Celebs and Fans Alike Enjoy Each Other’s Company at Motor City Comic Con

It’s official: This year’s Motor City Comic Con was a resounding success. To reiterate this: Many media guests – whether they’ve attended Motor City before like William Zabka (Cobra Kai) and Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager), or are new to Motor City and conventions themselves like Jenna Elfman (Fear the Walking Dead), Tom Welling (Smallville, Lucifer), Wallace Shawn (The Princess Bride), and Cress Williams (Black Lightning) – enjoyed the warm welcome from fans during the 3-day event that ran May 18-20 in Novi, MI (a suburb located within the Metro Detroit area).

“It’s actually been quite moving,” said Elfman. “I’m having some amazing conversations with fans, hearing their stories and their reasons why they’ve come up to say hi, their personal experiences whether it’s (Fear) or Dharma & Greg – it’s so lovely and so touching that it’s making it a really special trip. It’s really fun. The energy and the sincerity of the fans is blowing me away – and it’s giving me a lot of energy. That’s really cool.”

Motor City marked the second convention appearance ever for Elfman, best known as free-spirited Dharma on the sitcom Dharma & Greg. She joined the cast of FearThe Walking Dead spinoff series – this season as Naomi.

“I love being remembered for Dharma & Greg. It was a very important experience for me,” said Elfman. “It affected fans greatly. There was so much joy that character brought and it made people feel good. That’s an honor to be remembered for something that had such an effect on people – I love it.”

This was Welling’s first appearance at Motor City and his fourth convention appearance overall. He and Smallville co-star Michael Rosenbaum – who got him into conventions – brought the house down at their panel.

“Fans want to see you, they’re all happy to see you. Everybody’s really cool — they’re a blast!” said Welling. “I’m meeting people who are basically responsible for allowing me being able to do what I do. I tell them, ‘We wouldn’t even be up here if you didn’t watch us doing what we’re doing.’ That’s the truth. I can’t wait to meet them and shake their hands. It’s just a good time.”

Like Welling, this was Williams’ first time at Motor City and his fourth convention to date. The Black Lightning star called his time in Detroit a “family affair” as he was joined by his on-screen daughters China Anne McClain and Nafessa Williams (it was their first time at Motor City as well).

“It’s good to be here,” said Williams. “It’s been really cool. I feel like this is one of the biggest (cons) – if not the biggest – I’ve done so far. I feel that the treatment has been really good. The fans have been great. I really dig it.”

With the success of Black Panther on the big screen and Black Lightning on the small screen – both of whom are super-heroes of color – Williams saw many young kids dressed as these two characters, stating super-powers transcend race.

“It’s awesome!” he said. “What’s great is that I’ve seen a lot of little kids around here today – kids of color – and that’s gonna be their normal; they’re not gonna feel that they don’t see anyone who represents them on film and television. I want that diversity spread out – not just for African-Americans, but for every race out there.”

This was Jason Patric’s (The Lost Boys) first time at Motor City, too. “It’s been fun. I got here yesterday morning and came right here, so it’s been a whirlwind,” he said. “(The fans) have all been very nice.”

According to Miriam Kruger, the executive director of Motor City, more than 55,000 guests attended throughout the course of the weekend. “(The) 2016 attendance figures for Motor City broke a record at 55,000 and for 2017 and 2018 we have gone just over that number,” she said.

There were more than 40 media guests, 229 comic book guests – including John Cassady (Astonishing X-Men, Captain America), Bill Amend (Fox Trot), Tom Grummett (Superman, Thunderbolts), legendary artist Neal Adams (Batman, X-Men, Avengers), Detroit native/artist Arvell Jones (creator of Marvel character Misty Knight), current Black Panther artist Brian Stelfreeze, Milestone Media co-founder Denys Cowan, et al – 107 exhibitors, 36 crafters from all over the nation, as well as numerous cosplayers.

“Motor City Comic Con 2018 was an outstanding year for both media guests and comic guests, plus the imaginative outfits that our cosplay fans created. The atmosphere was so positive, and families and friends had a great day out,” said Kruger. “Next year will be our 30th anniversary and we are already planning another amazing event.”

These numbers came as quite a surprise to Wang (pronounced “Wong”), who’s attended Motor City twice before.

“I will tell you there’s more people at this Motor City than when I was last here (in 2009). This is crazy! When I was here before, you could do cartwheels on a Saturday without hitting anybody. Now, not so much,” said Wang, gesturing to the crowd of people slowly making their way to get to where they’re going.

Remembering Margot Kidder (1948-2018)

This year’s Motor City did begin on a sad note, however. Margot Kidder, who played Lois Lane in four Superman movies from 1978-87, died May 13. She was scheduled to appear alongside fellow actors from 1978’s Superman – including Jack O’Halloran (Non), Jeff East (teenage Clark Kent), and Aaron Smolinski (baby Clark Kent) – at a panel May 19 called “You’ll Believe a Man Can Fly! Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Superman.” This movie, which starred the late Christopher Reeve in the titular role, is the grandfather of the super-hero movie genre so prevalent today in many ways.

“We are deeply saddened to hear of Margot Kidder’s death. Her spunky, spirited portrayal of Lois Lane in Superman will live on forever in the hearts of millions of people. Ms. Kidder was set to reunite at Motor City Comic Con this weekend with three of her Superman (co-stars) to toast the 40th anniversary of this iconic film. Attendees will be able to visit her booth to honor her memory and celebrate her career,” Kruger said a statement.

At Kidder’s booth, which was turned into a memorial decorated with pink amaryllis (her favorite flower), people paid their respects. They signed a guest book, donated to the Stafford Animal Shelter in Montana (her favorite charity), and also wrote on a poster of Kidder wearing a Superman sweater.

O’Halloran, who appeared in Superman and Superman II, recalled how much Kidder loved meeting fans. “She was chatty and always personable,” he said. “She was quite a lady.”

Hearing from the Fans

Laura Conner attended all three days. She got to meet everyone on her list, including Welling, Rosenbaum, Kirk Acevedo (Fringe, Arrow), Stephen Amell (Arrow), and Summer Glau (Firefly). Like so many other media guests, Acevedo, Amell, and Glau were all new to Motor City this year.

Conner attended their panels and braved lines that ran for longer than an hour to meet her favorite stars, enduring sore knees and aching feet. Still, that was a small price to pay and was worth the wait, especially in the case of Glau and Amell.

“Summer was someone I truly wanted to meet for a very long time. Waiting in line between her panel and when she came back to her booth was very well worth it,” she said. “Stephen was very sweet. He seemed very sorry that people had to wait so long for his autograph. His line actually moved quickly, but he made sure to look everyone in the eye and thanked them for coming. He was there for them, not the other way around. All in all, it was a very nice time.”

Veteran con attendee Janice Miller-Kellerman had a “blast” at this year’s Motor City, attending with her brother Tom Miller and cousin Chris Wrobel. She met many of her favorite stars, including Jerome Flynn of Game of Thrones and Ripper Street fame. When she met Flynn at his booth, Miller suggested a charity idea via crowdfunding called “Where’s My (Expletive) Castle?” Instead of a castle, it’ll be the umbrella organization of 4-5 charities and non-profit foundations that Flynn supports, including Survival International, the Global White Lion Protection Trust, and Campaign Against Canned Hunting. The next day, at his panel, Flynn acknowledged Miller-Kellerman’s idea, pointing to her in an auditorium filled to capacity.

“He had me stand up and everyone clapped for me! This was totally on his own!” said Miller-Kellerman. “I’m in awe! What a moment!”

Netflix announced Oscar nominee Uma Thurman (Pulp Fiction) has committed to a starring role in Chambers. Described as a supernatural drama, Chambers season one will consist of 10 one-hour episodes.

Netflix hasn’t announced the target release date for the series which was created by Leah Rachel. Rachel and Akela Cooper (Grimm, The 100, American Horror Story: Roanoke) are co-showrunning season one. Rachel is also writing the series and will executive produce with Cooper, Stephen Gaghan, Wolfgang Hammer, and Winnie Kemp. (Chambers was developed by Gaghan’s Super Deluxe.)

Thurman’s credits include the starring role in the Kill Bill film series which reunited the Academy Award nominee with her Pulp Fiction director Quentin Tarantino. Thurman’s resume also includes Hysterical Blindness, Dangerous Liaisons, Henry & June, Batman & Robin, 1998’s Les Miserables, Prime, Be Cool, The Producers, and My Super Ex-Girlfriend.

Thurman’s television credits include an arc on Bravo’s Imposters and NBC’s The Slap. In 2012 Thurman was nominated in the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series category at the Emmy’s for her role as Rebecca Duvall in Smash.

Uma Thurman recently completed work on director Rodrigo Cortes’ dramatic fantasy Down a Dark Hall co-starring Isabelle Fuhrman, AnnaSophia Robb, and Rosie Day. She also recently finished shooting the family comedy War with Grandpa directed by Tim Hill (Alvin and the Chipmunks) and co-starring Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Jane Seymour, Colin Ford, and Rob Riggle.

The Chambers Plot: A young heart attack survivor becomes consumed by the mystery surrounding the heart that saved her life. However, the closer she gets to uncovering the truth about her donor’s sudden death, the more she starts taking on the characteristics of the deceased — some of which are troublingly sinister.

Uma Thurman plays the mother of a heart donor who forges a hesitant relationship with the young recipient only to find out her daughter may not be as dead as she thought.

Matthew Rhys, Jamie Dornan and Ann Skelly to Star in ‘Death And Nightingales’

Matthew Rhys is following up a six-season run on The Americans with BBC Two’s Death And Nightingales, based on Eugene McCabe’s novel. Jamie Dornan (the Fifty Shades franchise) and Ann Skelly (Red Rock) are also committed to star in the three-episode hour-long drama which is scheduled to begin shooting this summer in Northern Ireland.

The series is adapted and directed by Allan Cubitt. Cubitt and Dornan previously worked together on the critically acclaimed series, The Fall.

James Mitchell, Tommy Bulfin are executive producing, and Jonathan Cavendish is on board as a producer. The project’s an Imaginarium and Soho Moon production for BBC Two.

“I’ve been a huge fan of Allan Cubitt’s work for many years so I’m thrilled to have been given the chance to work on Death And Nightingales alongside Jamie and Ann and return to the BBC,” said Matthew Rhys.

Jamie Dornan said, “I’m thrilled to be reunited with Allan and his brilliant scripts to play such an intriguing character like Liam Ward and to return to Northern Ireland and BBC Two.”

“Playing such a strong character as Beth Winters is truly an actor’s dream, and a fantastically intense challenge to be given the opportunity to play,” stated Ann Skelly. “And to get to work with such brilliant actors like Matthew and Jamie, and a director like Allan Cubitt, is just surreal to me. I can’t wait to start!”

The Plot: “Based on Eugene McCabe’s modern Irish classic, Death And Nightingales is a riveting story of love, betrayal, deception and revenge, set in the beautiful haunting countryside of Fermanagh in 1885. A place where neighbours observe each other and inform, a world of spies, confessions and double dealing; where a pervading sense of beauty is shot through with menace and impending doom.

Set over a desperately tense 24-hour period, it’s Beth Winters’ (Ann Skelly) 25th birthday – the day she has decided to join the charming Liam Ward (Jamie Dornan) and escape from her limited life and difficult and complex relationship with her Protestant landowner stepfather Billy (Matthew Rhys). As decades of pain and betrayal finally build to a devastating climax, Death And Nightingales is a powerful and gripping drama that follows a woman struggling to control her own destiny and will illuminate tensions that tear both families and nations apart.”

The series is executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Robert Rovner, and Jessica Queller.

Roseanne Barr’s Racist Tweets Lead to Her Show’s Cancellation

Roseanne Barr's show cancelled

Actress Roseanne Barr has lost her television show Roseanne as a result of disgusting racist remarks she made on Twitter about former President Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett. The reaction to Barr’s tweet was swift and overwhelmingly negative, and even fellow Roseanne star Sara Gilbert called Barr out for her despicable statement which Barr later attempted to explain away as a joke.

Barr, after being bombarded with negative comments and likely due to pressure from ABC, finally issued a very basic apology to everyone she offended. However, it was quickly pointed out that she’s made the same type of comments before comparing black women to apes. Barr’s Twitter feed is filled with conspiracy theories and attacks on those who don’t support her political views. Despite those views, ABC had revived her old sitcom and even renewed it for a season two which was set to air during the 2018-2019 fall season.

The disgusting tweet that apparently finally crossed the line with ABC involved Barr describing Valerie Jarrett’s looks as if “the muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby.” She ultimately deleted the tweet, although at first she responded to the claims of racism with “Islam is not a race.”

In a statement announcing Roseanne’s cancellation, ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey said, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”

Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger voiced his support for the cancellation, tweeting “There was only one thing to do here, and that was the right thing.”

Prior to ABC’s action, Roseanne co-star Sara Gilbert addressed Barr’s comments in two tweets. “Roseanne’s recent comments about Valerie Jarrett, and so much more, are abhorrent and do not reflect the beliefs of our cast and crew or anyone associated with our show. I am disappointed in her actions to say the least,” tweeted Gilbert. “This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love— one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.”

Series consulting producer Wanda Sykes also took action before the cancellation was announced. She tweeted this message: “I will not be returning to @RoseanneOnABC.”

The series, which was about to head into its 11th season in production, also starred John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Lecy Goranson, Michael Fishman, Emma Kenney, Ames McNamara, and Jayden Rey.

‘Lucifer’ Recap: “Once Upon a Time” Bonus Episode Takes Place in an Alternate Dimension

Lucifer Season 3 Bonus Episode Recap
Lauren German and Tom Ellis in the “Once Upon a Time” bonus episode of ‘Lucifer’ (Photo Credit: FOX)

What could possibly be the final episode of Lucifer aired on Fox on May 28, 2018 as part of a two-hour block. The first episode, “Boo Normal,” was set several episodes after the events of the season three finale. The second part of the two-hour block, “Once Upon a Time,” took place in a world in which Lucifer and Chloe didn’t know each other, Dan was never married or had a child, and Ella moved to LA to run an illegal business and never joined the police force. “Once Upon a Time” marked series star Kevin Alejandro’s directorial debut and only aired because of the efforts of fans who took part in the #Save Lucifer / #PickUpLucifer Twitter campaigns.

The episode kicks off with Chloe (Lauren German) chasing after a bad guy and then being gunned down by three men with automatic weapons. A voice-over by God (Neil Gaiman!) tells us that once upon a time there was a world like ours but with one small change that changed everything.

As Chloe’s dying, we learn her name is Bonnie – and then we learn Chloe’s an actress playing a cop named Bonnie. She’s excited about the scene and the project she’s working on, but she’s bummed to hear stunt man Stryder Novac is leaving the film. He invites her out to celebrate with his friends and after a little bit of convincing she finally says yes.

Over at Lux, Lucifer (Tom Ellis) is playing the piano and singing “My Way” while a packed crowd looks on. Maze (Lesley Ann-Brandt), wearing the mask from the comics, tends bar. After singing, Lucifer spots Chloe coming down the stairwell. She passes him by and heads straight to her friend.

Lucifer and Charlotte (Tricia Helfer) still know each other in this world. Apparently, she’s his attorney and he’s working on expanding Lux to Vegas. They head off to his penthouse and God informs us in this world Charlotte was never inhabited by Lucifer’s mom. Still, Lucifer can’t get in the mood with Charlotte despite the fact she’s gorgeous. He blames it on being in LA too long, and they decide maybe he needs to move to Las Vegas. They seal the Vegas deal with a kiss before preparing to he hand over the down payment in cash.

Chloe visits Dr. Linda (Rachael Harris) in this twisted world and talks about shooting Weaponizer 5 and being bored with her work. Linda listens and suggests maybe she should try playing something different. Linda reminds Chloe that she’s always wanted to be a role model and that she inspires little girls.

The camera pans out and we see Linda’s office is a set. Chloe used to be Linda’s patient, but now Linda has her own Doctor Linda television series. They compliment each other on what they’ve accomplished.

God admits he was controlling, but that he wants us to see what would have happened if he never put Chloe in Lucifer’s path. “Would they still get together?” asks God.

Lucifer finds Chloe’s friend dead in his nightclub. The police arrive and God lets us know that since Dan never married Chloe, his moral compass is different. His new partner found cash on the body and Dan’s okay with him keeping it.

In this world, Lucifer and Dan interacted on Delilah’s case and Dan never found her killer. Lucifer’s nickname for Dan in this alternate universe is Detective Dildo. Dan thinks Stryder was killed in a bar fight and Lucifer doesn’t believe that’s true. Dan tells him to stay out of police business, but Lucifer is determined to find the killer because the murder has stalled his Vegas deal.

God tells us that no matter what timeline, he and Lucifer’s relationship is complicated.

Chloe heads over to the police station to visit her dad, Lt. John Decker, who didn’t die in this revised timelime. She wants him to investigate the murder because Stryder wasn’t looking to fight and was just celebrating getting a job driving for NASCAR. She asks to speak to the detective handling the investigation, but her dad won’t let her. He reminds her police work is more dangerous in real life than in the movies.

Lucifer pays a visit to a tattooed, gun-toting Ella (Aimee Garcia). She runs a garage and he wants to know about the weapon used to kill Stryder. Ella says it’s a T-handled Torx driver, but it’s been sharpened to poke a hole in something. When Lucifer reveals it poked a hole in a body, Ella can’t believe he let her touch a murder weapon. She wants no part of this until he threatens to tell the cops about her operation.

Ella gives in and provides more details on the tool, describing it as from a pro-racer tool kit. It has a number stamped on it and a red label. She’ll work on figuring out what used to be inscribed on it.

Lucifer pays her for the info and heads off to the race track. He’s given a VIP pass by security when he says he’s looking for answers on a murder, and he’s ushered over to Chloe. She’s pretending to be a detective and Lucifer’s happy to see her instead of Detective Dildo. Chloe lets Lucifer believe she’s an actual detective, introducing herself as Bonnie. He turns to leave but then compliments her on her previous busts from the Weaponizer movies. He mentions the hot tub film, and she asks him not to, and then wonders if he’s on camera right now.

Lucifer Season 3 Bonus Episode Recap

Chloe confesses she worked with Stryder and believes he was murdered. She thinks the killer was Rex Wilson, the driver Stryder was going to replace. Rex is still driving since Stryder is dead. As Lucifer heads off to find Rex, Chloe asks who he is. He introduces himself and Chloe’s not impressed. She doesn’t want to leave this murder investigation in the hands of a boozy nightclub owner. She wants to stay on the case because she can handle it better than he can. To prove her point, she gets a special pass to visit the pits.

Back in the evidence locker, Charlotte busts Dan while he’s stealing cash. She tells him about a safe with hundreds of thousands of dollars in it, and she has the combo. He’s all in when he learns it’s Lucifer’s place. “I’d love to screw over that douchebag,” says Dan.

Charlotte’s plan is to go in and get the money while Dan watches to make sure no one catches her. They sort of flirt as they reveal they don’t trust each other.

Rex is on his practice run when Chloe asks to speak with him. Lucifer doesn’t care about that and stands in the middle of the track, summoning Amenadiel (DB Woodside) to stop time to keep the car from hitting him. They play catch up and Lucifer can’t believe how quickly Amenadiel arrived. He jokes that Amenadiel’s been flying around like a “feathery homeless men” since he can’t return to Heaven. Amenadiel admits he can’t go home and face their dad or their siblings with Lucifer still on Earth and refusing to return to Hell.

Amenadiel won’t mix with the humans and Lucifer suggests he try talking to one sometime. On Lucifer’s cue, Amenadiel starts time. Lucifer pulls Rex out of the car which speeds off without its driver. Security arrive to haul Lucifer off the track as Chloe walks away with Rex.

Once she has him in his trailer, Chloe pushes Rex into a chair. She demands to know about Stryder’s murder, but Rex claims not to know anything about it. She threatens him with bodily harm and Lucifer arrives to blow Chloe’s cover. The speech she was giving to Rex is one from Weaponizer 3 and now Rex is completely confused.

Lucifer uses his Jedi mind trick to get Rex to admit what he wants is a good story. Fans follow drivers now, not cars. Stryder was a client and Rex arranged for him to replace him. Stryder apparently needed the money to get him out of trouble with a guy from work.

After they leave the trailer, Chloe wants to know how Lucifer got Rex to talk. She thinks he’s psychic, but he explains he can’t read minds and isn’t a Jedi. “People just like to tell me things,” says Lucifer. Chloe thinks they want the same thing and Lucifer agrees they should have sex. She corrects him, suggesting they team up to investigate since she knows who Stryder was fighting with at work.

Doctor Linda talks to two-time Oscar nominee Nathan Fury and as they take a break, Linda learns Nathan’s new wife was just caught cheating. She doesn’t want to incite a breakdown on camera, but she’s told her ratings really need the boost.

Chloe and Lucifer arrive on set and watch Erika Dunlap, Chloe’s co-star, arguing with stunt coordinator Ben Rogers (Brian Tee). Chloe asks why Erika’s arguing with everyone and Ben says she’s just dealing with grief. Chloe then tells Lucifer Erika got hurt and was looking for a settlement when eyewitness Stryder refused to testify. They think Erika killed him out of anger, and Chloe suggests Lucifer have a chat with her and do “his thing.”

Chloe’s dad arrives on set and he’s heard what she’s been up to. He’s also heard she’s been investigating with Lucifer. Just then they both hear Erika and Lucifer having sex in Erika’s trailer, and Chloe can only shake her head.

While Lucifer’s out playing detective, Charlotte sneaks into his apartment and opens his safe. It’s full of stacks of bills and gold bars. As she begins removing them, she finds out she’s not alone. Maze is right behind her, along with her mask-wearing army.

Maze says she doesn’t care about the money, she just wants to know why Charlotte wants it. At first, Charlotte says Lucifer needs it to finish the Vegas deal but then admits she deserves it. When Maze asks what she’ll do with it, Charlotte snaps, “Whatever I damn well want.”

Maze cuts her loose from the chair where she’s been tied up and allows her to leave. She tells Charlotte to embrace all that darkness, warning her that the more she sins, the more fun it will be when they meet again someplace hotter.

Charlotte grabs the money and steps into the elevator. Maze sends her off with one final warning, “If I ever see you and that boy toy in Los Angeles again, I will gut that pretty belly of yours. Everyone knows you don’t steal from the Devil.”

Lt. Decker continues to berate Chloe until Lucifer emerges from Erika’s trailer, rumpled and covered in lipstick. He claims to have pumped the suspect and Chloe reminds him he was supposed to use his mind trick. Lucifer says she should have been more specific. Lt. Decker tells Chloe to go home, and she can’t believe she thought he’d be proud of her.

After he leaves, Lucifer reveals he believes she can solve a murder. While having sex, Lucifer learned that Erika is so flexible she could put her ankles around her neck. Therefore, she wasn’t injured. He also learned Erika needed money and Stryder told her he could help her out because he and a partner were going to steal something valuable from the set. Stryder probably backed out of the heist so he could take the NASCAR job. They just need to figure out who was Stryder’s partner.

Chloe and Lucifer head over to Ella’s to find out more about the murder weapon. She fangirls over Chloe, saying Chloe inspired her to steal cars. Ella then reveals the murder weapon had “Last Lappers” filed off the handle. Lucifer recognizes it as being from an ‘80s racing film and Chloe knows stunt coordinator Ben Rogers worked on that film.

Chloe and Lucifer show up on another Weaponizer set looking for Ben Rogers. He’s not around so they try and figure out what Ben and Stryder would have attempted to steal. Just then Lucifer spots Ben driving off in a $6 million car.

They hop in Lucifer’s car with the Fallin1 license plate and take off after Ben. Chloe cuts Ben off before he can even leave the set. Lucifer and Chloe confront Ben, informing him they’re aware he killed Stryder. Chloe says they found his prints on the murder weapon and Ben acts guilty. “You did?”

Chloe and Lucifer are sure by his reaction that he killed Stryder. Ben makes a run for it and they give chase. Lucifer catches up to him first and Ben’s ready to pull the trigger. He shoots Lucifer repeatedly and is stunned to see the bullets don’t affect Lucifer. Chloe sneaks up behind Ben and knocks him out.

Chloe’s dad arrives on set and Lucifer informs Lt. Decker he underestimated his own daughter. Lt. Decker calls Chloe brave and says he’s never underestimated her. He’s only kept her away from his job because she’s smarter than him and it scared him that she might want to become a cop. He knew she could handle it, but he didn’t think he could. He assures her he just wanted what was best for her. They hug, and the lieutenant takes off to clean up the crime scene.

God provides more voice-over as we watch Ella hang her new autographed The Weaponizer poster on her wall. He wonders if giving someone different options and circumstances will make that person end up different. Will they still essentially be the same person?

Maze brands her new follower with a mask as God says the potential is still there down deep inside. The conscience remains the same, but will people choose to listen to it?

Dan and Charlotte head off to Vegas as God declares, “Some people find love in the strangest of situations and are somehow happier for it.”

Lucifer and Chloe relax at night, looking out over the lights of the city. Lucifer had a fun time on the investigation and Chloe calls their day fulfilling. She thinks she might want to be a real detective. Lucifer laughs, but Chloe is serious. He then suggests he might tag along. When she says it won’t ever happen, he asks if she’d like to make a bet.

God tells us that no matter how you shake things up, some people make the same choices and are drawn to the same people and passions.

The episode ends with God asking us if we’d make the same choice about placing Chloe with Lucifer. “Wouldn’t you do the same in my shoes? After all, a parent just wants what’s best for their child.”

And that’s it for Lucifer on Fox. Hopefully, these two episodes that would have aired in season four will not be the last we’ll see of Lucifer, Chloe, Amenadiel, Maze, Dr. Linda, and Dan. There’s so much more story to tell and so many relationships still to delve into. It’ll be a shame if Lucifer didn’t have at least one more season to explore the new dynamics in the relationship between the Devil and his partner.

‘Lucifer’ Recap: “Boo Normal” Bonus Episode Reveals a New Member of Lucifer’s Family

Lucifer Season 3 Bonus Episode Boo Normal Recap

Although Fox opted not to renew Lucifer for a fourth season, after fans launched the #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer campaigns on Twitter the network decided to air two episodes that had already been filmed for season four. The two “bonus” episodes aired back-to-back on Monday, May 28, 2018, with the first episode – “Boo Normal” – set after the events of the season three finale.

Ella (Aimee Garcia) is in an awesome mood as the episode begins. She arrives at a crime scene, super bubbly, and assures Dr. Beth, the victim, that they’ll figure out what happened to her. Lucifer (Tom Ellis) steals her camera to take a few pics of his privates, and then Ella’s mood changes a bit when she receives a call from her family saying they want her to move back home. Chloe (Lauren German) wants to be supportive, but Lucifer absolutely doesn’t want her to leave.

Ella explains the victim used a bookend to hit Beth causing her to hit her head on a table and die. Plus, there’s a weird chunk of hair under her nails. Chloe knows the next young patient, Beckett, called in the murder so she wants to interview her.

Dan (Kevin Alejandro) has Beckett and is taking her to the station. She’s just a kid and is pretty emotional. Chloe wants Dan to ask if she tried to wipe up any blood, but Beckett doesn’t think she did. She does, however, want a Slurpee.

Ella finds a little blood on a closet door. Inside is a little boy named Felix who might have seen the murder. However, it turns out Felix can’t really communicate with strangers. That’s why he was seeing Dr. Beth.

Ella’s able to break through and he tells her he didn’t see who killed Beth. He had an appointment earlier that day and left his violin behind. He was only in the office because he wanted to pick up his instrument.

Ray-Ray (Charlyne Yi), an old friend of Ella’s, shows up unexpectedly. They had agreed years ago not to see each other, and Ella’s not happy to see her. Chloe interrupts Ella’s conversation with Ray-Ray, believing Ella’s talking to herself. It turns out Ray-Ray is a ghost!

Ella does a horrible job explaining why she was speaking out loud even though no one was in the room. She changes the subject to announce the mysterious clump was made of synthetic fur. Chloe wants to head out to see if she can find something that matches it back at Beth’s.

After Chloe leaves the room, Ella and Ray-Ray have an argument about ghosts and seeing things that aren’t there. Ella says they can’t be friends, but Ray-Ray explains she’s there to help with work stuff. Ella reluctantly agrees to bring her along to investigate the murder.

At Lux, Dan reveals Beckett ran away with his phone while he was transporting her to the police station. He’s desperate to find her and that’s the only reason he’s turning to Lucifer for help.

Chloe doesn’t know it, but Ray-Ray is with them as they look around Beth’s house. Ella finds a furry suit made of fake fur in the closet, and Ray-Ray reminds her she used to be into that. Ella corrects her and says she was into cosplay.

They determine Beth was wearing the costume before she died. Chloe finds a message on the answering machine from some woman, and apparently they were arguing over a guy named Wes.

Chloe dons the costume and attends the furry convention. Out in the van, Ella wants Ray-Ray to ask Beth if she can describe Wes. Ray-Ray says it’s a ghost rule no-no, but she acts like she’s trying anyway after Ella persists. Ray-Ray then says she can’t contact Beth because there’s something blocking the signal, and then finally has to admit she’s there because she has personal, unfinished business.

Ella promises to work with her until they solve Beth’s case if it will help her cross over.

Inside the convention, Chloe gets tackled while asking about Wes. She fights another fox, and they slam each other around. Finally, Chloe takes off her head and places the other fox under arrest.

Back at the station, it turns out Wesley is the fox character’s name – not a guy. Beth denied stealing the character and the original Wesley decided Beth was just into conflict. She has a good alibi since she was at the convention teaching how to build a fursona’s backstory. Ella can’t verify that’s an actual thing, calling herself “normal.” Ray-Ray gives her a thumbs down and says, “Boo normal!”

Lucifer and Dan track Dan’s phone to Six Flags Magic Mountain. Lucifer’s impressed by modern technology and not impressed that Dan doesn’t like amusement parks. It turns out Dan threw up on a roller coaster when he was 12. And, of course, Beckett’s on a huge roller coaster.

Dan tries to grab Beckett but she slips away from him, leaving poor Dan to scream by himself on the roller coaster.

Ella and Ray-Ray return to the crime scene, and Ella finally figures out Ray-Ray doesn’t care about this murder case. Ray-Ray confesses she’s there to check up on Ella and doesn’t want her to move back to Detroit. She believes it’s a terrible idea because Ella’s brothers are leeches. The LA people treat her much better and Ray-Ray thinks she deserves people who look out for her. But, Ella reminds her the LA people don’t know she sees Ray-Ray.

As they’re talking, the front door of Beth’s house begins to open. They hide in a closet as a person in a black mask and hoodie rifles through the desk. He hears Ella in the closet and opens its door. Ella momentarily blinds him with a flashlight and then uses a broom to fight him off. When he runs away, Ella’s pleased she got his fingerprints.

Over at Six Flags, Lucifer spends $200 for T-shirts and hats with Dan’s screaming face on them to pass out at the station. While Lucifer’s gloating, they discover Beckett stole Lucifer’s phone, his car keys, and Dan’s badge before escaping again.

Unfortunately, the fingerprints were smudged on the broom. But, Chloe has surveillance footage that shows a car speeding away after Ella’s fight. The fleeing car has a Rancho Middle School sticker, and they figure out the chalk on the broom could be from a teacher. Also, it could be from a violin bow and Felix plays the violin and left it in Beth’s office.

They pull in the music teacher and he admits to fighting with Ella in Beth’s office. He claims he was only there to retrieve a check for $5,000. He gave it to Beth to try to bribe her into not recommending Felix take private lessons and instead stay in his class at school. Chloe thinks that sounds like a motive, but the teacher has an alibi.

When Chloe brings up Beckett’s name, the teacher says Beckett’s a nightmare. Chloe calls Dan and he’s still not admitting he lost Beckett. As Dan and Lucifer argue about losing her in the parking lot, Lucifer decides it’s time to call in Maze (Lesley Ann-Brandt). She arrives and promptly asks, “What did you two idiots do now?”

They explain they lost a 14-year-old girl and all Maze can do is laugh. She finally agrees to help them only because she wants to meet Beckett.

It turns out Beckett is at Lux trying to order drinks. Maze tracks her there and although Lucifer would like her to be tortured, Dan takes charge of the delinquent. He informs her she’s a murder suspect, but she claims she didn’t see anything. She only said she did to get out of class. Dan convinces her to tell the truth and she reveals her tears at the crime scene were from the perfume at Beth’s place. She reeked of freesia which Beckett’s allergic to.

Ella’s still jumpy at the station, and when Chloe asks what’s up she lies and says she’s thinking of starting a new geeky hobby. Chloe gets serious and tells her she really wants her to stay in LA and that they’ll all miss her.

Chloe, Ella, and Ray-Ray head over to talk to their next suspect. Ella hangs back in the car and Ray-Ray has figured out Ella thinks her friends won’t accept her because she talks to dead people. Ella confesses she doesn’t want them to look at her with pity in their eyes.

As they’re talking in the car, Ella sees a construction dumpster at the neighbor’s house.

Chloe visits Felix’s mom and she’s wearing freesia. They talk about Felix’s commitment to the violin and Chloe wonders why he would have left it behind at Beth’s place. Felix’s mom says he wouldn’t have and she also corrects Chloe when Chloe suggests Beth told Felix he should be homeschooled and take private lessons. That’s not what Felix’s dad, Anthony, said Beth suggested.

Ella goes through the dumpster looking for the murder weapon. And voila! – the bookend is there, complete with dried blood. As she’s celebrating, Ella’s attacked by Felix’s dad. He tries to hit her with a metal bat but she fights him off. Chloe shows up just in time and Anthony admits he sent Felix to Beth so that she’d make him be more social. He didn’t want his son to play the violin anymore; he wanted him to do other things. He’s placed under arrest for Beth’s murder.

As they’re wrapping up the scene, Ella blurts out to Chloe that she sees a ghost. She tells her about Ray-Ray and their history together. Ella was eight when she got in a really bad car wreck and she’s been seeing Ray-Ray ever since. She thought she was an imaginary friend, and Ray-Ray finally corrected her that she’s a ghost. Chloe listens and when Ella asks, Chloe says she does not think Ella’s crazy. She even adds that she’s seen crazier things. (I don’t know what number this episode was intended to be in season four, but Chloe seems fine with her Devil partner.) Chloe assures Ella nothing she says will ever change her opinion about her. Ella declares she’s never moving back to Detroit.

Ray-Ray yells, “Told ya!” Since the case is closed, Ray-Ray is ready to leave but Ella has a question. She wants to know if Ray-Ray is really there as her ghost guardian angel, and Ray-Ray admits she has her back. Ella is okay with her checking in occasionally, but she can’t spy on her in the shower ever again. Ray-Ray leaves, saying, “Smell you later, Lopez.”

Back at the station, Lucifer hangs a large banner featuring the photo of Dan screaming on the roller coaster. Ella laughs at Lucifer’s new poster and then heads off, tossing out, “Smell you later, Lucifer.” Lucifer’s momentarily stunned and then asks why she’s using that turn of phrase. Ella says it’s something her friend Ray-Ray says.

Lucifer returns home and looks around his apartment. He calls out and tells Ray-Ray to show herself. It turns out Ray-Ray is Azrael, Lucifer’s sister. Azrael spreads her wings and Lucifer refuses to call her by her nickname because she abandoned him. She claims she didn’t abandon him and she’s just been busy being the Angel of Death. She’s sorry she never reached out to him when God kicked him down to Hell. She claims the whole family was rocked when he was kicked out and says he’s her favorite big brother. They used to punk Amenadiel together, and she really misses him just letting her say whatever is on her mind. However, she reminds him he did start a rebellion.

Lucifer wants to know why Ella knows about her and Ray-Ray explains she showed up to take her, but it was a false alarm. After meeting Ella, she just didn’t want to leave. She really likes her and likes checking up on her. She told Ella she was a ghost because it’s weird if people talk to invisible angels. She then learned humans talking to ghosts was also considered weird. So, she sent Ella to LA to be with Lucifer.

Lucifer’s pissed, comparing that action to his dad sending him Chloe. However, Ray-Ray says she did it for Ella. She wanted Lucifer to be with Ella so that two of her favorite people could be together. Azrael leaves before Lucifer can ask any more questions.

Back at the police station, Lucifer visits Ella while she’s looking in a microscope. He’s happy she’ll be staying in LA. Ella starts going off about DNA on wood versus synthetic wood, and Lucifer patiently listens to her lengthy story. Azrael watches them and smiles before turning to leave.

‘Grand Hotel’ TV Show Preview and Photos: Cast List, Plot Details and Trailer

Actress, writer and director Eva Longoria serves as one of the executive producers on ABC’s new series, Grand Hotel, which recently unveiled its first official trailer. Grand Hotel is based on the Spanish series Gran Hotel and will be a part of ABC’s 2018-2019 primetime lineup.

The cast is led by Oscar nominee Demian Bichir (A Better Life) as Santiago Mendoza and Roselyn Sanchez (Devious Maids) as Gigi Mendoza. The series also stars Denyse Tontz (The Fosters) as Alicia Mendoza, Bryan Craig (General Hospital) as Javi Mendoza, Wendy Raquel Robinson (The Mayor) as Mrs. P, Lincoln Younes (Love Child) as Danny, Shalim Ortiz (La Hermandad) as Mateo, Anne Winters (13 Reasons Why) as Ingrid, Chris Warren (The Hard Times of RJ Berger) as Jason, Feliz Ramirez as Carolina, and Justina Adorno (Seven Seconds) as Yoli.

Discussing Demian Bichir’s first network television role, Eva Longoria told The Hollywood Reporter she couldn’t picture anyone else in the part. “I’ve done two movies with Demian and he acts with a quiet force that conveys the strength this character needs. I am so excited to be assembling this all-star cast that reflects the world in which we live,” said Longoria.

Grand Hotel is written and executive produced by Brian Tanen (Devious Maids, Desperate Housewives), with Ben Spector (UnbeliEVAble), Ramon Campos, and Teresa Fernandez-Valdes (Beta) also executive producing. The pilot was directed by Ken Olin (This Is Us, Brothers & Sisters).

The Plot: Charismatic Santiago Mendoza (Bichir) owns the hotel, while his glamorous second wife, Gigi (Sanchez), and their adult children enjoy the spoils of success. The hotel’s loyal staff round out a contemporary, fresh take on an upstairs/downstairs story. Wealthy and beautiful guests bask in luxury, but scandals, escalating debt and explosive secrets hide beneath the picture-perfect exterior.

Box Office Report: ‘Solo’ Has a So-So Opening Weekend

Disney and Lucasfilm’s Solo: A Star Wars Story didn’t come close to the opening weekends posted by Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rogue One, or Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Solo explores the life of Han Solo in the years prior to Stars Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope and stars Alden Ehrenreich as the younger version of Harrison Ford. Opening over the Memorial Day holiday weekend, the studio expected the film to ring up between $130-150 million domestically. However, the holiday weekend found the Star Wars prequel grossing $84 million over three days and an estimated $103 million over four days.

In contrast, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens rang up $247 million during its first weekend in release. Rogue One followed in 2016 and grossed $155 million over its opening weekend. Star Wars: The Last Jedi arrived in theaters in December 2017 and collected $220 million domestically over the first weekend.

Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s box office could have been affected by the recent release of the superhero films Avengers: Infinity War and Deadpool 2. Solo went after the same demographics as those films, and Deadpool 2 in particular probably drew ticket buyers away from Solo. Plus, Solo’s baggage heading into theaters may have dampened the appeal of a new Star Wars film. The behind-the-scenes drama involving the booting of original directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord over creative differences might have put off some potential moviegoers. Ron Howard was brought in to take over directing and reshoots supposedly changed much of Miller and Lord’s original vision for the film.

Another factor affecting Solo: A Star Wars Story‘s box office could be that Star Wars fans have reached a point where they don’t automatically buy a ticket for every film in the franchise. With so many Star Wars projects in the pipeline, the revived film franchise might already be heading toward if not a saturation point, at least the point where the films are no longer an event-type release.

Next weekend Solo: A Star Wars Story will be going up against three wide theatrical releases. Adrift starring Shailene Woodley and Sam Claflin is set to open in 2,900 theaters on June 1st. The latest Johnny Knoxville comedy, Action Point, will be released by Paramount in 2,000 theaters next weekend, and Upgrade with Logan Marshall-Green is also set to enter theaters on June 1st.

Box Office Top 10: May 25-28, 2018

  1. Solo: A Star Wars Story – $103,000,000
  2. Deadpool 2 – $55,000,000
  3. Avengers: Infinity War – $21,247,000
  4. Book Club – $12,500,000
  5. Life of the Party – $6,935,000
  6. Breaking In – $5,720,000
  7. Show Dogs – $6,034,770
  8. Overboard – $4,300,000
  9. A Quiet Place – $3,000,000
  10. RBG – $1,558,700
