Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner is returning for a third season of Mayor of Kingstown, with Paramount+ officially renewing the gritty drama for season three. The streaming service’s announcement didn’t include a season three synopsis, cast details, or a targeted premiere date. Most productions are currently on hold as writers and actors battle the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) for better pay and restrictions on the use of AI.

Mayor of Kingstown was created by Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and Hugh Dillon, with Sheridan, Dillon, Renner, Antoine Fuqua, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Michael Friedman, Dave Erickson, and Regina Corrado executive producing. MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios produce the series.

Season two starred Renner as Mike McLusky, two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest (Bullets Over Broadway, Hannah and Her Sisters) as Miriam McLusky, Hugh Dillon as Ian, Taylor Handley as Kyle McLusky, Emma Laird as Iris, and Tobi Bamtefa as Deverin ‘Bunny’ Washington. Derek Webster is Stevie, Hamish Allan-Headley is Robert, Nishi Munshi is Tracy, and Aidan Gillen starred as Milo Sunter.

The 10-episode first season premiered in November 2021, followed by season two in January 2023. According to Paramount+, the series was one of the streaming service’s top-performing shows during season two. Only Sheridan’s 1923 and Tulsa King performed better during their seasons.

Mayor of Kingstown follows the McLusky family, power brokers in Kingstown, Michigan, where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry. Tackling themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality, the series provides a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither.

Apple TV+ is launching the genre-blending The Changeling on September 8, 2023 with the release of the first three episodes. Oscar nominee LaKeith Stanfield leads the cast of what the streaming service describes as a fairytale for grown-ups, a horror story, and a parenthood fable.

The Season 5 Plot, Courtesy of NBC:

Magnum P.I. is a modern take on the classic series centering on Thomas Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business.

The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins, a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent whose second job is to keep Magnum in line, with the help of her two Dobermans. When Magnum needs backup on a job, he turns to his trusted buddies and fellow POW survivors Theodore ‘TC’ Calvin, a former Marine chopper pilot who runs Island Hoppers, a helicopter tour business, and Orville “Rick” Wright, a former Marine door-gunner-turned-impresario of Oahu’s coolest nightclub and the most connected man on the island.

With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Düsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is back on the case!

‘Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget’ Preview: Cast, Plot, and Teaser Trailer

It’s all about breaking into Tweedy’s Farm in Netflix and Aardman’s Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the sequel to the biggest grossing stop-motion animated film in history. The just-released teaser shows the chickens are on a dangerous mission that includes going up against the notorious Mrs. Tweedy.

Miranda Richardson lends her voice to Mrs. Tweedy, Thandiwe Newton is Ginger, Zachary Levi is Rocky, Bella Ramsey voices Molly, Imelda Staunton is Bunty, and Lynn Ferguson voices Mac. David Bradley voices Fowler, Jane Horrocks voices Babs, Romesh Ranganathan is Nick, Daniel Mays is Fetcher, Josie Sedgwick-Davies is Frizzle, and Nick Mohammed is Dr. Fry.

Comedian and filmmaker Peter Serafinowicz provides the voice of Reginald Smith, a character described as a humorless businessman who, along with Tweedy, poses a new and bigger threat to chicken-kind.

Oscar nominee Sam Fell (ParaNorman, Flushed Away) directed from a screenplay by Karey Kirkpatrick, John O’Farrell, and Rachel Tunnard.

Discussing the much-anticipated sequel, Fell said, “They say a movie is only as good as its villain and Ginger’s nemesis, Mrs. Tweedy is one of the all-time greats. Now she’s out to take industrial-scale revenge on all chicken-kind with the Dawn of the Nugget. We’ve had so much fun working with Miranda Richardson to transform Melisha Tweedy into the ultimate 1960’s super-villain. Miranda has a unique understanding of drama and comedy, making you laugh while scaring the pants off you in the exact same moment.”

Fell continued: “Also rounding out our fantastic cast is Peter Serafinowicz playing Reginald Smith, a slightly bemused businessman visiting Mrs Tweedy’s giant nugget factory. It takes a particular kind of comic genius to play the foil to Miranda Richardson’s hilariously frightening archvillain. Peter pulls it off with effortless finesse.”

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget premieres on Netflix on December 15, 2023.

The Plot:

Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream – a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland, the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk – this time, they’re breaking in!

‘Origin’ is Picked Up by Neon and Debuts First Teaser Trailer

Neon snagged the rights to Oscar nominee Ava DuVernay’s Origin ahead of its premiere at the Venice Film Festival and released the first teaser trailer. With Origin, writer, producer, and director Ava DuVernay becomes the first African-American woman director in competition in Venice Film Festival’s 80-year history.

Oscar nominee Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor (King Richard) leads a talented ensemble that includes Jon Bernthal, Niecy Nash-Betts, Vera Farmiga, and Audra McDonald. Nick Offerman, Blair Underwood, Finn Wittrock, Jasmine Cephas-Jones, and Connie Nielsen also star.

“I’ve known Ava for a long time and my love and admiration for her and her work goes back further, even before Middle of Nowhere. I’m truly humbled that it is this movie which has finally brought us together. She has always been a gifted storyteller, and her mastery of her craft shines through in this deeply personal and inspired adaptation of Isabel Wilkerson’s book, and dramatization of her remarkable life. Origin proves once again that Ava remains one of the most groundbreaking and essential filmmakers of her generation,” stated NEON CEO and Founder Tom Quinn.

The drama is inspired by Pulitzer Prize-winner Isabel Wilkerson’s life during the period when she wrote Caste: The Origin of Our Discontents. Neon released this brief description of Origin:

“While grappling with tremendous personal tragedy, Isabel sets herself on a path of global investigation and discovery. Despite the colossal scope of her project, she finds beauty and bravery while crafting one of the defining American books of our time.”

Neon hasn’t set a premiere date but confirmed they’re targeting a late 2023 theatrical release after its film festival run.

NBC and Mutual of Omaha offered this description of the new series:

The message of Protecting the Wild is not one of despair, but hope. By highlighting the work of America’s heroic conservationists — whether they’re the scientists, wildlife experts, or even members of the public — this new season will show the next generation that it’s a fight that can be won. And everyone can play their part, no matter
how small.

Join us for our new adventure to spotlight conservation success stories of some iconic North American animals such as the desert tortoise, Channel Island fox, bats, puffins, and black-footed ferrets.”

‘The Exorcist: Believer’ Trailer #2 is Devilishly Creepy

Two young girls return from being missing in the woods and fairly quickly begin displaying signs of demonic possession in The Exorcist: Believer. The new trailer shows off more clips of the girls after they’ve been possessed and new scenes featuring Ellen Burstyn’s return as Chris MacNeil, mom of Regan in the original 1973 The Exorcist feature film.

In addition to Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn, the cast includes Tony winner and Oscar nominee Leslie Odom, Jr., Lidya Jewett, Olivia Marcum, Emmy winner Ann Dowd, Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles, and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz.

David Gordon Green (2018’s Halloween, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends) co-wrote the screenplay with Peter Sattler, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty, and directs. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Morgan Creek Entertainment’s David Robinson and James G. Robinson serve as producers. Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek, and Atilla Yücer executive produce.

Originally scheduled for October 13, 2023, the new addition to The Exorcist franchise opens in theaters on October 6th. The Exorcist: Deceiver, part two of Universal Pictures’ planned trilogy, will follow on April 18, 2025.

The Official Synopsis:

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Odom, Jr) has raised their daughter, Angela (Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

For the first time since the 1973 film, Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

The film also stars Emmy winner Ann Dowd as Victor and Angela’s neighbor, and Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz as the parents of Katherine, Angela’s friend.
