Disney+’s new lengthy trailer for Star Wars: Ahsoka provides our first look at a live-action Thrawn. Lars Mikkelsen provided the character’s voice in the animated Star War Rebels series and reprises his role in the latest addition to the Star Wars franchise.
In an interview with EW, Mikkelsen offered a short description of Thrawn.
“He’s a top strategist,” said Mikkelsen. “He’s always seven paces ahead of anybody else. And ruthless, of course. But only when it’s needed, actually. I think he thrives also with the creativity of the surroundings. I mean, he’s not using people in a bad way. He’s using their creativity to reach his goals.”
Rosario Dawson leads the cast in the titular role. The series also stars Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Ray Stevenson (who passed away on May 21, 2023) as Baylan Skoll, and Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati. Diana Lee Inosanto plays Morgan Elsbeth, David Tennant is Huyang, and Eman Esfandi is Ezra Bridger.
Dave Filoni, Steph Green, Peter Ramsey, Jennifer Getzinger, Geeta Vasant Patel, and Rick Famuyiwa directed. Filoni also serves as head writer and executive produces along with Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson and Carrie Beck.
Ahsoka will premiere on Disney+ on August 23, 2023 with the release of the first two episodes.
Disney+ offered this very brief description of the series: “Set after the fall of the Empire, Star Wars: Ahsoka follows the former Jedi Knight Ahsoka Tano as she investigates an emerging threat to a vulnerable galaxy.”
