CBS is adding the new half-hour comedy DMV to their primetime lineup beginning on October 13, 2025 at 8:30pm ET/PT. The new single-camera workplace comedy, set in the world of East Hollywood’s Department of Motor Vehicles, joins a Monday lineup that includes The Neighborhood at 8pm, FBI at 9pm, and the new drama CIA at 10pm.
Harriet Dyer stars as Colette, Tim Meadows plays Gregg, Tony Cavalero is Vic, Molly Kearney is Barbara, Alex Tarrant is Noa, and Gigi Zumbado plays Ceci. Dana Klein created the series, writes, and executive produces. Additional executive producers include Matt Kuhn, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, and Robyn Meisinger. Trent O’ Donnell directed and executive produced the pilot.
“DMV is a single-camera comedy set in the place everyone dreads going most—the Department of Motor Vehicles—where employees are making minimum wage dealing with customers who are annoyed before they even walk in the door,” reads CBS’s synopsis. “Working at the East Hollywood DMV office are Colette (Dyer), a driving examiner with a big heart and bad boundaries; Gregg (Meadows), a misanthropic former English teacher; Vic (Cavalero), a former bouncer who loves putting difficult drivers in their places; Barbara (Kearney), a newly promoted manager who tries hard but often misses the mark; Noa (Tarrant), a charming surfer who seems destined for much greater things; and Ceci (Zumbado), a scrappy photographer who isn’t afraid to speak her mind. Fortunately, this quirky crew has each other to navigate the twists and turns of the DMV together.”
“Pilot” Plot: East Hollywood Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) driving examiner Colette pines for her coworker Noa while enduring teasing from colleagues Gregg, Vic, and Ceci. Also, new manager Barb rallies the crew to save their branch from government shutdown.

Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby star in ‘Eden’ (Photo Credit: Jasin Boland / Vertical)
Eden, directed by Ron Howard, is set against the backdrop of a broken world economy and rising fascism in 1929. German physician and writer Dr. Friedrich Ritter (Jude Law, Black Rabbit) and his companion Dore Strauch (Vanessa Kirby, The Fantastic Four: First Steps) flee Germany for the desolate yet beautiful island of Floreana in the Galapagos. Dr. Ritter’s declared (and overreaching) mission is to create a new philosophy capable of saving a dying world. Howard’s thriller dives into the true story of what was intended to be a utopian society, providing a compelling examination of human nature in its most extreme form.
As Friedrich’s letters to the mainland spread the word about his radical retreat, others looking for a fresh start are drawn to this remote sanctuary. Heinz (Daniel Brühl, All Quiet on the Western Front) and his pregnant wife, Margret Wittmer (Sydney Sweeney, Euphoria), are looking for a way out of a cruel world and a miracle for their sick son, Harry (Jonathan Tittel). Their arrival in 1932, drawn by the promise of happiness in a world gone mad, is the first crack in Friedrich’s carefully constructed utopia. Heinz and Margret’s uninvited presence undermines the very philosophy that Friedrich built his island paradise on.
But it’s the bold and flamboyant Austrian Baroness Eloise Wehrborn de Wagner-Bosquet (Ana de Armas, Ballerina) who presents the real test for this delicate community. Carried ashore on the shoulders of her lovers, Robert (Toby Wallace) and Rudolph (Felix Kammerer), she brings with her a heady mixture of ambition, glitz, and total indifference to the peaceful existence of the island’s current residents. The Baroness uses her sexuality to drive a wedge between factions, becoming a disruptive force that transforms the fight for survival into a psychological game with consequential stakes. The tension builds to a breaking point when the fragile alliances and personal convictions of the islanders are put to the ultimate test.
The fight for survival in this harsh environment is unending, and every drop of water and bite of food is a hard-won victory. The gorgeous cinematography shows the brutal beauty of the island, a place that’s as much a pivotal character as the flesh-and-blood characters who populate it.
Two-time Oscar winner Ron Howard has loaded his film with impressive actors, all of whom do terrific jobs of creating sympathy for these unlikeable characters. Shifting alliances within the group directly lead to shifts in perspective over who has the moral high ground and who’s the real antagonist of the piece.
Ana de Armas goes full camp as the Baroness, an absolute requirement for playing such a hedonistic shapeshifter. Jude Law and Vanessa Kirby are outstanding as the doctor, who’s slowly sinking into madness, and his partner, who’s far too late in questioning her life choices. Daniel Brühl and Sydney Sweeney seem an odd match as the WWI vet and his milquetoast wife, but their performances drive most of the narrative. It’s, at least initially, Friedrich’s island, but the pivotal players turn out to be Heinz and Margret.
Eden’s three different storylines make the film feel disjointed up until the final act, when the narrative threads deliver a satisfying payoff. Each group of settlers is worthy of their own film, and there’s a glossed-over feeling where too many of the essential details couldn’t be squeezed into a feature-length project. Friedrich’s obsessive behavior isn’t built out; he’s relegated to a supporting player even though the true story of his time on Floreana Island is incredibly fascinating.
Still, Eden’s exploration of what happens when unrealistic, lofty aspirations clash with grim reality makes for a gripping drama. Strong performances live up to the ambitious story, and in the end, Eden is a thought-provoking tale that leaves you pondering the price of paradise.

MGM+’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Institute scored the highest premiere ratings in the streamer’s history. Given that, it’s no surprise that MGM+ has ordered a second season of the horror thriller.
“Set free but hunted, new dangers await the escapees from the Institute and I can’t wait,” stated Stephen King. King’s involved as an executive producer, with Jack Bender (Mr. Mercedes, Game of Thrones) as director and executive producer and Benjamin Cavell (Justified, The Stand) as writer and executive producer.
Season one premiered in July 2025. The eight-episode second season hasn’t set a target date. The first season cast includes Ben Barnes (Shadow and Bone), Mary-Louise Parker (Weeds), Joe Freeman, Simone Miller (Run the Burbs), Fionn Laird (Under the Banner of Heaven), Jason Diaz, and Jane Luk.
“We’ve been so gratified by the response to our first season, which is a testament to the dedication of our fantastic cast and crew. We’re thrilled that Michael Wright and everyone at MGM have enabled us to continue Stephen’s powerful and timely story,” said Jack Bender and Benjamin Cavell. “From this project’s inception, we’ve felt there would be much more story to tell as our brilliant characters continue to navigate their way through the dangers of the world they’re facing.”
MGM+ offers this synopsis of season one: “The Institute follows the story of teen genius Luke Ellis (Freeman), who is kidnapped and awakens at The Institute, a facility full of children who all got there the same way he did and who are all possessed of unusual abilities. In a nearby town, haunted former police officer Tim Jamieson (Barnes) has come looking to start a new life, but the peace and quiet won’t last, as his story and Luke’s are destined to collide.”
Poster for ‘Death By Lightning’ (Photo Credit: Netflix)
Netflix has set a November 6, 2025 premiere date for the limited series Death by Lightning, based on the incredible true story of President James Garfield. The four-episode drama, created by Bad Education‘s Mike Makowsky, announced the date and unveiled the first official photos.
“Death by Lightning is a drama series that brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield, reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer, Charles Guiteau—the man who would come to kill him,” reads Netflix’s synopsis.
Michael Shannon stars as President James Garfield and Matthew MacFadyen plays Charles Giteau. Nick Offerman is Chester Arthur, Bradley Whitford is James Blaine, Shea Whigham is Roscoe Conkling, and Betty Gilpin is Crete Garfield. The limited series’ guest stars include Alistair Petrie as John Sherman, Archie Fisher as Joe Brown, Barry Shabaka Henley as Senator Blanche Bruce, Ben Miles as George Scoville, and Kyle Soller as Robert Todd Lincoln.
Additional guest stars include Laura Marcus as Mollie Garfield, Paula Malcomson as Franny Scoville, Shaun Parkes as Dr. Charles Purvis, Tuppence Middleton as Kate Chase Sprague, Vondie Curtis Hall as Frederick Douglass, and Željko Ivanek as Dr. Doctor Bliss.
Mike Makowsky wrote the limited series and serves as an executive producer along with David Benioff, D.B. Weiss, and Bernie Caulfield. Matt Ross directs and executive produces.
“The theme of corruption in politics and our bureaucracy feels particularly evergreen these days,” stated Makowsky, discussing the series’ setting with Tudum. “The idea of civil service reform and waging a battle to clean up the grift in our government—this is something that Garfield very much stood on the front lines of in his time. In 1881, it feels like America is sort of standing at a crossroads between the past and what the future of this country is going to look like, and it’s up to [people like Garfield] to really define how America, 100 years after its inception, is going to look and what kind of society they’re going to be.”
Fox’s medical drama Doc, starring Emmy nominee Molly Parker (House of Cards), returns for season two on September 23, 2025 at 9pm ET/PT. The network just released the first trailer for the upcoming season, which will find Amy still trying to piece together parts of her life prior to her horrible accident.
In addition to Parker, season two stars Omar Metwally as Dr. Michael Hamda, Felicity Huffman as Dr. Joan Ridley, Amirah Vann as Dr. Gina Walker, and Charlotte Fountain-Jardim as Katie Hamda. Jon Ecker plays Dr. Jake Heller and Anya Banerjee plays Dr. Sonya Maitra.

Fox released the following description of the popular medical drama:
“Inspired by a true story and based on the hit eponymous Italian drama series, Doc begins its second season of the life-affirming medical drama following the heartbreak and victories of hard-charging, brilliant physician DR. AMY LARSEN (Parker) as she rebuilds her life after a car crash erased eight years of her memory. This season, Amy will continue to confront hard truths about her missing years, work to repair fractured relationships and seek to reconcile the person she used to be with the one everyone else has come to know.
Determined to get her memory back and piece together who she really is, Amy’s goal is to become the doctor she used to be in those missing years and to eventually, once again, be Chief of Internal Medicine. In the interim, her ex-husband/Westside Hospital’s Chief Medical Officer, DR. MICHAEL HAMDA (Metwally) fills the position with Amy’s former mentor and friend DR. JOAN RIDLEY (Huffman), whose motives and priorities remain hidden, just as long as Amy still can’t recall Joan’s life-changing secret. Amy’s best friend and colleague, DR. GINA WALKER (Vann), is weary of Joan’s motives and continues to be a beacon of support for those around her, while finally learning to put on her own oxygen mask first.
While relearning eight years of medical advancements is complicated, it pales in comparison to learning to navigate her new/old/current romantic entanglements. Amy continues to fight her feelings and let Michael go, especially now with the birth of his son with his new wife, bringing up emotions for both Amy and their daughter KATIE HAMDA (Fountain-Jardim). Amy’s on-again, off-again relationship with Chief Resident DR. JAKE HELLER (Ecker) is a bit more delicate as he struggles to protect his heart from her this time around. However, DR. SONYA MAITRA (Banerjee) would only be too glad to pick up the pieces, navigating the balance between her feelings for Jake and her complicated resentment towards Amy.
The second season of Doc begins as Amy’s past comes back to haunt her when a desperate father sacrifices everything to secure his daughter’s heart transplant. Chaos and confusion reverberate through the hallways of Westside Medical when a subsequent high-stakes emergency leaves a doctor’s life in the balance.”
