‘Outlander: Blood of my Blood’ Episode 4 Recap: “A Soldier’s Heart”

Starz’s Outlander: Blood of my Blood episode four brings two very important figures in the Outlander world together for the very first time. Episode four, “A Soldier’s Heart,” also moves the story of Brian and Ellen’s forbidden romance forward and spends time on Henry’s search for the love of his life.

The following is a detailed recap of episode four, which premiered on August 22, 2025. There are spoilers ahead, so watch the episode before reading on.

Julia (Hermione Corfield) learns that she’s angered the fairy folk by spilling milk as episode four begins. She’s disappointed to hear Lord Lovat is returning to Castle Leathers after a month’s absence and volunteers to leave an offering at the old milking stone. Mistress Porter (Sara Vickers) isn’t sure it’ll appease them, but it’s worth a try.

Julia, in a voice-over, talks about the origin of fairies. She confesses she still doesn’t understand how or why she’s traveled to this time, or if she’ll ever escape.

A flashback to WWI shows Julia asking Henry (Jeremy Irvine) if he’d consider Peter, as in Pan, if their baby is a boy. Henry’s certain the baby’s a boy, but all he wants is for his lovely wife and their child to be healthy. Henry’s thrilled he might get his old job as a solicitor back, and Julia believes she’ll make Peter proud by going to college.

The Julia trapped in the past writes to Henry, telling him she’s done what she had to do to keep their baby safe. But she remains committed to getting back to him. She rubs leaves on her neck and arms, hoping for a rash that will keep Lord Lovat away.

Brian (Jamie Roy) delivers a letter from the Grants to his dad. It’s written by Henry as the family’s bladier, and Lord Lovat sits on the toilet (it seems to be a common location for conversations to take place), reading the disappointing news. The Grants don’t believe Lord Lovat’s claims about Ellen MacKenzie’s virtue, so they’ll continue aligning with them. Lord Lovat insists Ellen’s “tarnished goods,” but Brian warns him not to overplay his hand.

Julia’s plan to keep the laird away works and when she asks to visit an apothecary for a cure, Lord Lovat quickly agrees. Brian offers to escort her.

Ellen Continues to Resist Marrying Malcolm

Beltane is two months away and Colum (Seamus McLean Ross) informs his sister that Malcolm wants her to attend with him as his betrothed. Ned will accompany her. Colum orders Ellen to not just go with Malcolm but do it with a smile. Ellen continues to insist she doesn’t want to marry Malcolm Grant, but Colum doesn’t care. He won’t break his word to Isaac Grant. The last person who proposed marriage to a Grant and then backed out was “disappeared.” That would likely be Ellen’s fate if she doesn’t marry Malcolm.

Colum also breaks the news that their dad lost most of the money he’d overseen for the clan. They’re nearly destitute now, thanks to their dad’s mismanagement. Ellen’s marriage to a Grant will help their family survive. Colum hopes the Grants won’t ask for a cash dowry and that once she’s wed, she can be the family’s spy. Ellen warns him that if she marries a Grant, her allegiance will shift.

Meanwhile, Brian asks about Julia’s rashes as they ride to Inverness, and she prefers not to discuss it. Julia wonders why Brian hasn’t left home, and he confesses he’s a bastard without much to offer. She compliments his looks and reminds him he doesn’t need a wife to leave home. As they’re chatting, Julia reveals she can read, and Brian’s surprised. “There’s more to you than meets the eye,” he says. (That’s quite an understatement!)

Julia’s equally surprised when Brian reveals he knows she deliberately caused the rash. He’s not taking her to the apothecary; they’re headed toward Castle Leoch and the MacKenzies. He wants Julia to deliver a message to Ellen, and she confesses she’s pregnant and worried about putting her baby in danger. He had no idea she was pregnant but promises that this is a safe mission. If she gets in trouble, she can ask for Mrs. Fitzgibbons, Ellen’s maid.

Julia wonders why he would trust her to return, and Brian assures her he’s on her side and her only friend. He promises to help her escape if she delivers the message.

They wait until nightfall, and she’s admitted to the castle without much ado. She asks for Mrs. Fitz (Sally Messham), explains that she knows Murtagh, and then makes up a story about becoming lost and needing a place to rest. As they’re walking, Mrs. Fitz describes Ellen as heartsick and about to be married.

Mrs. Fitz rushes off to see Ellen after instructing Julia where to rest. But instead of resting, Julia secretly follows Mrs. Fitz to Ellen ‘s bedroom. When Mrs. Fitz leaves, she tells Ellen that she’s got a message from Brian Frazer.

Ellen pulls her into her bedroom and Julia explains that Brian’s waiting outside the walls. Ellen insists her brothers will kill him if they learn he’s nearby. She’s being watched and is basically a prisoner. Ellen explains that she’s being forced to accompany Malcolm to Inverness for Beltane, and that if the fairies have their way, they’ll lock her in a 100-year dance. Julia realizes that Ellen’s story about a 100-year dance and a fairy hill refers to the standing stones that she stepped through to travel to this era!

Julia knows the pain of being separated from her true love and believes Ellen should follow her heart. “If you don’t go, it will haunt you forever,” warns Julia. Ellen agrees, and the two women sneak out through the secret opening in the wall.

Ellen meets Brian and he confesses that he came to find out if she wanted to marry Malcolm. They hold hands, stare into each other’s eyes, and confirm their love. She promises to find a way out of marrying Malcolm and to see him at Beltane.

Brian and Julia hurry away when Dougal (Sam Retford) approaches. Ellen lies that she was outside praying because she couldn’t sleep. He insists she return to her room, and she claims she’s not a prisoner. Dougal tries to force her and reminds her that until she’s married, she must follow orders.

On the ride back to Castle Leathers, Julia says she’ll help Brian deal with the Malcolm situation at Beltane, but she needs his help in return. She explains that she and her husband were separated near Inverness and that if Brian takes her to Beltane, she might be able to find him. Brian agrees to the deal.

The following day, Ellen presents Colum with a list of suggested wedding guests, pretending that she’ll go through with the wedding to Malcolm to help their family. She’ll even go with him to Beltane.

Over at Castle Leathers, Lord Lovat summons Julia to his bedroom and he’s pleased her rash has disappeared. He calls her his English rose and Julia asks him to be gentle because she’s carrying his baby. He smiles and calls it blessed news, just as Mistress Porter enters the room. Lord Lovat hopes it will be another son. Davina Porter offers her congratulations.

Henry is Haunted by Memories of War

Henry’s briefly excited when Una Hay (Madeline Appiah) claims to have found Julia. Unfortunately, she located the wrong English woman. He admits to the prostitute Una mistook for his wife that he both hoped for and dreaded finding Julia in this whorehouse.

In the days following, Isaac Grant (Brian McCardie) asks about Henry’s search. He warns his bladier to cut back on his visits to Inverness and to always put the Grants’ interests first. Isaac orders Henry to ask each of their tenants for one shilling more than they usually pay. And he’ll be taking Arch Bug (Terence Rae) with him on the rounds to make sure he carries out his duties.

Henry collects the rents, and the tenants aren’t happy about the increase. One woman who’s recently lost her husband pays in honey, and Henry accepts it. Arch Bug warns him to be firm with the tenants, but Henry stands up to him. One tenant refuses to pay Henry, calling him “sassenach” and punching him in the face. Henry reacts by ruthlessly beating the man. The tenant grabs Henry’s necklace and pulls it off, and Henry immediately turns his attention to it and stops the beating. Henry then confronts Arch, angry that he didn’t step in and help. He doesn’t like taxing these people, but Arch smugly insists the tenants get the privilege of living on the Grant land.

A flashback shows Henry ordering a soldier to be quiet and not light a cigarette as bullets fly all around them in the dark of night. The enemies will see the flame and kill them. Julia flips on a light and Henry wakes from his nightmare, screaming at her that they’ll get shot. Julia pulls him into her chest and comforts him, singing while he shakes until he’s under control again. He puts his head in her lap, and she strokes his hair while trying to keep her sobs under control. She places her St. Anthony necklace in his hand, advising him to keep it close. St. Anthony will watch over him. (No wonder he was so quick to retrieve it during his fight with the tenant.)

Arch kicks Henry awake after he starts screaming for Julia in his sleep. Arch isn’t sympathetic and Henry rubs Julia’s St. Anthony’s pendant to calm down.

After recalling a conversation with Julia about buying lottery tickets even though the odds were against winning, Henry decides to handle the rent collection a little differently on his second day in charge. He informs the assembled tenants that they can pay what they can. However, each additional tuppence they choose to pay will get them a lottery ticket. They can purchase as many tickets as they want, and the winner will receive one year’s free rent.

Arch is dead set against the scheme, but Henry believes it will work. The first tenant pays extra for lottery tickets, as does the next one. Everyone seems on board with the idea, and they willingly turn over extra money for a shot at free rent.

Returning to the castle, Isaac demands to know why Henry didn’t raise the rents. (Arch told on him.) Henry presents Isaac with a bag of money that’s more than double what he would have collected. Henry says the tenants willingly paid, and Isaac will win over hearts when he announces the prize of a year free of paying rent.

Isaac insists no one will live rent-free on his land, even though Henry brought in much more cash than expected. Henry reminds him of the admiration he’ll receive from his tenants, but still Isaac doesn’t give in. Henry then offers to pay the rent out of his earnings. Isaac’s not sure whether Henry is brave or foolish, but he’ll let it happen this time. However, next time he won’t be as forgiving.

After Henry leaves, Arch offers to kill Henry, but Isaac’s not ready to take that drastic step yet.

Henry is seen in a flashback in bed apologizing for screaming when Julia turned on the light. Julia insists they’ll get through this together, but Henry thinks he’s too broken. Julia reminds him she fell in love with the man he is now, not who he was before the war. She knows he cares deeply, and that’s why his suffering is so deep. Julia asks him to think of her and their baby as his guiding light.

“Claire,” responds Henry. If it’s a girl, they will name her Claire. In French it means clear and bright.

Henry visits the prostitute again and confesses he didn’t have anyplace else to go. The prostitute figured out the woman he’s searching for isn’t just some lady. Henry admits she’s his wife and he can’t find her anywhere. She asks how she can please him, and Henry doesn’t want sex; he just wants to lie in her bed.

The episode is dedicated to the memory of “our beloved friend and colleague, Brian McCardie.”

‘Alone’ Season 12 Episode 10 Finale Recap

Alone Season 12
The three ‘Alone’ season 12 finalists (Photo Credit: The History Channel)

The History Channel’s Alone season 12 ends after the series’ shortest period of time in the wild. Episode 10 shows the three remaining participants battling a lack of food in South Africa’s Great Karoo desert. The weather hasn’t been as difficult to manage as previous seasons, and even the water supply seemed easier to access in season 12 than in most seasons. It’s basically the food supply and the participants’ mental states that whittled the number of survivalists down to just three, only 27 days into the adventure.

The following is a recap of the season 12 finale, which means there are spoilers—including the name of the winner.

Alone Season 12 Katie
Katie Rydge in ‘Alone’ season 12 (Photo Credit: The History Channel)

Katie Rydge: Age 45, Emerald Beach, AUS
Day 27, 3:08pm – Katie makes a huge mistake and creates a noise that scares away the kudu. That puts an end to her chances of getting protein today.

She’s still living off acacia but just can’t get any protein. Katie is tired, and her body is regretting all the plant food. However, she’s not giving up yet. She confesses she feels like this experience has been “a big, fat death quest.” Indigenous people have traditions that bring individuals close to death, according to The History Channel. Katie thinks a better name would be “commitment quest.” She believes Alone is teaching her what she needs to stop putting energy into to free herself to move forward.

Day 28, 10:26am – Katie dreamed about buying steak and decides to head out on a walk. She’s lost 31 pounds and is exhausted. Plant food no longer tastes good to her, and she needs more protein in her diet. She returns to her shelter and sits outside, contemplating things. She’s decided she needs to let go of expectations to move ahead.

Katie officially taps out. The country is besting her, and she doesn’t want to wind up hurting herself. It’s time to start a new chapter. She enjoyed her days in the competition and calls the experience a quest for her real truth. Katie thanks the land for what it taught her.

Alone Season 12 Kelsey Loper
Kelsey Loper in ‘Alone’ season 12 (Photo Credit: The History Channel)

Kelsey Loper: Age 35, Winnett, Montana
Day 29, 8:43am – It’s 28 degrees and Kelsey’s water bucket has frozen over. Her circulation is worse and she’s getting skinnier, but she wants to tough it out. Kelsey takes off on her walk, joking about passing out and the Alone medical staff having to rescue her. She’s eaten all of her jerky, and the catfish aren’t biting. Right now, she’s not worried about her weight loss.

She spots three bushbucks and that lifts her spirits. The sun feels good as she says winning would allow her to rescue more animals. Baboons wander by in the distance when she sits on her favorite rock. This area helps her get mentally strong, which she needs to stay in the competition. She’ll suck it up and remain on Alone until there comes a time when she’s sure she can’t make it another hour.

Day 33, 10:13am – Her pace has really slowed since day one and she admits to being exhausted after just five minutes.

11:03am – Her heart and breathing are concerning her, and she’s feeling a weight on her chest. THC confirms shortness of breath can be due to malnutrition. She’s down 27 pounds since the first day of Alone season 12.

12:23pm – Her legs are jelly and she’s constantly winded. It’s possible she’s reached the point where she can’t hike anymore. She strips and lies down in the sun, thinking about her job as a vet tech. She tells clients who wonder when to euthanize their pets to mark down the good and bad days. When the bad outnumbers the good, it’s probably time.

She wants to walk out of Alone on her own two feet. Kelsey knows she doesn’t have to prove anything to anyone and taps out—determined to go out on a good day. She tells the safety crew about her health concerns and desire to tap on a good day.

People doubted her, and she confesses she doubted herself, but she’s happy with what she’s experienced in South Africa. She’s the first female contestant to shoot a big game animal and thinks she’s represented women well. Kelsey’s no longer an underdog; she’s a force to be reckoned with.

Alone Season 12 Nathan Olsen
Nathan Olsen in ‘Alone’ season 12 (Photo Credit: The History Channel)

Nathan Olsen: Age 52, Buhl, Idaho
Day 28, 7:12am – Nathan’s rock house is looking sturdy and comfortable. The roof is covered in clay, and he’s placed horns above his door. He woke up and cooked buffalo thorn fruits to make coffee. His thoughts are about his wife, and he admits he’s rarely doing nothing in his head. He’s working on training himself to not think about anything, noting it’s a healthy thing for his brain.

While the coffee is boiling, he works on the shelter’s interior. He wants a 10’ bed—the full length of his shelter. Leftover stone and sand are right outside and will be used to fill his bed. He takes a break and drinks his coffee, and THC describes its flavor as sweet. Nathan misses his wife and kids but is enjoying his Alone time. He just needs more calories to thrive.

Day 30, 7:47am – There’s nothing on Nathan’s lines and he’s officially out of food. He thought he’d do better fishing, but he can’t cast out because his hooks will snag on something underground.

Nathan burned 22,000 calories building his rock house and he needs food soon. He heads out to harvest prickly pear, although he wants to return to hunting. Unfortunately, the big game are on the top of nearby hills and that takes a lot of calories. Instead, he’s forced to stay close to his shelter.

Back at his house, he roasts his prickly pear while thinking about one of his 10 children. He can’t wait to get home and hear about Isaiah’s summer adventures. Isaiah is closest in age to Porter, who passed away, and they did everything together.

The prickly pear isn’t great but at least it’s a few calories’ worth of food.

Day 32, 3:37pm – Nathan drinks more coffee and considers how strong of a mind you need to win Alone. He recalls a lesson he learned from his mom about not giving up and how experiencing difficult times makes you the person you are.

6:43pm – He returns to the water to check his lines. Nathan’s lost almost 20 pounds since day one and feels a lack of energy. He admits he hasn’t figured out the calorie puzzle.

9:13pm – He runs back to the water after hearing splashing. A 4’ long catfish is on the line, and it should be worth about 10,000 calories. (It weighs 50 pounds.)  Nathan doesn’t mind that he’s forced to make two trips to get all his stuff back to his shelter.

Day 34, 8:13am – Nathan doesn’t know it when he wakes up but he’s now the last contestant standing on season 12. One of his daughters asked him to do one thing for her, and he writes “Fort No Regrats” on his shelter—spelling it the way she told him to. (He added the “Fort” part to the name.)

He thinks the time has flown by and he’s looking forward to just slowing down now and enjoying his days on Alone. He’s preparing to cook the fish head when he gets a message that the crew is heading his way for a med check.

THC shows Nathan’s son, Isaiah, on the boat heading toward his dad’s camp. The team checks Nathan’s vitals as Isaiah waits out of sight. Nathan tells the medical staff that he’s doing great and isn’t feeling any difficulties. All he needs to do is build a door for his shelter. He reveals he’s only taking part on Alone and remaining in the competition because he has the support of his kids.

As he’s talking, Isaiah quietly approaches from behind. “What about your kids?” asks Isaiah, smiling. Nathan’s shocked and overcome with emotion, grabbing Isaiah up in a huge hug. They exchange I love yous as Nathan cries. Isaiah’s also wiping away tears as Nathan gives him a tour of his house. “Unbelievable, but totally believable at the same time,” says Isaiah, looking around his dad’s rock house.

They enjoy catfish head together by the river as Nathan feels an immense sense of relief. They toast with catfish cheek. Money is just the cherry on top of this experience for Nathan. He got to behave like a kid again during these 34 days.

He’s taking away from this that the deep joy we have in our lives is our relationships with other people. His love for his family has deepened because of this experience.

Season 12 ends with a dedication to season two winner David Brooks McIntyre, who passed away on November 22, 2024.

The one-minute teaser for HBO Max’s The Pitt season two shows the emergency room staff preparing for a tier one trauma as a new day and new shift begins. The critically acclaimed, 13-time Emmy-nominated series premiered in January 2025, and season two is expected to debut in January 2026.

Noah Wyle returns to lead the cast as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Patrick Ball stars as Dr. Langdon, Katherine LaNasa is Dana Evans, Supriya Ganesh is Dr. Mohan, and Fiona Dourif reprises her role as Dr. McKay. Filling out the ensemble are Taylor Dearden as Dr. King, Isa Briones as Dr. Santos, Gerran Howell as Whitaker, Shabana Azeez as Javadi, and Sepideh Moafi as Dr. Al-Hashimi.

The Pitt is a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh,” reads HBO Max’s synopsis.

Discussing his return to medical dramas after 11 seasons of ER, Wyle told NPR that the show’s secret weapon is Dr. Joe Sachs, a board-certified emergency room physician who was a writer and technical advisor on the long-running series. “He is meticulous, his attention to detail, and he basically does those trauma scenes,” said Wyle. “He will sort of present what the appropriate medicine and procedures are, what each person in the room’s role is, given their hierarchy in the hospital, and even weighing in a little bit on emotionally how they may be feeling given the circumstances and stakes of the case.”

R. Scott Gemmill created the series and executive produces along with Noah Wyle, John Wells, Michael Hissrich, Erin Jontow, and Simran Baidwan. The series is produced by John Wells Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.

‘Anemone’ Trailer: Daniel Day-Lewis Emerges From Retirement

Three-time Oscar winner Daniel Day-Lewis retired from acting and hasn’t starred in a film since 2017’s Phantom Thread. However, his son’s directorial debut, Anemonewhich just released an official trailer—has drawn him out of retirement both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.

Daniel Day-Lewis co-wrote the screenplay with his son, Ronan, and serves as an executive producer. Sean Bean and Samantha Morton also star in the drama, which will have its world premiere at the 2025 New York Film Festival. Focus Features is targeting a limited theatrical release on October 3, 2025, before expanding into additional theaters on October 10.

The New York Film Festival offers this description of Anemone: “The Northern England–set Anemone begins as a middle-aged man (Sean Bean) sets out from his suburban home on a journey into the woods, where he reconnects with his estranged hermit brother (Day-Lewis). Bonded by a mysterious, complicated past, the men share a fraught, if occasionally tender relationship—one that was forever altered by shattering events decades earlier. An emotional powerhouse, this directorial debut is assured in both small details and grand gestures as it charts the path toward familial redemption against all odds.”

Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner are the producers, and Brad Pitt serves as an executive producer.

The Flash‘s Tom Cavanagh and Sullivan’s Crossing‘s Amalia Williamson are confirmed to star in Acorn TV’s You’re Killing Me. Brooke Shields leads the cast and serves as an executive producer of the murder mystery series.

Production is expected to begin in September 2025 in Nova Scotia. The six-episode series will launch on Acorn TV next year.

“Set in a quaint New England colonial town, You’re Killing Me (the series’ former working title was Allie & Andi) follows bestselling novelist (Shields) who forms an unlikely alliance with an aspiring writer and podcaster (Williamson) to find the killer of a close friend,” reads Acorn TV+’s synopsis. “Williamson will play ‘Andi,’ a sassy Girl Wonder who was once an up-and-coming celebrity until she lost it all. Cavanagh is on board as ‘Jack,’ the new lead detective of the Founders Cove Police Department and former city slicker who is trying to acclimate to the quirks of small-town life.”

Richard Gadd follows up his critically acclaimed drama Baby Reindeer with Half Man, which just released the first three photos. HBO and BBC are targeting a 2026 launch of the six-episode drama created by and starring Gadd opposite Jamie Bell.

The cast also includes Stuart Campbell, Mitchell Robertson, Neve McIntosh, Marianne McIvor, Charlie De Melo, and Bilal Hasna. Julie Cullen, Amy Manson, Philippine Velge, Stuart McQuarrie, Piers Ewart, Scot Greenan, Charlotte Blackwood, and Calum Manchip round out the ensemble.

HBO offers this description of the drama: “Half Man follows estranged ‘brothers’ Niall (‘Bell) and Ruben (‘Gadd). When Niall’s estranged ‘brother’ Ruben shows up at his wedding, it leads to an explosion of violence that catapults us back through their lives. Spanning almost 40 years from the 1980s to the present day, Mitchell Robertson and Stuart Campbell portray Niall (Robertson) and Ruben (Campbell) in their younger years, in a series that explores the highs and lows of Ruben and Niall’s relationship, from meeting them as troubled teenagers to witnessing their falling out as adults—with all the good, bad, terrible, funny, angry, and challenging moments along the way.

The series will capture the wild energy of a changing city—a changing world, even—and plumb the depths of what it means to be a man.”

Gadd serves as writer and executive producer, with Alexandra Brodski and Eshref Reybrouck directing.
