Dermot Mulroney and Evan Jonigkeit Join ‘The Hunting Wives’

Starz’s The Hunting Wives has added Dermot Mulroney and Evan Jonigkeit as season one series regulars. They join Malin Akerman and Brittany Snow in the eight-episode drama, based on May Cobb’s novel.

Filming’s expected to begin this spring in North Carolina. Starz* hasn’t announced a target premiere date.

Hightown‘s Rebecca Cutter is adapting Cobb’s novel and will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Additional executive producers include Author Cobb and 3 Arts Entertainment’s Erwin Stoff (The Serpent Queen).

The Hunting Wives “tells the story of Sophie and her family’s move from the East Coast to deep East Texas, where she succumbs to socialite Margo Bank’s irresistible charms – and finds her life consumed by obsession, seduction, and murder,” reads Starz’s synopsis. “Mulroney will play Jed Banks, a fifth-generation oil man, alpha millionaire, and the husband of trophy wife Margo (Malin Åkerman). Above all else, he’s a ladies man who loves nothing more than bringing guest stars into their marital bed. And although he’s considering a run for Texas governor, he’s determined not to let public service get in the way of their good time.

Jonigkeit will play Graham O’Neil, Sophie’s (Brittany Snow) safe, solid, and somewhat clueless husband. He loves his wife but does not know how to handle her emotional baggage. He thinks the move to Texas will help Sophie, and he encourages her involvement with Margo – but he has no idea of the Pandora’s Box it will open.”

Dermot Mulroney’s recent credits include Lights Out, Breakwater, Anyone But You, Ruthless, and Secret Invasion. Jonigkeit’s resume includes Weak Layers, Somebody I Used to Know, Archive 81, and Sweetbitter.

(* The Hunting Wives moved to Netflix.)

David Attenborough Presents ‘Mammals,’ A New 6-Part Docuseries

BBC America, AMC+, and Sir David Attenborough (Seven Worlds, One Planet) turn their attention to mammals with their latest natural history series, Mammals. The six-part series will premiere this summer, 20 years after Attenborough’s Life of Mammals.

“Being mammals ourselves, the animals featured in the series and the stories told about them are instantly relatable. It’s impossible not to admire a mother capuchin monkey who’s able to provide her baby with a drink in a dry, sun-baked forest or a chimpanzee father giving his family a lesson in finding honey buried underground,” said Roger Webb, executive producer. “This connection to us, makes Mammals an incredibly engaging and compelling piece of television – one that will also lead us to question our role in the lives of the wild mammals we share the planet with.”

Scott Alexander served as a producer of the docuseries from BBC Studios Natural History Unit and co-produced by BBC AMERICA, ZDF, Youku, and France Televisions.

“Mammals includes animals like the great apes, the big cats, dolphins, whales as well as the mythical wolverine and adorable tenrec – who wouldn’t want to make a series with such a wonderful cast of animals,” said Alexander.

Mammals Sealion

Series Description, Courtesy of BBC America and AMC+:

“Attenborough revisits this extraordinary group of animals in a major new series for BBC America: Mammals. Full of new, never-before-seen behaviors, this series offers fascinating insights into the most successful animal group in the world. From the tiny Etruscan shrew to the giant blue whale, Mammals will reveal the secrets of their success and how their winning design, incredible adaptability, unrivaled intelligence, and unique sociability have all contributed to their remarkable rise.

By weight, less than 6% of today’s mammals are wild animals, and many species face extinction. As well as giving viewers an exciting new perspective on a remarkable group of animals, the series will also highlight many of the problems faced by mammals in today’s rapidly changing world.

Each episode explores a different environment: Dark, Cold, Heat, Water, Forest, and The New Wild – an episode that explores the ingenious ways mammals are adapting to a world dominated by humans, arguably the most successful mammal of all. And each episode covers a range of remarkable mammals – from the miniature tenrecs of Madagascar to the humpback whales of the Indian ocean.”

Sandra Bernhard (Pose) and Heather Morris guest star on CBS’s So Help Me Todd season two episode three. Directed by Daniel Willis from a script by Steve Paul Martinez, episode three – “The Queen of Courts” – will air on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at 9pm ET/PT.

Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden leads the cast as Margaret Wright and Skylar Astin stars as the titular Todd. Season two also features Madeline Wise as Allison, Tristen J. Winger as Lyle, Inga Schlingmann as Susan, and Rosa Arredondo as Francey.

“The Queen of Courts” Plot: Margaret and Todd defend the “Queen of Hearts” (Sandra Bernhard), a notoriously unscrupulous lawyer accused of orchestrating a fraudulent accident that resulted in the death of a “fake victim.” Heather Morris guest stars as gift shop clerk Judy Maxon.

The Plot, Courtesy of CBS:

So Help Me Todd stars Academy Award winner Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright and Todd, her talented but scruffy, aimless son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. As the black sheep of the well-heeled Wright family, Todd is a laidback, quick-thinking, excellent former private detective who fell on hard times after his flexible interpretation of the law got his license revoked.

Margaret’s penchant for excellence and strict adherence to the law is at complete odds with Todd’s scrappy methods of finding his way through sticky situations: by the seat of his wrinkled pants. When Todd inadvertently teams with his mother on a case, she’s surprised to find herself duly impressed by – and proud of – his crafty ability to sleuth out information with his charm and his wide-ranging tech savvy. At last, Margaret sees a way to put her son on a “suitable” path to living an adult, financially solvent life she approves of, and she asks him to join her firm. Todd agrees, since it means getting his license back and once again doing the job he excels at and loves.

Mother and son working together is a big first step toward mending their fragile, dysfunctional relationship, and they may even come away with a better understanding of each other at this pivotal point in their lives. But whether Todd and Margaret will be able to accept each other for who they are is another case entirely.

Series Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha (Sam) and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decided to convert Woodstone Mansion, which Sam in inherited, into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Danielle Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Brandon Scott Jones); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Richie Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Asher Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Román Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Sam’s ancestor (Rebecca Wisocky), to name a few. The opening of the B&B has been a source of intrigue, anxiety and curiosity among the spirits, but they will gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant.

‘Boy Kills World’ Trailer Starring a Buff Bill Skarsgard

Bill Skarsgard stars as a deaf-mute fighting machine out for revenge in Roadside Attractions’ crazy trailer for Boy Kills World. The trailer’s loaded with action but also conveys the film’s twisted humor, captured in a clip showing a Hunger Games-ish battle to the death via breakfast cereal mascots.

In addition to Bill Skarsgard, the action comedy stars Jessica Rothe, Michelle Dockery, Brett Gelman, Isaiah Mustafa, Yayan Ruhian, Andrew Koji, Sharlto Copley, and Famke Janssen. Bob’s BurgersH. Jon Benjamin provides the inner voice of Skarsgard’s character.

“Skarsgård stars as ‘Boy’ who vows revenge after his family is murdered by Hilda Van Der Koy (Janssen), the deranged matriarch of a corrupt post-apocalyptic dynasty that left the boy orphaned, deaf and voiceless,” reads Roadside’s synopsis. “Driven by his inner voice, one which he co-opted from his favorite childhood video game, Boy trains with a mysterious shaman (Ruhian) to become an instrument of death and is set loose on the eve of the annual culling of dissidents.

Bedlam ensues as Boy commits bloody martial arts mayhem, inciting a wrath of carnage and blood-letting. As he tries to get his bearings in this delirious realm, Boy soon falls in with a desperate resistance group, all the while bickering with the apparent ghost of his rebellious little sister.”

Moritz Mohr directed from a screenplay by Tyler Burton Smith and Arend Remmers. Sam Raimi, Roy Lee, Simon Swart, Alex Lebovici, Stuart Manashil, Wayne Fitzjohn, Zainab Azizi, and Dan Kagan served as producers.

Glen Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You) is attached to star in Chad Powers, which has just been given a series order by Hulu. Powell co-created the half-hour comedy with Michael Waldron, and both will serve as writers and executive producers.

The Chad Powers character was introduced in a sketch that aired on ESPN+’s Eli’s Places series. Eli Manning will be involved as an executive producer along with Omaha Productions’ Peyton Manning, Jamie Horowitz, Ben Brown, and ESPN.

“We’re both diehard college football fans. When we saw Eli as Chad Powers, we knew that was the way into a big, fun story about this world. We’re excited to be part of this team, and can’t wait to get Chad in the game. Think fast, run fast,” said Powell and Waldron.

Hulu’s series order announcement didn’t indicate when production will get underway, but it did include this description of the series: “When bad behavior nukes hotshot QB Russ Holliday’s college career, he disguises himself and walks onto a struggling Southern football team as the talented, affable Chad Powers.”

Commenting on the series, Eli Manning said, “The love for Chad Powers has surprised me in spectacular ways. I played 16 years in the NFL, but now when I’m in a restaurant or walking through an airport, it’s not uncommon for fans to scream, ‘Hey Chad!’ I’m so excited to team up with my friends Glen Powell, Michael Waldron, and Omaha Productions to continue to tell the Chad Powers story and see what he does next.”

Glen Powell will next be seen in Hit Man, directed by Richard Linklater and co-starring Adria Arjona, Austin Amelio, Retta, Sanjay Rao, Molly Bernard, and Evan Holtzman. Powell co-wrote the screenplay and served as a producer.
