The Woodstone Mansion celebrates the holidays with a special one-hour “Ghostsmas” event on CBS’s Ghosts. Season two episode nine, “The Christmas Spirit: Part One,” will air on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 8pm ET/PT. Episode 10, “The Christmas Spirit: Part Two,” follows at 8:30pm ET/PT.

Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar lead the cast as Samantha and Jay, the living residents of the mansion. Playing the mansion’s resident ghosts are Brandon Scott Jones as Isaac, Richie Moriarty as Pete, Danielle Pinnock as Alberta, and Asher Grodman as Trevor. Román Zaragoza stars as Sasappis, Sheila Carrasco plays Flower, Rebecca Wisocky is Hetty, and Devan Chandler Long plays Thorfinn.

Punam Patel returns to guest star as Jay’s sister, Bela in the one-hour holiday event. Additional guest stars include John Hartman, Andrew Leeds, Jaden Zachary Goetz, Hillary Anne Matthews, Neil Crone, Christian Daoust, Josee LaViolette, and Nicholas Mongiardo-Cooper.

“The Christmas Spirit: Part One” Plot – In part one of a special one-hour #Ghostsmas episode, Jay’s sister, Bela (Patel), visits Woodstone Mansion and brings along an adoring male friend, inspiring Sam to spark a romance between them in the spirit of the holiday rom-coms she loves. Meanwhile, the ghosts have conjured up a very different holiday plan for Trevor and Bela. Also, Isaac has an awkward encounter with Nigel that forces him to look back on events in his life.

“The Christmas Spirit: Part Two” Plot – In part two of a special one-hour #Ghostsmas episode, Sam and Thorfinn get caught in the crossfire as the scheme Jay’s sister, Bela, and the ghosts have conjured up goes awry. Also, Isaac’s marriage to Beatrice sheds light on how apprehensive he has been in communicating his feelings to Nigel.

The Plot:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decide to convert a huge rundown country estate they inherited into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Jones); a ‘60s hippie fond of hallucinogens (Carrasco); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Samantha’s ancestor (isocky), to name a few.

The opening of the B&B is a source of intrigue, anxiety, and curiosity among the spirits, but they’ll gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant – Samantha.

Taron Egerton and Dennis Lehane Reunite for ‘Firebug’ Series

Screen Actors Guild Awards nominee Taron Egerton (Rocketman) is teaming up with bestselling author Dennis Lehane once again on a series set up at Apple TV+. Actor/executive producer Egerton, series creator/writer/executive producer Lehane, and executive producers Richard Plepler, Kary Antholis, Bradley Thomas, and Dan Friedkin from Apple TV+’s critically acclaimed Black Bird are reuniting for another drama inspired by true events.

Per Apple TV+: “Firebug will follow a troubled detective and an enigmatic arson investigator (played by Egerton) as they pursue the trails of two serial arsonists.” (The series has been renamed Smoke.)

Firebug is inspired by truth.media’s “Firebug” podcast about arsonist John Leonard Orr hosted by Oscar and Emmy-winning Kary Antholis (One Survivor Remembers). Truth Podcasting Corp’s Marc Smerling’s involved as an executive producer.

John Orr was employed by the Glendale Fire Department in Southern California as a fire captain and arson investigator. It was discovered Orr was responsible for a series of fires that took four lives, and he was ultimately convicted of arson and murder.

Lehane developed the series based on Orr’s story, and Apple Studios is on board to produce.

Taron Egerton’s credits include the Kingsman films, Billionaire Boys Club, Eddie the Eagle, and Robin Hood. Egerton will soon by seen in the Apple Original Film Tetris: The Movie.

First Look: ‘Hello Tomorrow!’ Dramedy Starring Billy Crudup

Hello Tomorrow! Billy Crudup — Billy Crudup in ‘Hello Tomorrow!,’ premiering February 17, 2023 on Apple TV+.

Billy Crudup continues his association with Apple TV+ with the upcoming dramedy Hello Tomorrow! which, hopefully, will be as successful as his first project with the streamer – The Morning Show. Crudup earned two Emmy nominations in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series category for his performance as network executive Cory Ellison in that critically acclaimed drama, winning the Emmy in 2020.

In addition to Crudup, Hello Tomorrow! stars Haneefah Wood (Truth Be Told), Alison Pill (The Newsroom), Nicholas Podany (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Dewshane Williams (The Umbrella Academy), Hank Azaria (Ray Donovan), Matthew Maher (Our Flag Means Death), and Jacki Weaver (Yellowstone). Crudup, Pill, Podany, and Wood are featured in the first three photos from the show.

The 10-episode series will premiere on February 17, 2023 with the debut of the first three half-hour episodes. New episodes will premiere on subsequent Fridays.

Amit Bhalla and Lucas Jansen co-created the series and serve as executive producers. Billy Crudup, Stephen Falk, and Jonathan Entwistle also executive produce along with Mortal Media’s Blake Griffin, Ryan Kalil, and Noah Weinstein.

Apple TV+ released the following description of the new series:

“Set in a retro-future world, Hello Tomorrow! centers around a group of traveling salesmen hawking lunar timeshares. Crudup stars as Jack, a salesman of great talent and ambition, whose unshakeable faith in a brighter tomorrow inspires his coworkers, revitalizes his desperate customers, but threatens to leave him dangerously lost in the very dream that sustains him.”

‘Fantasy Island’ Season 2 Episode 1 Preview: Photos, Cast, Video, and Air Date

Fox’s reboot of Fantasy Island kicks off its second season on Monday, January 2, 2023 at 8pm ET/PT with Roselyn Sanchez back as Elena Roarke. Elena is a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke played by Ricardo Montalban in the original ’70s series. Kiara Barnes (The Bold and the Beautiful) is also returning as Ruby Akuda and John Gabriel Rodriguez (Rosewood) is back as Javier.

The promo video teases guest stars showing up for the new season will include Desperate Housewives‘ Teri Hatcher and James Denton. Additional season two guest stars include Rachael Harris, Cheryl Hines, Gabriela Z. Hernandez, Jasika Nicole, Andy Ritcher, and Jonathan Bennett.

“Tara and Jessica’s High School Reunion/Cat Lady” Episode 1 Plot: Longtime best friends Tara and Jessica want to rule their 30th High School Reunion, but their plans go sideways when everyone is forced to tell the truth. Andi wants to know if her cat BoBo loves her as much as she loves him. Roarke juggles a secret romance, as Ruby and Gina spend more time together.

‘The Fabelmans’ Review: Spielberg Entertains with His Most Personal Film

The wonder and magic of movies, and the angst of growing up, are at the core of filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s very personal film The Fabelmans. Set in the 1950s and 60s, the movie is a semi-autobiographical account of Spielberg’s youth, growing up in a Jewish family and finding his passion for making movies.

The Fabelmans opens with Burt Fabelman (Paul Dano) and his wife, Mitzi (Michelle Williams) standing in line with their eight-year-old son Sammy (Mateo Zoryon Francis-DeFord) at a theater to take in a screening of The Greatest Show on Earth. There’s a spectacular train crash near the end of the film shot using miniatures, and young Sammy becomes instantly fascinated by it.

Desperate to understand how the filmmakers accomplished the captivating scene, Sammy asks his parents for a train set for Hanukkah. Sammy crashes the toy train in a similar fashion, upsetting his dad who doesn’t understand why his son would ruin a brand-new toy.

On the other hand, Mitzi makes the connection between the train crash in the film and Sammy’s attempt to use his toy train to recreate it. The artistically-minded Mitzi suggests to Sammy that he use his father’s camera to film crashing his trains. That way, he can watch it over and over again instead of ruining the trains with multiple crashes. She also warns Sammy that they should keep what he’s up to a secret, worried that Burt wouldn’t understand.

When Mitzi watches the footage Sammy shot, she realizes from the multiple angles and use of light that Sammy has a gift for filmmaking.

The family moves from New Jersey to Arizona when Burt, who’s a brilliant engineer, gets a better-paying job. Sammy, now a teenager (and now played by Gabriel LaBelle), spends all of his free time making films with the help of his scout group, something his mother encourages but his father views as just a fun but time-consuming hobby.

Sammy’s dedication to filming everything ultimately leads to a pivotal change in the dynamic between him and his mom. While editing the video he shot during the family’s camping trip, he notices he captured some very private moments between Mitzi and Burt’s best friend and co-worker Bennie Loewy (Seth Rogen). Mitzi and Bennie appear to be more than just friends, and Sammy’s discovery of this secret relationship opens a deep rift between him and Mitzi – even though Mitzi’s oblivious to what caused them to drift apart.

When Burt moves the family to Northern California for yet another job, it takes a huge toll on the family. Mitzi sinks into a deep depression because she no longer has Bennie around to cheer her up. Sammy’s also having a difficult time adjusting to this new city and becomes the target of anti-Semitic jocks. On the bright side, Sammy meets Monica (Chloe East), a devoted Christian who is determined to open his heart to Jesus and, in the process, becomes his new girlfriend.

Written and directed by Steven Spielberg, The Fabelmans is a moving coming-of-age story as well as a love letter to cinema. It shows how filmmaking isn’t just an art form but can also provide an escape from reality.

Michelle Williams delivers a wonderful performance as Mitzi, Sammy’s free-spirited, piano-playing artistic mother who put her career on hold to have a family that she adores. Williams does a masterful job of portraying both Mitzi’s highs and lows throughout the film. The scene where she watches Sammy’s secret special edit of the camping trip footage and witnesses herself obviously in love with Burt’s best friend is tragic and heartfelt. It’s a performance worthy of an Oscar nomination.

Newcomer Gabriel LaBelle is a true find and plays Sammy (the young Steven Spielberg) as an earnest teenager with a true fascination with movies and a deep love for his parents. He has solid chemistry with both Williams and Dano and flawlessly captures the pain a teenager feels during a major family crisis and the need to escape from it.

Paul Dano delivers an authentic but understated performance as Burt, the patriarch of the family who’s torn between the great love he feels for Mitzi and his children and his drive to be a brilliant engineer. His choice to put his own career goals ahead of the family and his decision to turn a blind eye to the blossoming romance between Mitzi and Bennie contributes to tearing the family apart.

Award-winning composer John Williams once again raises a Spielberg film to an even higher level with his fantastic musical score that infuses the movie with even more heart and soul.

With superb performances by the cast, magnificent direction by Spielberg, and a moving score, The Fabelmans is a sweet, nostalgic, and engaging experience.

GRADE: B+

Netflix just unveiled a batch of new photos from the upcoming second season of the fantasy series Shadow and Bone. The streaming service also confirmed the eight-episode second season will launch on March 16, 2023.

“The most wonderful thing about season two is that we get to advance the story of these characters that we’d left in precarious positions at the end of season one. There’s a lot of potential for them this season. They have to face the consequences for their actions, and then they get to meet new people along the way,” explained co-showrunner Eric Heisserer in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum. “The Grishaverse also expands in this season, both in mythology and in characters. In doing so, we expand the world, we go to new locations, we visit Novyi Zem and Shu Han, and those are all integral to the narrative.”

Shadow and Bone author and executive producer of the series Leigh Bardugo believes that season one confirmed for readers that the series is in good hands. “I think when we approached season one, a lot of people were like, ‘It’s impossible. It can’t be done. Why would you bring Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows together?’ And I think now, we have that trust. And I think it’s going to be very, very exciting for them to see the way that trust pays off in season two.

Every part of the Grishaverse is coming into play. We are going to get to see some incredible new characters. We’re going to see characters interacting with each other, questing with each other, fighting and laughing with each other, who we never got to see together in the books. And I think that’s a unique thing about this show. Readers are not only going to be surprised by the way that these storylines crash into each other, they’re never going to know where the next move is coming from—and that actually was a pleasure for me because I got to be surprised by my own stories.”

Returning cast members include Ben Barnes as “General Kirigan,” Jessie Mei Li as “Alina Starkov,” Archie Renaux as “Malyen Oretsev,” Freddy Carter as “Kaz Brekker,” Amita Suman as “Inej,” and Kit Young as “Jesper Fahey.” In addition, returning cast members Danielle Galligan (“Nina Zenik”), Daisy Head (“Genya Safin”), and Calahan Skogman (“Matthias Helvar”) have been promoted to series regulars.

Four new series regulars were added for season two. Anna Leong Brophy plays “Tamar Kir-Bataar,” Patrick Gibson plays “Nikolai Lantsov,” Jack Wolfe is “Wylan Hendriks,” and Lewis Tan is “Tolya Yul-Bataar.”

Heisserer and Daegan Fryklind are the showrunners, executive producers, and writers. Additional executive producers include Shawn Levy, Josh Barry, Dan Levine, and Dan Cohen for 21 Laps Entertainment, along with Pouya Shahbazian (Loom Studios) and Shelley Meals.

Season two directors include Bola Ogun (Episodes 1 & 2), Laura Belsey (Episodes 3 & 4), Karen Gaviola (Episodes 5 & 6), and Mairzee Almas (Episodes 7 & 8).

‘John Wick’ Spinoff Casts Catalina Sandino Morena

Oscar nominee Catalina Sandino Moreno (Best Actress, Maria Full of Grace) has joined the cast of Ballerina, a new addition to the John Wick franchise. Ana de Armas (Blonde, Knives Out) is starring in the spinoff which is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4.

Keanu Reeves is expected to show up in a few scenes. John Wick veterans Anjelica Huston, Ian McShane, and Lance Reddick are also reprising their roles for the spinoff.

Filming is currently underway with Len Wiseman (the Underworld franchise, Live Free or Die Hard) directing from a script by Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3, Army of the Dead). Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski are on board as producers.

“One of the challenges of casting Ballerina is making sure that the new roles are played by actors with as much power, emotional presence, and physical skill as Ana has. After working with Catalina on John Woo’s Silent Night, it was clear that she belonged at the top of our list, and it’s a thrill to be reuniting with her,” said producer Lee.

Ballerina follows Ana de Armas as a young assassin who seeks revenge against the people who killed her family. Lionsgate hasn’t announced how Catalina Sandino Moreno’s character plays into the story.

‘Alice, Darling’ Trailer: Anna Kendrick Tries to Escape an Abusive Relationship

Oscar nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) stars as a young woman who’s stuck in an abusive relationship in the thriller Alice, Darling. Lionsgate just released the official trailer ahead of the film’s limited release in Los Angeles – to qualify for awards – on December 30, 2022.

In a recent interview with Newsweek, Anna Kendrick discussed the subject matter and Alice, Darling‘s appeal. “It’s funny, I feel like I’ve really opened myself up, mainly in the way that it all relates to this movie,” said Kendrick. “The reason that we all decided to sign on to it, I was frankly astonished by [the fact] that almost to a person, everybody I talked to on that first day was bringing in their own experience.”

Kendrick added: “That was kind of the reason that every person from every department had decided to take on the job and was really pouring their heart and themselves into it.”

In addition to Kendrick, Alice, Darling stars Kaniehtiio Horn, Charlie Carrick, and Wunmi Mosaku. Mary Nighy, daughter of Bill Nighy, makes her feature film directorial debut with the R-rated thriller.

The Plot:

Anna Kendrick is Alice in this taut thriller about a woman pushed to the breaking point by her psychologically abusive boyfriend, Simon. While on vacation with two close girlfriends, Alice rediscovers the essence of herself and gains some much-needed perspective. Slowly, she starts to fray the cords of codependency that bind her. But Simon’s vengeance is as inevitable as it is shattering – and, once unleashed, it tests Alice’s strength, her courage, and the bonds of her deep-rooted friendships.

‘Star Wars: The Bad Batch’ Season 2 Drops an Official Trailer and New Poster

The two-minute official trailer for Lucasfilm Animation’s Star Wars: The Bad Batch season two serves up a little bit of everything, including angry giant killer crabs. The trailer’s release was accompanied by a new season two poster as well as episode titles and airdates.

Disney+ offered this description of season two: “When the new season opens, months have passed since the events on Kamino, and the Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. They will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they take on a variety of thrilling mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.”

Emmy Award nominee Dee Bradley Baker (American Dad!) returns to voice the Bad Batch and Emmy Award nominee Michelle Ang (Fear the Walking Dead: Flight 462) is back as the voice of Omega. Four-time Emmy Award winner Rhea Perlman (Cheers) once again provides the voice of Cid, Noshir Dalal (The Owl House) voices Vice Admiral Rampart, and Emmy Award winner Wanda Sykes (Black-ish) makes her guest starring debut as Phee Genoa.

Dave Filoni, Athena Portillo, and Carrie Beck serve as executive producers, with Josh Rimes and Alex Spotswood producing. Executive producer Brad Rau is the supervising director and executive producer Jennifer Corbett is the head writer.

Season one premiered in May 2021 and season two debuts on Disney+ on January 4, 2023.

‘The Ark’ Sci-Fi Series Preview: Who’s In It and What’s It About?

Syfy’s targeting a February 2023 premiere for the new original sci-fi series The Ark from showrunners and executive producers Dean Devlin (Independence Day, Stargate) and Jonathan Glassner (Stargate SG-1). The 15-second first teaser doesn’t reveal much about the plot, other than that there appears to be some sort of emergency in space.

Fortunately, Syfy’s synopsis of the series offers much better insight into what’s in store:

“Created by Dean Devlin, The Ark takes place 100 years in the future when planetary colonization missions have begun as a necessity to help secure the survival of the human race. The first of these missions on a spacecraft known as Ark One encounters a catastrophic event causing massive destruction and loss of life. With more than a year left to go before reaching their target planet, a lack of life-sustaining supplies, and loss of leadership, the remaining crew must become the best versions of themselves to stay on course and survive.”

The series stars Christie Burke (Maid), Richard Fleeshman (Deep Heat), Reece Ritchie (The Outpost), Stacey Read, and Ryan Adams.

Electric Entertainment’s Marc Roskin and Rachel Olschan-Wilson join Devlin and Glassner as executive producers. Steve Lee and Balkanic Media’s Jonathan English serve as producers.

In an interview with Syfy Wire, Dean Devlin talked about the series and working with Jonathan Glassner.

“A show like The Ark is all about the characters because we’re stuck on the spaceship and we’re stuck with these people. It’s not a show where you can constantly bring in guest stars, because everybody’s on the ship! So it really takes some deft writing to keep it compelling and surprising — and Jonathan’s a master of that,” said Devlin.
