‘Fahrenheit 451’ Starring Michael B Jordan, Michael Shannon Debuts a Teaser Trailer

HBO Films hasn’t set a premiere date for the latest adaptation of Fahrenheit 451, however they have released a teaser trailer teasing a spring debut. Ramin Bahrani (99 Homes) and Amir Naderi (Vegas: Based on a True Story) adapted Ray Bradbury’s bestselling novel for the screen, with Bahrani directing and executive producing. Sarah Green, Michael B. Jordan, Alan Gasmer, and Peter Jaysen were also involved as executive producers on the sci-fi thriller.

Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther, Creed, Fruitvale Station), Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water, Boardwalk Empire, Nocturnal Animals, Revolutionary Road), Sofia Boutella (The Mummy, Kingsman: The Secret Service), and Lilly Singh (Bad Moms, YouTube’s Superwoman) star in Fahrenheit 451 which recently wrapped up production in Toronto. Kramer Morgenthau was the director of photography, Mark Digby was the production designer, Meghan Kasperlik served as costume designer, and Alex Hall edited the timely drama. Matteo Zingales and Antony Partos collaborated with writer/director Ramin Bahrani as the film’s composers.

“I have always loved Ray Bradbury’s prophetic novel Fahrenheit 451,” said Bahrani. “Two years ago, as I looked at the world around me, it seemed like the ideal time to do a modern interpretation. I am grateful to HBO for helping me bring my vision of the film to audiences with this incredible cast.”

The Plot and Characters: Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel of the same name, depicting a future where the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and “firemen” burn books. Jordan portrays Montag, a young fireman who forsakes his world and struggles to regain his humanity as he battles his mentor, fire captain Beatty, played by Shannon. Sofia Boutella stars as Clarisse, an informant caught between the competing interests of Montag and Beatty. The cast also includes Lilly Singh as Raven, a tabloid reporter who works with the fire department to spread the ministry’s propaganda by broadcasting its book-burning raids to fans.

‘SNL’ Sets Sam Rockwell, Jessica Chastain, and Will Ferrell as Hosts

SNL Hosts Sam Rockwell

NBC’s announced the hosts and musical guests for the January 2018 episodes of Saturday Night Live, with the lineup set to include two first-time hosts and the return of one of the show’s former cast members. Sam Rockwell, Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice Awards winner for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, will kick off the new year as host of the January 13th episode. Rockwell will be making his SNL debut and so will the episode’s musical guest, Halsey. Halsey’s most recent album (hopeless fountain kingdom) hit stores in June 2017 and made it to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart.

Two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain will make her SNL hosting debut on the January 20, 2018 episode. Chastain’s currently busy on the awards circuit and earning rave reviews for her performance as Molly Bloom, former Olympics hopeful skier turned poker queen, in Molly’s Game. Chastain will be joined on January 20th by fellow SNL first-timer Troye Sivan. Sivan’s new single, “My My My!”, just dropped and 20 hours after the song’s official musical video was released it had already amassed 2+ million views.

SNL will finish up January by bringing back Saturday Night Live alum Will Ferrell as host for the January 27th episode. The January 27th episode will mark Ferrell’s fourth time handling hosting duties. Ferrell, a cast member from 1995 through 2002, was most recently seen in Daddy’s Home 2 with Mark Wahlberg and The House with fellow SNL alumni Amy Poehler.

The musical guest for January 27th episode will be Chris Stapleton who’ll be performing on the show for the second time. Stapleton’s latest album, From A Room: Volume 2, was released on December 1, 2017. The first From A Room album scored the Album of the Year award at the 2017 CMA’s. It’s also been nominated in the Best Country Album category at the 60th Annual Grammy Awards.

Top 10 Dinosaur Movies

Top 10 Dinosaur Movies

Dinosaurs are cool. That’s just a fact. And Hollywood likes to tap into cool so that means there are a lot of films featuring dinosaurs in everything from cameos to starring roles. But not all dinosaur movies are created equal. Some are ruined by shoddy effects that try to pass off an iguana as some Jurassic creature while others can’t seem to create a script worthy of its prehistoric beasts. But when a film gets it right, it’s magical and a dinosaur on a big screen looming above you can simply take your breath away.

Here’s a list of the 10 best dinosaur movies, and by that, I mean films that best showcase these magnificent creatures with at least a nod to realism. That means films with dragons, made-up dinosaur-like beasts, and mutated creatures (sorry no Godzilla movies) are off the table. As are ones that are so dumb they’d offend even a caveman’s intelligence (yeah, I’m thinking of 10,000 BC and that Land of the Lost remake).

10 Best Dinosaur Films:

Top 10 Dinosaur Movies 1933 King Kong

1. King Kong (1933)
Kong may be the star here, but you can’t see this film and not walk away awestruck by the amazing stop-motion animation prehistoric creatures created by Willis O’Brien. Not only do you get a brontosaurus (I know he has since been proven to have not existed), stegosaurus, styracosaurus, and pteranodon in beautifully detailed sequences, but you get a rock ‘em, sock ‘em fight to the death encounter between Kong and a tyrannosaurus. Newer films with computer-generated dinos may be able to create something that displays superior realism, but no film captures the imagination and inspires a sense of wonder more than this black-and-white classic made with love and passion by O’Brien.

2. Fantasia (1940)
There was a time when Disney animation was truly bold and inspired, and nowhere is this better represented than in The Rite of Spring sequence in Fantasia. It is nothing less than a stroke of genius to pair Igor Stravinsky’s dissonant and unsettling music fueled by contradictory rhythms with an animated sequence that begins with the birth of the universe and ends with the ultimate demise of the dinosaurs. The animation was epic in its scope and scale, and in contrast to what we would later get from Disney animation, it was brutally unsentimental. A T-Rex and a stegosaurus engage in violent battle. Then we witness the earth drying up and dinosaurs dying of hunger and thirst, some getting stuck in mud and pathetically struggling for life. Even the mighty T-Rex falls and dies. The sequence was devastating and spellbinding. This is not just a brilliant dinosaur showcase, but it also represents the pinnacle of artistry and storytelling at Disney.

3. Jurassic Park (1993)
There’s no denying that Steven Spielberg’s film pushed special effects – both the practical and CGI varieties – to their limit to give us some truly spectacular dinosaurs. Not only did we get close enough to see whether T-Rex’s teeth needed flossing, but we also got huge herds of dinosaurs running free across vast fields. T-Rex, a Hollywood favorite for his scale, got a featured role, as you might expect, but the film also showcased some lethal little upstarts to provide a whole new kind of terror – the clever velociraptors. The film might not have tapped into the kind of adult terror that fueled Michael Crichton’s novel, but it delivered a theme park ride of thrills and adventure good enough to launch a franchise. This first film is decidedly the best of the bunch in terms of filmmaking. As the films went on, the dinosaurs evolved to a degree, but the storytelling didn’t.

Top 10 Dinosaur Movies - King Kong

4. King Kong (2005)
Peter Jackson’s remake of the 1933 classic may have its shortcomings, but it’s hard to complain about the dinosaurs. You get an impressive stampede of dinos down a narrow valley and, more notably, a breathtakingly intense and furious fight where Kong fights not one, not two, but three T-Rexes… while he’s holding on to Ann Darrow. That’s exciting.

5. Jurassic World (2015)
All right, I wasn’t going to include any other films in the Jurassic Park franchise, but with effects technology still evolving I decided to add this to the list. The one constant factor running through all the Jurassic films and giving them their main appeal is that dinosaurs possess the “wow” factor. Chris Pratt’s character knows that, and he works with velociraptors – those vicious baddies from the first film – to try and prove that they can be trained and bonded with. They may have been made in a test tube, but he sees them as living beings with emotions if not a warm and fuzzy heart.

I am mainly including this film for one shot: the mosasaurus jumping out of the water and opening its massive jaws right into the camera to grab the tasty little snack of a great white shark (take that, Steven Spielberg). The shot makes you feel the scale and mass of this creature as he fills the screen and then slams back into the water displacing enough water for a small tsunami. Also deserving a shout-out is the genetically engineered indominus rex. In the tight shots it shows off its intimidating and toothy grin, and it’s astounding. Its full-body design isn’t nearly as spectacular, but it’s intense in close-ups. If you love dinosaurs, then there are plenty here to entertain you.

6. The Valley of Gwangi (1969)
Ray Harryhausen has created some great cinematic dinosaurs, but sadly his stellar work is often wasted in films where the storytelling seems stuck in the Stone Age. Harryhausen’s enthralling work deserves being highlighted, and since One Million Years, B.C. was just too silly and The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms didn’t have a real dinosaur, I decided to go with The Valley of Gwangi. This is also a film where humans anachronistically face off against dinosaurs. But conceit to make that happen is so ridiculous that it’s kind of charming: a cowboy discovers a Forbidden Valley where prehistoric creatures live, so he decides to catch one for a Mexican circus. There’s even a scene of cowboys roping an allosaurus! Apparently, this was required viewing for the ILM effects guys as they prepared to work on Jurassic Park. That’s how good Harryhausen’s work was. And it still remains a standard by which new effects are judged.

7. The Lost World (1925)
Another gem from Willis O’Brien. This merits recognition for being an early example of O’Brien’s stop-motion animation and for how amazing it is even with the primitive technology. Appreciate this as part of the evolution of the cinematic dinosaur. It was also the first film adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s 1912 novel about a land where dinosaurs still exist. His books would inspire numerous other remakes and the Jurassic Park franchise even ripped off the title for one of its offshoots without any acknowledgement to its source.

When I went back to watch this, I was stunned to find there were actually human characters in the story. I had honestly only remembered the dinosaurs. The human actors left zero impression on me.

Carnosaur Poster

8. Carnosaur (1993)
Carnosaur may sound like a made-up dinosaur name, but it is a scientific term that Merriam-Webster defines as: “any of a group (Carnosauria) of very large theropod dinosaurs (such as a tyrannosaur). First Known Use: 1952.” But it proves to be the perfect term for what is essentially a dinosaur slasher film with a high and bloody body count. The cheese factor is high here, but the film is hard to resist. Plus, it is noteworthy for the fact that Roger Corman – ever the savvy businessman — snatched up the rights to Harry Adam Knight’s novel about cloned dinosaurs so that he could release a dino pic two weeks before Steven Spielberg got Jurassic Park into theaters. And he cast Jurassic Park star Laura Dern’s mom, Diane Ladd, as the mad scientist who wants to wipe out the human race and repopulate the earth with prehistoric beasts.

The film (shot in 18 days) was made on a fraction of a fraction of the budget Spielberg had, so it wisely places tongue firmly in cheek and has some fun letting its theropods try to destroy humanity. Kudos for the low-budget practical effects that give the lead dino some personality and B-movie star charisma.

9. Planet of Dinosaurs (1977)
This basically takes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World concept and shoots it into outer space. A spaceship and its crew must make an emergency landing on an unknown planet that looks amazingly like Earth (what a relief for the producers and their minuscule budget) but has dinosaurs and other assorted creatures roaming around. This film has truly awful acting and the most lamely formulaic script, but it also has some amazingly realistic and endearing stop-motion animated dinosaurs. As with The Valley of Gwangi, enjoy this for the dinosaur effects and the camp factor. Note the nod to Harryhausen’s Beast from 20,000 Fathoms.

Walking with Dinosaurs Poster

10. Walking with Dinosaurs (2013)
Okay, let’s end on a light note. I tried to avoid talking dinosaurs since they tend to be silly, but there are just so many damn dinosaurs in this film, and the viewers are so immersed in their world that I decided to include it. Maybe watch with the sound turned down.

Bonus pick: Ice Age (2002)
This animated tale focuses on a wooly mammoth, saber tooth tiger, and a sloth as they try to return a human infant to his tribe. Obviously, realism is not a primary concern here (I mean, the creatures talk!). The comedy is low, think prehistoric vaudeville, but the characters are engaging and the film’s entertaining. It’s also rare to see prehistoric mammals. For some reason, dinosaurs capture Hollywood’s imagination far more readily than their furry counterparts, so I wanted to highlight at least one film where primitive warm-blooded beasts got center stage.

Oscar winner Charlize Theron (Monster) previously worked with director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody on 2011’s Young Adult, a comedy/drama about a young adult book writer who has writers block and returns home to try and steal her ex-boyfriend from his wife. It earned a Golden Globe nomination for Theron in the Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical category, and Cody picked up a Writers Guild of America nomination for her original screenplay. The R-rated film was made for $12 million-ish and grossed $22.9 million during its theatrical run.

Juno earned four Oscar nominations, with Cody winning for the Best Original Screenplay. Juno had a $7 million budget and rang up $231 million worldwide before exiting theaters.

The Elementary Plot: Elementary stars Jonny Lee Miller as Detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson in a modern-day drama about a crime-solving duo that cracks the NYPD’s most impossible cases. Initially sober companion and client, Holmes and Watson’s relationship evolved into a symbiotic professional investigative partnership. They are the top homicide consultants for Captain Thomas Gregson and work regularly alongside Detective Marcus Bell.

The pair entered into a mutually beneficial arrangement with Shinwell Johnson, an ex-convict who shared his expertise of the city’s underworld in exchange for them teaching him how to be an effective FBI informant. The trio’s alliance ended when Shinwell attacked Holmes after he and Watson discovered Shinwell committed an unsolved murder. The assault caused Holmes to suffer memory loss and hallucinations, a secret which compromises his work and relationship with Watson, and forces him to seek neurological help. Holmes copes with his health crisis by refocusing on his sobriety and discovers a new ally in Michael, a fellow addict who once found the strength to stay sober from Sherlock’s own words in past meetings. As Holmes struggles with uncharacteristic vulnerability, he fights to salvage his career and his friendship with Watson, which he values above all else.

The Code Black Plot: Code Black is a heart-pounding medical drama that takes place in the busiest, most notorious ER in the nation, where the staggering influx of patients outweigh the limited resources available to the extraordinary doctors and nurses whose job is to treat them all – creating a condition known as Code Black. At the heart of the ER is Dr. Leanne Rorish, a stop-at-nothing residency director whose job is to save lives in an often-impossible environment. She is in the process of adopting a teenage girl named Ariel, and she is known to by the group of residents as “Daddy.”

Joining her is Col. Ethan Willis, who focuses now on field medicine, working on an ambulance or chopper with his ride-along partner, Rox Valenzuela, a tough and fearless paramedic. Both Leanne and Ethan work under – and sometimes against – the iron hand of ER and OR director Dr. Will Campbell, a top-tier surgeon. When the residents need a shoulder to cry on, they turn to senior ER nurse Jesse Sallander, known to them as “Mama,” whose stern hand guides them. Mama’s “children” include third-year residents Dr. Angus Leighton and Dr. Mario Savetti, and second-year residents Dr. Noa Kean and Dr. Elliot Dixon. Dr. Rollie Guthrie is the avuncular, wise grandfather to all. At Center Stage, life is measured in seconds, and these heroic doctors and nurses operate with speed and skill within an overwhelmed system to heal people who are often there for one of two reasons: to die or to receive a life-saving miracle.

Her accolades include 2 Grammy Awards, 12 (CMA) Country Music Associations Awards, and 28 (ACM) Academy of Country Music Awards as well as many other honors, including the prestigious Harmony Award from the Nashville Symphony.

The Texas native released her most recent effort, a double album titled The Weight of These Wings in November 2016, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. She touts six studio albums to her repertoire; Kerosene (2005), Crazy Ex-Girlfriend (2007), Revolution (2009), Four The Record (2011) and Platinum (2014), the latter earning Lambert a GRAMMY Award for Best Country Album, in addition to her previous GRAMMY win for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 2010 for “The House That Built Me.” The first song released from The Weight Of These Wings, “Vice,” received multiple Grammy and ACM Award nominations. Her third single, “Tin Man”, is currently at Country Radio.”

More on Little Big Town: “GRAMMY, ACM, CMA, and AMA Award-winning group, Little Big Town — consisting of members Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook — first entered the music scene with hit songs “Boondocks,” “Bring It On Home,” “Good As Gone” and the GRAMMY-nominated “Little White Church.” Their breakthrough albums Tornado and Pain Killer produced multiple #1 singles, including “Pontoon,” “Tornado,” and “Day Drinking,” as well as the history-making, best-selling country single of the year (2015) “Girl Crush.”

Released February 24, 2017, Little Big Town’s latest studio album, The Breaker, debuted #1 on the Billboard Country Charts and Top 10 (No.4) on the Billboard 200 to critical acclaim, marking the group’s fourth Top 10 debut on the Billboard 200 chart. The album features their GRAMMY-nominated , multi-week #1 single, “Better Man,” as well as their current single, “When Someone Stops Loving You.”

Little Big Town has earned more than 40 award show nominations and in the past five years has taken home nearly 20 awards, including multiple GRAMMY, AMA, People’s Choice, CMA and ACM awards, and an Emmy award. Currently the reigning CMA and ACM Vocal Group of the Year, the Country Music Hall of Fame inductees (2014) went onto receive their star on the Nashville Walk of Fame in 2017. Little Big Town is the only act to ever host a year-long artist residency at the famed Ryman Auditorium in Nashville – the sold-out “Little Big Town at the Mother Church”- marking the venue’s first-ever year-long residency in its 125-year history. The band also recently launched 4 Cellars wine, their first non-musical project as a band, with Browne Family Vineyards.”
