‘Hatfields & McCoys’ Soundtrack Details – Featuring Kevin Costner

Hatfields and McCoys Soundtrack

Madison Gate Records just released the soundtrack to Hatfields & McCoys, the History Channel miniseries starring Kevin Costner as Devil Anse Hatfield and Bill Paxton as Randall McCoy. Costner and his band Modern West are featured on Famous For Killing Each Other: Music From and Inspired by Hatfields & McCoys, with Costner and his group also responsible for writing the songs and producing the album.

The album features the miniseries’ theme song, “I Know These Hills,” as well as 18 other songs.

According to Costner, the album is “a musical picture of time and place with original songs and instrumentals that we hope can transport you back in time and perhaps help you feel the excitement I felt while filming this epic story. We weren’t trying to specifically recreate the music of that era. We wanted to capture the heart and the soul of the families who were torn apart in the Hatfields and McCoys feud. Even though the musical soul of our album is centered in the hills of Appalachia, in the time right after the Civil War, the feelings we tried to portray are universal.”

Famous For Killing Each Other: Music From and Inspired by Hatfields & McCoys Track List:

1. Hammer And Guns
2. How Deep The Water Runs
3. Late Dobro
4. I Know These Hills (feat. Sara Beck)
5. River Runs Red
6. I Look To No One
7. Hypnotic Heartbeats
8. The Old Oak Tree
9. I Will Lay You Down
10. Night Riders (John Debney)
11. Oh, Malley-Mae (Lily Costner & Modern West)
12. Cold Dark Morning
13. Intense
14. Killing Season
15. Lillie Dreams
16. Famous For Killing Each Other
17. Peace In The Valley
18. Ominous
19. Devil’s A Long Way From Home

The Plot of Hatfields & McCoys:

It’s the true American story of a legendary family feud – one that spanned decades and nearly launched a war between Kentucky and West Virginia. Hatfields & McCoys, a new three-part, six-hour scripted miniseries, showcases an all-star cast led by Academy® Award winner Kevin Costner and Golden Globe® nominee Bill Paxton starring as “Devil Anse” Hatfield and Randall McCoy, respectively. The miniseries premieres on May 28, 29 and 30, at 9 p.m. on HISTORY.

Following a successful screening at Cannes, Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the North American distribution rights to No starring Gael Garcia Bernal. No was written by Pedro Peirano and directed by Pablo Larrain, and is based on a true story.

The cast also includes Alfredo Castro, Antónia Zegers, Marcial Tagle, Néstor Cantillana, Jaime Vadell and Pascal Montero.

Announcing the acquisition, Sony Pictures Classics stated: “This movie is a masterfully engaging and energetic drama about politics and power, a tonic for the brain that is also a major entertainment. No establishes Pablo Larrain as a major international director and Gael Garcia Bernal gives his finest performance. We are also delighted to be back in business with our friends at Participant.”

The Plot:

When Chilean military dictator Augusto Pinochet, facing international pressure, calls for a referendum on his presidency in 1988, opposition leaders persuade a brash young advertising executive, Rene Saavedra (Gael García Bernal), to spearhead their campaign. With scant resources and constant scrutiny by the despot’s watchmen, Saavedra and his team devise an audacious plan to win the election and free their country from oppression.

Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth Read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’…Out Loud, On Camera

The cast of Snow White and the Huntsman proved they are good sports when asked to read passages from the erotic book, Fifty Shades of Grey. The novel started out as Twilight fan fiction and has mushroomed into a bestselling trilogy. And given the fact it was inspired by the characters of Twilight, it’s only fitting Kristen Stewart took a stab at reading sections aloud during an interview on MTV.

Stewart wasn’t the only Snow White and the Huntsman star asked to take a crack at the book. Chris Hemsworth (currently seen on screen in The Avengers), Charlize Theron, and Sam Claflin all took turns reading – with varying results.

Spotlight On Country Artists Joey and Rory

Rory Feek and Joey Martin

One morning at Marcy Jo’s Mealhouse, the meat-and-three restaurant owned by Rory Feek’s wife Joey Martin and Rory’s sister Marcy Gary in unincorporated Pottsville, Tenn., Joey was running late because she was trying to rescue a neighbor’s calf who had wandered onto their farm.

“I saw Joey go out this morning, and I came outside about 15 minutes later and I couldn’t see her anywhere. Then way over the ridge, I see her head pop up every few seconds and she was stripping,” Rory said, with a laugh. “When I went out to see what was going on, she was there with her jacket wrapped around a 6-hour-old baby calf that was freezing, trying to warm it up. So I tweeted about it this morning. I wrote, ‘My wife: the artist and cow whisperer. Another reason I love her.’”

Rory is, of course, known for his trademark blue bib overalls and blond pompadour. He owns a ’52 Oldsmobile and loves Country Music. When Joey is not on the road with him, she helps Marcy cook and serve fried chicken, garlic mashed potatoes, green beans and chocolate Coca-Cola cakes at the Mealhouse, a onetime 19th-century general store that had been used as a seasonal fruit stand until it was abandoned. After the trio purchased it, Joey and Rory did most of the renovations to it as well as to the home that sits on their 8-acre farm, where they raise Rory’s bull, Shooter. Every June, the Feeks host more than a thousand of their closest friends and fans at their annual ”Bib and Buckle Fest,” with barbecue and music in their own backyard. Seriously, can you get any more Country than that?

Embracing who they are was central to establishing them as one of Country Music’s top new vocal duos during Season One of CMT’s “Can You Duet.” “The PR and label people that we work with are fine with it, but Nashville, in particular the music business, has worked very hard over the past couple of decades to distance itself from the ‘Hee Haw’ stereotype,” Feek said. “Some people are actually a little embarrassed by our heritage, and overalls reinforce that image they are trying to shed. They want to shed the Country image from Country Music, and apparently I cause some problems with that. But I wore these for years before I started performing, so it wasn’t like I was just trying to create something that wasn’t me.”

“Rory has a very unique look — and I don’t just say that because I cut his hair,” Martin said, smiling. “I think it’s a timeless look. It’s just his persona and his profile. Even when you take him out of the overalls, he still has an image. We were in California one time and somebody came over to the table where we were sitting. This guy had a surfboard in his hand and he said, ‘Oh, my gosh, I’m a huge fan of your songwriting. I love what you guys do.”

“After ‘Can You Duet’ was over, it wasn’t long before we would be walking down the street, and somebody would pass us and then turn around and drive all the way back to talk to us because they recognized us from a block away,” he added. “That’s when we realized that, wow, maybe they’re right. This thing might be a pretty strong branding thing visually, even though it wasn’t something we consciously planned. And Joey is usually dressed like a cowgirl, so those two elements have worked well together. We have made all of our music videos at our home too, or at the restaurant and around our lives, using nothing but the people in our lives — no actors and no sets. That has helped us to keep it authentic.”

“A lot of very talented artists who come to town don’t have a very definable image, whether it’s through their music or the way they look or the way they dress,” said Joey + Rory’s publicist, Craig Campbell, President, Campbell Entertainment Group. “So you try to dig into who they are, their background or hobbies — something that can give you a little direction to go. It’s got to be something that is already there that you build on. It can’t be just fabricated out of nothing or fans will be able to tell.”

“Country Music is a great big world,” Feek concluded. “Instead of having to market to the fringe all the time to make it extremely hip and cool, we can also spend a lot of our efforts marketing to people right here in Middle America. Those people matter too. They don’t live on the coasts, but it’s a huge segment of our audience, and those people are not embarrassed by our heritage. I know the industry people are just trying to appeal to a broader audience, but we can’t please everybody. If we are not careful, we can end up losing our core audience by trying to be all things to all people.”

Funny or Die Video: Fifty Shades of Grey with Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez reads Fifty Shades of Grey – the erotic Twilight fan fiction that became a bestselling book trilogy – and lusts after a painter played by Nick Kroll in this new video from FunnyOrDie. Gomez reads into every one of the painter’s actions, imagining herself as the female love interest in the bestseller soon to be a major motion picture (just love how that line never gets old, right?).

In the real world, fan campaigns have already formed backing a wide variety of actors to fill the role of Christian Grey. Alexander Skarsgard, Ian Somerhalder, the Hemsworth brothers (Chris and Liam), Zac Efron, Armie Hammer, and Wentworth Miller all have their supporters. Even Ryan Gosling seems to be mentioned a lot, although I think convincing him to tackle the lead role would be nearly impossible.

Lawless Clip and New Posters with Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy

A short clip from Lawless featuring Tom Hardy and Shia LaBeouf as bootlegging brothers has debuted on Hulu. Starring Hardy, LaBeouf, Jason Clarke, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, Dane DeHaan, and Gary Oldman, Lawless is based on author Matt Bondurant’s fictionalized account of his family, The Wettest County in the World.

Watch the clip:

The Plot:

Lawless is the true story of the infamous Bondurant Brothers: three bootlegging siblings who made a run for the American Dream in Prohibition-era Virginia.

In the mountains of Franklin County, Virginia, the Bondurant brothers are the stuff of legend. The eldest, Howard (Jason Clarke), managed to survive the carnage of the Great War, but he returned home unmoored by what he had seen and done. His brother Forrest (Tom Hardy) nearly died from the Spanish Flu that took his parents. He beat back death with a quiet strength and ferocious, visceral invincibility that came to define him. Jack (Shia LaBeouf) is the youngest sibling, impressionable, sensitive, smart.

Times are tough and jobs are scarce, but the Bondurants are entrepreneurs and have built a thriving local business by concocting an intense and popular brand of moonshine. But Franklin County’s bootlegging days are about to end with the arrival of Special Deputy Charlie Rakes (Guy Pearce) from Chicago. The new “law” Rakes brings is lethal and corrupt and will challenge everything the brothers have built and represent. But while the rest of the county gives in to Rakes’ ruthless crackdown, the Bondurants will bow to no one. As the family rallies to fight Rakes, the fraternal dynamic shifts. Jack’s ambitions and enterprises alter the balance of power between the brothers as he careens into manhood. Dreaming of expensive suits, fast cars and beautiful women, Jack starts his own bootlegging operation, with his friend Cricket (Dane DeHaan) helping him to soup up cars and build stills – even against Forrest’s wishes. Jack starts to prosper, even selling his moonshine to Floyd Banner (Gary Oldman), the big city gangster he idolizes. The lives of the Bondurants are soon complicated by the appearance of two beautiful women: the exotic, steadfast Maggie (Jessica Chastain), who brings a secret past with her and catches the eye of the guarded Forrest – and the quiet, pious Bertha (Mia Wasikowska), who slowly warms to Jack’s charms and channels her own rebellious streak. Jack’s confidence however soon trumps his good sense, and the consequences will test the brothers’ loyalty and endangers them all. Determined to do whatever is necessary to fight for what is theirs, the Bondurants take up arms and confront the corrupt forces of the law in a faceoff to determine who controls the wettest county in the world.
