That team will have endured and survived the ultimate test of character and fortitude — walking away with the grand prize, along with the scars and pride that they proved themselves capable to “Get Out Alive with Bear Grylls.”

‘Pacific Rim’ – The Mech Warriors Featurette

Another day, another new video from Pacific Rim…not that we mind as this Guillermo del Toro robots versus monsters film looks like it could be fun. This latest-but-nowhere-close-to-being-the-last-video for the sci-fi action thriller is all about the Jaegers (German for ‘hunter’).

The Mech Warriors featurette shows off the 250-foot robots while Guillermo del Toro, who says he was influenced by anime, talks about how he made the robots bigger and badder than what we’ve seen on screen before.

The Plot:

When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju.

On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes — a washed-up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) — who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

HBO is bringing back Vice for a second season as just announced today by HBO Programming President Michael Lombardo. The news magazine is executive produced by Bill Maher, Shane Smith and Eddy Moretti, with BJ Levin co-executive producing.

Shane Smith hosts the series, which kicked off season one on April 5, 2013. Episodes air on Fridays at 11:00pm, immediately after Real Time with Bill Maher.

Announcing the renewal, Lombardo said, “Vice‘s fearless, irreverent style of news coverage has produced a uniquely provocative show. We look forward to more of their groundbreaking reporting in season two.”

“I honestly don’t think there is another network in the world that would have given us the opportunity and support that HBO did over the last year,” added Shane Smith. “We learned a lot over the course of shooting season one and are insanely excited over our story selection for season two. Now that our various parasites, hernias, and virulent rashes have been treated, we are ready in mind and in body to go out there and get the gold.”

And Maher joked, “Damn them, I don’t hear about my own show anymore from people on the street. They stop me and say, ‘I love that Vice show!’”

‘The To-Do List Green Band Trailer

Although The To-Do List is about losing your virginity, this green band trailer is pretty much safe for work. The To-Do List is loosely based on first-time writer/director Maggie Carey’s real experiences and stars Aubrey Plaza as the college-bound girl who decides it’s time to get sexually educated. The cast also includes Johnny Simmons, Bill Hader, Alia Shawkat, Sarah Steele, Rachel Bilson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Donald Glover, Scott Porter, Andy Samberg, Connie Britton, and Clark Gregg.

CBS Films is opening The To-Do List in theaters on July 26, 2013.

The Plot: Set in 1993, valedictorian Brandy Klark wants to shed her uptight image before college, so she assembles a to-do list of all the “activities” she missed out on in high school. Quickly realizing that she’s way out of her depth, Brandy solicits her best friends, older sister and burnt-out boss for their help and advice. If the group is going to complete the list by September, they’ll need plenty of imagination and very open minds.

And here’s an interview with Aubrey Plaza at this year’s CinemaCon in Vegas:

Tina Majorino Joins ‘Veronica Mars’

Tina Majorino

It’s been assumed for a while that Tina Majorino would be reprising her role as Veronica’s friend, Cindy ‘Mac’ Mackenzie, in the movie version of Veronica Mars. And, thankfully, we all assumed correctly, as Rob Thomas just confirmed Majorino’s back in the Veronica Mars fold.

With filming just a couple of days away, the cast now stands at 11.

Thomas first came into contact with Tina back in 1996 when she sent him a letter asking about his novel for a book report she was doing. And when it came time to cast his TV series, Tina immediately sprang to mind to play Mac. Thomas sent out an email to his Kickstarter backers (of which I’m one) explaining his history with Tina and welcoming her to the cast:

“When we began shooting Veronica Mars, I asked our casting director to track down Tina. I wanted to find out what she was up to. I learned she had just finished an indie with good buzz that was going to Sundance. The director of that indie with good buzz was a gentleman named Jared Hess, who had been a camera operator on a short film I’d directed. During the shoot, Jared had shown me some footage — five or six minutes – of a curly-haired boy dragging a GI Joe behind a school bus. He said he was hoping to make a feature film out of it. It sounded like lunacy to me — how was this going to stretch to 90 minutes?

The film turned out to be Napoleon Dynamite. I’ve never trusted my sensibilities since.

I really wanted Tina in Veronica Mars. To say I wrote Mac with Tina in mind would be an understatement. I wrote Mac for Tina, and Tina only. Veronica needed a female friend, and a Q to her Bond. Tina felt like just the sort of girl that Veronica would like and respect. I couldn’t be more pleased that she’ll be with us for the movie.”
