Eight-time Grammy winner Usher is the latest artist set to transform theaters into mini-concert halls. Usher: Rendezvous in Paris will launch a limited run in theaters beginning September 12, 2024.
Anthony Mandler directed the concert film, which was filmed during Usher’s eight 2023 performances in Paris. AMC Theatres Distribution, Trafalgar Releasing, and Sony Music Vision partnered on the production.
“Paris was a special experience for me as an entertainer and for my fans,” stated Usher. “I hope those who weren’t able to make it in person get to experience how special it was. As for those of you who were, I hope you experience the show and see what it takes to get there through a different lens.”
Tickets go on sale beginning August 6, 2024.
“For 30 years, Usher has captivated and entertained audiences through his music and concerts. Just a few months ago, he drew rave reviews for his stunning performance in front of 129 million people during the Super Bowl Half-Time Show. Bringing his unparalleled concert experience to movie theatres for his fans around the world is a perfect fit for AMC Theatres Distribution,” said Adam Aron, Chairman and CEO, AMC Theatres.

Usher, Mandler, and Ron Laffitte serve as producers. Executive producers include Kingdom Films’ Aakomon Jones and Angelo Gopee, Arcovision’s Kwesi Collisson, and Sony Music’s Tom Mackay, Richard Story, and Krista Wegener.
“Usher: Rendezvous in Paris incorporates the essence of his landmark cultural phenomenon Vegas residencies into a seductive French touch confession. Captured during Paris Fashion Week at La Seine Musicale, the film features chart-topping hits including ‘Yeah!,’ ‘My Boo,’ ‘Love In This Club,’ and more from Usher’s 30-year career, performed with never-before-seen costumes and state-of-the-art lighting and special effects,” reads the official synopsis. “In addition to bringing the vibrant live concert experience to screen, Usher gives audiences a glimpse inside life beyond the stage – creating a global moment that moviegoers won’t want to miss.”
The stars of Hellboy: The Crooked Man – Jack Kesy, Jefferson White, and Adeline Rudolph – joined director Brian Taylor and Hellboy creator Mike Mignola at the San Diego Comic-Con to launch the official trailer and pump up Hellboy fans. The trailer confirms this take on the character leans heavy into horror, and sticks closely to the source material.
In addition to the panel, the Hellboy: The Crooked Man cast took part in roundtable interviews in support of the film’s upcoming fall release. (The exact date hasn’t been confirmed.) Here’s what Kesy had to say about getting into character, the costume, and the intense action scenes.
Jack Kesy Hellboy: The Crooked Man Interview
Was it hard to move in the costume? Was it heavy?
Jack Kesy: ”It wasn’t so much it was heavy; it was uncomfortable as long hours went on and working every day. I don’t want to sound like a wah-wah-wah, you know, but it’s tough. It’s tough. And, you know, sometimes in Bulgaria you’d have a day that it’s like 95 degrees. And then we go in the woods and it’s like 40 degrees. And so, the sweat would turn to ice, so to speak.”
Did you do your own stunts?
Jack Kesy: “Absolutely. Not all of them, but maybe 80%? 85. I mean, I put my head through the wall over and over. I had drywall all over my hair, so that counts. […] I’ve got a pretty good left. I know how to roll. I’ve done a little bit of fighting.”
How did you react the first time you saw yourself in the full costume?
Jack Kesy: “Honestly, it was disbelief. Just from the minute I got the phone call, because it came out of nowhere. Like all good things come, I believe. So, seeing myself transform, I was like, ‘I can’t believe I’m doing this.’ And it was a little nerve-wracking at first because it’s such a one-off thing. I’m used to being this, not acting with all that. I was like, ‘How am I going to do this?’ Just took it one day at a time, scene by scene.”
How did you get into the right mindset to play Hellboy?
Jack Kesy: “You know, honestly, it was close to home. I like to chain smoke, unfortunately still. I’m a little bit of a wisecrack. It came right off the paper, and I was like, ‘You know, I’m going to have a lot of fun with this.’”
Are you into comics?
Jack Kesy: ”No, honestly, I’ve dabbled. Honestly, I’m not a die-hard comic book guy. I learned a lot on the job, I learned a lot from fans who were actually writing me, ‘Make sure you do this, make sure you do that, and do that.’ It’s awesome, amazing. I still write them back, you know. They’re awesome. I love Hellboy fans.”
Are you a horror fan?
Jack Kesy: ”I’m not particularly a horror fan, but I like horror movies., I like a little bit of everything. I’m not prejudiced toward anything, like whatever’s good.”
Did you watch the original films?
Jack Kesy: ”I saw the first one years ago. I was actually in Comic-Con, I think, nine years ago with Guillermo del Toro at my first Comic-Con. So here I am again, nine years later, some connective tissue, without him. But it’s just funny how life goes.”
What sets this Hellboy apart from the other Hellboy films?
Jack Kesy: ”I mean, it’s so different. It’s pulled directly from the comic, right? From Mike’s comic book, almost frame by frame. Outside of Bobby Joe’s character and a couple of other scenes that were stitched together, it’s pretty much straight out of the comic book. It’s a lot darker, moodier, cinematic, I suppose, in a different way and more dope. It’s grimier. More spooky.”
Can you talk about your training and doing stunts in full makeup?
Jack Kesy: “Yeah, there’s nothing that really prepares you for that. I mean, I’m a pretty athletic guy. I used to fight, I was in the Marines, so I’m used to rumbling and tumbling around. But nothing really prepares you for the discomfort. You just have to get comfortable being uncomfortable and making it your own.”
Did the costume make you change the way you walk and move?
Jack Kesy: “It changed it for you. You know, the prosthetic went all the way down to your kind of groin area. It was super tight. Well, it started off super tight. By the end of that, I lost 15 pounds.”

The Plot, Courtesy of Ketchup Entertainment:
From the visionary director, writer, and producer Brian Taylor (Crank, Happy!), this film brings a chilling tale of survival against the forces of darkness. Set in the 1950s, rookie BPRD agent Bobbie Jo Song finds herself in a dire situation when tasked with delivering a spider to the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. She must enlist the help of Hellboy to confront the malevolent Crooked Man, who has returned to Earth to harvest souls for the devil.
Paramount+’s San Diego Comic-Con Star Trek: Strange New Worlds panel featured executive producers Alex Kurtzman, Akiva Goldsman, and Henry Alonso Myers, along with series stars Ethan Peck and Rebecca Romijn. In addition to answering questions from fans, the panel debuted a lengthy first clip from the upcoming third season of the popular series. It’s nearly impossible to describe the clip; it’s much more fun to just soak it in.
The panel attendees were also the first to find out that Cillian O’Sullivan (In From The Cold) will play Dr. Roger Korby. The character was first played by Michael Strong in the original Star Trek series. O’Sullivan joins as a recurring guest star.
“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is based on the years Captain Christopher Pike manned the helm of the U.S.S. Enterprise. The series follows Captain Pike, Science Officer Spock, Number One and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise, in the years before Captain Kirk boarded the starship, as they explore new worlds around the galaxy,” reads Paramount+’s synopsis.

Q&A from the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds panel at SDCC:
Max’s Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? dives into the tragic story of two beautiful little girls who were abducted and brutally murdered in 2012. The trailer features snippets of family members and investigators discussing the horrifying case which still hasn’t been solved.
Director Dylan Sires sheds light on the story from a unique prospective. Sires was a former news photographer on the case and Taken Together marks his debut as a filmmaker.
“Known as the case that haunts the Midwest, the series dives into the haunting 2012 double abduction of two cousins, 10-year-old Lyric Cook-Morrissey and 8-year-old Elizabeth Collins, in Evansdale, Iowa,” reads Max’s synopsis. “With over seven years of exclusive access and insider interviews conducted by Sires, including an additional young girl who escaped her kidnapper against all odds, compelling footage of the two victim’s families over a crucial passage of time and new information around the case, Taken Together: Who Killed Lyric and Elizabeth? offers a searing and unforgettable lens on this unimaginable crime.”
Maven Creative Media produced the docuseries for Investigation Discovery. Executive producers include Jessica Sebastian-Dayeh, Donnie Eichar, and Five All In The Fifth’s Douglas Banker and Alex Garinger. Kristian Day and Nedzad Muhamedagic serve as producers.
The three-part documentary series premieres on August 8, 2024. Max released the following details on each episode:
Episode 1 – The mysterious abduction of cousins Lyric Cook and Elizabeth Collins in July 2012 devastates two families, one of whom falls under suspicion. The mystery deepens when hunters find the girls’ bodies.
Episode 2 – Another shocking double abduction, not far from the location of the Evansdale, Iowa case, sparks fear in the community and puts Michael Klunder, a local, under the spotlight. Dayton abduction survivor Dezi Hughes gives an exclusive interview.
Episode 3 – Filmmaker Dylan Sires continues to search for new information and investigate all angles to help Elizabeth’s father. New details come to light, which leads to Drew Collins confronting a man who could place a suspect in Evansdale around the time of the murder.

The ‘Those About to Die’ cast and executive producer Roland Emmerich at the San Diego Comic-Con (Photo by: Christine Bartolucci/Peacock)
Those About to Die director and executive producer Roland Emmerich was quick to point out that his filmography includes more than disaster epics. During our roundtable interview at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Emmerich reminded a journalist that he’s also the director of The Patriot, Anonymous, and Stonewall. That said, Peacock’s Those About to Die seems to fit snugly in his wheelhouse, given its epic scale and spectacular action scenes.
Those About to Die premiered on July 18, 2024 on Peacock with the release of all 10 episodes. Season one stars Iwan Rheon as Tenax, Sara Martins as Cala, Tom Hughes as Titus, Jojo Macari as Domitian, Moe Hashim as Kwame, Johannes Haukur Johannesson as Viggo, Rupert Penry-Jones as Marsus, Gabriella Pession as Antonia, and Dimitri Leonidas as Scorpus.
Roland Emmerich Those About to Die Interview
What was the appeal of a series set in Ancient Rome?
Roland Emmerich: “I think there was no show really, like for example, Rome, was like kind of a show where there was no sports, only war. And I wanted to do something which encompasses everything.”
Why focus on this specific story and characters?
Roland Emmerich: “It was mainly because Vespasian built the Flavian amphitheater which was renamed as the Colosseum. And also, on top of it, he was the first general who came from a family of moor breeders, and that tells you everything. And the last Roman from the Julio-Claudian dynasty was Nero. That was the year of the four emperors, they call it, and he was the last man standing. He reigned and he built. You know, he did something very, very smart. He erased the Golden House that Nero built on that spot and built the Flavian amphitheater, which he never saw how it was opened, but his son Titus opened it.”
The series has both the more intimate character drama as well as these big, massive, amphitheater events. How did you balance those elements?
Roland Emmerich: “It was a lot of writing, you know? It’s like when you don’t leap into the characters, you’re kind of totally lost. So, you have to give everyone a goal and have them kind of fight for these moments and for these goals. And then naturally you need also the excitement of the big races and the big fights, and then the opening of the Florian amphitheater.”
Which character’s voice do you hear in your head? Who do you identify with the most?
Roland Emmerich: “Well, I mean, it’s a super difficult question because I like all my actors. But if I would like kind of say a person I really, really more see myself in is Kwame. Because he’s like this guy who you will say, he’s way too short, but he’s incredibly fast and he has this person with him, his mom, and they together figured it out.”
Do you think he’s the character most viewers latch onto?
Roland Emmerich: “I think they will like Scorpus a lot, but I hope naturally that they love also Tenax and Cala as a pair because they have a very interesting story. And the sons as well, Emperor Vespasian’s sons, because they’re both so different.”
How much was practical versus CGI?
Roland Emmerich: “A lot was real. But we had to kind of naturally, you know, use a lot of CGI. For example, whenever you see a wide shot of the Circus Maximus, for example, it’s always CGI. But then we had a relatively big set, which we mainly used the sets of the last Ben Hur remake. But there was nothing there and whatever was there was wrong. So, I kind of just said, ‘Okay, let’s use only the grounds.’
We built a great, kind of size-wise, set for the Imperial Platform and also where you could do some stuff with many, many people. But everything else was in CGI. But even the set of the Imperial Platform was massive. It was massive! And then the only thing that we did, we built inside – they had a really, really big stage and they shot many, many big movies there – I shot all the stuff of the Coliseum inside.”
If you were a Roman God, which God would you be?
Roland Emmerich: “Bacchus.”

The Those About to Die Plot, Courtesy of Peacock: Those About to Die is an epic drama set in the corrupt world of the spectacle-driven gladiatorial competition, exploring a side of Ancient Rome never before told – the dirty business of entertaining the masses, giving the mob what they want most… blood and sport. The series introduces an ensemble of characters from all corners of the Roman Empire who collide at the explosive intersection of sports, politics, and dynasties.
Animal Kingdom‘s Jake Weary and Orange is the New Black‘s Dascha Polanco have joined the season two cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead: Dead City. Atypical‘s Keir Gilchrist and Law & Order: SVU‘s Pooya Mohseni are also on board the new season.

“The Walking Dead: Dead City follows fan-favorite characters Maggie (Cohan) and Negan (Morgan) as they travel into a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, long ago cut off from the mainland. The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror,” reads AMC’s synopsis. “In season two, in the growing war for control of Manhattan, Maggie and Negan find themselves trapped on opposite sides. As their paths intertwine, they come to see that the way out for both is more complicated and harrowing than they ever imagined.”

FX has given the ensemble comedy Snowflakes a series order, with a 2025 premiere date targeted. The comedy comes from Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, with both attached as writers and executive producers.
The new series stars Malik Elassal as Samir, Lucy Freyer as Billie, Jack Innanen as Paul Baker, Amita Rao as Issa, and Owen Thiele as Anton. Per FX: “Snowflakes is a twenty-something ensemble comedy following a group of codependent housemates trying to be good people, despite being neither ‘good’ nor ‘people’ yet.”
“We are excited about the exceptional cast and powerhouse comedy team we’ve assembled for Snowflakes,” said Nick Grad, President, FX Entertainment. “Not only does it give us a chance to introduce our audience to Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw’s brilliant comedic voice, but we also get the opportunity to work again with Nick, Jonathan and Stefani, all incredibly talented veterans of signature FX comedies.”
In addition to Kronengold and Shaw (The Tonight Show), season one executive producers include Nick Kroll (Big Mouth, The League), Alicia Van Couvering, Jonathan Krisel (Portlandia, Baskets), and Stefani Robinson (Atlanta, What We Do in the Shadows). Krisel directed the series’ pilot.
“We’re so grateful to be telling this story about a group of friends navigating the hardest, horniest time of life together,” said Kronengold and Shaw. “FX comedies have defined our generation, and we can’t wait to show them the consequences.”
Snowflakes is produced by FX Productions.
“Ben and Rebecca are massively gifted writers, our cast is beyond talented and the team we have assembled around them is the best,” said Kroll. “I cannot wait to help make this show and give many more quotes for press releases.”
(FX announced in April 2025 that the new title is Adults.)
AMC’s Interview with the Vampire panel at the San Diego Comic-Con debuted a smoldering teaser for the upcoming third season that’s four minutes of Lestat channeling his inner rock star. Fans can expect the new season to be Lestat-centric after a second season that found him relegated to a supporting player role. The teaser shows Lestat (Sam Reid) being interviewed by Daniel (Eric Bogosian), occasionally bloody and nearly always staring straight into the camera.
“Resentful of the perfunctory portrayal in the trashy bestseller Interview With The Vampire, the Vampire Lestat sets his story straight in a way only the Vampire Lestat can — by starting a band and going on tour. Gabrielle. Nicholas. Magnus. Marius. Those Who Must Be Kept. They join Louis, Armand, Molloy, Sam, Raglan, Fareed, and others we can’t tell you about yet on a sexy pilgrimage across space, time and trauma,” reads AMC’s synopsis. “No auto-tuning. No trigger warnings. All feels amplified.”
In addition to Sam Reid and Eric Bogosian, the second season starred Jacob Anderson as Louis de Pointe du Lac, Assad Zaman as Armand, and Delainey Hayles as Claudia. Rolin Jones serves as creator, writer, executive producer, and showrunner. Additional executive producers include Mary Johnson (overseer of AMC’s Anne Rice Immortal Universe), Mark Taylor, and Christopher Rice. Author Anne Rice has a posthumous executive producer credit.

A look back at season two: “Over two seasons, Interview with the Vampire has attracted a loyal base of passionate fans and widespread critical acclaim, with the rare distinction of receiving 98-point scores for both its first and second seasons on Rotten Tomatoes. In season two, in the year 2022, the vampire Louis de Pointe du Lac (Anderson) recounts his life story to journalist Daniel Molloy (Eric Bogosian). Picking up from the bloody events in New Orleans in 1940 when Louis and teen fledgling Claudia (Hayles) conspired to kill the Vampire Lestat de Lioncourt (Reid), Louis tells of his adventures in Europe, a quest to discover Old World Vampires and the Theatre Des Vampires in Paris, with Claudia, and it is in Paris that Louis first meets the Vampire Armand (Zaman).”
Comic-Con panel attendees were also the first to enjoy a blooper reel from season two before it made its way online.

Marvel Studios’ Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t just break records over its opening weekend; it crushed them. Opening with $205 million domestically and $438 million globally, the critically acclaimed action comedy took over the top spot for the highest-grossing R-rated film opening in box office history. It also set a new record for the highest July opening weekend and moved into second place on the list of third installment opening weekends. (Avengers: Endgame holds the record.)
“I know people are expecting the funny; they’re going to get it. They’re expecting the action; they’re going to get it,” said writer, producer, and director Shawn Levy. “But the movie has a warmth as a result of the story we tell between these two guys where this unlikely friendship is built. That’s the piece I think people aren’t expecting.”
Marvel Studios also hosted San Diego Comic-Con’s biggest panel. The packed Hall H audience was the first to learn of Robert Downey Jr’s casting as Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday, to be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. The Russos are also directing Avengers: Secret Wars, with Doomsday targeting a May 2026 release and Secret Wars opening in May 2027.
“Being able to create stories and explore characters within the Marvel Universe fulfilled a lifelong dream of ours, and we discovered a powerful connection with audiences in each film that we made. We’re thrilled to collaborate once again with Kevin, Lou and the entire Marvel team to bring this epic adventure in storytelling to new and surprising places for both the fans and ourselves,” said The Russo Brothers.
SDCC attendees were also the first to see the Fantastic Four – Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Vanessa Kirby (Sue Storm/The Invisible Woman), Joseph Quinn (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch), and Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Ben Grimm/Thing) – together on stage. The first film of the revamped franchise is now officially titled Fantastic Four: First Steps.

A full choral performance of “Like a Prayer” welcomed the excited crowd with dancing Deadpool variants, which ended when Marvel Studios producer and president Kevin Feige looked for Peterpool amongst the variants, calling Rob Delaney, who stars in the film as Peter, to the stage. Delaney joined Feige as the showcase’s MC, mentioning the surprise Deadpool & Wolverine screening for con-goers Thursday, and the massive drone and fireworks show over San Diego’s Petco Park that followed.
Captain America: Brave New World – With Sam Wilson about to make his big screen debut as Captain America in Captain America: Brave New World, Delaney welcomed to the stage Cap himself, Anthony Mackie. They all shared some cosmic details about the upcoming feature film that sees Galactus and Silver Surfer target Earth for destruction—and revealed the movie’s full title: The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But then Hall H was overtaken by none other than the Fantasticar soaring over the crowd, drawing massive cheers as the screens were taken over by a retro-futurist vision of New York City.
