For fans of the book who wondered why The Giver isn’t in black and white, this new featurette answers that question. The film, coming to theaters on August 15, 2014, shows off new footage that is, in fact, in black and white. However, precisely what will wind up in color and what will be in black and white when the film hits theaters is a little ambiguous, as scenes from the first color trailer are now in black and white in this new video.
Directed by Phillip Noyce and based on the bestselling book by Lois Lowry, The Giver stars Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Alexander Skarsgård, Katie Holmes, Odeya Rush, and Taylor Swift.
The Plot:
The haunting story of The Giver centers on Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment. Not until he is given his life assignment as the Receiver of Memory does he begin to understand the dark, complex secrets behind his fragile community.

The life story of Tupac Shakur will be told in the dramatic biopic Tupac directed by two-time Oscar nominee John Singleton (Boyz in the Hood) from a screenplay by Jeremy Haft, Ed Gonzalez and Singleton. Although filming hasn’t yet begun, Open Road Films has picked up the U.S. distribution rights to the project. Morgan Creek Productions and Emmett/Furla/Oasis Films are financing and producing Tupac.
“To this day, Tupac remains one of the most compelling and provocative artists of all time and I can’t think of a better filmmaker to bring his story to the big screen than John Singleton,” stated CEO of Open Road Films Tom Ortenberg. “Everyone at Open Road Films is incredibly excited about this movie and we are thrilled to partner with Morgan Creek and Emmett/Furla/Oasis on the project.”
“Open Road truly understands the importance and significance of Tupac both as an artist and as a cultural icon,” said Chairman/CEO of Morgan Creek James G. Robinson. “We are delighted to be in business with this exceptional team and look forward to a successful partnership.”

Actor Jon Hamm, best known for his role in the hit TV series Mad Men, recently made a guest appearance on Sesame Street. During his visit, Hamm graciously offered his assistance to Murray who was having difficulty comprehending various emotions. Specifically, Murray was seeking to understand the concepts of frustration and guilt. Hamm patiently explained the meaning of these emotions and provided examples of what they might look like when experienced.
Murray’s question about the feeling of being amazed elicited a heartwarming smile from Hamm.
