With just four episodes left in Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Summer School, episode five didn’t move us much closer to finding out the true identity of Bloody Rose. We learned in episode four that whoever the creepy murderer is, it’s not the real Rose Waters. The girls, minus Faran, visited the real Rose who promptly reacted by jumping off a bridge.

Episode five, “Friday the 13th,” starts off with a chaotic scene of people in Bloody Rose’s cabin who seem to be worshiping her. Cut to the girls frantically trying to take care of Faran’s gash that she received while fighting for her life with Bloody Rose. Instead of taking her to the hospital, Faran (Zaria) has the girls stitch her up while describing her encounter. The girls then describe their own encounter with the real Rose Waters.

If they had an actual suspect board, they think Dr. Sullivan would be on it. She was Rose’s therapist and Noa (Maia Reficco) believes she’s suspicious. Imogen (Bailee Madison) isn’t so sure. Everyone except Imogen agrees to take a break from Dr. Sullivan. Either Imogen’s still #TeamSullivan or she just wants another session to learn the truth.

Jen (Ava Capri) checks in on Noa, and Noa confesses she and her friends are going through some heavy stuff right now. The serious discussion leads to kissing.

Imogen and Tabby (Chandler Kinney) finally get a chance to catch up, and both reveal that they kissed the boys they like. They briefly set aside the fact they are being harassed by a psycho, again, and act like normal teens, talking about a feature double date.

Thursday the 12th

Shawn (Alex Aiono) shows up at Noa’s place and she jumps out of bed in a panic. She absolutely doesn’t want Shawn to know she was in bed with Jen.

Noa and Shawn go out for a run, and it seems like she’s going to confess what’s going on with her and Jen. Instead, she apologizes for them not spending much time together, blaming it on her work, being in summer school, and living with Jen. Shawn assures her she has nothing to apologize for.

Tabby and Imogen ask Tabby’s mom, Sidney, how Dr. Sullivan came to be recommended to them. Sidney says the referral came from Deputy Maroon. She suggests that no one has more experience with teenage trauma than Dr. Sullivan.

During a study session, Tabby wonders how they are supposed to study geometry while there’s someone trying to kill them. Faran receives a call from Henry and ignores it. Of course, the girls demand to know what is going on. Faran admits she’s still upset he’s been talking about their relationship during Kelly’s creepy church group sessions. Maybe they have outgrown each other.

Imogen shows up for her scheduled appointment with Dr. Sullivan (Annabeth Gish) and asks why she was recommended to them by Deputy Maroon. Sullivan claims she has helped the police department over the years, and then asks why the other girls haven’t shown up for their group session. Imogen fills her in on how they had a crazy night, and that they found the real Rose Waters. Sullivan is shocked and asks if they went looking for Rose. Imogen has questions of her own, like where was the good doctor the previous night. Dr. Sullivan insists she was at home, Zooming with patients.

Elsewhere, Greg (Elias Kacavas) tries to offer Faran a hand at the pool and she declines. He doesn’t understand why she feels like she needs to prove something and that leads to the two arm-wrestling. Somehow, Faran wins but now her arm wound is bleeding.

Tabby and Christian (Noah Alexander Gerry) discuss their favorite Friday the 13th films as they get ready for the annual Friday the 13th marathon. Their boss, Wes (Derek Klena), finds a fake hand in the popcorn machine and wants to know why it’s there. Tabby comes clean and explains that she shot her new short there. She asks if Wes’ professor friend on the committee might be able to put in a good word for her, and Wes becomes angry. Wes can’t believe she shot a film without asking his permission, given that it would have been bad if someone got injured in the theater.

When Wes leaves, Christian admits he doesn’t trust Wes. He thinks Wes has darkness in him.

Shawn’s mom shows up at Noa’s work upset that her son gave her $2,000 to help Jen. She demands Noa pay her son back. Jen believes that Noa should break up with Shawn and be done with his family. Noa won’t do that, and Jen wonders what last night was then.

Jen promises Noa she’ll get money to repay Shawn.

Johnny (Antonio Cipriano) wonders if Imogen is doing okay and if she is good after they kissed. She insists she is, just as her dad shows up. He wants to stay in touch more and confesses that he’s engaged to a woman named Rebecca now.

Faran tells Henry (Ben Cook) she’s not happy he’s telling a church group about their private business. Henry reacts by telling her she needs to attend a group session there. It appears Henry’s in deep with the church now.

Wes returns to the theater in a pissy mood and tells Tabby he thinks PIFT only asked her to submit a short because they are getting dragged on social media for their lack of diversity. Tabby loses it and insists she got the call because she’s good. She insults her boss by taking a dig at him for being 30 and still working at the theater. Tabby challenges Wes to a short-off. They will both post their shorts without credits and let the masses vote. Wes doesn’t bite.

Noa tells Shawn about his mom demanding the money back. Shawn is incredulous and says he’ll handle it.

Mouse (Malia Pyles) finds her grandmother, Lola, watching a video on Spooky Spaghetti. On the screen are 12 people and a woman’s voice saying, “The reckoning is coming soon. In honor of Friday the 13th, she has delivered us a message. We must prove our devotion to her or risk her wrath on the night of Blood Atonement.”

The 12 people slice their foreheads with knives, and so does Lola who appears to be in a trance.

Imogen and Tabby exchange CliffsNotes versions of their day, and Imogen now believes Dr. Sullivan is hiding something. Tabby worries she’s using everything they’ve told her about Bloody Rose against them. Imogen jokingly suggests they should break into the doctor’s office and go through her things. Judging by the sly smiles on their faces, the suggestion is most definitely happening.

A short time later, Imogen and Tabby go through files at Dr. Sullivan’s office. Imogen finds hers, and Dr. Sullivan wrote that she is teetering on a psychotic break. The girls discover transcripts of all their sessions. They’re shocked and take all the files, noting it’s illegal to record people without their consent.

Faran attends the church’s group session with Henry and Pastor Malachi encourages them all to be truthful. Kelly admits she was cruel to Faran because she was jealous of her talent. Greg also confesses he has been giving Faran a hard time all summer to make her feel weak and less than. He admits he respects her. Henry apologizes to Faran as well.

Friday the 13th

The girls confront Dr. Sullivan and she claims she’s working on a book. Faran threatens to sue her, and Imogen is hurt because she thought Dr. Sullivan cared about her.

Mouse tells the girls about the freaky video of the reckoning and how people are hurting themselves for Bloody Rose. Even her grandma cut her forehead.

Over the theater, the AC isn’t working and Wes hasn’t shown up for work. Tabby suggests they move the marathon to the old camp she used to go to as a child.

Shawn thinks he can solve the issue with his mom if he moves out of the house. He asks Noa if he can stay with her and says he’ll always choose her over everyone else – including his mom.

Faran and Greg talk about the group sessions and she’s curious if they are always like that. Greg doesn’t know because he’s not a part of the inner circle. Apparently, Henry already is.

Imogen brings Johnny with her to meet her dad’s fiancé. They’re having a nice lunch when Imogen notices Rebecca is wearing her mom’s ring. Imogen wants the ring back, and Rebecca reminds her that it didn’t belong to her mother. (It’s from Imogen’s father’s family.) Imogen freaks out, demanding that Rebecca hand it over or else she will cut it off her finger. When she grabs a knife, Imogen’s dad orders her to leave. Imogen calls her dad a coward for not showing up at her mom’s funeral. She tells him to never come looking for her again. He’s no longer a part of her life.

Faran returns to the church to figure out what is going on. She sees Henry, Kelly, and others on their knees, with arms in the air and speaking in tongues. She’s spotted and takes off running. Henry catches up to her and admits she wasn’t supposed to see that. Faran questions if he wants to be with her, or if he and Kelly are trying to get her to join. He insists it’s not that. Faran asks him to walk away from that place and when he doesn’t answer, she breaks up with him for good.

Imogen is convinced Johnny thinks she’s nuts. But on the contrary, he understands she took a chance on her dad, and he let her down.

Noa returns home and Jen hands over the $2,000 to repay Shawn. Noa spots roses and a note on her coffee table. Jen assumed they were from Shawn and didn’t open the letter. Noa does and it reads: “You’ve been walking the forbidden path. Go there now alone, or one of your beloveds dies.”

The color drains from Noa’s face and she orders Jen to leave. Jen can’t believe what’s happening and Noa says she’s picking Shawn. She loves Shawn, not Jen. Jen doesn’t believe her and doesn’t pick up on the fact Noa is doing this to protect her.

Episode five ends with Camp Millwood hopping with horror movie fans while Noa heads to the location mentioned in the note. She discovers another note ordering her to remove her shoes and start walking. There are rose petals everywhere. There are also thorn-covered stems on the ground and Noa doesn’t want to keep going. Bloody Rose appears behind her with a dog. She releases the dog and Noa takes off running through the thorns.

Over at the horrorfest, Faran tells her friends she broke up with Henry. They finally realize Noa isn’t there with them. And that’s because she’s running through the forest, a dog hot on her heels. Suddenly, Jen drives up and saves her.
