‘Dead Ringers’ Teaser Trailer: Rachel Weisz Takes on Dual Roles

Jeremy Irons did it in David Cronenberg’s original 1988 thriller Dead Ringers and now Rachel Weisz is taking on dual roles in an updated version. The first teaser trailer for the Prime Video limited series very briefly introduces Weisz as Dr. Elliot Mantle and as Dr. Beverly Mantle, but the short look’s enough to grab our attention.

All six episodes of the limited series premiere on April 21, 2023.

Joining Rachel Weisz in the thriller are Britne Oldford (The Umbrella Academy) as Genevieve, Poppy Liu (Better Call Saul) as Greta, Michael Chernus (Orange is the New Black) as Tom, Jennifer Ehle (Zero Dark Thirty) as Rebecca, and Emily Meade (The Leftovers) as Susan.

Playwright and Emmy-nominated writer Alice Burch (Normal People) created the series and serves as writer, showrunner, and executive producer. Rachel Weisz (for Astral Projection) also executive produces along with Stacy O’Neil, Sue Naegle, Sean Durkin, Erica Kay, Anne Carey, Polly Stokes, and Annapurna Television’s Ali Krug. In addition, Morgan Creek’s James G. Robinson, David Robinson, and Barbara Wall executive produce.

The first two episodes were directed by Sean Durkin (Martha Marcy May Marlene). Durkin also co-directed episode six. Additional directors include Karyn Kusama (Jennifer’s Body), Karena Evans (P-Valley), and Lauren Wolkstein (Y: The Last Man).

The limited series is a Amazon Studios and Annapurna Television co-production.

A modern take on David Cronenberg’s 1988 thriller starring Jeremy Irons, Dead Ringers features Rachel Weisz playing the double-lead roles of Elliot and Beverly Mantle, twins who share everything: drugs, lovers, and an unapologetic desire to do whatever it takes – including pushing the boundaries of medical ethics – in an effort to challenge antiquated practices and bring women’s health care to the forefront.
