Go behind the scenes of 12 Years a Slave with director Steve McQueen, the producers, cinematographer, screenwriter, and actors for a look at McQueen’s vision for the film. 12 Years a Slave, one of the films earning the most Oscar buzz, will open in theaters on October 25, 2013.

The cast is led by Chiwetel Ejiofor and includes Michael Fassbender, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Garret Dillahunt, Paul Giamatti, Scoot McNairy, and Lupita Nyong’o. Adepero Oduye, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Michael Kenneth Williams, Alfre Woodard, Chris Chalk, Taran Killam, and Bill Camp also star.

The Plot:

12 Years a Slave is based on an incredible true story of one man’s fight for survival and freedom. In the pre-Civil War United States, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), a free black man from upstate New York, is abducted and sold into slavery. Facing cruelty (personified by a malevolent slave owner, portrayed by Michael Fassbender) as well as unexpected kindnesses, Solomon struggles not only to stay alive, but to retain his dignity. In the twelfth year of his unforgettable odyssey, Solomon’s chance meeting with a Canadian abolitionist (Brad Pitt) forever alters his life.

‘Anchorman 2’ Inspires a Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Flavor

Ben & Jerry's Scotchy Scotch Scotch Ron Burgundy Anchorman Ice Cream

This is absolutely true: there is a Ben & Jerry’s Scotchy Scotch Scotch ice cream flavor and it’s all Ron Burgundy’s fault. That’s right, the ice cream chain has created a new “limited batch” flavor in honor of the fictional San Diego TV news anchor who ends his broadcasts with “Stay classy, San Diego” and who mistakenly believes the So. Cal town is named after a whale’s private parts in Anchorman 2.

“Scotchy, Scotch, Scotch is a delicious ice cream and I hope Ben and Jerry consider my other suggestions,” stated Ron Burgundy. “Malt liquor marshmallow, well liquor bourbon peanut butter, and cheap white wine sherbet.”

The new flavor is a combo of butterscotch ice cream and ribbons of butterscotch swirl. Scotchy Scotch Scotch is now available at Ben & Jerry scoop stores and will soon be appearing in other stores. “To help locate the flavor as it rolls out, we’re asking fans of Ben & Jerry’s and Anchorman to log onto benjerry.com and share when and where they were able to have a taste,” Lisa Sholk, Ben & Jerry’s Marketing Maven and Scotchy Scotch Scotch team leader. “We want fans to be able to experience it all first-hand, because as Ron says, this flavor is ‘kind of a big deal.’”

During a promotional event to unveil the new flavor, Nutty The Waterskiing Squirrel performed followed by a batch of Burgundy look-alikes riding in a Ben & Jerry’s truck made into a Channel 4 News van.

“Having Ben & Jerry’s celebrate the return of Ron Burgundy to the big screen with the introduction of this special ice cream is an exciting and delicious way to build anticipation for the film,” said LeeAnne Stables, President of Consumer Products at Paramount Pictures. “We especially enjoyed the sampling process over the last several months to find the perfect Scotchy scotch flavor.”

The Plot of Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues:

With the 70’s behind him, San Diego’s top-rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues. Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) – All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy…while taking New York and the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues arrives in theaters on December 20, 2013.

New Artist Spotlight: Tyler Farr

Tyler Farr Profile
Tyler Farr (Photo Credit: Courtesy Sony Music Nashville)

Tyler Farr celebrates girls and trucks. Just what Country Music needs, right?

In Farr’s case, absolutely. He follows a familiar path through much of Redneck Crazy, his Columbia Nashville debut. But every now and then he slams on the brakes and veers in an unexpected direction.

Farr’s drawl draws from somewhere south of his hometown, Garden City, Mo. He rasps too, whether it’s from loving the outdoorsman’s lifestyle or working four nights each week at Tootsies Orchid Lounge. (The legendary Nashville venue hired him originally as a bouncer.)

His music is catchy, riff-heavy, and steeped deep in tradition. He knows what kind of image he projects. But he has fun with it too, on “Wish I Had a Boat,” which is all about … wishing he had a boat. On various tracks, he compliments his ladies by comparing them to moonshine.

Then hold on for those sudden turns. The title track, let’s be honest, paints a scary picture of a jilted lover beaming his truck’s lights into his ex’s window at 3 AM and hurling empty beer cans at “both of your shadows” inside. This guy sounds dangerous; but on the other hand, Farr fully conveys his raw fury and pain without apology.

Yet on the last track, “Living With the Blues,” Farr goes solo, just acoustic guitar and a near-whispered lyric that reflects fragility and doubt. These yin and yang performances suggest there’s much more in Farr’s artistry than mere boat lust.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
