‘Spartacus’ Adds Three New Cast Members

Anna Hutchison

Spartacus has expanded its cast…probably to make up for all the featured characters they killed off this year.

Starz announced the addition of Anna Hutchison (The Cabin in the Woods), Jenna Lind (Burning Man) and Gwendoline Taylor to the cast of the brutally violent, riveting drama, Spartacus. Season three is currently shooting in New Zealand.

Details on the New Spartacus Cast Members:

  • Jenna Lind will play Kore, a loyal slave to Marcus Crassus (played by Simon Merrells), the Roman tasked to bring an end to Spartacus and his rebellion. Her deep feelings for her master will be sorely tested by spiraling events.
  • Anna Hutchison will play Laeta, the privileged wife of a Roman dignitary who becomes entangled in the struggle against Spartacus. Her life and those of the ones she loves are forever changed by the conflict.
  • Gwendoline Taylor will play Sibyl, a beautiful young slave rescued from Roman cruelty. Now free, she will embark on a journey that will touch the lives of key leaders in the rebellion.

‘People Like Us’ and Sprinkles Cupcakes Celebrate Brothers and Sisters Day with Free Cupcakes

Honestly, I have two sisters but I had no idea there is such a thing as Brothers and Sisters day (sorry!). Apparently, there is and, apparently, it’s today.

In celebration of this holiday, DreamWorks Pictures’ People Like Us and Sprinkles Cupcakes are teaming up to offer customers at each of the Sprinkles Cupcakes locations a free cupcake. You have to come into a store between 12pm and 2pm and say, “People like us,” in order to get your special cupcake. Then, after you’ve gobbled it up, you can vote online for the winning cupcake flavor that will become the official “People Like Us” flavor.

The People Like Us Plot:

People Like Us is a drama/comedy about family, inspired by true events, starring Chris Pine (Star Trek) as Sam, a twenty-something, fast-talking salesman, whose latest deal collapses on the day he learns that his father has suddenly died. Against his wishes, Sam is called home, where he must put his father’s estate in order and reconnect with his estranged family.

In the course of fulfilling his father’s last wishes, Sam uncovers a startling secret that turns his entire world upside down: He has a 30-year-old sister Frankie whom he never knew about (Elizabeth Banks). As their relationship develops, Sam is forced to rethink everything he thought he knew about this family—and re-examine his own life choices in the process.

Starring Chris Pine, Elizabeth Banks, Olivia Wilde and Michelle Pfeiffer, People Like Us opens in theaters June 29th.

Filming Begins on Wrong Turn 5

Wrong Turn
Having not seen Wrong Turn 2, 3, or 4, I wasn’t actually aware we’re up to a Wrong Turn 5 – but we are, and it’s currently in production.

Writer/director Declan O’Brien (Wrong Turn 4, Sharktopus) is back in charge of this new Wrong Turn film which stars Doug Bradley (Pinhead in the Hellraiser movies). Wrong Turn 5 is currently shooting in Sophia, Bulgaria.

The Plot:

In the next chilling chapter of Wrong Turn, a small West Virginia town is hosting the legendary Mountain Man Festival on Halloween, where throngs of costumed partygoers gather for a wild night of music and mischief. But an inbred family of hillbilly cannibals kill all the fun when they trick and treat themselves to a group of visiting college students who are dying for a good time.

For Ellen Finds a Home with Tribeca Film

Tribeca Film has picked up the North American distribution rights to the dramatic movie, For Ellen, directed by So Yong Kim. The independent drama premiered at Sundance and stars Paul Dano, Jon Heder and Jena Malone. Tribeca’s aiming for a fall theatrical release in select markets, starting on September 5th in New York.

“With a subtle, understated approach, esteemed director So Yong Kim has made a film that is both deeply moving and deeply resonant,” stated Geoff Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer of Tribeca Enterprises, in the official press announcement. “Fueled by a remarkable performance by Paul Dano and delicately directed by Kim, we couldn’t be more excited to share this very special story about a father trying to connect with his young daughter.”

“We look forward to working with Tribeca Film on the release and distribution of For Ellen,” said Kim. We are honored to trust our film with such a talented and passionate team.”

The Plot:

Aspiring rock star Joby Taylor (Paul Dano) has wanted nothing more than to “make it”, having flirted with fame but never crossed over into true success. In the midst of a low period in his life, he agrees to sign divorce papers with his estranged wife (Margarita Levieva) in order to see money from the sale of their home, only to discover that by signing the papers, he will forfeit all custody of his six-year-old daughter, Ellen (newcomer Shaylena Mandigo). With a good-natured lawyer (Jon Heder) unable to make headway in reversing the decision, and a girlfriend (Jena Malone) that represents an era of his life that he might be ready to graduate from, Joby negotiates a visit with his daughter to explore whether he is able to walk away from his child, and whether it might be too late for reconciliation.

For Ellen stems from Kim’s desire to understand her own father, and an imagined confrontation if he ever returned to her. Using the stark beauty and vast farmlands of an American winter as its backdrop, the film charts Joby’s emotional journey as he realizes what he has lost – and what, if anything, can still be saved.
