Chris Pine, Casey Affleck, Ben Foster, Holliday Grainger, John Ortiz, and Eric Bana star in Disney’s The Finest Hours, directed by Craig Gillespie (Million Dollar Arm) and based on a true story. Disney has just released the official trailer and poster for the action film set on the sea and featuring heroic members of the Coast Guard out on a particularly dangerous rescue mission.

The Finest Hours opens in theaters on January 29, 2016.

The Plot:

A heroic action-thriller, The Finest Hours is the remarkable true story of the greatest small boat rescue in Coast Guard history. Presented in Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D, the film will transport audiences to the heart of the action, creating a fully-immersive cinematic experience on an epic scale. On February 18, 1952, a massive nor’easter struck New England, pummeling towns along the Eastern seaboard and wreaking havoc on the ships caught in its deadly path, including the SS Pendleton, a T-2 oil tanker bound for Boston, which was literally ripped in half, trapping more than 30 sailors inside its rapidly-sinking stern. As the senior officer on board, first assistant engineer Ray Sybert (Affleck) soon realizes it is up to him to take charge of the frightened crew and inspire the men to set aside their differences and work together to ride out one of the worst storms to ever hit the East Coast. Meanwhile, as word of the disaster reaches the U.S. Coast Guard station in Chatham, Massachusetts, Warrant Officer Daniel Cluff (Bana) orders a daring operation to rescue the stranded men. Despite overwhelming odds, four men, led by Coast Guard Captain Bernie Webber (Pine), set out in a wooden lifeboat with an ill-equipped engine and little, if any, means of navigation, facing frigid temperatures, 60-foot high waves and hurricane-force winds.

Johnny Depp, Richard Branson Team Up on Muscle Shoals Series

Johnny Depp and Sir Richard Branson have partnered up on a dramatic series inspired by director Greg Camalier’s documentary film, Muscle Shoals. Depp’s Infinitum Nihil, Branson’s Virgin Produced, and City Entertainment are producing the television series, and Camalier will also involved as a producer. Camalier’s Muscle Shoals about FAME Studios founder Rick Hall premiered in theaters in 2013 following a successful festival run.

“Greg’s film unearthed the poetic mysticism and inspired us to produce a series that utilizes music and narrative in a unique and ground-breaking way,” said CEO of Virgin Produced Jason Felts. “This provocative story about the rich region and pioneering artists that birthed the iconic ‘Muscle Shoals Sound’ fits in with Virgin’s music roots and provides an ideal opportunity to partner with Depp, Infinitum, and City Entertainment.”

Muscle Shoals is an extraordinary story in which, through adversity, some of the world’s most amazing music was created. It is perfectly suited for Infinitum as it combines Johnny’s love of music and its history with our company’s creative mission to tell these stories,” added Infinitum Nihil President Christi Dembrowski.

The Details:

The series will explore the rich and vast milieu of the tumultuous and often poetically tragic segregated south through its colorful characters, rich cultural and political history and southern gothic settings, which became a unique melting pot of diverse musical & cultural traditions. Weaving a Faulkneresque tale through the stories of Muscle Shoals and the magical and mythical south, the filmmakers will get behind the music to explore the extraordinary stories that birthed this iconic sound.

According to Disney, the Han Solo solo film will “focus on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.”

Lawrence Kasdan and Jon Kasdan are writing the screenplay. Lawrence’s credits include Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Big Chill, and Grand Canyon. We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us. This is a dream come true for us. And not the kind of dream where you’re late for work and all your clothes are made of pudding, but the kind of dream where you get to make a film with some of the greatest characters ever, in a film franchise you’ve loved since before you can remember having dreams at all,” said Miller and Lord.

Lord and Miller’s directing credits include The LEGO Movie, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, 21 Jump Street, and 22 Jump Street.
