he’s writing when he’ll see her soon, and Young Ian insists his duty as a son is at Lallybroch. He needs to let Rachel go now; it’s unfair to ask her to wait.

Jenny takes the letter from her son and rips it in half. She takes him to the family cemetery, and they stand before Iseabail’s headstone. She and Ian had the headstone placed with the family, recognizing the death of Young Ian’s beloved daughter. Jenny thought Young Ian would want a place to visit his daughter and remember her time on earth. They place rocks on the headstone, and Jenny tells her son to go to Rachel. “You’ll always be here with us, too,” says a tearful Jenny.

Young Ian insists he needs to be with his dad. Jenny’s equally insistent that Ian wants his son to live his life.

Claire and Young Ian’s belongings are packed in a cart, and Jenny offers one last apology. Claire accepts it, and Jenny says she trusts in Claire’s love for their family. Jamie packed apples for Claire’s voyage, and Claire will be counting the days until she can return.

Ian slowly walks down the front steps and hugs his son. Both know this will be the last time they’re together, and they stare into each other’s eyes. The love they share is obvious.

Ian smiles and waves as Young Ian and Claire ride away.

Outlander Season 2 Episode 9 Recap
Richard Rankin and Dairmaid Murtagh in ‘Outlander’ season 2 episode 9 (Photo Credit: Starz)

Roger and Buck Follow Jemmy Through the Stones

Roger (Richard Rankin) believes he’s dead, but if he were, he wouldn’t have such a massive headache. He and Buck (Diarmaid Murtagh) followed Rob and Jemmy through the stones, and Buck’s also feeling as if he’s on the verge of death as he comes to. Roger admits to himself he’s not sure whether he’ll exist if Buck dies, so hopefully they’ll survive this trip.

Rob needs to take Jemmy to America, but Roger realizes Jemmy knows how to return to Lallybroch from the stones. If he escaped Rob, he’d run back there. Roger suggests they separate and Buck heads to Inverness while Roger takes off for Lallybroch.

Roger blames himself for Jemmy going missing, acknowledging that he should have listened to Buck’s opinion of Rob. He makes it to Lallybroch and hopes that Jemmy beat him there. Roger’s greeted at the door by Jamie’s dad, Brian Fraser (Andrew Whipp), which means he’s arrived at the wrong time. Is Jemmy in the wrong year, too?

Roger explains his son, Jeremiah MacKenzie, has been taken by a man named Rob Cameron. Brian asks Roger in, and Roger tries to figure out the year. It has to be before Culloden in 1746. Jenny walks in, and Roger’s speechless, which Brian interprets as interest in his pretty daughter. Brian claims his daughter’s interested in Ian Murray, but Jenny denies that.

Brian invites Roger to stay the night, and in the morning, they’ll ask his tenants about Rob. Roger pieces together the clues and if Jamie’s at school in France, it must be 1739 or 40. He’s sure this means Rob and Jemmy are in the wrong time, too, but doesn’t know why. Roger swears to himself he won’t return to Bree without Jemmy.

Brian and Roger speak with John Murray who confirms people have seen a strangely dressed man wandering the moors. However, there wasn’t any mention of a young boy traveling with the man. Jenny rides up with news that William MacKenzie (Buck) has taken ill on his way to Lallybroch.

Roger helps Buck to the healer’s door and is stunned when Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) responds to his knock.

‘The Day of the Jackal’ Earns a Season 2 Renewal

Eddie Redmayne in The Day of the Jackal

Peacock and Sky have given the thriller The Day of the Jackal an early season two renewal. Starring Eddie Redmayne as the titular character, the series hit the top spot on Peacock’s Top 10 TV Shows list over its first weekend. The 10-episode first season premiered on November 14, 2024 and will wrap up on December 19th.

In addition to Eddie Redmayne, season one stars Lashana Lynch, Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, and Chukwudi Iwuji. Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, and Sule Rimi also stars.

“An unrivaled and highly elusive lone assassin, the Jackal (Redmayne), makes his living carrying out hits for the highest fee,” reads Peacock’s synopsis. “But following his latest kill, he meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer (Lynch) who starts to track down the Jackal in a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe, leaving destruction in its wake.”

Discussing the series in a recent press conference, Redmayne described the appeal of the series. “The truth is that the way I sort of choose work, I suppose, I wish there was some sort of strategy involved, but it’s always instinctive. And I was sent the first three scripts for The Day of the Jackal. They arrived in my inbox and I had grown up watching the movie, the Edward Fox movie, and it had been one of my dad’s favorite movies. Despite watching it at an inappropriately young age, there was something about it I found compelling,” said Redmayne.

“There was something, I describe it as kind of analog. It was about the craft of espionage or being an assassin. There was something old-school about it. It was about the creation of plans and then the sort of catharsis when it all plays out, in theory, according to plan. So, I loved the movie. And when the scripts arrived, I had quite a massive sense of — or a bit of trepidation as I don’t want to butcher the thing that you love.”

Redmayne continued: “But what I read, because it was set now, instantly felt fresh and new. But it retained all of those analog qualities that I had loved from the original. And I just, honestly, found it so propulsive. It’s the sort of television that I love to watch, so it keeps me on the edge of my seat. It also felt different to any other characters that I had played. So, a combination of reasons, but principally because I’d read the three and wanted to know what happened in the fourth that led me to join.”

Based on the novel by Frederick Forsyth, the series is executive produced by Eddie Redmayne, Gareth Neame, Nigel Marchant, Sam Hoyle, Sue Naegle, Ronan Bennett, and Brian Kirk. Ronan Bennett wrote the first season and Brian Kirk, Anthony Philipson, Paul Wilmshurst, and Anu Menon directed.
