The new trailer for the reboot of Hellboy finds the half-demon up against a sorceress who wants to wipe out humanity. Offered a crown and a chance to rule alongside The Blood Queen who believes they belong together, Hellboy quips, “We do but this is not going to work, you know, because I’m a Capricorn and you’re f**king nuts!”
David Harbour (Stranger Things) leads the cast, starring as the titular character. Harbour’s co-stars in the 2019 rebirth of the comic book-inspired film franchise include Milla Jovovich (the Resident Evil films) as British sorceress Nimue; Ian McShane (American Gods, the John Wick films) as Trevor Bruttenholm, Hellboy’s adoptive father; Daniel Dae Kim (Hawaii Five-0) as Ben Daimio; and Sasha Lane (The Miseducation of Cameron Post) in the role of Alice Monaghan. The cast also includes Thomas Haden Church, Penelope Mitchell, Sophie Okonedo, Brian Gleeson, and Kristina Klebe.
Sons of Anarchy‘s Ron Perlman took on the title role in the 2004 Hellboy and 2008 Hellboy II: The Golden Army films. Both films were directed by Oscar winner Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water). The 2019 reboot has Neil Marshall at the helm. Marshall’s film credits include Doomsday and The Descent.
Director Neil Marshall’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Lorenzo Senatore, editor Martin Bernfeld, production designer Paul Kirby, costume designer, and Stephanie Collie. Benjamin Wallfisch handled the film’s score.
Lionsgate will release Hellboy in theaters on April 12, 2019.
The Plot:
“Hellboy is back, and he’s on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola’s seminal work, this action packed story sees the legendary half-demon superhero (Harbour) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Jovovich), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal.
Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.”
Chloë Grace Moretz and Isabelle Huppert star in ‘Greta’ (Photo by Jonathan Hession / Focus Features)
A lonely elderly woman attempts to make new friends by strategically leaving purses on public transportation in Greta, a thriller from director Neil Jordan (The Good Thief, The Brave One). That bizarre setup leads to an improbable series of events in the R-rated drama opening in theaters on March 1, 2019.
Isabelle Huppert plays the titular character and Chloe Grace Moretz is Frances, the sweet and innocent good samaritan who basically steps into the Twilight Zone when she enters Greta’s life. Poor Frances is still mourning the loss of her mother and adjusting to a move to a Tribeca loft with her best friend Erica (Maika Monroe) when she spots a purse on the subway. Frances, being a kind (and ridiculously naïve) person, personally returns the bag to its owner.
What Frances believes is just a chance meeting turns out to be something much more sinister. Greta’s a scheming, manipulative, and disturbed individual who inserts herself into Frances’ life. Greta’s obsessive personality quickly wears on Frances, and it’s not long before she realizes Greta’s unstable.
Much of what Frances learns in the film’s first act is given away in the trailer, yet Huppert reels us in as she subtly reveals just how deranged Greta is. That something’s off about Greta is evident from the character’s first scene, yet Huppert plays it restrained and gives her a certain dignity that initially disguises the serious mental issues.
Moretz is fine as the wide-eyed victim who’s so desperate for a mother figure that she fails to read the warning signs in this new relationship. Frances is never quite the sympathetic figure she needs to be to make this thriller work. She’s simply not that interesting a foe for Greta.
There are genuinely intense moments in Greta. There are also multiple frustrating scenes in which supporting characters, including cops, act as though the idea of a young woman being stalked is such an alien concept it shouldn’t be taken seriously. There’s one scene in which no one reacts to the presence of a clearly mentally ill Greta invading Frances’ life that’s not only improbable but just plain ridiculous.
Huppert delivers a captivating performance, even as the film’s shift in tone slides toward the absurd. There’s a delicious moment in which Huppert performs a giddy little jig at an entirely inappropriate moment that’s nearly worth the price of a ticket. Huppert’s such an incredible actress that it’s possible to forgive and forget much of the first two acts and just wallow in the craziness of what goes down in act three.

Martin’s The Baby-Sitters Club books have sold over 180 million copies.

FX just released the first trailer for the dramatic series, Fosse/Verdon, starring Sam Rockwell as Bob Fosse and Michelle Williams as Gwen Verdon. The trailer sets up the relationship between the couple while also unveiling some of the choreography featured in the limited series.
Four-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams and Oscar winner Sam Rockwell (Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri) lead a cast that includes Norbert Leo Butz, Aya Cash, Nate Corddry, and Evan Handler. Williams, Rockwell, Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Joel Fields, and George Stelzner serve as executive producers. Gwen Verdon and Bob Fosse’s daughter Nicole is a creative consultant and co-executive producer.
Susan Misner and Andy Blankenbuehler are the limited series’ choreographers. Thomas Kail directed the first episode from a script by Steven Levenson.
Fosse/Verdon will premiere on FX on April 9, 2019 and will air on Tuesdays at 10pm ET/PT.
The Plot Details, Courtesy of FX:
“Spanning five decades, Fosse/Verdon explores the singular romantic and creative partnership between Bob Fosse (Rockwell) and Gwen Verdon (Williams). He is a visionary filmmaker and one of the theater’s most influential choreographers and directors. She is the greatest Broadway dancer of all time. Only Bob can create the groundbreaking musicals that allow Gwen to showcase her greatness. Only Gwen can realize the unique vision in Bob’s head. Together, they will change the face of American entertainment – at a perilous cost.
As Bob journeys from fledgling Broadway choreographer to lauded auteur of stage and screen, he fuels his manic creativity with drugs, alcohol, and sex, often abusing his celebrity and power to feed his appetites. Meanwhile, Gwen goes from a legendary triple threat, winning four Tony Awards® in six years, to an actress struggling to stay relevant in an industry obsessed with youth and novelty and double standards
Through it all, Gwen plays an instrumental role in Bob’s work, not only as the greatest interpreter of his choreography, but as a largely unrecognized collaborator, even as their marriage unravels in the face of Bob’s increasingly self-destructive tendencies.
Together, Bob and Gwen raise daughter Nicole, who finds herself growing up in the long shadow of her parents’ illustrious careers, caught between her desperation for their approval and her determination to forge an identity of her own.
Bob and Gwen surround themselves with a tight-knit coterie of fellow artists, friends, collaborators, and rivals: the brilliantly acerbic playwright and screenwriter Paddy Chayefsky (Butz); former modern dancer turned homemaker Joan Simon (Cash); Joan’s husband, the comedic genius, playwright Neil Simon (Corddry); and legendary theater producer and director Hal Prince (Handler).
Eventually, as Bob and Gwen’s marriage reaches the breaking point, Bob will forge a connection with Ann Reinking (Margaret Qualley), an up-and-coming Broadway dancer who has all the talent and tenacity of a young Gwen Verdon. She hopes to follow in Gwen’s footsteps, but may not have the stomach to put up with everything Bob demands.
Featuring show-stopping choreography, including original pieces as well as some of the most iconic works of Bob and Gwen’s careers, Fosse/Verdon will tell the story of these two brilliant, complicated individuals – the love they shared, the art they created, and the price they paid in the pursuit of greatness.”

Angela Griffin, Guz Khan, Jocelyn Jee Esein, Jade Anouka, Cameron King, and Dustin Demri-Burns appear as recurring guest stars. The Plot and Characters:
Turn Up Charlie centers on the titular Charlie (Elba), a struggling DJ and eternal bachelor, who is given a final chance at success when he reluctantly becomes a ‘manny’ to his famous best friend’s problem-child daughter, Gabby (Hervey).
Sara (Perabo) is a super star DJ, feminist icon and vivacious trendsetter, who has chosen to abandon the chaotic and exciting life she lived in America, to put roots down in London in an attempt to give her badly behaved daughter more stability and normality.
Charming and charismatic, Hollywood actor David (Feild) is adored by both fans and friends. A North London boy done good, David is ambitious and hardworking, but his return to his hometown brings new opportunities and uncertainties in equal measure.
Spoiled and savvy, Gabrielle is wise beyond her years. Neglected by her career driven parents, Gabrielle pushes the boundaries – and the sanity of her nannies – to the extreme, in order to get her mum and dad’s attention. Her spiky retorts, mischievous adventures and epic tantrums hide a lonely young girl with a distorted view of reality.

Author/executive producer Neil Gaiman and American Gods star Ricky Whittle were paired up for roundtable interviews at the New York Comic Con. Gaiman and Whittle are Comic Con veterans and when asked to compare their experience at the San Diego Comic Con prior to season one to the New York reception, Gaiman said it’s obvious the excitement level of fans has dramatically increased since the first season aired. He also joked that what fans have said they really want during the season two promotional tour is more shirtless Ricky Whittle, preferably covered in blood.
“I do bleeding and topless well,” joked Ricky Whittle. “I appreciate that.”
“It is a different kind of feeling. Now the first question you ask yourself is will they come? The next question is will they stay? And what I love is I don’t get the sense that anybody’s going away. I barely get the sense that anyone’s checking their watches. Everybody now is going, ‘Yeah, there’s an awful lot of TV to watch. It’s fine. We are looking forward to American Gods arriving,’” explained Neil Gaiman about the wait for season two.
He added, “We have an audience now around the world. This is Amazon’s biggest international hit around the world and is a huge hit for Starz in the U.S. So, it’s a lot to live up to and a lot to get right. There’s a lot of moving parts.”
Season two of American Gods premieres on Starz on March 10, 2019.
Do you feel that pressure to live up to expectations, given the first season?
Neil Gaiman: “You know the great thing about being me is…”
Ricky Whittle: (Laughing) “There’s so many, by the way.”
Neil Gaiman: “My role, I describe it occasionally on American Gods as being parental, but it’s much more like being a father in that I get to have intense moments of pleasure and then I disappear off and everybody else gets to do all the work for many, many months. And then they show me what they brought forth and I go, ‘Yes, I am proud of this thing.’”
Ricky Whittle: “We refer to him as the ‘Gods’father. And it is like, ‘Look what we did, daddy,’ and he goes, ‘That’s okay. Do better than that. That’s fantastic. Well done, do it again.’”
Neil Gaiman: “There’s a lot of that. With the last season there was just the madness of the fact that I was really trying to work on Good Omens, working six or occasionally seven-day weeks, 10 to 15-hour days meant that there were only chunks of time I could devote to American Gods. I got together with Jesse (Alexander), the last showrunner, and just briefed him, downloaded, talked him through the season and where things needed to go. Then helped him with episode one and helped him get things rolling before disappearing back into Good Omens. Then it started easing up a bit in April (2018). I got to start working with the writers on episode six and seven and eight, on getting those right. I’m looking forward in future seasons to being there a lot more. But then again, I’m not going to be a full-time showrunner on anything so it should be a lot easier.
But it’s a huge responsibility. It’s a big responsibility to the book, it’s a responsibility to the actors, and it’s a responsibility to the audience. But if you let yourself think about the audience, you go mad. You just think about your responsibility to the cast and to the crew, and to the story.”
You’re working on the American Gods sequel. Is that something you plan on adapting and will it have something to do with the series?
Neil Gaiman: “I figure that what I’m hoping to do with American Gods the sequel is that there are hooks built into American Gods that the sequel clips onto. Some of them are big and obvious and some of them are almost invisible and only I know where they are. So, when we started the process with Bryan (Fuller) and Michael (Green), I explained to them where the clips were and the shape of the sequel and how it was going to begin and where things needed to hook onto.
Sitting down with Jesse, again, there was an, ‘Okay, these are the things we need to make sure. You can’t lose this thing. You can’t lose this thing. This thing may seem tiny but it’s going to have important events down the line.’
So, hopefully, at the point where we get to…if we make it through five seasons and we get to finish the book and then we’ve done the stories of Shadow in the UK, I can get to roll up my sleeves and get to the story of Shadow’s return to the U.S. That’s a long way down the line.”
Is that something you’re looking forward to doing?
Ricky Whittle: (Laughing) “Shadow will be 55. No, I’m massively looking forward to it. I’ve sat around the table at meetings and I’ve four days left of season two to shoot and I’m already looking forward to season three. It’s my favorite part of the book and I don’t want to just brush season two under the table, but I’ve lived it for the last so many months and I’m excited for the audience to catch up with me and see what we’ve done. But this is coming up to my favorite part of the book, and then moving on Neil has come up with so many other prophesies that we can delve into.
The way that the stories have all kind of evolved, we can progress this story too. So, the book was set to be four or five seasons long, we can do six, seven…because I love working with Neil. I love working with this cast. The crew in Toronto’s amazing. It’s a lot of fun.
The great thing about Shadow Moon is I work backwards. I know where I want him to go and what I want him to become, so I worked backwards to this empty shell void of feeling and emotions. So now I just get to just to layer him. Every season I get to add more colors until he becomes whatever we decide to do in the future.
Long may this show continue and I get to show the many colors of Shadow Moon.”

What are fans telling you that they connect to most with Shadow Moon?
Ricky Whittle: “With Shadow? They love his hope, for some reason. A lot happens to Shadow Moon in a negative aspect and he continues to get up and keep moving forward.
Something that fans really reached out to me with was how it inspired them, which I felt was really heartwarming that they felt if Shadow Moon can get up after a night like he’s just had, I can get on with my day. It’s fine. I’ll go to work and deal with whatever I have to deal with or whatever space they’d be – be it a work space, be it the playground, be it at home. Wherever it is. Because he does constantly get beat down and he constantly gets back up. He constantly believes it will be okay. Even the troubles with Laura – he doesn’t just shun that. He wants answers. He wants to talk things out. He wants to find out what’s going on. He wants to find out what’s going on with Wednesday and all these gods.
It’s really inspirational that a character where so much negative stuff happens to him can actually provide hope for people. They see that inner strength that he has, that light that he kind of carries within him, and hopefully that light can kind of be passed on to the audience. That’s what you want to do. You want to inspire audiences to better themselves, become better versions of themselves, and to enjoy their own lives and see that it could be worse. You could be strung up into a tree by several faceless goons and a crazy vape-smoking teenager.”
Isn’t that just a normal Saturday for you?
Ricky Whittle: “It’s a Tuesday in California, basically.”
How has life changed for you since American Gods began?
Ricky Whittle: “Life hasn’t changed much because I’m always positive and I love life. The only thing that’s changed is I now get to work with my idols that I watched on TV. Neil called me up one day and (talking to Neil) you don’t know this. I’m geeking out. He called me up and I was speechless. I pointed at the phone as if to say, ‘It’s Neil,’ but no one’s here to see this. Damn it! So, yeah, I get to work with him and Orlando Jones, various people that I grew up with. Ian McShane. He’s Lovejoy to me. I grew up and my grandma, bless her soul, she would have lost her mind. If she would have known I was working with Ian McShane, oh my goodness. She loves him way more than me.
The only thing that’s changed is I get to work with my idols that I grew up with.”

The good news Brooklyn Nine-Nine fans have been anxiously waiting to hear has arrived. NBC breathed new life into the half-hour comedy after it was cancelled by Fox, and now it’s confirmed the first NBC season (season six overall) won’t be a one-and-done thing. Brooklyn Nine-Nine has been renewed for season seven which will air during the 2019-2020 season.
According to the network, season six has been averaging 3.9 million viewers. That’s a million more viewers than it averaged when season five aired on Fox.
The award-winning comedy was created by writers Dan Goor and Michael Schur. Goor, Schur, David Miner, and Luke Del Tredici serve as executive producers.
“It’s been one of our great joys as a network to give Brooklyn Nine-Nine a second life,” stated Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. “Cheers to Dan Goor, Mike Schur, Luke Del Tredici and David Miner, and our amazing cast and crew who each week turn New York’s finest into New York’s funniest.”
Season six airs on Thursdays at 9pm ET/PT.
The Season Six Plot:
“As the sixth season begins, Brooklyn Nine-Nine continues to follow the exploits of hilarious Det. Jake Peralta (Andy Samberg), his diverse, lovable colleagues and their more-serious-than-a-hunk-of-actual-granite boss, Capt. Holt (Andre Braugher), as they police the NYPD’s 99th precinct. The new season will also dive into the marital life of Jake and his new bride, the extremely type-A Sgt. Amy Santiago (Melissa Fumero), who were married in the season five finale.
Rounding out the ensemble are Holt’s next-in-command, Sgt. Terry Jeffords (Terry Crews), a muscle-bound human mountain who loves nothing more than his three little daughters, except for a fresh carton of full-fat yogurt. The man loves yogurt. Jake’s fellow detectives include his best friend and human puppy dog, Det. Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio), and the incredibly secretive, tough-as-nails Det. Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz). Holt’s civilian assistant is Gina Linetti (Chelsea Peretti), the living embodiment of the “100” emoji. Also part of the Nine-Nine are veteran officers Det. Scully (Joel McKinnon Miller) and Det. Hitchcock (Dirk Blocker), whose only skill as police officers is their ability to make a passable pot of coffee.”
