Emmy nominee Edgar Ramirez (The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story, The Undoing) is set to star in Dr. Death season two. The first season of Peacock’s anthology series followed Joshua Jackson as Dr. Christopher Duntsch, a Texas neurosurgeon who was responsible for the maiming or killing of 33 patients. Ramirez has been tapped to play surgeon Paolo Macchiarini in the second season of the anthology series.

Peacock offered this description of the upcoming season and Ramirez’s character:

“This season will feature the ‘Miracle Man’ storyline based on the most recent third season of the [Wondery] podcast. Paolo Macchiarini is a charming surgeon, renowned for his innovative operations that earn him the nickname ‘Miracle Man.’ When investigative journalist Benita Alexander approaches him for a story, the line between personal and professional begins to blur, changing her life forever.

As she learns how far Paolo will go to protect his secrets, a group of doctors halfway across the world make shocking discoveries of their own that call everything about the ‘Miracle Man’ into question.”

Ashley Michel Hoban will guide season two as showrunner, writer, and executive producer. Patrick Macmanus, season one’s showrunner, will serve as an executive producer along with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Taylor Latham, Aaron Hart, Hernan Lopez, Marshall Lewy, and Linda Gase. Jennifer Morrison’s on board to direct episodes one through four, and Laura Belsey will direct episodes five through eight.

Edgar Ramirez’s recent credits include The 355, Jungle Cruise, Yes Day, and The Last Days of American Crime.
