The official trailer for Damsel just debuted along with a new poster for the Western set in 1870. The two-minute trailer features Robert Pattinson as a young man anxious to make Mia Wasikowska his bride. He’s even brought along a miniature horse to help seal the deal.
Damsel was written and directed by David Zellner and Nathan Zellner. In addition to Robert Pattinson (The Lost City of Z, Good Time) and Mia Wasikowska (Alice Through the Looking Glass, Crimson Peak), the cast includes David Zellner, Nathan Zellner, Robert Forster (Twin Peaks, Acts of Vengeance), and Joseph Biligiere (Yellow Rock).
Magnolia Pictures has set a June 22, 2108 theatrical release date.
The Plot: “It’s the age of The Wild West, circa 1870. An affluent pioneer, Samuel Alabaster (Robert Pattinson) ventures deep into the American wilderness to reunite with and marry the love of his life, Penelope (Mia Wasikowska). For his journey he brings Butterscotch, a miniature horse intended as a wedding present for his bride, and enlists drunkard Parson Henry (David Zellner) to conduct the ceremony. As they traverse the lawless frontier their once simple journey grows treacherous, and the lines between hero, villain, and damsel are blurred.
A loving reinvention of the Western genre from the Zellner brothers (Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter), Damsel showcases their trademark unpredictability, off-kilter sense of humor, and unique brand of humanism.”

Ryan Reynolds, currently in theaters starring in Deadpool 2, is confirmed to star in the action film, Six Underground. The drama’s set up with Skydance Media and Netflix and has Michael Bay (the Transformers film franchise) on board to direct.
The action thriller is based on Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick’s original idea. Reese and Wernick, co-writers of Deadpool and Deadpool 2, will be executive producing Six Underground. Deadpool ranks as the top grossing R-rated film of all time, and Deadpool 2 opened with the second biggest R-rated domestic weekend (behind only the original Deadpool).
Netflix and Skydance Media didn’t confirm the film’s plot in their official production announcement. However, The Hollywood Reporter reports a source has described the film as involving “six billionaires who fake their own deaths and form an elite team to take down bad guys.”
Michael Bay and Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are set to produce. Six Underground will be the first time either Michael Bay or Ryan Reynolds have worked on an original Netflix project.
According to Netflix and Skydance Media, Six Underground will begin filming sometime this summer. Netflix is aiming for a 2019 premiere of what will be one of their largest productions to date.
Ryan Reynolds’ non-Deadpool credits include The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Life, Woman in Gold, Mississippi Grind, The Voices, Safe House, Buried, Smokin’ Aces, Just Friends, and The Proposal. He’s attached to star in Clue and recently finished up work voicing the titular character in Detective Pikachu.
Director Michael Bay’s credits other than the big-budget Transformers action film series include 13 Hours, Pain & Gain, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, The Rock, and Bad Boys. Bay’s attached to direct the film adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s bestselling sci-fi novel, Robopocalypse.

Papillon is based on the bestselling books from Henri “Papillon” Charrière, with Aaron Guzikoswski (Prisoners) adapting Charrière’s work for the screen. The film reunites Sons of Anarchy‘s Hunnam with one of that series’ co-stars, Tommy Flanagan. The cast also includes Yorick Van Wageningen (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Roland Moller (Atomic Blonde), and Eve Hewson (The Knick).
Bleecker Street is targeting an August 24, 2018 theatrical release.
Henri “Papillon” Charrière books were previously made into a feature film directed by Franklin J Schaffner and released in 1973. The 1973 adaptation had Steve McQueen in the titular role and Dustin Hoffman as Louis Dega, the character Rami Malek’s playing in the 2018 adaptation. The original film earned an Oscar nomination in the Best Original Score category and Steve McQueen picked up a Golden Globe nomination in the Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category.
The Plot: Based on the international best-selling autobiographic books Papillon and Banco, the film follows the epic story of Henri “Papillon” Charrière (Charlie Hunnam), a safecracker from the Parisian underworld who is framed for murder and condemned to life in the notorious penal colony on Devil’s Island. Netflix just released a new trailer and poster for the documentary series, The Staircase. The series, which originally aired in 2004, was directed by Academy Award winner Jean-Xavier de Lestrade (Murder on a Sunday Morning) and explores the trial of novelist Michael Peterson who was accused of the murder of his wife, Kathleen, his conviction, and the subsequent legal fight for a new trial.
The original documentary series consisted of eight episodes. Two additional episodes were added five years ago, and Netflix added three more episodes they promise will bring the story full circle.
The Staircase will premiere on June 8, 2018.
The Plot:The Staircase opens on December 9, 2001, as a 48-year-old Kathleen Peterson is found dead and bloodied at the bottom of a staircase in the affluent North Carolina home she shared with her husband, successful novelist and local public figure Michael Peterson. Despite his frantic 911 call reporting the discovery of her body, Peterson becomes a suspect in the police’s investigation. Soon he is charged and forced to stand trial for his wife’s death.
Granted extraordinary access to the subjects and the courtroom, The Staircase embarks on one of the deepest and most revealing explorations of the criminal justice system ever seen. In addition to Peterson, who proclaims his innocence, we are introduced to a fascinating cast of real-life characters, from dogged defense attorney David Rudolf to austere prosecutor Freda Black to famed forensic expert Henry Lee, plus Peterson’s children and stepchildren.
And all throughout, the series challenges our notions of truth and bias (as Peterson’s bisexuality is revealed as a factor in his case) while delivering more twists than a scripted drama (including the eerily similar staircase death of a woman in Peterson’s past).
Three brand new Netflix original episodes expand the scope of de Lestrade’s comprehensive analysis of the Peterson case and bring The Staircase to its mesmerizing conclusion. Seen in its totality, the series is an engrossing examination of contemporary American justice and nothing less than an historic event in nonfiction filmmaking.
Fox dumped Lucifer which created one of the largest social media campaigns to save a series ever launched by fans. The #SaveLucifer and #PickUpLucifer continue to trend more than a week after the popular series was cancelled after airing for three seasons. Fox, likely in response to the fan campaigns, has announced they’ll air two “bonus” episodes which would have been part of season four, if it existed.
“Boo Normal” and “Once Upon a Time” will air back-to-back on Monday, May 28, 2018 beginning at 8pm ET/PT.
As series co-showrunner Joe Henderson explained on Twitter, the episodes aren’t connected to each other plot-wise. “The first episode is set after the finale (and will be a little confusing because of that, but roll with it and you’ll end up with a super fun episode). The second one stands COMPLETELY on its own.”
Henderson also revealed, “Just did the final sound mix for Lucifer 326, ‘Once Upon a Time,’ which will air next Monday. Hearing @neilhimself narrate the episode is… well, divine. #SaveLucifer #PickUpLucifer”
Season three stars Tom Ellis as Lucifer, Lauren German as Chloe, DB Woodside as Amenadiel, Lesley-Ann Brandt as Maze, Kevin Alejandro as Dan, Scarlett Estevez as Trixie, Rachael Harris as Linda Martin, Tricia Helfer as Charlotte, Aimee Garcia as Ella, and Tom Welling as Marcus Pierce/Cain.
The bonus episodes (which would have been a part of season four) guest casts include Neil Gaiman as God, Charlyne Yi as Ray-Ray/Azreal, Madeleine Coghlan as Beckett Wilson, Nadine Ellis as Iris/Purple Wolf, Louis Herthum as Lt. John Decker, Brian Tee as Ben Rogers, and David Meunier as Rex Wilson.
The “Boo Normal/Once Upon a Time” Plots: As Lucifer and the team investigate the murder of a child psychiatrist, Ella thinks about a big childhood secret that she’s been hiding. Then, in Part Two, which was directed by cast member Kevin Alejandro, an alternate dimension is visited where Lucifer not only has never met Chloe, but is granted the freedom of choice. “American Gods” author Neil Gaiman voices God, who serves as the narrator.

Kieran Culkin, Jeremy Strong, Alan Ruck, and Sarah Snook star in ‘Succession’ (Photo by Peter Kramer / HBO)
HBO has set a June 3, 2018 premiere date for the new dramatic series Succession from Oscar nominee Jesse Armstrong (In the Loop). The series’ first season will consist of 10 one-hour episodes that will air on Sundays at 10pm ET/PT.
“All through history, moments of succession are points of conflict,” stated series creator/executive producer/showrunner Jesse Armstrong. “Whether it’s the Roman Empire, Babylonian Empire, succession is tough, and often in political and national history, when a king, queen or leader has to leave the stage, they can find they want to linger in the limelight longer than anyone thought.”
Armstrong wrote the first episode and Adam McKay directed. Mark Mylod also directs and executive produces the new series. Additional executive producers include Frank Rich, Kevin Messick, Will Ferrell, and Jane Tranter.
“There’s no question that Succession, at its root, is a family story,” said director and executive producer Adam McKay. “There’s also a tragic side to it, where you see how massive wealth and power distort and twist and wound this family.”
The Season 1 Plot: Set in New York, Succession explores themes of power, politics, money, and family. Logan Roy (Brian Cox), the tough, powerful, aging patriarch, is head of Waystar Royco, a family-controlled international media conglomerate. He is married to his third wife, Marcia (Hiam Abbass), a loving, formidable partner.
Kendall Roy (Jeremy Strong), Logan’s eldest son from his second marriage, is currently a division president at the firm and the heir apparent. Roman Roy (Kieran Culkin), Kendall’s younger brother, is Logan’s outspoken, fun-loving son and no longer works at Waystar. Siobhan “Shiv” Roy (Sarah Snook), Logan’s only daughter and youngest child, has been pursuing a career in politics.
Connor Roy (Alan Ruck), Logan’s eldest son, and only child from his first marriage, has pursued an independent life in New Mexico. In the season premiere, the Roy siblings are reunited with their younger cousin, Greg (Nicholas Braun), who has moved from Canada to New York, seeking a foothold in the management of the firm’s theme parks.
On the periphery of the Roy family are Tom (Matthew Macfadyen), Shiv’s ambitious boyfriend and a senior executive at the firm, and Rava Roy (Natalie Gold), Kendall’s wife, with whom he shares two children and an emotional bond, despite their marital separation. Frank (Peter Friedman) is the firm’s COO, an old family friend, and a mentor to Kendall. In an effort to solidify his takeover of Waystar, Kendall is on the brink of buying out a digital media outfit from Lawrence (Rob Yang), its CEO and founder.

Warner Bros Pictures has unveiled the first official trailer for Mowgli, an interpretation of Rudyard Kipling’s work they describe as “the darkest telling of the beloved masterpiece.” The two and a half minute visually stunning trailer shows Mowgli running wild and free with his animal friends, and locked up in a cage by humans.
The studio also released a two-minute behind the scenes video featuring actor/director Andy Serkis describing what audiences can expect. “It’s not so much a child’s fairy tale. This has reality to it,” explains Serkis. “There is real consequence. This is definitely drawn from Kipling and has a much darker approach to the storytelling. There’s no singing or dancing by the animals, that’s for sure.”
The cast of the dramatic film includes Christian Bale as Bagheera, Benedict Cumberbatch as Shere Khan, Cate Blanchett as Kaa, Peter Mullan as Akela, Andy Serkis as Baloo, Matthew Rhys as John Lockwood and Naomie Harris as Nisha. The cast of the PG-13 action adventure film also includes Freida Pinto, Jack Reynor as Brother Wolf, Eddie Marsan as Vihaan, and Tom Hollander as Tabaqui. Rohan Chand stars in the title role.
Callie Kloves wrote the screenplay and Steve Kloves, Jonathan Cavendish, and David Barron served as producers. Mowgli was executive produced by Nikki Penny.
Warner Bros Pictures has set an October 19, 2018 theatrical release date.
The Plot: Blending live action and performance capture, the story follows the upbringing of the human child Mowgli (Rohan Chand) raised by a wolf pack in the jungles of India. As he learns the often-harsh rules of the jungle, under the tutelage of a bear named Baloo (Andy Serkis) and a panther named Bagheera (Christian Bale), Mowgli becomes accepted by the animals of the jungle as one of their own. All but one: the fearsome tiger Shere Khan. (Benedict Cumberbatch). But there may be greater dangers lurking in the jungle, as Mowgli comes face to face with his human origins.
The other story’s central animal characters are: Kaa, the snake (Cate Blanchett); the leader of the wolf pack, Akela (Peter Mullan); the scavenging hyena, Tabaqui (Tom Hollander); Nisha, the female wolf (Naomie Harris), who adopts the baby Mowgli as one of her cubs; Nisha’s mate, Vihaan (Eddie Marsan); and Mowgli’s Brother Wolf (Jack Reynor).
