Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode two opens with Imogen (Bailee Madison) freaking out, thinking she is seeing things late at night while alone in her room. But it turns out nothing is there. From that spooky opening bit, we dive straight into summer school.

The First Day of Summer School

As the girls start summer school, the weather matches their gloomy mood. Their disdain for having to be there is obvious.

The girls discover they are all in the same class, except for poor Imogen. She’s having none of it when assigned to a different class, and deposits herself in the class with her friends. Unfortunately, the teacher isn’t up for her shenanigans and sends her to the “overflow” class. Apparently, “overflow” is where all the school’s bad kids are sent.

Imogen takes a seat and finds a rose in her desk.

A girl by the name of Jen (Ava Capri) walks into class and it appears she and Noa (Maia Reficco) know each other. Noa goes into the bathroom to say hi and we learn they met in juvie.

Imogen tells Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) during group therapy how unhappy she is that she’s not with her friends. All the girls complain, and the doctor suggests they have fun after school.

Imogen stays to talk to Dr. Sullivan about the medication she is taking. She thinks the drugs are making her see things. Her mom had a history of depression, so she believes that talking to her dad about her mom and the medication she was on will help.

Wes hires a new guy, Christian (Noah Alexander Gerry), to work at the theater and Tabby (Chandler Kinney) seems attracted to him. Also on the work front, Faran (Zaria) is working out when her coach offers her a lifeguard position.

Noa and Jen are catching up when Jen comes out and asks if she was a part of the Millwood massacre. Noa confirms she was.

Although they’ve been advised not to give out their phone numbers, multiple people are asking for them. The girls are reluctant but ultimately give out their numbers.

Imogen visits her dad, and he wonders what’s going on. She confesses she’s feeling a lot of anxiety and taking medication. He offers his home if she wants to spend some time away from everything.

Kelly (Mallory Bechtel) and Greg (Elias Kacavas) are back at her church, again, and Greg thinks it’s crazy. Kelly seems to have a rival, even in church. Sandy (Lilla Crawford) appears to be her latest nemesis.

Imogen applies for a job at a diner and lies about her name. Meanwhile, Noa confesses to Shawn (Alex Aiono) that her mom is still in rehab.

Imogen tells Tabby that she went to see her dad and that she got a job at a diner that happens to be near her dad’s house. Tabby talks about the new theater guy, Christian, and Imogen notices she’s looking at his Instagram. Imogen accidentally likes one of his old photos using Tabby’s account.

Kelly and Greg are practicing for the church play when he tries to take a kiss further. He’s clearly frustrated with her new lifestyle.

Mouse (Malia Pyles), who is now staying with her grandmother while her mom takes a cruise, finds a rose being held by a doll in her mom’s shop. When her grandma tries to use their computer, she sees the Spooky Spaghetti site. While closing the site, Mouse sees a “have you seen this person” post about teens Nick and Sabrina. She realizes they are the kids who were absent from her summer school class.

Tuesday

Mouse informs the girls about the teens who went missing after going to Bloody Rose Waters’ shack in the woods. They argue over whether Blood Rose is real, and Imogen’s shocked to learn they went to a creepy cabin without her. Minutes later, Noa finds a rose in her locker.

Faran tries out for lifeguard and in a race against Greg, she beats him.

Noa’s boss informs her that her friend Jen came by wanting a job. Noa says she doesn’t mind if he hires her.

Wes and Christian are arguing over zombie movies when Tabby jumps in and schools them. Wes tries to get Tabby to show Christian her film, describing her as the ultimate real-life final girl. She doesn’t want to and instead asks for time off to go with her friends to see Imogen at her new job.

The BFFs think it’s strange Imogen is going by her mom’s middle name at work. They also think it’s weird that her job is so far away. Imogen confesses she wants to be someone else where people don’t know her.

Imogen is alone at a bus stop at night when she sees Bloody Rose Waters in the woods. The bus pulls up just in time.

Mouse and Ash are suddenly awakened by her grandmother screaming. Grandma claims there was a woman outside her window looking in. Ash goes to investigate while grandma reveals that the woman was covered in bloody bandages.

Wednesday

Morning arrives, and Mouse’s grandma doesn’t seem to remember the night before at all. She claims she sleepwalks sometimes.

At school, Imogen’s friends notice she seems off. She’s back in their class and tells the teacher she belongs in this class with her friends. Imogen also declares that she’s not leaving.

The girls take Imogen out of class and ask what’s going on. Imogen confesses that she’s hallucinating; she is seeing Bloody Rose and her mom. She tells them about her encounter at the bus stop. Imogen breaks down and explains why she doesn’t want to be herself. She has been through a lot and just wants to escape her life. Imogen wants to be a girl who didn’t have a baby, who didn’t lose her mother, and who wasn’t attacked by a serial killer. Her friends tell her they love her and the love who she is now.

Imogen apologizes for having a psychotic breakdown during their hot girl summer.

Kelly finds out that she got the part of the Virgin Mary in the church play while her Greg got the part of pre-marital sex teens alongside her rival, Sandy.

Tabby has a change of heart and offers to show Christian her film. He talks her into showing it on the big screen and hosting a premiere. It’ll be the first time her friends and family have seen it together in a theater.

Faran has just discovered a rose in her gym bag when she’s interrupted by someone yelling Greg’s name. It’s her boyfriend, Henry (Ben Cook), and he’s come to confront Greg. After Greg uses homophobic slurs, Faran punches him in the nose. Her coach basically tells her not to let it happen again and lets her know she is going to be the captain. She swam circles around the other lifeguards.

Imogen visits Dr. Sullivan and wonders if she is a lost cause. The doctor thinks they should adjust her meds. Plus, she’ll get her moved into the same class as her friends.

Noa and Jen are reminiscing about juvie at work when Shawn walks in. She introduces him to Jen, and Jen insists she wouldn’t have survived juvie without Noa.

Faran offers to get Henry a job at the pool, but he won’t take it. It turns out that he can’t swim. However, Kelly has been contacting him about a part in a play at her church that he might be interested in.

Kelly confronts Greg about Sandy. She convinces him not to get with her rival.

The girls are wowed by the Orpheum’s marquee promoting Tabby’s film. They’re impressed with Christian’s thoughtfulness and think he must be crushing on Tabby.

They watch the film on the big screen and Christian says he loves it. (They’re the only ones in the theater.) The girls come up with excuses to leave so Christian can walk her home. As Tabby and Christian go through the theater closing duties, Tabby finds a rose. She mistakenly assumes it’s from Christian.

Imogen stops in at an ice cream shop, locally this time, and asks for an application. Johnny (Antonio Cipriano) hands her one and she introduces herself by her real name. She receives a call from an unknown caller, but she doesn’t answer.

As Tabby and Christian walk home, they bond over movies. She also receives a call from an unknown caller and doesn’t answer.

Faran too receives the call, but she doesn’t see it.

While Noa lies beside Shawn in bed, she has a flashback of cuddling with Jen in juvie. Her thoughts are interrupted by an unknown caller.

Pretty Little Liars: Summer School episode two ends with a bang … or should I say with a stab. Sandy is angry that Greg stood her up for Kelly. She writes a vicious text telling Greg to enjoy his time cuddling with a fake virgin. Before she can get in her car, she’s stabbed to death by Bloody Rose.

Mouse’s cell rings with the unknown caller notification while she’s scrolling through Spooky Spaghetti. She doesn’t answer. Seconds later, she receives an invitation from Bloody Rose Waters to chat. Mouse accepts and a woman’s disguised voice threatens her. “Save your breath. You’ll need it.”
