CBS announced films is now underway on season two of the summer series Under the Dome starring Mike Vogel, Rachelle Lefevre, Dean Norris, Natalie Martinez, Britt Robertson, Alex Koch, and Colin Ford. Very loosely based on the bestselling book by Stephen King, the series follows the inhabitants of a small town who are cut off from the world after a dome of unknown and perhaps unearthly origin surrounds their city.

Season two is currently shooting in Wilmington, North Carolina. Author King wrote the first episode and series executive producer Jack Bender will direct episode one. King also returns as executive producer along with Steven Spielberg, Neal Baer, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Stacey Snider, and Brian K. Vaughan. CBS has set a June 30, 2014 premiere date for the second season.

Season one averaged 15.06 million viewers and helped prove that audiences will tune into new primetime shows during the hot summer months. Under the Dome earned the title of the most watched “scripted summer series” since 1992.

Cate Blanchett Hashtags Julia Roberts and Inquiring Minds Want to Know Why

Cate Blanchett 2014 Oscar Speech

Cate Blanchett was the frontrunner to snag the Best Actress Oscar for her performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, and as expected she did win the Oscar in a field that included Amy Adams (American Hustle), Sandra Bullock (Gravity), Judi Dench (Philomena), and Academy fave Meryl Streep (August: Osage County). And while winning was expected, Blanchett’s Oscar acceptance speech led to a lot of questions including why she said “Julia, #suckit” followed by “You know what I mean.”

Backstage in the press room, Blanchett was asked about that specific statement in an otherwise eloquent speech. And apparently, what happens between Blanchett and Roberts, stays between Blanchett and Roberts (although it likely didn’t occur in Vegas). Blanchett offered only a tiny clue to the origin of the hashtag statement in response to the question. “It happened in the bar with Ms. Roberts, and that’s all I am prepared to say,” said Blanchett.

Blanchett also spoke about the pressures of being an Oscar frontrunner. “What kind of pressure? An intense, unbearable pressure which I’m so glad is over,” explained Blanchett. “I mean, look, it has been every year. And having been in theatre primarily for the last six years, I can say this objectively. Every year I watch this thing remotely, and every year there are 5, 6, 10, 12, 20 performances by women that I am gobsmacked by and inspired by. And you know, it gets whittled down to five ‑‑ is it five of us? And I mean, to be in conversation with those women, you know, by proxy, because we are all crammed together into one category, I mean, that’s the privilege. And the rest is just chocolate.”

Hot off its Oscar wins in the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song categories comes official word that Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Frozen has passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office. Frozen now stands as the biggest non-sequel animated feature film in the history of motion pictures, and it’s now the second biggest international-grossing animated film of all time.

According to Disney, Frozen‘s brought in $388.8 million domestically and $611.5 million internationally. For those who prefer not to do the math themselves, that adds up to about $1,000.3 million. Frozen‘s the seventh film from the Mouse House to reach that mark, following in the footsteps of Marvel’s The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Pirates of the Caribbean 3 and 4, Toy Story 3, and Alice in Wonderland.

“With Frozen, we knew we had something truly special on our hands, and it has connected with fans and filmgoers around the world in a way we only dreamed was possible,” stated Alan Horn, Chairman, The Walt Disney Studios. “Animation is the cornerstone of our company, and thanks to the vision, dedication, and talent of our tremendous cast and filmmaking team, Disney Animation has come roaring back with a new classic for fans of all ages.”

The Official Frozen Plot: Walt Disney Animation Studios, the studio behind Tangled and Wreck-It Ralph, presents Frozen, a stunning big-screen comedy adventure. Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey — teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven — to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter.

Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls, and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Josh Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

Newcomer Lupita Nyong’o was poised enough to get through her speech but emotional enough to guarantee she meant every single word of her Oscar acceptance speech. After a rousing round of applause and a hug from her 12 Years a Slave director Steve McQueen, Nyong’o embraced the Oscar statuette and thanked the Academy for the incredible honor. She also talked about how she realizes the joy she’s experiencing in her life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s, and she saluted Patsy as well as the real Solomon Northup whose memoir inspired the film.

“Steve McQueen, you charge everything you fashion with a breath of your own spirit,” said Nyong’o. “Thank you so much for putting me in this position. This has been the joy of my life. I’m certain that the dead are standing about you and watching and they are grateful and so am I.

Chiwetel, thank you for your fearlessness and how deeply you went into telling Solomon’s story. Michael Fassbender, thank you so much. You were my rock. Alfre and Sarah, it was a thrill to work with you. Joe Walker, the invisible performer in the editing room, thank you. Sean Bobbitt, Kalaadevi, Adruitha, Patty Norris, thank you, thank you, thank you, I could not be here without your work.”

The Selfie That Broke Twitter

Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar Selfie Breaks Twitter

Ellen DeGeneres did a lot of playing around with the audience during the 2014 Oscars telecast, ordering pizza, sharing it with the stars (including Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), and asking Harvey Weinstein to fork over money for the tip. She also sat in a few empty chairs and just made her way around the first few rows talking to Oscar nominees and other celebs who had the choice seats right up front.

But easily the most talked about moment of the night as far as DeGeneres’ duties as a host were concerned came when she decided to take a selfie with a few of the A-listers and Tweet the photo. The resulting photo proceeded to break Twitter. That’s right, Twitter went down in the middle of the Oscar broadcast which wasn’t good news for all of those

Not only did the photo temporarily break Twitter, it also set a new record as the most re-tweeted tweet. As I type this, it has over 2.2 million re-tweets, and that number’s still growing. And in case you’re wondering who that is peeking in on the left side of the photo next to Jennifer Lawrence, it’s Oscar-winner Jared Leto.

Matthew McConaughey Delivers a Moving Oscar Acceptance Speech

Matthew McConaughey kept it together for most of his Best Actor Oscar acceptance speech but choked up a bit when he talked about the importance of his mother, deceased father, his wife, and his children. McConaughey earned his first Oscar for the dramatic film Dallas Buyers Club and as a Best Actor nominee, had to sit through nearly three hours of the awards show before learning if he would be taking home the Oscar statuette.

McConaughey’s co-star Jared Leto also went home an Oscar winner, however, he learned his fate right off the bat. Leto’s Best Supporting Actor category was the first award of the night, which meant Leto could actually relax and have fun for the rest of the evening.
