Fox’s Official Season 1 Synopsis:

In Monarch, the Roman family is headed by the insanely talented, but tough-as-nails Queen of Country Music DOTTIE CANTRELL ROMAN (Sarandon) and her beloved husband, ‘Texas Truthteller’ ALBIE ROMAN (Adkins). Dottie and Albie have created a country music dynasty. But even though the Roman name is synonymous with authenticity, the very foundation of their success is a lie. And when their reign as country royalty is put in jeopardy, heir to the crown NICOLETTE “NICKY” ROMAN (Friel) will stop at nothing to protect her family’s legacy, while ensuring her own quest for stardom.

Middle child LUKE ROMAN (Sasse) is the CEO of the family’s business, Monarch Entertainment. Luke is the apple of his mother’s eye, but he has a troubled relationship with his father, whose approval he can never get, no matter how hard he tries. Youngest daughter GIGI TUCKER-ROMAN (Ditto) is very close to her older brother and sister, but in a family of superstars, Gigi has always felt like a bit of an outcast, in spite of her incredible singing voice.

Gigi is married to KAYLA ROMAN-TUCKER (Holder), a successful music manager who keeps turning down Luke’s offers to join forces with the family company. Outside business, Kayla’s relationships with the Romans reflect a complicated history, and a secret she is keeping could destroy her marriage to Gigi. ACE GRAYSON (Inigo Pascual) also is part of the family. He is a talented and sensitive 18-year-old who was adopted from an orphanage by Nicky and her husband, struggling British actor CLIVE GRAYSON (guest star Adam Croasdell).

Ace is a phenomenal singer with real swagger on stage and dreams of being a country star like his Grandpa Albie. And just when the Romans’ world couldn’t get more chaotic, enter CATT PHOENIX (Higareda), the stunning and unpredictable mother of 17-year-old ANA PHOENIX (Emma Milani), a talented, wide-eyed young singer who is trying to get signed to the Roman family’s record label.

‘Halloween Ends’ Review: The Final Girl Makes Her Final Stand

Halloween Ends Jamie Lee Curtis
Michael Myers (aka The Shape) and Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode in ‘Halloween Ends’ (Photo © Universal Studios)

The Boogieman and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) are back to face off one final time in director David Gordon Green’s last installment in the horror film franchise, Halloween Ends.

Halloween Ends begins in Haddonfield in 2019 with a teenager named Corey (Rohan Campbell) showing up on Halloween night to babysit a young boy. The kid suffers from horrible nightmares about Michael Myers’ killing spree the previous year and the serial killer’s subsequent disappearance. Once the parents are gone, however, the boy (Jaxon Goldberg) becomes an absolute brat toward Corey and plays a mean prank on him that goes horribly wrong.

Jump ahead four years and Laurie has moved into a nice house, has better hair, and is living with her granddaughter, Allyson (Andi Matichak). She’s also working on her memoir and trying to build a semi-normal, simple life in Haddonfield.

Out doing an errand, Laurie comes across Corey who has become a local pariah due to that one horrible night of babysitting. Laurie and Corey are both outsiders in their small town, and she helps him when he’s getting bullied by a bunch of teenagers. Laurie takes the wounded Corey to the hospital to get medical assistance and introduces him to Allyson. As Allyson tends to Corey’s wounds, they feel an almost instant connection and attraction. Without much more interaction than that, Allyson insists that Corey attend a party with her. She also convinces him to teach her how to drive his motorcycle.

The party starts off fun but goes off the rails and Corey winds up leaving alone. As he’s walking home, he gets jumped by the same bullies and winds up left for dead in front of a huge sewer opening. When Corey wakes up, he finds himself inside the sewer and comes face to mask with Michael Myers himself.

Corey manages to get away after the close encounter – a chance meeting that leaves him with newfound but disturbing confidence. Soon Corey and Allyson are falling for each other hard, drawn to each other by the darkness and evil they’ve both experienced in their short lives.

Laurie sees a new, dark, and menacing side to Corey that reminds her of Michael Myers, and she becomes determined to protect Allyson from Corey who she now views as a threat.

Meanwhile, the original Boogieman – Michael Myers – is now ready to leave the sewers and venture out once more to search for more victims on Halloween. And, of course, to find and kill Laurie.

Halloween Ends closes out David Gordon Green’s horror trilogy (originally created by John Carpenter back in 1978) with a solid cast, weak dialogue, and a lackluster ending. Once again what’s missing are suspense, tension, and spine-tingling scares. There’s no Shape lurking in the shadows or staring with a slight head tilt at his next victim from a distance. In fact, the film has more in common with John Carpenter’s Christine in style and story than Halloween as the focus shifts to being on the new character, Corey.

Rohan Campbell gives a strong performance as Corey, the brooding, misunderstood, decent kid whose descent into darkness is due to being the taunted pariah in town – and by his encounter with Myers in the sewers. Corey’s very much like the character Arnie Cunningham (Keith Gordon), a likable nerd who slowly transforms into a dark and dangerous force as he becomes possessed by his evil car in 1983’s Christine. The focus on Corey and his relationship with Allyson, which isn’t that interesting, takes up too much screen time and steals from the two characters moviegoers are coming to see: Laurie Strode and Michael Myers.

Jamie Lee Curtis once again delivers the best performance in the film. Laurie’s still traumatized but on the road to recovery and she’s trying to find a way to have a simple life and leave all the terror behind her. This plotline, as well as the relationship with her granddaughter, should have been the main focus of the film. Two strong women trying to find their way back to the light after dealing with so much horror and fear.

After 44 years and 13 films, Halloween Ends closes out the horror/slasher franchise and says goodbye to cinema’s original “final girl” with a jumbled, disjointed, unimaginative, and unsatisfying ending. Laurie and Michael deserve better and so do their fans.

‘So Help Me Todd’ Episode 4 Photos, Cast and Plot: “Corduroy Briefs”

The case of an Olympic athlete and a faulty airplane is the focus of CBS’s So Help Me Todd season one episode four. Directed by Nicole French from a script by French and Elizabeth J.B. Klaviter, episode four – “Corduroy Briefs” – will air on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 9pm ET/PT.

Oscar winner Marcia Gay Harden stars as Margaret Wright, Skylar Astin plays Todd Wright, and Tristen J. Winger is Lyle. Madeline Wise plays Allison, Inga Schlingmann is Susan, and Rosa Arredondo stars as Francey.

“Corduroy Briefs” Plot: Margaret and Todd work to bring justice to an Olympic athlete who lost his leg in a plane crash resulting from a defective aircraft

Clayton James, Thomas Cadrot, Sommer Carbuccia, Jeffrey Nordling, and Simon Arblaster guest star.

The Plot:

Marcia Gay Harden and Skylar Astin star as razor-sharp, meticulous attorney Margaret Wright (Harden) and Todd (Astin), her talented but scruffy, aimless son whom she hires as her law firm’s in-house investigator. As the black sheep of the well-heeled Wright family, Todd is a laidback, quick-thinking, excellent former private detective who fell on hard times after his flexible interpretation of the law got his license revoked. Margaret’s penchant for excellence and strict adherence to the law is at complete odds with Todd’s scrappy methods of finding his way through sticky situations: by the seat of his wrinkled pants.

When Todd inadvertently teams with his mother on a case, she’s surprised to find herself duly impressed by – and proud of – his crafty ability to sleuth out information with his charm and his wide-ranging tech savvy. At last, Margaret sees a way to put her son on a “suitable” path to living an adult, financially solvent life she approves of, and she asks him to join her firm. Todd agrees since it means getting his license back and once again doing the job he excels at and loves.

Mother and son working together is a big first step toward mending their fragile, dysfunctional relationship, and they may even come away with a better understanding of each other at this pivotal point in their lives. But whether Todd and Margaret will be able to accept each other for who they are is another case entirely.

Joel McHale to Star in Fox’s ‘Animal Control’ Workplace Comedy

Joel McHale has committed to starring in and executive producing Fox’s single-camera comedy Animal Control,, set, as the title suggests, in the world of animal control workers. The Emmy Award nominee will play a character named Frank in Fox’s first wholly-owned live-action comedy.

The comedy will be executive produced by Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Rob Greenberg (How I Met Your Mother), Dan Sterling (The Office), and Tad Quill (The Moodys). Fox Entertainment Studios is producing.

“Dan, Rob, Tad, and Bob had envisioned Joel as the lead of Animal Control from the very moment we began development, and we are all ecstatic to have him on board. Joel’s acerbic wit and ability to bring a comedic lens to everything he’s involved with make him the perfect person to bring Frank to life,” said Michael Thorn, President of Entertainment of FOX Entertainment.

Joel McHale’s credits include Community, Starman, The Bear, and hosting Crime Scene Kitchen.

Fox offered the following description of the series:

Animal Control will follow a group of local Animal Control workers whose lives are complicated by the fact that animals are simple, but humans are not. McHale will portray Frank, an opinionated, eccentric Animal Control officer who may not have gone to college but is still the most well-read person in the room.

A former cop, Frank tried to expose corruption in his department, but his efforts got him fired, which may explain why he’s so cynical and curmudgeonly. He has an almost superhuman ability to understand animals. Humans…not so much.

‘The Crown’ Photos Show the New Season 5 Princess Di, Prince Charles, and Queen Elizabeth

The Crown Season 5
Dominic West, Teddy Hawley, Elizabeth Debicki, and Timothee Sambor in ‘The Crown’ season 5 (Photo Credit: Netflix)

Netflix just released the first batch of photos from the upcoming fifth season of The Crown. The photos provide our first good look at Dominic West as Prince Charles and Elizabeth Debicki as Princess Diana as well as Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II.

Season five also stars Jonathan Pryce as Prince Philip, Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret, Claudia Harrison as Princess Anne, Olivia Williams as Camilla Parker Bowles, Jonny Lee Miller as John Major, Salim Daw as Mohamed Al Fayed, and Khalid Abdalla as Dodi Fayed.

The 10-episode fifth season of the critically acclaimed, award-winning drama is set to premiere on November 9, 2022.

Commenting on the well-documented decade in the life of the People’s Princess, Elizabeth Debicki told Netflix’s Tudum, “That’s the amazing thing about playing these people at this time, because in the journey of The Crown so far out of all the seasons, this is the most visual content we have of the Royal Family. In the ‘90s everything had started to be filmed and also it was the birth of the 24-hour news cycle so there’s just this incredible amount of content that we have access to.”

“What has been nice, and I hope I don’t prove them wrong, is people saying, ‘I’m really looking forward to seeing her as the queen.’ So, let’s just hope that works out for them because I’ve done it. Nothing I can do about it now!,” stated Staunton.

Dominic West takes over the role of Prince Charles for season five. Josh O’Connor played Charles in seasons three and four, and won the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series at the 2021 Primetime Emmy Awards.

“I think people understand, because the cast has changed every two seasons, that this is not an imitation,” said West. “This is an evoking of a character. That’s really where the show lives: in the imagined conversations of their private life, which is something that no one knows. I think that’s what it gets a lot of criticism for. How can you know what they talk about in their private lives? The obvious answer is we don’t, but we have an incredible writer, a dramatist, who imagines based on exhaustive research, and that’s really part of the fascination of the show.”

The Crown was created by writer Peter Morgan. Morgan also executive produces along with Suzanne Mackie, Andy Harries, Stephen Daldry, Matthew Byam Shaw, Robert Fox, and Jessica Hobbs.

The Crown Season 5

The Plot:

With the new decade in its stride, the Royal Family are presented with possibly their biggest challenge to date; as the public openly question their role in ’90s Britain.

As Queen Elizabeth II approaches the 40th anniversary of her accession, she reflects on a reign that has encompassed nine prime ministers, the advent of mass television and the twilight of the British Empire. Yet new challenges are on the horizon. The collapse of the Soviet Union and the transfer of sovereignty in Hong Kong signals a seismic shift in the international order presenting both obstacles and opportunities. Meanwhile, trouble is brewing closer to home.

Prince Charles pressures his mother to allow him to divorce Diana, presenting a constitutional crisis of the monarchy. Rumours circulate as husband and wife are seen to live increasingly separate lives and, as media scrutiny intensifies, Diana decides to take control of her own narrative, breaking with family protocol to publish a book that undermines public support for Charles and exposes the cracks in the House of Windsor.

Tensions are set to rise further as Mohamed Al Fayed arrives on the scene. Driven by his desire for acceptance of the highest order, he harnesses his self-made wealth and power to try and earn him and his son Dodi a seat at the royal table.

‘Follow Her’ Review – Screamfest 2022

Follow Her Movie Review
Luke Cook and Dani Barker star in ‘Follow Her’

Sylvia Caminer’s feature narrative directorial debut Follow Me is a twisted cautionary tale and a clever skewering of internet celebrity. Social media’s made thousands of people famous for doing nothing more than filming themselves putting on makeup or declaring themselves experts on some random topic. (No actual proof is necessary.) One video is sometimes all it takes to launch a lucrative career.

Follow Her’s protagonist, Jess Peters (Dani Barker), hopes the road to financial success is paved with the online videos she surreptitiously films of men in compromising positions. Need a dominatrix to lock you in a freezer? Message Jess. Looking for a woman to tie up and tickle? Jess is your woman if the price is right.

Jess is adept at switching up accents and changing her appearance, almost as if each of these short gigs is just an audition for real work in front of the camera. She uses her skills as a struggling actor to make her performances for these men with weird fetishes entertaining. And when one video of a tickling man catches the attention of an influencer with millions of followers, Jess thinks she’s about to enter the money zone and achieve a top 10 spot on her preferred social media platform, The Hive.

The video’s gone viral, but there’s a problem. The software used to blur the face of the subject she’s filming malfunctioned, and the face of the tickler is briefly exposed.

She’s got a cat named Squeakers to support and a desire for fame, so she’s torn over whether she should remove the video and protect the man’s identity. It shouldn’t even be a question but Jess, desperate to keep her new followers, leaves it up – morals and ethics be damned.

Jess’ The Hive channel seems to be taking off when she accepts work from a writer requesting her help finishing a screenplay. Equipped with glasses that have a tiny camera, her cell phone for shooting video, and a cat pin that’s also a hidden camera, Jess heads out to the middle of nowhere to meet Tom Brady. No, not the NFL quarterback.

Tom (Luke Cook, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) hires her to collaborate on the ending of a screenplay he describes as being in the vein of Hitchcock. He’s a handsome guy and doesn’t come off as the type who’d slice her stomach open to have a peek inside when they meet, so Jess does everything she shouldn’t do and agrees to accompany him to his isolated home. Which is actually a barn…without a neighbor in sight…and no internet or cell phone service.

As it turns out, Jess is forced into participating in a deadly game in which no one’s bothered to fill her in on the rules. It also turns out that Jess is about to learn what it means to forever be famous for being the subject of one incredibly damning video.

Barker and Luke Cook steam up the screen, and as they engage in a horrifying game of cat and mouse, the roles of hero and villain become interchangeable. Jess’s obsession with internet fame reflects the world we live in, and in her we see everything that’s unhealthy and wrong about social media.

Dani Barker not only stars in what’s basically a two-hander but also wrote the screenplay. Barker does such a fantastic job as Jess that even when the character does the stupidest things, the audience remains invested in keeping her alive. Even after it’s obvious she’s filming these men not to expose their sordid sexual turn-ons, as her channel’s name – “Classified Crazies” – suggests, Jess remains likable enough that we hope she survives.

Director Sylvia Caminer and actor/writer Dani Barker’s Follow Her paints a disturbing picture of someone obsessed with becoming internet famous. Driven by two outstanding performances, this psychological horror film should be mandatory viewing by any wannabe influencer.

‘Ghosts’ Season 2 Episode 4 Plot, Cast, and Photos: “The Tree”

CBS’s Ghosts season 2 episode four is going to dig a little more into Sasappis’ backstory. Directed by Trent O’Donnell from a script by Josh Malmuth, episode four – “The Tree” – will air on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at 8:30pm ET/PT.

Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar return as Samantha and Jay, the living residents of the mansion. Reprising their roles as the resident ghosts are Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac, Richie Moriarty as Pete, Danielle Pinnock as Alberta, and Asher Grodman as Trevor. Román Zaragoza stars as Sasappis, Sheila Carrasco plays Flower, Rebecca Wisocky is Hetty, and Devan Chandler Long plays Thorfinn.

“The Tree” Plot: Sasappis convinces Sam and Jay to try and save an old tree on the Woodstone property that the neighbors want to cut down. Also, Thor attempts to become more environmentally friendly to get Flower’s attention.

Carolyn Taylor, Punkie Johnson, Dallas Goldtooth, and Crystle Lightning guest star.

Ghosts Season 2 Episode 4

The Plot:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decide to convert a huge rundown country estate they inherited into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home. The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Jones); a ‘60s hippie fond of hallucinogens (Carrasco); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Samantha’s ancestor (isocky), to name a few.

The opening of the B&B is a source of intrigue, anxiety, and curiosity among the spirits, but they’ll gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant – Samantha.
