George Clooney is returning to television as the star of the dramatic limited series Catch-22. Hulu is moving forward with the six-part limited series based on the bestselling, critically acclaimed novel by Joseph Heller. Clooney will not only star in the limited series but will also direct along with Grant Heslov, his partner at Smokehouse Pictures.
George Clooney, Grant Heslov, Richard Brown, Steve Golin, Luke Davis, and David Michôd are on board as executive producers. In addition, Michôd and Davis will adapt Heller’s book for the limited series. Catch-22 is set up as a Hulu, Paramount Television, and Anonymous Content production.
“Catch-22 is a rare story that has withstood the test of time, not only as a literary masterpiece, but as a story that still resonates in today’s political and social conversation,” said Hulu Chief Content Officer Joel Stillerman. “These are exactly the types of stories we want to be programming at Hulu, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with George Clooney, Paramount TV and this phenomenal group of creatives to bring one of the most well-known books of all time to viewers in a way that has never been seen before.”
The Plot: Based on Joseph Heller’s seminal novel of the same name, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian, a US Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him. But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service. Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22, a hilariously sinister bureaucratic rule which specifies that a concern for one’s own safety in the face of dangers which are real and immediate is the process of a rational mind; a man is considered insane if he willingly continues to fly dangerous combat missions, but a request to be removed from duty is evidence of sanity and therefore makes him ineligible to be relieved from duty.
Although the original novel was published over 50 years ago, Catch-22 has continued to be regarded as the origin story of the geopolitical here-and-now.

BBC America has set an April 8, 2018 premiere date for the dramatic series Killing Eve. The thriller will air on Sundays at 8pm ET/PT and stars The White Princess‘ Jodie Comer and Grey’s Anatomy‘s Sandra Oh.
In addition to announcing the original series’ premiere date, BBC America unveiled the first five official photos from season one.
Killing Eve was written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) and is based on the novellas by Luke Jennings. Waller-Bridge serves as executive producer and showrunner, with Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris also executive producing.
“In Killing Eve, a genius bunch of women behind and in front of the camera transcend the predictable with this funny and heart-stopping twisted cat and mouse thriller. From creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge – with remarkable performances from Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer – Killing Eve stands out in a sea of scripted stories as refreshingly entertaining and great fun,” said Sarah Barnett, BBCA President.
The Plot: BBCA’s Killing Eve centers on two women; Eve is a bored, whip-smart, pay-grade MI5 security officer whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Killing Eve topples the typical spy-action thriller as these two fiercely intelligent women, equally obsessed with each other, go head to head in an epic game of cat and mouse.

Starz and Lionsgate are developing a dramatic series based on the popular John Wick film franchise. The Continental takes place within the universe of the film’s John Wick (played by Keanu Reeves), with the action focusing on the Continental Hotel which is central to the assassins’ world in the film series.
“This series is truly unlike anything else on TV,” said Starz President & CEO Chris Albrecht. “The Continental promises to include the thunderous fight sequences and intensely staged shootouts between professional assassins and their targets that fans have come to expect in the John Wick movie franchise as well as introducing some new, darkly compelling characters who inhabit this underground world.”
Keanu Reeves will be involved with the series as an executive producer, and it’s possible he’ll show up in an episode. Chris Collins (Sons of Anarchy, The Wire, The Man in the High Castle) is on board as the series’ writer and showrunner. Collins, Basil Iwanyk (the John Wick film franchise, The Town, Sicario), Chad Stahelski (John Wick co-director and John Wick: Chapter 2 director), John Wick franchise screenwriter Derek Kolstad, and David Leitch (John Wick co-director, Deadpool 2) are also on board as executive producers. In addition, Stahelski is confired to direct the premiere episode.
The Plot: Chris Collins expands the universe in the series by focusing on the Continental Hotel and those who find refuge under its roof. Set in a hyper-real version of Los Angeles, the series maintains the urgency of the action along with the dry humor from the John Wick movies. Drawing upon the collaborative efforts of Lionsgate’s film, television and Starz platforms, The Continental continues the growth of a franchise that has already generated two hit films that have grossed nearly $300 million at the worldwide box office and a successful virtual reality mobile game.
