Jeremy Scahill and David Riker wrote the script which follows Scahill as he delves into the “truth behind America’s covert wars.”
“Our entire team was blown away by Dirty Wars, Richard Rowley’s tough-minded, gripping film that plays out like a detective story. Jeremy Scahill’s investigation into the war on terror being waged around the world is a vital, disturbing and incredibly humane story that will have people on both sides of the political spectrum talking. We look forward to working with Richard, Jeremy, David Riker, Brenda Coughlin, Anthony Arnove and the entire team behind the film in bringing this film to the largest public audience, as well as sparking a discussion on the topic,” stated Jonathan Sehring, President of Sundance Selects/IFC Films, announcing the acquisition.
“We’re thrilled to be joining the Sundance Selects family,” said director Richard Rowley.
Scahill added, “We made this film to uncover the hidden truth about wars being fought in our name that we as Americans know next to nothing about, and we can’t think of a better partner to do this with than Sundance Selects.”
Anchor Bay made one of the first picks up of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival, choosing to make a deal for The Rambler for distribution in the U.K., Australia, and North America. The film stars Dermot Mulroney, Lindsay Pulsipher (True Blood), and Natasha Lyonne, and was written and directed by Calvin Lee Reeder (actor in V|H|S, director of The Oregonian).
The feature is based on Reeder’s 2008 short film.
Anchor Bay Entertainment’s Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President Acquisitions and Co-Productions, confirmed the acquisition, saying, “Anchor Bay is the perfect partner for Calvin’s film The Rambler. It has all the elements that our fans truly love and we look forward to working with Calvin.”
“I’ve always loved Anchor Bay Films. Repo Man, Holy Mountain and El Topo make my top 10 all timers for sure. I am so excited to be working with the company that revived those legendary midnight movies, it’s a real honor,” said Reeder.
The Plot: After being released from prison, a man known as The Rambler (Mulroney) stumbles upon a strange mystery as he attempts a dangerous journey through treacherous back roads and small towns en route to reconnecting with his long lost brother.
In an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Lance Armstrong’s bike tells Jimmy it feels betrayed that it had a cheating butt on it and that it suspected something was fishy when Lance pedaled him really, really fast. And even though it’s an almost too easy target, Jimmy Fallon also shows off the new song he’s written in honor of Armstrong’s confession: “You’re A Crazy Bitch (But You Ain’t Fat).”
Update: Unfortunately, Fallon’s Lance Armstrong clips are no longer available online.
It doesn’t have a title yet but it does have a pilot order. TNT’s prepping an untitled bounty hunter drama set to star Geena Davis and inspired by the real story of Mackenzie Green. Zac Efron as Dean, Dennis Quaid as Henry and Kim Dickens as Irene in 'At Any Price' - Photo by Matt Dinerstein, Courtesy of Sony Pictures
Dennis Quaid stars as a dad who appears to be bent on buying up farmland at any price, even if it means approaching the families of deceased farmers at funerals. He also doesn’t want his son, played by Zac Efron, to leave the family farming business to pursue his dream of being a race car driver. And then there’s something about bad business deals and people beating each other up.
What’s At Any Price really about, anyway? Here’s the official plot:
In the competitive world of modern agriculture, ambitious HENRY WHIPPLE (Dennis Quaid) wants his rebellious son DEAN (Zac Efron) to help expand his family’s farming empire. However, Dean has his sights set on becoming a professional race car driver. When a high-stakes investigation into their business is exposed, father and son are pushed into an unexpected crisis that threatens the family’s entire livelihood.
Directed and co-written by Ramin Bahrani, the cast also includes Clancy Brown, Heather Graham, Kim Dickens, and Chelcie Ross. Sony Pictures Classics is planning a limited release of At Any Price beginning April 26, 2013.

Pussy Riot – A Punk Prayer focuses on Nadia, Masha, and Katia – three members of the “feminist art collective” Pussy Riot who made international news when they were arrested in Russia for performing a “punk prayer” inside a cathedral. The documentary, which just debuted at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival where it played to a sold-out crowd, had its television broadcast rights picked up by HBO Documentary.
Directors Mike Lerner and Maxim Pozdorovkin were given incredible access to Pussy Riot and were able to examine the real people the news reports always skim over when discussing their imprisonment. In a statement from HBO Documentary, the directors were quoted as saying they are “thrilled to be working with HBO on bringing this important story to the world.”
Lerner and Pozdorovkin also produced the film, with Martin Herring and Havana Marking, Maxyne Franklin, Nick Fraser, Kate Townsend, Nick Quested, and Christina Willoughby executive producing.
Tom Cruise is called upon to save the world, or at least help repair it, in the upcoming sci-fi action epic, Oblivion. Directed by TRON: Legacy’s Joseph Kosinski, Oblivion also stars Olga Kurylenko, Andrea Riseborough, Morgan Freeman, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Melissa Leo – and lots of CG and special effects.
The Plot:
On a spectacular future Earth that has evolved beyond recognition, one man’s confrontation with the past will lead him on a journey of redemption and discovery as he battles to save mankind.
Jack Harper (Cruise) is one of the last few drone repairmen stationed on Earth. Part of a massive operation to extract vital resources after decades of war with a terrifying threat known as the Scavs, Jacks mission is nearly complete.
Living in and patrolling the breathtaking skies from thousands of feet above, his soaring existence is brought crashing down when he rescues a beautiful stranger from a downed spacecraft. Her arrival triggers a chain of events that forces him to question everything he knows and puts the fate of humanity in his hands.
