Conroy was nominated for an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a Movie Emmy for her role as Moira O’Hara in the first season of AHS, but this is an entirely new character. Murphy tweeted this in response to a comment from a fan:
@AnAvidTVWatcher A very different role for Frannie this year. Much more powerful…and all-knowing. #feministhorroricon”

This year’s Hugo Award for the Best Graphic Story went to Ursula Vernon for her comic, Digger. Digger‘s win marks the first for Vernon and the first for the comic’s publisher, Sofawolf Press.
Speaking about her win, Vernon said, “I’m so honored and grateful to see my little wombat bring home a Hugo. Thanks to everyone who made Digger a success.”
Digger is the story of “a practical wombat trapped in a quirky fantasy world.” First published in 2003, the series finished up on the internet in 2010. Sofawolf Press then published the comic in six print volumes, concluding with volume six in summer 2011.
Sofawolf CEO Jeffery Eddy said, “We always knew Digger was exceptional, and it is our pleasure to have played a part in presenting it to the wider community and giving it the recognition it deserves.”
More on The Hugo Awards [Courtesy of Sofawolf]:
“The Hugo Awards are the popular awards for the field of science fiction and fantasy. They are awarded in a ceremony each year at the World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon), which this year was held in Chicago, Illinois. In 2009, the World Science Fiction Society, which administers the Hugo Awards, added a category for ‘Best Graphic Story,’ to be presented for five years as a trial to evaluate the breadth of content in that category in science fiction and fantasy. At the World Science Fiction Society’s meeting this weekend, the group voted to remove the five-year sunset clause and make the award for Best Graphic Story a permanent part of the Hugo slate.”

Two nights just weren’t enough for the third season premiere week of NBC’s The Voice, so the network’s expanded the event to three nights. Season three kicks off with auditions on September 10th, 11th, and the just-added 12th, all at 8pm. The judging panel from seasons one and two – Christina Aguilera, CeeLo Green, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton – return, as does host Carson Daly as well as social media correspondent Christina Milian.
Monday the 10th’s show will open with the judges demonstrating unity, performing together on stage. They’ll be singing “Start Me Up” before turning the spotlight over to this season’s potential contestants.
And for those expecting the same system in place for this season of The Voice, you’re in for a bit of a surprise as the selection process has been shaken some with coaches now able to ‘steal’ a singer from another team.
Here’s the Scoop on The Voice [Courtesy of NBC]:
– During the blind auditions, the decisions from the musician coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks. The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don’t get to see them — thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the artist’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the artist for his/her team. At this point, the coach’s chair will swivel so that he/she can face the artist he/she has selected. If more than one coach pushes their button, the power then shifts to the artist to choose which coach they want to work with. If no coach pushes their button, the artist is eliminated from the competition.
– Once the teams are set, the battle is on. Coaches will dedicate themselves to developing their team of artists, giving them advice, and sharing the secrets of their success along with the help from their celebrity advisers. During the battle rounds, the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other to sing the same song together in front of a studio audience. After the vocal battle, the coach must choose which of his/her singers will advance to the next round of competition, while the losing artist is available to be stolen by another coach.
– At the end of the battles, only the strongest members of each coach’s roster remain and proceed to the new knockout rounds. The artists will be paired again with a member of their team, but this time they find out only minutes before performing who they are being compared against. The artists each select their own song to perform individually, while their direct competitor watches and waits. They are vying for their coach’s confidence and decision to take them to the live shows. Their coach will choose the winner and the artist not selected will be sent home.
– In the final live performance phase of the competition, the top artists from each team will compete each week against each other during a live broadcast. The television audience will vote to save their favorite artists and the two artists with the lowest number of votes will be sent home each week. In the end, one will be named The Voice and will receive the grand prize of a recording contract.
