Syfy’s rock ’em sock ’em robots reality series, Robot Combat League, will debut on February 26, 2013 at 10pm. According to the network, the new series “reinvents gladiatorial combat for the 21st century” and “will feature tournament-style battles between eight-feet tall, state-of-the-art humanoid robots controlled by human robo-jockeys.” Robotics expert Mark Setrakian designed and created the robots to be used on the series.

WWE’s Chris Jericho is hosting the show and will be providing robot/boxing/reality show fans with play-by-play commentary.

The Details:

“The idea of robots in battle has captured the imagination for generations. Now, through ground-breaking engineering, the fusion of a human’s fighting spirit with a powerful robotic machine built for destruction has become a reality. This extraordinary new series will feature twelve teams consisting of a fighter (a robo-jockey) and a robotics engineer (a robo-tech) from myriad backgrounds including a race car driver, an Olympic athlete, a National Guard helicopter pilot along with a mix of professional fighters and software engineers. Each team is paired with its own unique robot and will fight in a first-of-its kind competition using a high-tech exo-suit that translates their movements to their robot. Each fight consists of three rounds of intense action, with the winning team advancing in the competition.”

Beyonce Documentary Coming to HBO

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about Grammy-winner Beyoncé will be revealed during a feature-length documentary airing on February 16, 2013 on HBO. Okay, so the network’s not promising they’ll answer all your Beyoncé questions with this “intimate, revealing” documentary, but apparently it will allow her fans a behind-the-scenes look at her private life. HBO President of Programming Michael Lombardo announced the upcoming documentary which was directed by, executive produced, and stars Beyonce.

“Everybody knows Beyoncé’s music, but few know Beyoncé the person,” stated Lombardo. “Along with electrifying footage of Beyoncé onstage, this unique special looks beyond the glamour to reveal a vibrant, vulnerable, unforgettable woman.”

Adds the singer/actress, “HBO has a history of pushingevery boundary with class and authenticity. Some of my favorite shows are on HBO, so I am excited that my film will be part of its bold programming. This film was so personal to me, it had to have the right home.”

The Details:

The film is a multi-faceted portrait of the 16-time Grammy Award-winning singer, businesswoman, songwriter, actress, entrepreneur, wife and mother, showing off the extraordinary gifts that have made her a global phenomenon, and stripping away the veneer of stardom. It includes extensive first-person footage, some of it shot by Beyoncé on her laptop, in which she reflects on the realities of celebrity, the refuge she finds onstage and the transcendent joy of becoming a mother last year.

The film sheds light on her childhood in Houston, with home movies revealing the close bond she built with her family and charts the challenges Beyoncé felt when she decided to manage her career and build her own company, Parkwood Entertainment. It also captures the intense physical and emotional demands she goes through in the studio, preparing for live performances, running a business and her family life, including her return to the spotlight after the birth of her daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, in January 2012.
