Dolphin Tale, the inspirational true story of a dolphin named Winter who lost her tail in a crab trap, hits theaters this Friday. The feel-good film is looking to snare family audiences as well as animal lovers as it brings to the big screen Winter’s story, with Winter herself in the lead role. In support of the film’s upcoming release, Warner Bros Pictures has provided this behind-the-scenes look at Winter as she patiently waits for her prosthetic tail to be attached.

Winter’s human co-stars include Ashley Judd as Lorraine Nelson, Harry Connick Jr as Dr. Clay Haskett, Morgan Freeman as Dr. Cameron McCarthy, Kris Kristofferson as Reed Haskett, Nathan Gamble as Sawyer Nelson, and Cozi Zuehlsdorff as Hazel Haskett. Austin Stowell stars as Kyle Connellan, Frances Sternhagen is Gloria Forrest, Austin Highsmith is Phoebe, and Betsy Landin is Kat.

The Plot: Dolphin Tale is inspired by the remarkable true story of a courageous dolphin named Winter and the compassionate people who banded together to save her life. The comedy/drama will open in theaters on September 23, 2011.

First Look: ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’ Trailer

Director John Madden (The Debt, Shakespeare in Love) assembles an incredible cast of older, veteran British actors – as well as Slumdog Millionaire‘s Dev Patel – for the comedy film The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Fox Searchlight isn’t releasing the movie until March 2012 (which is strange because it looks like one of those films Oscar voters could get behind) but you can check out the first trailer now:

The Plot: The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel follows a group of British retirees who decide to “outsource” their retirement to less expensive and seemingly exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure, they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though the new environment is less luxurious than imagined, they are forever transformed by their shared experiences, discovering that life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

‘The Thing’ Restricted Trailer

The The Thing restricted (not safe for work or kids) trailer has arrived showing off some of the gory violence (but no bad language for those watching at work). Set for an October 14, 2011 release, this Thing isn’t a remake of John Carpenter’s 1982 film but more like a prequel to the events that take place in that horror movie.

The Plot: Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up. When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

Spotlight On: The Canadian Tenors Perform ‘Hallelujah’

If you watched the 2011 Primetime Emmys, you probably got chills – I know I did – when the Canadian Tenors performed “Hallelujah” during the show’s “In Memoriam” segment honoring entertainment industry individuals who’ve passed away since the 2010 Emmys. The Canadian Tenors rendition of the song ranks right up there with Jeff Buckley’s and was one of the highlights of this year’s Emmys.

Jessie J Forced to Exit Katy Perry Tour

Jessie J Who You Are

Jessie J’s not going to be able to be a part of the final leg of Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour which she was supposed to join in mid-November. The singer fell during rehearsals for the Summertime Ball, rupturing a ligament in her foot (according to her official website) back in June. The injury’s taking longer than expected to heal and although she was able to make it through MTV’s Video Music Awards by sitting down to perform, she won’t be able to physically handle the demands of a tour until her foot his completely healed.

In the statement announcing her departure from Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour, it was confirmed Jessie J’s taking the time off on doctor’s orders. “The pop sensation must stay off the road internationally and undergo intensive constant physical therapy to recover fully from a serious recent injury that could worsen if she returns to the road,” says Universal Republic Records.

Jessie J’s expected to return to the U.S. to perform in 2012. Her latest single, “Domino,” debuted on iTunes on August 29th.

Glee‘s queen of mean, Jane Lynch, hosted the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 18, 2011 and while she was nominated for her supporting performance as Sue Sylvester, it was a Modern Family night when it came to the comedy categories.

The Modern Family group claimed 5 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series, Supporting Actress (Julie Bowen), and Supporting Actor (Ty Burrell – winning over his co-stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O’Neill, and Eric Stonestreet).

Modern Family was the clear comedy winner, but Emmy voters spread the wealth around in the dramatic categories. Game of Thrones, Justified, The Good Wife, Friday Night Lights, and Boardwalk Empire all felt a little Emmy love, while Mad Men was shut out in the acting and writing categories but still emerged with the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy. Mad Men‘s win moved it into a tie with Hill Street Blues, L.A Law, and The West Wing as the only shows who’ve earned four consecutive Emmys in that category.

Games of Thrones‘ Peter Dinklage is a Dog-Loving Emmy Winner

There’s a very happy – and probably surprised – dog sitter in New York by the name of Kitty.

Peter Dinklage accepted his first Emmy (for his first nomination) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for HBO’s Game of Thrones by thanking the network, saying they are “quite simply the greatest” place to work. He, of course, also acknowledged his fellow nominees and sent out love to his wife, Erica Schmidt. But the most surprising part of Dinklage’s Emmy speech had to be the shout-out to Kitty, his dog sitter.

Dinklage thanked Kitty for taking care of Kevin while he was out of town. And, truthfully, I can’t remember anyone ever taking the time to thank the person responsible for watching their furry family member while they’re accepting an award. As if Dinklage’s performance as Tyrion Lannister in the critically acclaimed series wasn’t enough to win him over fans, acknowledging his dog sitter likely won him the support of animal lovers who hadn’t yet jumped on the Dinklage bandwagon. And, I’m guessing Kevin got a few extra treats tonight…

Kyle Chandler Pulls Off an Emmy Upset

Kyle Chandler may not have been the odds-on favorite to score the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for his performance in Friday Night Lights, but he pulled off a much-deserved win. Chandler was so sure he wasn’t going to win that he didn’t prepare a speech – and it showed – but that’s okay. He was obviously moved by the win, and thanked his co-stars as well as the citizens of Austin, Texas, who welcomed the production into their homes and “brought the show to life.”

The Emmy nomination was his second for Friday Night Lights and his third overall (he was nominated in 2006 as a guest actor on Grey’s Anatomy).

Friday Night Lights has a passionate fan base but was constantly fighting against cancellation over its five-season run. The show debuted in October 2006 and finished its run in February 2011.

In another shocker, Friday Night Lights writer Jason Katims beat out Emmy favorite Mad Men‘s Matthew Weiner to earn the Outstanding Writing For A Drama Series Emmy.

Martin Scorsese Adds Emmy Winner to His List of Accomplishments

He finally picked up an Oscar in 2007 for The Departed, and now Martin Scorsese has his won his first Emmy. Scorsese was named Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for directing the pilot episode of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

Scorsese, who loves to talk, worried about having to rush through his acceptance speech but still seemed to manage to thank everyone he needed to.

Boardwalk Empire returns for its second season on September 25, 2011 and HBO provided this synopsis of what we can expect from season two: “Nucky (Steve Buscemi) and his lieutenants – including young World War I veteran Jimmy Darmody (Michael Pitt) – appear to have solidified their hold on power by rigging an election and getting a crony elected mayor. However, after a bloody KKK attack at Chalky White’s bootleg warehouse, Nucky finds his hold on Atlantic City weakened, first by state agents who arrest him for election fraud and ransack his office, then by members of his own inner circle and even his family, who align with Jimmy’s father, the aging Commodore Louis Kaestner, in an attempt to oust him altogether. Meanwhile, mobsters like Arnold Rothstein, Lucky Luciano, Meyer Lansky and Al Capone wait in the wings, looking for the chance to grab a bigger piece of Nucky’s pie.”
