Duck Dynasty Returns for Season 3

You’ll be able to keep quacking up with the Duck Dynasty gang as A&E’s premiering season three on February 27, 2013. The series has proved to be a hit for the cable network, drawing in more eyeballs than any other series on A&E. In fact, the 2-hour season two finale had an incredible 6.5 million viewers tune in when it aired on December 5, 2012.

And according to A&E, Duck Dynasty had the honor of being the “top trending TV show” on Facebook last year.

Details on Season 3 of Duck Dynasty:

In the third season premiere episode, the Robertson men prepare for the beginning of duck season. Phil has two rituals that don’t go over well; a date night with Ms. Kay and abstaining from baths. Meanwhile, the guys carry out their tradition of camping out on the land but the group is quickly divided into those who’ll rough it and those who want comfort.

The Robertsons have been busy being America’s favorite big, bearded, camo-clad family. Despite their modest lifestyle and homes in the backwoods, this close-knit family has made a fortune on duck calls by turning a backyard business into a multi-million dollar sporting empire. But for Willie Robertson, the company’s CEO, running a family operation is tough when all your employees live one distraction at a time and find any excuse to leave the warehouse. They may be living the rags-to-riches American dream, but they’re just as busy staying true to their rugged outdoorsman lifestyle and southern roots. Of course, in this household, even the most ordinary family affair is met with a special Robertson twist of downhome practicality and witty sense of humor. Day to day life in the bayou may be mundane for some, but for the Robertsons, every day brings a new adventure.

Toni Collette and PJ Hogan Reunite for ‘Mental’

Mental Poster Starring Toni Collette

Writer/director PJ Hogan got back together with his Muriel’s Wedding star Toni Collette 17 years after that film opened to critical acclaim for Mental, a comedy co-starring Liev Schreiber and Anthony LaPaglia. The cast also includes Rebecca Gibney, Kerry Fox, Caroline Goodall, Deborah Mailman, and Sam Clark.

Following Mental‘s debut at the Palm Springs Film Festival, Dada Films announced it’s picked it up for release theatrically and on VOD. Dada Films is planning a March 29, 2013 release.

Says producers Janet and Jerry Zucker: “Mental is PJ Hogan’s best film. A wonderful blend of heart, humor and insanity.”

The Official Plot:

Told in colorful, comedic and musical interludes – with all the pop sensibilities you have come to expect from a PJ Hogan film, Mental tells the quirky, comedic and often inspiring story of the Moochmore family. The Moochmore girls are certain they suffer from some kind of undiagnosed neurotic mental issue – because after all, if they’re not crazy then they’re just unpopular. Unable to cope with her peculiar daughters and Barry (LaPaglia), her unsupportive, philandering politician husband, Shirley (Gibney) lives in the fantastical world of the Family Von Trapp and the songs of The Sound of Music.

When her delusions become too much to bear, Barry commits Shirley to a mental hospital and finds himself alone with five teenage girls he barely knows.

Desperate, he impulsively picks up an eccentric hitchhiker named Shaz (Collette), who becomes the girls’ nanny and transforms their lives with her unconventional beliefs. Shaz is charismatic, hot-tempered, inspiring, and completely nuts. However, she proves to be exactly what the Moochmore family needs. If not for a shark hunter (Schreiber) who throws a twist in to their plans, there may just be a happy ending.

Bucky Covington Blazes a Path Toward Fire Safety

Spectacular entrances are traditional at the CMA Awards along the Macy’s Walk of Stars, but it’s safe to say no one will soon top the 2012 arrival of Bucky Covington, who showed up aboard a vintage Nashville Fire Department truck as red flashers whirled.

Aside from fulfilling every kid’s fantasy, Covington chose this vehicle to inspire support for firefighters who lost their lives or suffered debilitating injuries while on the job.

This story begins about a year ago, when the young singer got involved with Help the Good Guys, which supports the families of firefighters and police officers killed or injured in the line of duty. “The first guy I met through them was Brad Dean, a carpenter who volunteered with the fire department in Birmingham, Ala.,” he recalled. “Fifty percent of his body from the waist down had been burned in a fire, which made it impossible for him to work.”

Covington gets emotional when he talks about these people — these “heroes,” as he calls them. So it was only natural that he would connect with Kidde, the world’s largest manufacturer of residential fire safety products. His reasoning, that effective alarm systems could help prevent further death and injuries, dovetailed with Kidde’s philosophy.

“We want to raise awareness that not only do families need to replace the batteries in the smoke alarms they have, but that there are also technologies out there that make it possible for families to not worry about it,” said Heather Caldwell, Communications Manager, Kidde. “We launched a new line of sealed lithium battery smoke alarms on Nov. 1 — conveniently, CMA Awards day — whose batteries last for a full 10 years.”

With Covington signed on as spokesperson in conjunction with nonprofit organizations the National Firefighters Foundation and Help the Good Guys, Kidde launched the “Be a Hero/Save a Hero” campaign. Through television spots and PSAs produced by ABC, aired in select markets during CMA Awards week in November, and continuing on select ABC stations, CMT, Facebook and Twitter through December, viewers were encouraged to visit AlarmPledge.com and promise to install, regularly test and eventually replace smoke alarms at home. For every pledge ”shared” and ”liked,” Kidde donated up to $10,000 to each partner nonprofit.

“This is a truly collaborative campaign, with CMA and ABC putting this together,” said Debra O’Connell, Senior VP, Advertising Sales, ABC National TV Sales. “We certainly feel that the presence and excitement around the Macy’s Walk of Stars is the best way to kick off this program.”

“It takes money to run every charity out there,” Covington said. “But first you’ve got to get the awareness out there. I’m a Country Music singer, so I can bring that awareness and that will help bring immediate financial relief for firefighters and their families. That’s a lot better than strapping on a guitar, singing 12 songs, saying’ Thank you! Good night!’ and then you’re on the bus to the next town.”

Spotlight On: OneRepublic’s “If I Lose Myself” Video

In a behind the scenes video that debuted on Billboard, Ryan Tedder says the video for “If I Lose Myself” was inspired by 12 Monkeys and one of the scenes from The Matrix – “Follow the White Rabbit.” The song itself is different from OneRepublic’s norm, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. No one wants to get stuck in a box, and OneRepublic seems to be ready to go different directions both musically and with their videos.

As for the song, listening to the lyrics and watching the video you’d never know it was inspired by Tedder’s free of flying.

“If I Lose Myself” will be on the group’s third album, Native.

Showtime Renews Three Series for 2014

Shameless Season 3 PosterShowtime’s really happy with the success of their original series, and as the audience for each continues to grow, the network’s determined to keep production going on three of their critically acclaimed shows. Showtime’s renewed Shameless, House of Lies, and Californication, each for another season to air in 2014.

According to the network’s numbers, all three of these shows are performing better than previous years. Shameless is currently airing its third season and has increased its audience 22% over season two. House of Lies season two is up 10% from season one and Californication, the real veteran of the bunch, is averaging 3.1 million viewers in its sixth season. That’s an increase of 21% over season five.

Announcing the renewals, David Nevins, President of Entertainment, Showtime Networks Inc, stated, “Californication, House of Lies, and Shameless possess highly distinctive comedic voices, and given that all three continue to grow their audience season after season – the pick-up decision was easy. I am incredibly excited to see what each of these series has in store for their next seasons.”

Filming on the new seasons of the three shows will take place in Los Angeles later in 2013.

Details on Shameless:

Season three picked up several months after last season ended, with the Gallaghers each seeking their own unique version of the “American Dream.” Fiona (Emmy Rossum) realizes that it’s going to take more than earning her GED to make ends meet, and that a long term relationship with Jimmy (Justin Chatwin) isn’t as fulfilling as she expected. Brothers Lip (Jeremy Allen White) and Ian (Cameron Monaghan) continue their ingenious scamming ways, which threatens Ian’s shot at West Point, while Sheila (Joan Cusack) and Jody (Zach McGowan) do their best to raise baby Hymie. Meanwhile, Frank (Macy) reappears south of the border with no idea as to how he got there. The series also stars Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Laura Slade Wiggins, Noel Fisher and Emma Greenwell.

Details on House of Lies:

House of Lies (Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT), which stars Don Cheadle in his Golden Globe® Award-winning and Emmy nominated performance as Marty Kaan, is a timely comedy that dives head-first into the shark tank known as corporate America. Marty is the big-money earner at Galweather Stearn, who commands a hot, young team known as The Pod: Jeannie (Kristen Bell), Clyde (Ben Schwartz) and Doug (Josh Lawson). Marty and The Pod’s work life revolves around first-class travel, top-shelf liquor and anything they can charge the client on a black Am Ex. Marty is the ultimate power player and under his direction, this ruthless, pull-no-punches team is here to beat the corporate suckers at their own game – and they’re loving every minute of it. This season, The Pod – especially Marty and Jeannie – must deal with the fall-out from the big merger showdown. On the home front, Marty is thrown when Roscoe (Donis Leonard Jr.) decides to move in with his unbalanced mother, Monica (Dawn Olivieri).

Details on Californication:

Californication (Sundays at 10:30 p.m. ET/PT) stars David Duchovny in his Golden Globe Award-winning role as hedonistic novelist Hank Moody, who struggles to be a good father to his college-aged daughter Becca (Madeleine Martin), while still carrying a torch for her mother, and his ex-girlfriend, Karen (Natascha McElhone). For the sixth season, noted actress Maggie Grace has signed on for nine episodes as the infamous rock groupie Faith, who develops an unconventional relationship with Hank. She is joined in two episodes by her former Lost co-star Jorge Garcia as an old contact from Faith’s past. International comedy star Tim Minchin takes on the role of Atticus Fetch, a mad-as-a-hatter rock star who will write the music for the Broadway production of Hank’s hit novel. Fetch enlists the ever-cynical Hank to collaborate on the project, which he calls “…a rock opera about love conquering all.” Notorious rocker Marilyn Manson will also make a guest appearance.
