The CW’s bringing back 14 series, however they’re mixing up the schedule a little and moving timeslots around. All American will move to Monday nights followed by Black Lightning. The Flash will retain its Tuesdays at 8pm ET/PT spot but Arrow moves off its Monday timeslot to follow The Flash at 9pm.

Charmed is vacating its Sunday spot to join Dynasty on Fridays this fall.

In addition to the 14 returning shows, The CW is adding three new series to its 2019-2010 primetime schedule. The much-anticipated Batwoman starring Ruby Rose will air Sundays at 8pm ET/PT followed by Supergirl at 9pm. Riverdale retains its Thursdays at 8pm ET/PT timeslot and newcomer Nancy Drew will follow at 9pm.

“The CW heads into next season riding a wave of creative momentum and expansion, with more original programming all year round, and a new Fall line-up boasting scripted series in every single time period across our six-night schedule. We have 14 returning series for next year and adding to that three exciting new shows, including our newest superhero, the thrilling Batwoman, the mystery and suspense of Nancy Drew and the aspirational Katy Keene, based on the Archie Comics characters,” said Mark Pedowitz, President, The CW. “As the original multiplatform network, combining our linear broadcast and our best in class ad-supported digital services with our ability to harness social like no one else, The CW’s distinct brand and programming strategy perfectly positions this network to grow and thrive in the current media landscape.”

Katy Keene and returning shows Legends of Tomorrow, In the Dark, Roswell, New Mexico, and The 100 will debut at midseason.

Details on The CW’s New and Returning Series:

BATWOMAN – Kate Kane (Ruby Rose) never planned to be Gotham’s new vigilante. Three years after Batman mysteriously disappeared, Gotham is a city in despair. Without the Caped Crusader, the Gotham City Police Department was overrun and outgunned by criminal gangs. Enter Jacob Kane (Dougray Scott) and his military-grade Crows Private Security, which now protects the city with omnipresent firepower and militia.

Years before, Jacob’s first wife and daughter were killed in the crossfire of Gotham crime. He sent his only surviving daughter, Kate Kane, away from Gotham for her safety. After a dishonorable discharge from military school and years of brutal survival training, Kate returns home when the Alice in Wonderland gang targets her father and his security firm, by kidnapping his best Crow officer Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy). Although remarried to wealthy socialite Catherine Hamilton-Kane (Elizabeth Anweis), who bankrolls the Crows, Jacob is still struggling with the family he lost, while keeping Kate –– the daughter he still has –– at a distance.

But Kate is a woman who’s done asking for permission. In order to help her family and her city, she’ll have to become the one thing her father loathes –– a dark knight vigilante. With the help of her compassionate stepsister, Mary (Nicole Kang), and the crafty Luke Fox (Camrus Johnson), the son of Wayne Enterprises’ tech guru Lucius Fox, Kate Kane continues the legacy of her missing cousin, Bruce Wayne, as Batwoman. Still holding a flame for her ex-girlfriend, Sophie, Kate uses everything in her power to combat the dark machinations of the psychotic Alice (Rachel Skarsten), who’s always somewhere slipping between sane and insane.

Armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind, Kate soars through the shadowed streets of Gotham as Batwoman. But don’t call her a hero yet. In a city desperate for a savior, she must first overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.

SUPERGIRL – SUPERGIRL is an action-adventure drama based on the DC character Kara Zor-El, (Melissa Benoist). Twelve-year-old Kara escaped the doomed planet Krypton and was sent to Earth where she was raised by a foster family. Kara grew up in the shadow of her foster sister, Alex (Chyler Leigh), and learned to conceal the phenomenal powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman, in order to keep her identity a secret.

Years later, Kara was living in National City and still concealing her powers, when a plane crash threatened Alex’s life and Kara took to the sky to save her. Now, Kara balances her work as a reporter for CatCo Worldwide Media with her work for the Department of Extra-Normal Operations (DEO), a super-secret government organization whose mission is to keep National City – and the Earth – safe from sinister threats. As Kara struggles to navigate her relationships and her burgeoning life as a reporter, her heart soars as she takes to the skies as Supergirl.

ALL AMERICAN – The return of ALL AMERICAN finds Spencer James (Daniel Ezra), now a football State Champion, with a tough decision to make. Does he stay in Beverly Hills and play for Coach Billy Baker (Taye Diggs)? Or does he move back home to South LA, reunite with his mother, Grace (Karimah Westbrook), brother, Dillon (Jalyn Hall), and play for his father, Corey (Chad Coleman) – the new head coach for the South Crenshaw Chargers? This isn’t an easy decision for him to make because it’s not just about football. It’s about choosing between the people he loves.

No longer is Beverly Hills just some affluent place that represents his shot out of the hood. Now, he has friends there, including his antagonist turned ally, Asher (Cody Christian), who’s fighting to hold on to his football dreams. He has his girlfriend there, Layla (Greta Onieogou), who’s secretly battling her own demons. And most importantly, he has a second family there in the likes of the Bakers – Billy, Laura (Monét Mazur), Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) and Olivia (Samantha Logan) – who are struggling to adapt to the new normal of their broken home.

However, when Spencer’s thrown an unexpected curve ball, the fallout to his life will end up affecting everyone he holds dear, including his best friend, Coop (Bre-Z), who’s trying to take control of her life by stepping back from gangs and pursuing her musical dreams.

BLACK LIGHTNING – Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) is a man with many faces. He is a former Olympic athlete, respected educator and a father of two. He is also Black Lightning, superpowered protector of the fictional city of Freeland with the ability to sense and harness electricity.

Jefferson is not the only one with powers and multiple faces. His oldest daughter, Anissa Pierce (Nafessa Williams) is a medical student, health clinic volunteer and dedicated social activist. She is also the super hero known as Thunder who possesses the ability to drastically increase her density, giving her invulnerability and super strength for as long as she can hold her breath.

Finally, Jefferson’s youngest daughter, Jennifer Pierce (China Anne McClain), is a fiery teen who inherited her father’s athletic gifts but not his desire to be an athlete. Jennifer also inherited super powers. Her body generates pure electrical energy and she possesses the potential to be more powerful than Anissa or Jefferson and is known as Lightning. Lynn Stewart (Christine Adams) is Jefferson’s ex-wife but they are still very much in love in addition to sharing the load as co-parents. She’s also an expert in metahuman medicine.

Together, the Pierce family faces the challenges of a declined urban community, including a menacing gang that calls itself The 100 and infamous gangster, Tobias Whale (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III). Worse, Freeland has been plagued by government-sponsored experiments and drug trafficking that have created metahumans and addicts while making Freeland a target of a dangerous foreign power, Markovia. Fortunately, the family has allies in their fight, Jefferson’s surrogate father and a former covert superspy, Peter Gambi (James Remar), as well as Jefferson’s friend and neighbor, the committed and scrupulously honest Deputy Police Chief Henderson (Damon Gupton).

THE FLASH – Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police Department. Barry’s life changed forever when the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark-matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive — The Flash.

After thinking he and his wife Iris West-Allen (Candice Patton) could finally enjoy being newlyweds, they discover their future daughter Nora West-Allen (Jessica Parker Kennedy), who is a speedster known as XS, travelled back in time to heroically fight by her father’s side and stop the one villain The Flash is destined to never defeat, the meta-serial killer Cicada (Chris Klein). The Flash and XS rely on the help of Team Flash, which includes super heroes Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), Ralph Dibny (Hartley Sawyer), master-detective Sherloque Wells (Tom Cavanagh) and The Flash’s adoptive father Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and his girlfriend Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet) to finally stop Cicada, save The Flash’s legacy, and discover the truth about the evil mastermind who’s pulling manipulative strings through time.

ARROW – After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the North China Sea. He returned home to Star City, bent on righting the wrongs done by his family and fighting injustice.

As the Green Arrow, Oliver successfully saved his city with the help of his team including former soldier John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), former protégé Roy Harper (Colton Haynes), street-savvy Rene Ramirez (Rick Gonzalez), metahuman Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy), brilliant inventor Curtis Holt (Echo Kellum) and Earth-2 Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy). In the wake of discovering what his future holds, Oliver will find himself pit against his most challenging battle yet, one that will leave the multiverse hanging in the balance. In Arrow’s final season, Oliver Queen is forced to confront the reality of what it means to be a hero.

RIVERDALE – The third season of RIVERDALE began at the end of summer vacation, with Archie’s trial for a murder he didn’t commit, orchestrated by Hiram Lodge, building to a shattering conclusion — Archie (KJ Apa) being sent to juvenile detention — even as a new threat reared its head in Riverdale: The Gargoyle King. A figure of myth inspired by the role-playing game Gryphons and Gargoyle, the Gargoyle King started claiming sacrificial victims, beginning with Dilton Doiley!

As Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) investigated the deadly game’s origins (with their parents, twenty years earlier), Veronica (Camila Mendes) worked ceaselessly to get Archie out of juvie, where he was forced to bare-knuckle box for survival. She finally succeeded in breaking Archie out, but with Hiram (Mark Consuelos) still gunning for him, our red-headed hero broke up with Veronica and headed out of town with Jughead, seeking asylum with Jughead’s Serpent mom Gladys Jones.

With Archie and Jughead out of the way, Hiram’s criminal takeover of Riverdale continued, with his “candy-making” producing a terrifying side-effect in the students of Riverdale High — inexplicable, stress-provoked seizures — which prompted Hiram’s wife Hermione (Marisol Nichols) to order the town to be quarantined. When the quarantine was lifted, the threats to Riverdale had multiplied. The Gargoyle King was still claiming victims; the cult-like Farm Alice Cooper (Madchen Amick) had joined was indoctrinating new members left and right, including Kevin Keller (Casey Cott); and Hiram and Gladys found themselves vying for control of the town’s drug-trade — with Veronica and her speakeasy, and new beau Reggie Mantle (Charles Melton), caught in the middle.

When a haunted and hunted Archie returns to Riverdale, he finds his beloved town on the brink of collapse. Penelope Blossom has opened a brothel. Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) and her girlfriend Toni Topaz (Vanessa Morgan) have started a gang to challenge the Southside Serpents — the Pretty Poisons. No one is safe, not even kingpin Hiram Lodge, who is shot by none other than new Sheriff FP Jones (Skeet Ulrich)! He survives, barely

And meanwhile, the mysteries surrounding Gryphons and Gargoyles deepen, drawing in all of our characters, including the enigmatic cult-leader Edgar Evernever and his daughter Evelyn. Resident chanteuse Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) leaves town just as the endgame begins: With Veronica and Archie (training to be a boxer) teaming-up to take down Hiram Lodge once and for all, even as Betty exposes the Farm’s horrific truths and Jughead zeroes in on the Gargoyle King’s true identity. With one deadly round of Gryphons and Gargoyles left to play, will Archie, Betty, Veronica, and Jughead survive the night and make it to Senior Year?

NANCY DREW – Nancy Drew (Kennedy McMann) is a brilliant teenaged detective whose sense of self had come from solving mysteries in her hometown of Horseshoe Bay, Maine – until her mother’s untimely death derails Nancy’s college plans. Devastated by her mother’s passing, Nancy swears off crime-solving while crossing off the days until she can re-apply to college. But when a socialite is murdered, Nancy finds herself a prime suspect in the crime, along with a group of other teens present at the scene: Nancy’s nemesis from high school, George Fan (Leah Lewis); a rich girl with a mysterious past, Bess Marvin (Maddison Jaizani); Nancy’s secret boyfriend, Ned “Nick” Nickerson (Tunji Kasim), and amiable burnout Ace (Alex Saxon).

The five of them must team up to clear their own names – encountering emotional entanglements and even more mysteries along the way. Nancy’s reawakening brings her into conflict with her widowed father, Carson Drew (Scott Wolf), who is dating Detective Karen Hart (Alvina August). And, when a supernatural presence begins to haunt Nancy’s investigation, she discovers that the current crime has an astonishing connection to the unsolved murder of a local girl. Whether the ghost is here to help, or hinder Nancy remains to be seen, but one thing’s for sure: Nancy’s going to have to unravel the clues from both the living and the dead to solve the crimes.

SUPERNATURAL – The epic journey of the Winchester brothers come to a close as SUPERNATURAL enters its final season. Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) have battled demons and angels, mythical creatures and monsters, in a seemingly unending quest to save the world. But in the final battle of the show’s 14th season, they face off against God Himself (Rob Benedict), refusing to kill their surrogate nephilim son Jack (Alexander Calvert), and thus bringing about God’s decision to end this reality once and for all…

LEGACIES – Set in the Salvatore Boarding School for the Young and Gifted, LEGACIES tells the story of the next generation of supernatural beings as they learn what it means to be special in a world that may never understand. Typically a school for vampires like MG (Quincy Fouse), werewolves like Rafael (Peyton Alex Smith) and witches like twins Lizzie (Jenny Boyd) and Josie Saltzman (Kaylee Bryant), the kids and their beloved headmaster Dr. Alaric Saltzman (Matthew Davis) were stunned to come face to face with a series of monsters and creatures they had only ever heard of in myth and lore. A dragon. A gargoyle. The Headless Horseman. The evil behind the real-life resurrection of these formerly fictional beings proved to have a horrifying connection to the school’s newest student, Landon Kirby (Aria Shahghasemi.). This led his first and only love Hope Mikaelson (Danielle Rose Russell), the school’s shining star, to sacrifice her place at the school — and in the world — to protect Landon from a terrible fate.

The new season will show us a world without Hope Mikaelson and all the chaos that goes along with it. All the while, Hope will be trying to find her way back to the school she has learned to call home and the friends she has learned to love like family. It will be filled with new monsters and more romantic and emotional surprises than ever.

CHARMED – Demons, ghosts, vampires, necromancers – none stood a chance against the bonds of sisterhood. After the murder of their mother Marisol, sisters Mel (Melonie Diaz) and Maggie Vera (Sarah Jeffery) discovered they not only had an older half-sister – the brilliant geneticist Macy (Madeleine Mantock) – but that with the “Power of Three,” they are among the most formidable witches in the world.

Having accepted their new destiny as The Charmed Ones, they joined forces with “Whitelighter” witch advisor Harry Greenwood (Rupert Evans) to stop the impending apocalypse. But saving the world is a tall order, especially when you’re not even sure what your place is in that world. Yes, Mel can stop time with the wave of a hand, but she can’t keep her girlfriend Niko safe – and is forced to rewrite history so the two never met. Yes, Maggie can read minds, but she couldn’t tell that new boyfriend Parker was a half-demon tasked with stealing her and her sisters’ powers. And, sure, Macy can move objects with her mind, but she still reels from being abandoned as a child by her mother.

As if that wasn’t enough, Macy, it turns out, isn’t the “half-sister” after all – Mel is – causing identity crises for both Mel and Maggie. In the end, the Charmed Ones defeated demons (both personal and actual), prevented the apocalypse, and saved countless Hilltowne innocents…thanks to Macy absorbing “The Source,” the ultimate power that fuels all magic. The sisters and Harry are battle-scarred but stronger than ever and hoping that life will be a bit simpler now that disaster has been averted. But is life for the Charmed Ones ever simple?

Season one ends with their family relationships intact but their romantic lives in flux…. Macy is mourning a lost love just as Harry’s feelings towards her surface. Maggie and Mel both face uncertain romantic prospects. And with The Elders now dead, the magical community turns to the powerful sisters for guidance. Seems the Vera-Vaughn sisters are now in charge. And this New World Order will be even more complicated than anything they ever imagined.

DYNASTY – As DYNASTY hurtles into its explosive third season, the Carrington family will face the unknown on all fronts. Dealing with the fallout from the startling second season finale, Fallon (Elizabeth Gillies) is surrounded by a host of rivals looking to destroy her, the most wicked of which is her own brother, Adam (Sam Underwood), who takes the idea of “sibling rivalry” to a whole new level of crazy.

At the same time, Fallon and Liam (Adam Huber) attempt to keep their romance sane, but secrets and skeletons from her closet will make that more difficult than ever. And after a year of “me” time, Blake (Grant Show) will jump back in the game, ruthlessly determined to reclaim what’s rightfully his: the family company Fallon sold out from under him. Only problem is that the newest Colby in town, Blake’s half-sister Dominique (Michael Michele), is here to stay and she isn’t backing down from a fight over what’s rightfully hers, either.

Meanwhile, Sammy Jo (Rafael De La Fuente) enters an exhilarating phase of the upper-class life, but amongst the thrills of his newfound freedom, there will be dangers lurking. Plus, who knows what faces – new and old, friendly and unfriendly – will pop up! The road ahead is full of the shocking twists and turns you’ve come to expect from the Carrington world. And if we know anything by this point in the series, it’s that our fractured family will have to find a way to come together if they are to claw their way back to the top of the billionaire mountain.

KATY KEENE – A RIVERDALE spinoff, KATY KEENE follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp), and “It Girl” Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) — as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City…together.

Katy designs clothes for anyone she can, including her friend and roommate Josie, whose singing talent catches the attention of Alexander Cabot (Lucien Laviscount), a CEO who hopes to reboot the record label division of his father’s corporate empire. But Alexander’s dream of signing Josie to a recording contract meets resistance from Cabot Media’s powerful senior vice president Alexandra (Camille Hyde), who also happens to be his twin sister.

Josie and Katy’s roommate Jorge works at his family’s bodega and has his eye on Broadway, but after a series of rejections, he hopes to take his drag performance career as Ginger to the next level. The mysterious Pepper Smith plans to open her own version of Andy Warhol’s Factory. She has the connections, but no one seems to know where she got her money — or if she really has any at all.

Katy struggles to manage the pressures of her day job at Lacy’s Department Store and her very demanding boss, Gloria (Katherine LaNasa), who is a legendary personal shopper. But Katy has the support of her longtime boyfriend, KO Kelly (Zane Holtz), who has his own dream of becoming a professional boxer. As these aspiring artists take on the runway, the recording studio, Broadway, and the NYC social scene, they will find more than just a career in the big city — they’ll find long-lasting friendship.

DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW – As we reach the conclusion of season four, a demon named Neron has possessed the body of Ray Palmer (Brandon Routh), leaving John Constantine (Matt Ryan) to wrest Ray’s soul from the hands of Astra Logue (Olivia Swann), the “innocent girl” he failed to rescue from Hell years all those long years ago.

Meanwhile, up in our world, Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and her girlfriend Ava Sharpe (Jes Macallan) must deal with a magical creature-fueled paranoia. Harvesting souls via an insidious Palmer Tech app, Neron is poised to “Make Earth Hell Again.” To make matters worse, Sara’s Timeship has been turned into a Noah’s Ark for various unruly monsters and magical creatures. Oh, and Ava’s Time Bureau was taken over by an evil Fairy Godmother. To defeat Neron, the Legends realize in the end that they will have to sacrifice one of their own. But it gets way worse…

In attempting to change her future, Zari Tomaz (Tala Ashe) will accidentally change not just the past she shared with Nate Heywood (Nick Zano), but fundamentally change who the Legends are in season five. Can our team go back to who they were next season? Can a reformed arsonist turned romance novelist Mick Rory (Dominic Purcell), a half-werewolf named Mona Wu (Ramona Young), and a punk rocker shapeshifter named Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) stop the literal Hell that Astra unleashes on the world in the finale? And what happens when the Legends awaken the original guardians of Time (no, not the Time Masters, sillies, that was season one!) who wish to erase everything the Legends have “screwed up for the better” over the past four seasons?

IN THE DARK – Murphy (Perry Mattfeld) is a hard-living, hard-drinking, disaffected twenty-something with a penchant for casual sex. She also happens to be blind. She spends the majority of her time in a one block radius that includes her apartment, a local bar, and a convenience store where she buys tampons and candy bars.

Murphy lives with her roommate Jess (Brooke Markham) and her guide dog Pretzel, whom she reluctantly has come to love. Her closest friend is a teenager named Tyson (Thamela Mpumlwana) who she befriends after he saved her from a violent mugging. But her life comes crashing down when she stumbles upon what she’s sure is his lifeless body in the alley outside her apartment. But by the time the police arrive, there is no body to be found, leaving everyone around Murphy to question her. But Murphy is determined to find the truth, which opens up her world far beyond the comforts of her block.

ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO – Once again, an Ortecho sister with a sharp tongue and a chip on her shoulder is back in Roswell after ten years gone… and she’s about to discover she’s been serving mint chip milkshakes to intergalactic aliens all her life. In the final moments of season one, Max Evans (Nathan Dean Parsons) used his alien powers to resurrect Rosa (Amber Midthunder) a decade after her murder… not realizing that he was sacrificing his own life in the process.

In season two, Liz (Jeanine Mason) mourns her lost love by seeking comfort in science, both earthly and extraterrestrial, as Rosa turns to Kyle (Michael Trevino) to help her find her place in the unfamiliar territory of 2019. In their grief, Isobel (Lily Cowles) explores potentially dangerous methods of self-defense, and Michael (Michael Vlamis) spirals into some old bad habits, putting his relationships with Maria (Heather Hemmens) and Alex (Tyler Blackburn) at risk.

Finally, our heroes must make a deal with Jesse Manes (Trevor St. John) for information after a friend seems to vanish into thin air… and the apparent “alien abduction” brings new small-town secrets to light.

THE 100 – For five seasons our heroes did whatever it took to survive on Earth…and nothing worked. Earth was unsurvivable, lost to them forever. What was not lost: hope. After 125 years in cryosleep, traveling through the stars, our heroes woke up to a new home, a final gift from dearly-departed friends. A place where they can try again. They’re given one simple task: do better. Be the good guys.

With this credo in mind Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Bellamy (Bob Morley) lead a group down to this mysterious world, hoping to start anew, to finally find peace. But old habits die hard and when they stumble across an idyllic society, it quickly becomes clear that not everything on Sanctum is as perfect as it seems. Despite their determination to do better, threats both seen and unseen will once again force our heroes to fight for their lives and the future of humanity.

‘The Flash’ Season 5 Episode 22 Recap: “Legacy”

The Flash Season 5 Episode 22

“I always wanted to be a hero, to use my extraordinary abilities to help people. That’s why I came here, to meet my family, stop Cicada, help fix The Flash’s legacy and save him from disappearing in the future. I believed I could do the impossible, but I never imagined it would turn out like this,” says Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) in a voice-over as season five episode 22 of The CW’s The Flash begins.

Picking up right where episode 21 left off, The Flash (Grant Gustin) shoots the mirror gun at Cicada’s dagger to destroy it. Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) shouts, “Don’t shoot it!” but not in time to get Barry to stop. Ralph has to use his powers to stretch in front of the shot and take the hit. His body contorts into a weird shape and he passes out. Cicada II grabs the dagger and flies off.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Team Flash tries to figure out why Ralph would stop Barry from destroying the dagger. Barry tells an upset Nora that Ralph must have had a good reason. He asks Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) how Ralph’s doing and she tells the team his cells are inverted. She doesn’t know how to fix him.

Sherloque (Tom Cavanagh) heads off, whispering, “Why indeed?” determined to figure out Ralph’s motivation behind stopping the destruction of the dagger. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) receives a page from his girlfriend and admits to Caitlin he hasn’t told her yet about having powers. Caitlin tells Cisco if he wants a real relationship, he needs to tell her.

Barry and Nora go to the CCPD to try and track Cicada II. While investigating where Cicada II crashed into the CCPD, Barry finds a small piece of wood.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Sherloque informs the team he’s figured out why Ralph did what he did by going through his notes and that it’s Cicada’s dagger in the future that’s keeping the Reverse Flash in prison. The team now has a dilemma: do they stop Cicada II and destroy the dagger thus letting Thawne free in the future or do they stop Thawne?

Cut to 2049 and a guard puts the Reverse Flash ring from The Flash museum on Thawne, saying it’s a departing gift.

At her cabin in the woods, Cicada II is talking to her uncle about fixing the time sphere to use it to go back and stop the particle accelerator explosion, hence erasing all metas.

Once again to S.T.A.R. Labs and Nora’s upset Thawne was manipulating her for his own selfish reasons and hasn’t changed at all. (Really, hasn’t Barry been saying this all season?!) Nora sulks and Barry tells the team they’re not going to let Cicada II kill all the metas. They’ll stop her and will deal with Thawne later. Everyone agrees.

Cisco meets with Camilla and reveals that he’s Vibe and is the one who came up with the meta-cure. He apologizes for not telling her sooner and starts to leave, thinking they’re over. Camilla tells him to wait and shocks him by saying she understands why he didn’t tell her early on. (She’s read a few comic books and knows how the whole superhero thing goes.) She also tells him she would never stand in the way of him being Vibe.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Sherloque and Caitlin are trying to figure out a way to fix Ralph when Cisco returns and Sherloque suggests Cisco blasts him to activate his muscle memory. Cisco does it and, yes, Ralph’s awake and back to his old self…except his language skills are jumbled.

Barry has a talk with his daughter, telling her she’s a lot like him. She’s trusting and always blames herself when things go wrong. She asks how she can fix it and he admits she might not be able to. She made a mistake and sometimes all someone can do is live with the consequences. He gives her the speech Jay Garrick gave him in season three, asking what type of hero she’s going to be: one who takes a “do-over” after every mistake or one who lives with it and moves forward?

A little while later Team Flash has tracked Cicada II, using the wood Barry found, to the large wooded area just outside of Central City. Nora believes she has a plan to stop both Cicada II and Thawne.

Nora, The Flash, Killer Frost, Joe (Jesse L. Martin), and Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) track through the forest to find Cicada II’s cabin. She shows up ready to try to kill them but…surprise!…it’s a trap. Joe uses the breach device to send Cicada II to S.T.A.R. Labs and trap her in the speed trap they used against Thawne in season one.

While Cicada II keeps using her dagger and powers to weaken the force shield, Nora enters the cabin and uses Caitlin’s mind device to enter into young Grace’s mind. She tells Grace she needs to take the cure because she’s a meta and when she grows up, she becomes a killer. Grace doesn’t want to believe it, and remembers her uncle telling her not to listen. However, a new image of her uncle appears assuring her Nora’s telling the truth and to take the cure.

Grace is confused and doesn’t want to believe she’s a meta. Nora keeps talking to her, telling her deep down she knows it’s true and that if she doesn’t take it her older self from the future will kill thousands of innocent people. Grace says she doesn’t want to grow up a killer and agrees to take the cure.

Cicada II is successful at destroying the force field around her and flies back to the cabin.

Grace takes the cure but since she still has a small piece of debris from the satellite in her head, it’s enough dark matter to stop the cure from working. Cicada II bursts into the cabin and blasts Joe and Killer Frost with her powers. She then uses her power-dampening on The Flash and Nora.

She slides Nora over to her and raises the dagger above her head. “You took my family away from me. Now watch as I take yours away from you!” says Cicada II to a helpless The Flash. A breach opens and the mirror gun comes out of it and right into The Flash’s hand. He quickly shoots it at the dagger, destroying it.

Seconds later, Cicada II turns to ash and is no more.

Cut to 2049 and the dagger disappears from Thawne’s chest. He says, “Just in time,” eyes glowing red. Thawne speeds around killing the guards and leaving the main guard, who enjoyed inflicting pain on him, for last.

He puts the ring on and his old Reverse Flash suit comes out. “Consider this a departing gift,” Thawne says to the guard as his Reverse Flash vibrating hand punches him in the chest, killing him. Suddenly, time goes backwards immediately after Thawne got his powers back and the guards are alive. The Flash and XS speed the guards to safety and then return to face Thawne.

“Well, well, it appears someone has figured out how to reverse time…clever girl,” says Thawne. Barry and Nora tell Thawne they figured out why he trained Nora and had her punch the satellite, to make sure to create a Cicada they could stop and to be sure to destroy the dagger. “You’re leaving out the most delightful part..how you both help me escape,” says Thawne.

He reveals that when they time-traveled to the time vault to get his help to drain dark energy from the killer, Nora blurted out his name. Years later when Thawne had the dagger strapped to his chest, he knew what he had to do – get Nora to trust him. Thawne boasts to them that he’s the only speedster who knows how to manipulate the timeline to get what he wants.

Thawne speeds out with The Flash and XS chasing him. He splits himself in two and leads The Flash and XS on two different chases in which they eventually collide into each other.

Thawne’s enjoying the moment when the time sphere comes out of a breach and crashes into him. When he gets up he sees full Team Flash ready to take him on. “This is nice, Team Flash back together again,” says Thawne. He greets them all, welcoming Dibney to the team, acknowledging Frost who responds by her eyes lighting up even bluer, brighter, and angrier, and Cisco.

“It warms my heart to see you again,” says the evil speedster who apologizes for vibrating punching Cisco in another timeline but says if he hadn’t done it, Cisco wouldn’t become extraordinary. “I don’t need powers for that,” replies Vibe.

Thawne super-speeds at them but Vibe keeps opening breaches. sending the Reverse Flash into them. When he comes out, he’s hit by Killer Frost’s cold blasts, Dibney’s elastic punches, and two super-speed punches from The Flash and XS. Beaten. Thawne slowly gets up only to find XS holding him by his throat, eyes glowing red. “It’s not my father’s legacy to disappear, Thawne, it’s yours,” says Nora, ready to vibrate power-punch him.

“NORA!” yells Iris (Candice Patton) and Barry. She stops. “So close, little runner,” says Thawne. Nora’s hands start to light up and Nora becomes afraid. Thawne explains a new timeline is setting in that Team Flash created when they destroyed the dagger.

“I’m sorry, little runner, trading you in like this, but I had to be sure that I could go free,” says Thawne. Barry speeds over and starts to choke Thawne. “You can still save her, Barry,” says Thawne.

He tells Barry to take Nora into the Negative Speed Force; it’s the only place immune to timeline changes. Thawne tells him to go now or they’ll lose her forever. He admits he’s grown fond of her and in a way she has shown him what it would be like to have a daughter. “See you in our next crisis,” says Thawne before speeding away.

Barry and Nora speed off into the Negative Speed Force but Nora, whose eyes are turning red, says she can’t do this. She speeds back to Team Flash and Iris and Barry plead with her to go into the Negative Speed Force. Nora tells them if she goes in it will become a part of her forever.

An emotional Nora tells a distraught Iris she can’t save her. She won’t become like Thawne – full of hate and anger. She takes responsibility for her mistake in trusting Thawne and quotes Barry’s speech back to him about living with the consequences. Barry, Nora, and Iris hug each other as Nora tells them it’s okay. She lights up and starts to erase from existence. “Thank you for everything” are Nora’s final words to her parents.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Team Flash grieve over Nora. Joe says they have to believe they’ll see her again. Barry says Nora made sure they didn’t lose everything; Ralph says she saved every meta in the city and Caitlin points out that Nora gave young Grace a new start in life. Sherloque chimes in saying she helped him find his true love, Renee Adler. Sherloque says goodbye to Team Flash and heads back to his Earth. Joe gets buzzed by Singh and tells Barry and Cecile they’re needed at CCPD. As they leave, Cisco and Caitlin go into the med bay.

Caitlin asks Cisco if he’s okay and he tells her that what Thawne said he doesn’t want. He thought Vibe was the person he was supposed to be, but he thinks it’s time that
Cisco gets his turn. He wants to take the meta-human cure.

Caitlin, a little surprised and upset, asks if he’s sure because once he does this there’s no going back. He confirms he realizes it’s permanent and hands her the device to give him the cure. With tears forming in her eyes, Caitlin says, “Killer Frost and I are really going to miss Vibe.” She administers the cure to Cisco. She asks how he feels and he says, “Scared but I’m hopeful.” Before he leaves he tells her he left her something in the workshop and that it’s his way of saying thanks for being a great friend.

Over at the CCPD, Singh reveals he’s been promoted to Chief of Police and that he’s promoting Joe to replace him as Captain. He also says that if things get tough he knows The Flash will be close by. He looks at Barry, acknowledging he’s known for some time Barry is The Flash.

Barry and Iris are in the time vault talking about Nora when Barry finds a small flash drive. It’s a recorded message from Nora in case things went bad; the speech that played in the beginning of the episode. As she pours her heart out to her parents, the show cuts to a scene of Joe at his new desk at the CCPD, Cisco walking with Camilla, smiling, Ralph at his P.I. office looking at a new case folder labeled Deardon, and Caitlin finding what looks to be a new suit for Killer Frost from Cisco.

“I wouldn’t change anything about my time with you, my sweet parents.” Nora closes telling them to remember she loves them both and always will no matter what the future brings. The scene fades to black.

The final scene is in the empty dark time vault which suddenly lights up. Gideon says, “Incoming Time flux.” The newspaper article about The Flash vanishing during the crisis comes up on screen but the date changes from 2024 to 2019.

The Flash Season 5 Episode 22 – The Season Finale Review:

Full of action and heartbreak, episode 22 titled “Legacy” ends season five with perhaps the saddest loss the team has ever experienced. Nora is gone, erased from the timeline because she trusted her father’s worst enemy, Eobard Thawne. However, she went out a hero, sacrificing herself to stay Barry’s daughter and not become an evil speedster like Thawne.

On another sad note, Cisco gives up his powers and identity as Vibe to try and have a normal life. He says what sounds like a final goodbye to his best friend Caitlin and possibly Team Flash. (It had been rumored for months that Carlos Valdes wanted to leave the show at the end of season five). If this is truly Valdes’ exit from the series, it will hurt the dynamic and chemistry of the cast and the show. Here’s hoping he returns.

The cast delivered some strong performances and the action scenes were exciting, but hands-down the best performance was given by Tom Cavanagh as the Reverse Flash. It’s his scenes with Grant as The Flash and Kennedy as Nora that sizzle with tension and suspense. His incredible portrayal of Thawne is one of the key elements that made the first season the best season of the show.

This also feels as though the writers and showrunners are closing the chapter on the early and mid-career of The Flash’s superhero adventures and are getting ready to set up and begin the last few years of The Flash’s heroics.

‘A Violent Separation’ Review: Murder in a Small Town

Gun violence and a police cover-up propel the story in A Violent Separation, a thriller from the filmmaking team of Michael and Kevin Goetz. A Violent Separation explores the consequences of carelessness with a loaded weapon as it affects two families in a small Missouri town.

Ray Young (Ben Robson) is a ne’er do well with a criminal record and a penchant for sleeping around, despite the fact he’s got a serious girlfriend. His brother Norman’s the polar opposite, strait-laced as they come. Norman (Brenton Thwaites) is a clean-cut, baby-faced cop with a limited ability for small talk with the ladies, even ones he’s known his entire life.

Ray’s in a relationship with Abbey Campbell (Claire Holt), a single mom who lives with her ailing dad and younger sister, Frances (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Abbey’s frustrated by Ray’s philandering but not enough so as to actually take any action. Frances, the more level-headed of the two, has a thing for Norman although Norman seems incapable of picking up the clues Frances tosses his way as the story gets underway.

A rowdy night at a roadhouse and bad decisions by each of the main characters leads to Abbey stealing her dad’s gun. Abbey uses some twisted logic to decide letting her cheating boyfriend teach her to shoot is the way to her man’s heart.

Of course, a loaded gun in a car with a couple in the midst of relationship problems isn’t a brilliant idea. Abbey winds up dead, but was it an accident? That question’s not explored as the film focuses on the cover-up of Abbey’s death. Ray talks his brother into going along with a cover-up and leaves poor discarded Abbey to be found after someone spots her car.

Given this is a small town with just a couple of sheriffs, Norman’s brought into the investigation. His intimate knowledge of the crime helps him steer Sheriff Ed Quinn (Ted Levine) away from the killer. Norman, who appears to be the only one of the sets of siblings with an actual job, is also forced to collaborate with his brother on holding Abbey’s sickly dad at bay.

As months pass and the killer remains on the loose, Ray spirals into a pit of despair. Walls begin closing in and relationships are strained to the point of breaking. Ray’s a tinderbox of emotions, racked with guilt and ready to explode from the lies and deceptions. The question is will he take down his loyal brother in the process?

A Violent Separation
Brenton Thwaites and Alycia Debnam-Carey in ‘A Violent Separation’ (Photo Courtesy of Screen Media Films)

Solid acting saves A Violent Separation from being a nearly thrill-less thriller. Brenton Thwaites (Titans, Gods of Egypt) and Ben Robson (Animal Kingdom, Vikings) have solid chemistry as diametrically opposed siblings. Ray’s a stereotypical bad boy, complete with long hair and a drinking problem, and his range of emotions ping-pongs between anger and despair for much of the film. Robson does a terrific job of displaying Ray’s inner turmoil as he sinks deeper into a state of depression.

Thwaites’ Norman isn’t quite so meaty. His strong moral compass is smashed when he chooses loyalty over the law, but seldom is the battle he must be waging evident on screen.

Claire Holt (The Originals) is gone far too soon from the drama. Once Abbey’s killed off it’s as if the character was inconsequential as anything other than a murder victim. Don’t expect to learn anything about her as a person other than how she died.

The standout performance of A Violent Separation is delivered by Alycia Debnam-Carey (Fear the Walking Dead, The 100). Debnam-Carey’s Frances is the most developed character and, fortunately, the second half of the film follows much of the story from her point of view as she pieces together clues to the identity of her sister’s killer.

Directors Michael and Kevin Goetz opt for a slow build and the second act’s a bit of a slog. It’s only in the third act the pacing heats up as clues that were obvious from the get-go are finally grasped by key players.

A Violent Separation doesn’t address the root cause of the action that drives the film. The focus instead is on a small group of characters as they act and react to the deadly shooting. Unfortunately, other than Debnam-Carey’s Frances, the central characters never feel fully developed and their struggles don’t come across as authentic.

Syfy’s released some key details about the upcoming fourth season of the critically acclaimed vampire series, Van Helsing. Tricia Helfer, fresh off of playing Lucifer Morningstar’s mom in Lucifer, has joined the cast for the upcoming season.

According to Syfy, Nomadic Pictures, and Dynamic Television, Tricia Helfer has signed on to play the most famous vampire of all – Dracula.

“We are thrilled to welcome the talented Tricia Helfer to our Van Helsing family,” stated Chad Oakes, Executive Producer and Co-Chairman of Nomadic Pictures. “She will be a fierce and unstoppable DARK ONE (Dracula)…as the battle between good and evil reaches new heights.”

The 100‘s Richard Harmon, Defiance‘s Nicole Munoz, Jigsaw‘s Keeya King, and pro wrestler Big Show (WWE/Smackdown) are also officially part of the cast of season four. Helfer’s character is the only one that was revealed. Also unknown is how this role will affect Harmon’s status on The 100, if at all.

Season four is currently in production. Van Helsing will return to Syfy’s primetime lineup this fall with a 13 episode season.

The series is led by Kelly Overton in the title role. Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, Neal McDonough, Vincent Gale, Rukiya Bernard and Aleks Paunovic also star in the action horror series.

Nomadic Pictures produces and Jonathan Lloyd Walker (Continuum, Wu Assassins) is the showrunner. Executive producers are Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev from Nomadic Pictures, Dave Brown and Zadoc Angell (Echo Lake Entertainment), and Daniel March (Dynamic Television).

The Van Helsing Plot:

Van Helsing is a total re-imagination of a timeless brand, set in a world dominated and controlled by vampires. Season four continues the story of Vanessa Van Helsing and her band of heroes as they fight to reclaim the world after vampires took over during ‘The Rising’. The series will delve deeper into the iconic lore of the vampires and their ultimate goals for this world. New villains will rise along with unexpected heroes joining the fight.”
