‘The Beach Bum’ Trailer and Poster: Matthew McConaughey Chills at the Beach

Almost as interesting as The Beach Bum trailer are the comments about the trailer on YouTube. The red band trailer’s release has led YouTube viewers to describe the film as the sequel to The Big Lebowski they never realized they needed starring Matthew McConaughey channeling every movie he made prior to becoming a serious Oscar-winning actor. Some YouTube commenters aren’t sure McConaughey even knew he was being filmed, noting he’s just basically being himself – complete with some bongo-playing.

In addition to Oscar winner McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club), the film features Snoop Dogg (Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping), Isla Fisher (Arrested Development), Zac Efron (The Greatest Showman), Jimmy Buffett (Hawaii Five-0), Martin Lawrence (College Road Trip), and Jonah Hill (Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot).

The 2019 comedy film was written and directed by Harmony Korine (Spring Breakers). Korine was nominated for the Un Certain Regard Award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival for Mister Lonely. He also earned a Film Independent Spirit Award Best Director nomination in 2000 for Julien Donkey-Boy. In 1996 he was nominated for a Spirit Award in the Best First Screenplay category for Kids.

Korine’s behind the scenes team includes director of photography Benoit Debie, editor Douglas Crise, production designer Elliott Hostetter, and costume designer Heidi Bivens. John Lesher, Nicolas Lhermitte, Mourad Belkeddar, Steve Golin, and Charles-Marie Anthonoiz produced.

The Beach Bum will open in theaters on March 29, 2019. The MPAA has given the comedy an R-rating for pervasive drug and alcohol use, language throughout, nudity and some strong sexual content.

The Plot:

The Beach Bum follows the outrageous misadventures of Moondog (McConaughey), a rebellious burnout who only knows how to live life by his own rules. Complete with an all-star cast, The Beach Bum is the wildly original and subversive new comedy from writer/director Harmony Korine.

‘The Flash’ Season 5 Episode 11 Recap and Review: “Seeing Red”

“Killer Frost doesn’t need a weapon. Killer Frost is the weapon,” says Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) to Ralph (Hartley Sawyer) when he tries to hand her a gun as Team Flash is about to try to take on Cicada (Chris Klein) in season five episode 11 of The CW’s The Flash.

As the episode begins, Dr. Ambres (Lossen Chambers) gets a surprise visit from Orlin Dwyer (aka Cicada) who’s unhappy he can’t get to his niece because the police are keeping a guard on her room 24/7. Dr. Ambres informs him there’s still no change in her condition and that he needs to get back to the plan of exterminating all the metas. She tells him she knows someone who can help them.

Cicada takes on two more metas, killing one as the other escapes.

Later, Barry (Grant Gustin) and Nora (Jessica Parker Kennedy) investigate the murder of the meta and quickly realize Cicada is back.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Caitlin’s getting fed up with her alter ego Killer Frost who keeps sabotaging Caitlin’s efforts to help Cisco find a meta-human cure. Ralph walks in on Caitlin yelling at Frost and she tells him what Frost is up to. Ralph asks if Caitlin has asked Frost why, and Caitlin explains every time she tries to talk to her about it she sings the Barney song “I love you” and then goes silent. Caitlin also shares with Ralph that in order to make the cure, she needs meta DNA that hasn’t fully bonded with dark matter, which means DNA from a new meta. The only problem is Cicada has killed the new metas.

In another part of the lab, Sherloque (Tom Cavanagh) is investigating Nora’s time journal.

An alarm goes off at S.T.A.R. Labs and Team Flash – Barry, Nora, Killer Frost and Ralph – suit up to fight Cicada. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) is absent because he’s at the Tannerhauser site working on the meta-human cure.

Team Flash arrive just in time to stop Cicada from killing a meta he wounded. Ralph uses the phase blaster on Cicada and Frost hits him with a strong icy blast. The Flash turns to Frost and says they need Caitlin to attend to the injured meta. Caitlin appears and quickly examines the meta, determining she needs to go to the hospital.

Cicada uses his dagger and slams it on the ground knocking The Flash, Caitlin, and Elongated Man off their feet. Cicada quickly goes up behind XS and grabs her. He lifts her off her feet with his strength and power-punches her in her back, right on her spine. (Basically reminiscent of Bane breaking Batman in The Dark Knight Rises).

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Caitlin examines an unconscious Nora and tells Barry and Iris (Candice Patton) that Cicada fractured two vertebrae in Nora’s spine and since she’s flooded with dark matter, her speed healing isn’t working. It will take time to heal. Nora wakes up and slowly realizes she can’t move her legs and that it hurts to breath. She begins to panic and gets upset, but Barry, Iris, and Caitlin explain what happened to her and that she should be okay but it will just take longer than usual.

In the cortex, Barry, who’s very angry about what happened to Nora, tells Sherloque to start earning his money and find a way to find and stop Cicada. Ralph and Sherloque brainstorm and realize after looking at Cicada’s past victims they were all criminals at one point. The team realize Cicada got his list from someone at the CCPD.

Cecille (Danielle Nicolet) and Barry talk to Captain Singh (Patrick Sabongui) and explain how Cicada is picking his victims. Singh gets defensive, not wanting to believe it’s one of his officers. Barry becomes angry, and Cecile assures Barry she and Singh will handle it. As Barry and Cecile walk out she says she’ll call in favors with the FBI and find a way to get the metas on the list out of town with new identities.

Over at S.T.A.R. Labs, Nora’s condition has barely improved and she starts to get concerned that her speed healing won’t kick in.

Frost destroys Caitlin’s work on the meta-human cure. Ralph arrives and tells her he understands protesting but she’s going overboard. “Maybe Caitlin will get the hint now,” replies Frost. Barry walks in and asks Frost for her help in finding the metas on the list and getting them ready for the transport Cecille is setting up.

Barry, Ralph, and Killer Frost locate Amunet’s ex-henchman Norvock (Mark Sweatman) to convince him to help them find the other metas and prepare them to flee the city.

Meanwhile, Cecille informs Singh she’ll need roadblocks set up during the transfer. Singh agrees to handle it. As Cecille is leaving, she gets a feeling from Officer Jones. She asks him if he’s okay and he says yes, but he seems off to her.

Team Flash and Norvock gather all the metas for transport, except for Peek-a-Boo. One of the metas starts to mouth off about trusting The Flash and says she would rather fight Cicada. Barry, who has no patience at this point and is still furious over what Cicada did to Nora, tells the metas if they want to be dumb and go off on their own, they are free to go ahead. A few start to walk away when Norvock confesses he fought Cicada a few days earlier with a meta friend. He ran but his friend stayed and fought and Cicada killed him. Norvock tells the metas to do what they want but he’s trusting The Flash because he wants to live. The other metas stay put.

Killer Frost talks to Norvock, surprised he helped convince the other metas to stay. He confesses that he was originally a good guy. He worked at the Central City Zoo in the snake area until one day a snake got out and attacked a kid. He was able to get the snake off of the child when he was hit by the particle accelerator explosion. He now has a snake living in his eye and everything has gone bad.

Norvock leaves and Ralph, who was listening, tells Killer Frost he feels a little bad for the guy. “Why? He’s just looking out for himself,” replies Frost. Ralph points out that he’s afraid and it’s the fear that’s making him act that way. Frost says she wouldn’t know what that’s like and Ralph brings up Caitlin and the meta cure.

The Flash talks to Peek-a-Boo who still doesn’t want to go with them and won’t listen to reason. As they talk Peek-a-Boo notices she can’t use her powers and Barry realizes Cicada is close. Barry yells for Peek-a-Boo to run. Cicada appears and a fight with The Flash ensues. Barry gets away from Cicada long enough to open a breach. He and Peek-a-Boo escape through it.

Back at S.T.A.R. Labs, Nora’s finally able to wiggle her toes. She smiles as Sherloque enters and congratulates her, saying she’ll be up and chasing Cicada in no time. Sherloque asks if maybe when she’s feeling up to it she can take him to The Flash archives and museum. Iris interrupts and asks to talk to Sherloque outside. She wonders why he’s interrogating Nora. He explains he’s trying to solve a mystery. Iris informs Sherloque he’s going down the wrong road.

Cecille shows up and senses the anger in Barry. She reminds him he can’t give into it because that’s what has consumed Cicada – his anger. She realizes who’s the mole and tells Barry she’ll handle it.

Ralph approaches Killer Frost and reveals that after hearing some of the other metas’ stories, he’s for the cure. Killer Frost confesses she’s worried that one day Caitlin might wake up and decide to take the cure and she wouldn’t be around to protect Caitlin anymore. Ralph tells Frost that when DeVoe made her go dormant last year all Caitlin could talk about was finding a way to get her back. “She protects you too,” says Ralph to a happily surprised Frost.

Cicada grabs Officer Jones and tells him the metas are not where they’re supposed to be, according to the list. Jones reveals the plan Cecille has to transport them and indicates their location.

Cicada shows up just as a helicopter is getting ready to land to pick up the metas. Barry tells Ralph to take the metas to the other side and find a way to get the metas in the chopper without it landing. Frost wants to fight Cicada but The Flash tells her, “No, he’s mine.”

Cicada uses his dagger to suppress Barry’s powers and assures him he can’t win this fight. “I bet I can. We haven’t been formally introduced. They call me Killer Frost…let me show you why,” says Killer Frost, creating an ice dagger and fighting with Cicada in one of the best choreographed fight scenes since the series began. At one point Cicada throws the dagger at the back of Killer Frost’s head and Caitlin’s voice tells Frost to duck which she does, saving them both. Cicada’s no match for Frost and she actually stabs him with her ice dagger. Cicada’s powers weaken enough for Barry to get his powers back at full force. He speeds over and starts beating Cicada to a pulp.

On the other side of the building Ralph has stretched himself onto the chopper and stretches down to grab each meta and bring them onto the chopper. Norvock coordinates the process and helps the metas not panic as they get ready to fly up to the chopper with Ralph.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Nora has healed and she monitors the fight with Iris. Iris realizes Barry isn’t going to stop. She tries to talk to him but he won’t listen. Frost’s holding Cicada’s dagger at bay with her cold blasts, keeping it away from him. Nora speeds over to the fight. Just as Barry’s about to deliver a lethal blow to Cicada, Nora yells, “Dad, no! Don’t!”

She reaches Barry and he leaves Cicada lying on the floor. Barry gives his daughter a hug while Cicada gets up. The dagger finally finds its way back into his hands and he flies off.

The next day at S.T.A.R Labs, Sherloque’s praising the fight team of The Flash and Frost (aka Flash Frost) and suggests that Cicada will not want to tangle with them anytime soon.

Cecille and Singh bust Officer Jones after finding the list of metas that he downloaded from the CCPD on his computer. Cecille reads his mind and discovers an evil meta controlled Jones’ mind at one point and made him do awful things which made him hate all metas.

At S.T.A.R. Labs, Caitlin walks into the speed lab and finds a brand new whiteboard with all her equations on it, a gift from Killer Frost. “This is as close to an apology as you’re going to get.” Caitlin assures Frost she would never take the cure. Frost asks if she’s cool with them growing old and gray together in the same body and Caitlin confirms she is. Frost tells Caitlin she left her a gift.

Caitlin finds a clear ice ball with blood inside…Cicada’s blood from her ice dagger. Caitlin now has the DNA she needed!

Sherloque has determined after running handwriting analysis that two people wrote in Nora’s time journal. He wonders who is the mastermind.

As the episode ends, Barry tells Iris he never knew he could love someone as much as he loves their daughter. Suddenly Barry has an idea and realizes how to stop Cicada. “He’s a father too. We save his little girl,” says Barry.

The Flash Season 5 Episode 11 Review:

Fast-paced, suspenseful, and featuring some very impressive fight scenes, season five episode 11 titled “Seeing Red” puts The Flash back in center stage as he tries to protect the metas of Central City from Cicada’s killing spree. The episode also revealed more about Caitlin and Killer Frost’s ever-growing relationship. In addition, the episode brought together the crime-fighting team of Flash Frost and revealed them to be an unbeatable duo.

The stand–out performance goes to Danielle Panabaker who juggles her double duty of being both Caitlin and Killer Frost wonderfully as each character had about the same amount of screen time. Panabaker portrays both the intelligent, sensitive, goodhearted, and dedicated Caitlin and the tough, wise-cracking, sassy, and formidable Killer Frost brilliantly. These two characters couldn’t be more different even as they reside in the same body, and Panabaker brings them to the small screen with a full and complete performance.

With Team Flash about to try to save Cicada’s niece and Sherloque getting closer to discovering Nora’s secret, it should get very interesting and complicated for the heroes very quickly.

‘Knightfall’ – Sneak Peek of Mark Hamill in Season 2

History’s just unveiled a short (30 second) teaser of Mark Hamill (the Star Wars film franchise) in full costume for season two of Knightfall. Hamill joined the cast for the popular drama’s second season and is playing a character named Talus. The teaser also shows returning Knightfall star Tom Cullen (Downton Abbey) as Landry.

According to History, Talus is “a battle-hardened Knight Templar veteran of the Crusades who survived captivity for ten years in the Holy Land and is tasked with training the new initiates to the Order. The voice over in this tease reveals Talus’ moral conflict with Landry (Cullen) as a Templar. The sword is the symbol that unites and divides the brotherhood this season, and its flames foreshadow what is to come for the Templars on Friday the 13th.”

The cast of season two also includes Tom Forbes (The Bastard Executioner) as Prince Louis and Genevieve Gaunt (The Royals) as Isabella.

Richard Rayner and Don Handfield created the series and serve as executive producers with Josh Appelbaum, Andre Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg, Jeremy Renner, Cyrus Voris, Ethan Reiff, Rick Jacobson, Arturo Interian, and Barry Jossen. Aaron Helbing is the season two showrunner and also executive produces.

The Knightfall Plot:

Knightfall goes inside the medieval politics and warfare of the Knights Templar, the most powerful, wealthy and mysterious military order of the Middle Ages who were entrusted with protecting Christianity’s most precious relics. The story of the Knights Templar has never been fully told until now, and the series goes deep into the clandestine world of this legendary brotherhood of warrior monks to learn who these knights were, how they lived, and what they died believing.

Starring Tom Cullen as the courageous and headstrong Templar Knight, Landry, who last season we left grief-stricken but hopeful, season two will explore this dark time in history from the Templar perspective, embracing an authentically grittier, darker, and more brutal Medieval period than has ever been seen before.

Magnum P.I. is a modern take on the classic series centering on Thomas Magnum, a decorated former Navy SEAL who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. A charming rogue, an American hero and a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan, Magnum lives in a guest cottage on Robin’s Nest, the luxurious estate where he works as a security consultant to supplement his P.I. business.

The “majordomo” of the property is Juliet Higgins, a beautiful and commanding disavowed MI:6 agent whose second job is to keep Magnum in line, with the help of her two Dobermans. One of Magnum’s biggest supporters is Teuila “Kumu” Tuileta, the unofficial “House Mom” and cultural curator of Robin’s Nest. With keys to a vintage Ferrari in one hand, aviator sunglasses in the other, and an Old Düsseldorf longneck chilling in the fridge, Thomas Magnum is back on the case!

‘The Magicians’ – Stella Maeve on Season 4 and the New Julia

Syfy’s The Magicians returns for its fourth season on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. The end of season three found the main players without magic and without their memories. More importantly, Julia (Stella Maeve) gave up her incredible powers to help her friends and is now also unable to perform magic.

During roundtable interview at the San Diego Comic Con, Stella Maeve teased that we’ll see Julia involved in a new relationship. Maeve also confessed she understands Julia’s sacrifice but was sad to see her lose her god-like powers so soon after embracing them.

So, it was an interesting end for season three…

Stella Maeve: “Yeah, disappointing for me, right?”

Did you feel disappointed?

Stella Maeve: “As Stella. I wish I had Julia’s reaction which was this is for the greater good. I have an immense amount of power that will never be depleted, and then it’s like as Stella I’ve waited three years for this moment and finally got it and then it was like taken away.”

How is she feeling at the beginning of season four?

Stella Maeve: “Well, we start out and our characters are not themselves. We actually had – I don’t even know if I’m allowed to say this – but we have other actors playing our characters. It’s crazy. You’ll see. You’ll meet these characters that you thought you knew but you don’t know them at all. So, it’s going to be interesting.”

Did you work with the actor playing you?

Stella Maeve: “I did. She was really cool. We could not be more different. I didn’t realize that that was what was going to happen. I thought we were going to play these completely other people. Like, different people. But they literally are just playing us in scenes. It’s wild.”

What does that mean for pre-existing dynamics between the characters? Are you playing new dynamics as actors and then seeing this other story play out?

Stella Maeve: “Not for Julia. I can’t speak for the other actors. That might be true, but not in this particular storyline.”

How does this other Julia differ from the Julia we know?

Stella Maeve: “Well, she’s an architect and she’s a little bit clumsy. She might not be a brunette…not that there’s anything wrong with that. (Laughing) She just might be different.”

What else is in store for Julia?

Stella Maeve: “Julia gets a little bit of a romantic life. I don’t know how far it goes, but that’s something to tease about. You may or may not know this suitor. He may or may not be a part of the cast.”

Some people enjoy the idea of Julia and the other Penny. Is that something you’d like to see?

(No answer but lots of smiles and a little whistling.)

Are there any magical or sci-fi books or films that you can compare this upcoming season to? Like, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Narnia?

Stella Maeve: “What would you consider the Library? What would you consider that in other [stories]? There’s some weird power hierarchies within this season. I don’t know how much of that I can really talk about and I don’t know that much about it, but I just know that Library may have power. They got the power. So, there’s no magic, right, and we’re trying to get the power.

But in regard to comparable comparisons, I don’t know. I’m waiting for Deadwood Magicians, right? I want to be Al. That’s it. I just want to be Al Swearengen.”

Have you pitched that?

Stella Maeve: “No, this is the first time I’m saying that out loud.”

Besides the characters trying to get their memories back, is there a bigger storyline that takes us through the season?

Stella Maeve: “I think that’s what it is, basically. It’s getting their identities back and once they’ve secured their identities, getting magic back…again.”

One of the really interesting dynamics on the show is Julia and Kady. What would you like see happen with that relationship?

Stella Maeve: “I hope that they wind up on the same side of the street and just there for each other. I feel like they are. The trivial things can’t compromise what they are, you know what I mean? I haven’t gotten to work with Jade (Tailor) once this season. Isn’t that crazy? I think they’re just trying to see people with other people, which is good because now we have like, how many? Nine regulars? So it’s nice to see.”

The Magicians Season 4 Stella Maeve

Do you have a favorite memory from any of the seasons?

Stella Maeve: “I can’t think of my all-time favorite. I’m sure it will have something to do with Jason (Ralph) and making me laugh. You know, season one he convinced me that he was wearing a wig the whole time. We’re shooting the last episode of the season and I went to touch it. He did this trick where he moved his hair. You know when you can move your skin? And I was like, ‘Oh my god, it’s a wig.’ And it wasn’t. That was earth-shattering for me. I was like, ‘Woah, everything I thought I knew I didn’t.’”

Do you pay him back?

Stella Maeve: “You know what? I haven’t. That’s my goal this season. I’m like, ‘Okay, tactics on how to prank Jason better than he’s pranked anyone.’ I haven’t come up with a good plan yet, but I’m working on it.”

Julia’s gone through so much trauma. Is there anything you really want for Julia?

Stella Maeve: “The thing is that I feel that Julia’s journey was acceptance and I feel like she made it to the other side. So now she’s just a part of the ride. She’s a god but doesn’t possess the god-like powers. She possesses still human emotions and the natural things we all have, just maybe on a different level. But I feel like the metaphor behind that is acceptance. It’s like all of these things can happen to us and they can be terrible, they can be wonderful, and we can have things ripped away from us and taken from us, and then we can have things given to us. And it’s like throughout it all we’re able to come full circle and accept who you are and where you are at any given point in your life.

I feel like season three was that for her. So, moving forward it’s kind of like she’s a part of the tribe. She’s okay. There doesn’t seem to be any perpetual dissatisfaction. For me as Stella I’m dissatisfied. I want to be a goddess! But, for her she’s just okay. It’s nice to see her be a part of the team and part of the journey and try to find magic. She’s not on a quest for any self-fulfilling prophecy. She’s just sort of like, ‘Okay, I want to figure all this out and help. What can we do?’ It’s nice.”

‘Manifest’ Season 1 Episode 12 Recap: “Vanishing Point”

Manifest Season 1 Episode 12

“That’s us…now,” says Ben (Josh Dallas) to Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) and Grace (Athena Karkanis) as they observe a drawing Cal (Jack Messina) made that might help them find him in season one episode 12 of NBC’s new mystery thriller, Manifest.

As the episode begins, Ben races over to his house and is upset and concerned when he finds police cars in front of the house. “No, no! I told you no police,” says Ben to himself, realizing Grace must have called the police about Cal’s disappearance. Ben hurries into the house where the lead detective is asking Grace if she’s aware of any reason Cal may have run off. The detective begins interrogating Ben, asking him where he was when Cal went missing. Both Ben and Grace are offended by the tone and line of questioning from the detective.

Meanwhile, Michaela is busy questioning Autumn (Shirley Rumierk) about Cal. Michaela informs her she knows she’s the mole and that she took Cal. Autumn swears she doesn’t know what she’s talking about. Just then Michaela receives a call from Olive (Luna Blaise) that the police think Ben’s behind Cal’s disappearance and that Michaela needs to come to the house right away. Michaela grabs Autumn and cuffs her, taking her into custody.

Somewhere in a military action room, an officer tells Jansen (Brandon Schraml) they have eyes and ears on the house and are monitoring all the police activity.

Michaela arrives at Ben’s house, leaving Autumn handcuffed in the car. She and Ben take Grace to Cal’s room and quickly bring her up to speed about the callings and how Cal may be the target of this mysterious Major. Ben tells Grace they need to get rid of the police because the Major can monitor them.

Michaela gets an idea and makes a call. Jared (J.R. Ramirez) enters the house a little while later and tells Ben and Grace that Cal is with his grandpa and is okay. Jared shows a photo to the lead detective on the case and the cops buy the lie and leave. Michaela thanks Jared and he replies, “No big deal – just my job at stake.”

Ben, Michaela, and Grace look through Cal’s drawings and find what they think might be a map that’ll help find him. They notice one page has been torn out. Grace recognizes one drawing of a small town they visited a while back, so she and Ben decide to check it out. Olive wants to help but Ben says she’s home base and for her to stay by a phone.

Michaela continues her questioning of Autumn in an interrogation room at the police station.

Back at the military meeting, Jansen’s informed Ben and Grace left but didn’t take their cars. Jansen wants them to keep looking for Cal’s parents and to call the Major with updates.

Michaela’s interrogation of Autumn finally forces the woman to admit that even if she knew where Cal was, she could never tell. She claims it’s not just her life in danger. Michaela realizes the Major has threatened Autumn with the life of someone she cares about.

Michaela does some digging and discovers Autumn has a daughter. She returns to confront Autumn with her discovery, and by the look on Autumn’s face Michaela knows she’s hit a nerve. “You traded a child for a child,” says Michaela, confronting Autumn. She then assures Autumn she still has time to do the right thing.

Back at the military meeting, Jansen’s informed that Autumn was taken into police custody. He calls the Major so she can pull a few strings and have Autumn released.

Ben and Grace borrow Danny’s car and drive to town. They get out and start asking the townspeople if they’ve seen Cal, showing his photo around. No one acknowledges having seen the boy. Grace tells Ben she doesn’t think Cal would have been taken if they were both living at home. Ben asks her not to blame herself and she tells him she doesn’t. Surprised, Ben says she threw him out and Grace responds by saying, “You just left…you didn’t fight me.”

Ben and Grace’s ridiculous fight is interrupted by Olive who sends them a text that she thinks she knows where Cal is. It’s a place only Olive and Cal know about, somewhere they used to go.

At the police station, Michaela pleads with Autumn to do the right thing and help her find Cal. Autumn admits she told the Major about Cal but she didn’t give him to her. Michaela asks her for the missing drawing but Autumn clams up.

While Ben and Grace are driving to where they suspect Cal’s been taken, Ben realizes they’re being followed. He leaves the road and drives down dirt roads through the woods and the black SUV mirrors his moves.

Autumn’s released and calls Jansen, telling him she knows where Cal’s located. Jansen calls off the SUV that’s following Ben and Grace and it races off in another direction. The SUV pulls up to an old cabin and the agents burst in and discover it’s empty. Autumn lied to help Michaela.

Autumn gives Michaela the drawing and it’s of her and her daughter. Autumn tells Michaela she never told Cal about her daughter but somehow he knew. Michaela shocks Autumn by informing her she knows where she can find her daughter and wishes her luck.

Michaela turns over the drawing and on the other side, there’s a drawing of a cabin in the woods. She texts Ben and Grace a photo of the drawing and tells Ben not to go inside until she gets there. Immediately afterward she experiences a calling and sees snow falling.

Ben and Grace drive to a fork in the road and are unsure which way to go. Ben realizes that one of Cal’s drawings is really a note telling them to turn left. They drive a little further and find the cabin in the woods. Not willing to wait for Michaela, Ben and Grace bust in and find Cal sitting on the floor cold but otherwise okay. Cal confesses he had to come to help someone. He adds that the person he’s supposed to help is almost there.

A man does in fact show up at the door and Ben grabs a poker to defend them. Cal doesn’t want his dad to hurt the stranger who barges in and collapses. Cal tells Ben it’s okay and that he needs their help. Ben realizes Cal had a calling.

The man passes out and Ben and Grace change him out of his cold, wet clothes. Cal brought a sleeping bag and bandages to treat his wounds. A little later Grace apologizes to Ben, realizing now what it’s like dealing with the calling and having a better understanding of what he’s been going through. Grace asks him from now on to always tell her everything and not to keep secrets. She believes they’ll deal with whatever is happening together.

Michaela shows up and notices the jacket the man was wearing. She tells Ben and Grace this is the man whose calling she has been experiencing. She recognizes the jacket. The man wakes up and says, “Michaela, it’s you. But, how?”

Jansen calls the Major and informs her Autumn gave them a phony lead. The Major (Elizabeth Marvel, finally appearing on screen) tells him not to worry. When he asks about whether to continue looking for Cal, she tells him that eventually the Stones will return to their home. The Major gets off the phone and tells a realtor agent she’ll take the apartment that looks out over New York City.

Back at the cabin, the stranger tells Ben and Michaela his name is Zeke (Matt Long) and that he was hiking when he became engulfed by a blizzard. He found a cave and burned pages of a magazine to keep warm. The last page had a photo of Michaela and a story about her going missing on Flight 828. Zeke tells them he felt as though Michaela was willing him to live and so he left the cave and kept going, saying he must find her and constantly seeing her face.

Zeke doesn’t understand how they’re alive because he knows they died on the plane. Michaela and Ben explain they came back and wonder why he didn’t see their return on the news. Ben asks him how long he was hiking and Zeke reveals it was two weeks. Ben takes the magazine page from him and looks at the date…it says 2017. Ben shows it to Michaela and they tell Zeke he lost a year. It’s now 2018.

‘The Magicians’ – Olivia Taylor Dudley on Season 4 and Alice’s Predicament

Magic’s gone as season four of Syfy’s hit drama, The Magicians, begins. The new season is set to premiere on January 23, 2019 and will find Eliot inhabited by The Monster and our favorite Brakebills students unaware of their pasts and with new non-magical identities. Plus, Alice (played by Olivia Taylor Dudley) is imprisoned by the Library.

The cast and executive producers of The Magicians took part in a Q&A at the San Diego Comic Con and also participated in roundtable interviews. During our interview, Olivia Taylor Dudley talked about what’s happening with Alice in the new season, Alice’s relationship with Quentin, and how she approaches the different versions of Alice.

Is “Dark Alice” truly evil?

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “No. I think you’re referring to Niffin Alice when she’s like off. I think that that will be her forever struggle is what she did as niffin. But I think that she became somebody different. Like, Elliot right now is a monster so when he comes back from being a monster – if that ever happens, I don’t know – he’ll probably struggle with the same thing: what did his physical body do while it was off being somebody else?

I think Alice is definitely not an evil person. I think that that is going to be her forever struggle is dealing with the guilt of that. This season is a big redemption story for her with her friends and trying to redeem her decisions from last season. I still stand by what she did. I think she did the right thing. The fans sure don’t. (Laughing) They’re still mad at me for it. But she was just trying to save everybody and save everybody the pain and heartache that magic causes. Nobody else seemed to be interested in that.”

Do you view these different Alices as separate characters?

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “Yes and no. I mean, they gave me such gifts by letting me play different versions of Alice, but the challenge is to make sure I keep the spirit of Alice throughout. When she was a niffin, she was very different, I thought. But, I don’t know. It’s the same girl. Just like every one of us has different parts of our brain, you can be very different with different people, I think it’s just an exploration of that.”

Where will catch up with Alice as season four begins? She knows what happened, but her friends don’t.

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “Right now, she’s just trying to escape jail. We pick it up right where we left off so she’s in library jail and it’s a dark place…unflattering clothing. She’s just trying to get word, a line, anything out to the outside world. I spend a lot of the beginning of this season alone trying to find anybody who can help her. But Alice is really smart. She’s the smartest and she relies on her wits to get her in and out of every situation, so that kicks in.”

What kind of state do we find her in mentally and emotionally in season four?

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “She’s very depressed. She doesn’t know where they are. She knows that she’s the only one who knows what happened. She’s fearful of all their lives and her own, so it’s very dark for Alice at the beginning of the season. I think it’s going to take a little while before she gets on her feet and starts letting the wheels turn.”

Do you feel comfortable after playing her for four seasons to talk to the writers if there’s something you don’t think feels like Alice?

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “Yeah, for sure. It’s rare that they would ever write something like that. I think the only thing they would ever make me uncomfortable as Alice is if they made her too funny. I know it’s not a fan favorite to not be funny, but Alice isn’t funny. She has dry humor which is the only kind of humor I like.

I used to do a lot of comedy and Alice can’t be the funny man in the room. There’s not enough room for it, so if something is too funny, I’d probably speak up about that. Whereas it’s the opposite with Elliot and Margo, you just punch it up all the time. But if they were too serious it wouldn’t work either.”

What about her relationship with Quentin?

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “Their relationship is my favorite thing about the books and the show. I miss it. I wish they were still together, but I think it’s a long journey for them. We’ll see – depending on how many seasons we get! (Laughing) But I think they’re magnets. No matter what, they’re going to always love each other. Right now, in this fourth season we’re filming they’re not together at the moment, but I’m sure that we’ll explore that relationship. We never haven’t explored it so I’m sure we will at some point.

I wish they were together. I love them together. I miss Alice and Quentin season one. They were innocent and sh*t happens and people get hard and mean and lonely. (Laughing) I don’t know.”

What have you learned from playing Alice? Has she taught you anything?

Olivia Taylor Dudley: “She’s taught me a lot. She’s given me a chance to play somebody who I normally don’t get to play. She’s definitely not typecast for me. I normally play something very different, but she’s the kind of character I’m interested in, so I don’t know.

She’s taught me to be very smart. Not that I’m dumb but she’s helped me be okay with respecting a smart woman, if that makes sense. Like instead of playing into some of the tropes of females on TV and film, she lets me be comfortable in just being smart. That’s what she has to offer and don’t ask for anything else or she’ll get real mad about it. I don’t know. I have a lot of respect for Alice. I think she’s really determined, which I really love about her.”

John Travolta, Bruce Willis, Melissa McCarthy, and even Donald Trump made the list of nominees for the 2019 Razzie Awards. Razzie voters had the difficult task of narrowing down the worst of 2018’s films and performances to five nominees in each category, selecting Gotti, The Happytime Murders, Holmes & Watson, Robin Hood, and Winchester to compete for the dishonor of being named 2018’s Worst Picture.

The annual Razzie Awards always take place the evening prior to the Academy Awards. This year’s no exception as the 39th Annual Razzie Awards will be held on February 23, 2019, with the Oscars following on February 24th. Unlike the Oscars, it’s unlikely any winners will put in an appearance to pick up their trophy valued at less than $5.00. Most actors don’t acknowledge their wins, however Sandra Bullock, Halle Berry, and Tom Green have all demonstrated they have a sense of humor by attending the awards ceremony. Bullock even brought DVD copies of her “winning” film, All About Steve, to pass out to attendees.
