The CW’s set to kick off the fifth and final season of The Vampire Diaries spinoff, The Originals, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 9pm ET/PT. Season five episode one, which picks up seven years after the season four finale, is titled “Where You Left Your Heart.” Lance Anderson directs from a script by Marguerite MacIntrye.
In support of the fifth season premiere, The CW’s released a batch of photos and the plot description for episode one.
The “Where You Left Your Heart” Plot: Desperate to see her father Klaus (Joseph Morgan) after seven years, Hope (Danielle Rose Russell) resorts to drastic measures to bring her father back to New Orleans. Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) attempts to minimize the fallout from Hope’s actions, but not before news of what she’s done ripples through the city. Meanwhile, Freya’s (Riley Voelkel) guilt over not being able to reunite her family gets in the way of her happiness with Keelin (guest star Christina Moses), while Rebekah (guest star Claire Holt) struggles with her inability to fully commit to Marcel (Charles Michael Davis). Finally, struggling without Elijah (Daniel Gillies) by his side, Klaus’ murderous rampage throughout Europe leads to an unexpected encounter with Caroline Forbes (guest star Candice King).
The Season 5 Plot: The final season of The Originals begins seven years after the core members of the Mikaelson family – Klaus (Morgan), Elijah (Gillies), Rebekah (Holt) and Kol (guest star Nathaniel Buzolic) — each absorb a quarter of the Hollow’s dark energy and flee New Orleans in order to keep both their beloved city and young Hope (guest star Summer Fontana) safe. In the interim, Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood) and Josh (Steven Krueger) preside over a Big Easy almost devoid of conflict, while Hayley (Tonkin) and Freya (Voelkel) watch Hope (Russell) grow into a teenager, eventually opting to send her to the Salvatore School so that Caroline (King) can keep an eye on her. With Marcel (Davis) following Rebekah out of town and Elijah stripped of his memory, the danger seems to be contained… until a sudden tragedy forces the siblings to return home. As the Mickaelsons return to New Orleans, bringing the pieces of a centuries old evil with them, it becomes clear that the closing chapter of this family saga will be as bloody and emotional as ever.
