Every week just prior to a new True Blood episode I have to repeat to myself, “The TV series has absolutely nothing to do with the books.” And that’s true this season more so than any of the previous seasons. Alcide’s not an all-around good guy? What? And Sam loses the love of his life only to make out with pretty much a random stranger within hours of Luna’s death? Who are these characters, and what did they do with Charlaine Harris’ creations?
And don’t even get me started on what’s going on with Bill/Lilith/Billith… Missing this season is the humor and surprisingly, the characters seem to stay clothed more than in the past five years. The absence of Alan Ball is surely felt in every episode of season six thus far.

She has proven to be an excellent conversationalist and I am certain she will make a great addition to our already successful morning franchise.”

So, what did you think when you heard Amanda Seyfried would be playing porn star Linda Lovelace? Chances are we shared the same reaction which wasn’t necessarily positive. But now that RADiUS-TWC is giving us a look at Seyfried in Lovelace…maybe that initial reaction was wrong.
Directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the cast includes Seyfried, Peter Sarsgaard, Hank Azaria, Wes Bentley, Adam Brody, Bobby Cannavale, James Franco, Debi Mazar, Chris Noth, Robert Patrick, Eric Roberts, Chloe Sevigny, Sharon Stone, and Juno Temple.
The Plot:
In 1972 — before the internet, before the porn explosion — Deep Throat was a phenomenon: the first scripted pornographic theatrical feature film, featuring a story, some jokes, and an unknown and unlikely star, Linda Lovelace. Escaping a strict religious family, Linda discovered freedom and the high-life when she fell for and married charismatic hustler Chuck Traynor. As Linda Lovelace she became an international sensation—less centerfold fantasy than a charming girl-next-door with an impressive capacity for fellatio.
Fully inhabiting her new identity, Linda became an enthusiastic spokesperson for sexual freedom and uninhibited hedonism. Six years later, she presented another, utterly contradictory, narrative to the world — and herself – as the survivor of a far darker story.
Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) gets professorial as a scientist investigating giant Kaiju (huge creatures who are destroying coastal cities) in the sci-fi action thriller, Pacific Rim, from writer/director Guillermo del Toro. And while his character is charged with helping to find a way to beat the beasts, Day also provides the film with some much-needed comic relief between all of the massive creature vs robot fight sequences.
Talking about his role, Day tells us that the finished film is even better than he could have anticipated.
Was Pacific Rim everything you imagined a big movie to be?
Charlie Day: “It definitely surpassed my imagination in every way. I think we all have this sort of misconception about these big movies, that you go to a studio and they cover you with ping pong balls and you stand in front of a green screen. It couldn’t have been more different than that. Every time I went to work, there was some massive, elaborate set that Guillermo had designed that was practical, whether the ceiling was caving in in the middle of the shot or there was going to be a car that was flipped over my head. It was really a roller coaster ride of every time I thought that a set or sequence was massive, we did something even bigger, more over the top.”
How about as far as the scale of production and wait time?
Charlie Day: “Yeah, it moved faster than I thought. Of course, I’m used to moving extraordinarily fast with It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia but I was surprised at how quickly they were able to set up these huge sequences and I think they were oftentimes doing two things at once, a B camera unit doing some other massive thing and Guillermo would bounce around. They were as quick as they were massive.”
What was the laboratory set like?
Charlie Day: “The laboratory set was incredible. Everything was practical. All those organs were made out of…I’m not sure I want to ask what they were made out of. They moved, they oozed, they pussed, they secreted. There were lots of little jars of things that all seemed and smelled a little too real, and everything worked, all sorts of buttons and knobs. It was a really exquisite set.”
How did Guillermo direct you?
Charlie Day: “Well, there are almost two different parts of the movie for me. There’s the beginning part of the movie where he was a little bit hands off and I think I’ve been told that this is rare for him, where he would let me be sort of loose and rough around the edges and try things different ways. Then as I get more beat up and the experience becomes more harrowing for the character, then we get a little bit more detailed and more and more specific. He would describe some of the action that he wanted you to do, something physical he would walk you through how he saw your body being in a way, almost like directing the actual physicality sometimes.”
How long did it take to put on the Kaiju tattoos?
Charlie Day: “Let’s see, the first couple times it was about three, three and a half hours in the makeup chair but then they developed a technique to do it slightly quicker, so I think all in all it only took about an hour or two.”
Do you imagine it would still be a cool thing to be a fan of these Kaijus even if it were really apocalyptic?
Charlie Day: “I do imagine that there would be people who would be fans of the Kaiju, even if it were apocalyptic. I think there’s always a fascination with death and destruction that people have.”

When shooting begins this fall on Starz’s Outlander series it will be with Sam Heughan in the lead role of ‘Jamie Fraser.’ Based on Diana Gabaldon’s bestselling seven-book series, Outlander is being brought to the small screen by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: The Next Generation) who’s adapting Gabaldon’s work and executive producing the series with Jim Kohlberg.
Starz is aiming for a 2014 premiere of season one.
Announcing the casting of Heughan, Moore stated: “From the very beginning, I knew the part of Jamie Fraser would be difficult to cast. I had no one in mind for the part. I knew that someone would just come into the audition and be Jamie Fraser. And that’s what Sam did.”
Added author Diana Gabaldon: “Oh. My. God. That man is a Scot to the bone and Jamie Fraser to the heart. Having seen Sam Heughan not just act, but be Jamie, I feel immensely grateful to the production team for their painstaking attention to the soul of the story and characters.”
The Plot: In Outlander, Jamie Fraser strikes up a passionate affair with Claire Randall, a married combat nurse from 1945 who is mysteriously swept back in time to 1743. Armed with sheer grit and enduring strength, he is a strapping young Scottish clan lord with a complicated past and a disarming sense of humor.
He is intelligent, principled, and, by 18th-century standards, educated and worldly, with a tenderness and compassion that stands out in contrast to his contemporaries. A natural leader of men, he has no political ambitions or desire for battlefield glories. Instead, he wishes to remove the price on his head and return to his family’s ancestral farm.
