‘Deep Rising’ Trailer: Jason Momoa Narrates Eco-Thriller Documentary

Aquaman‘s Jason Momoa narrates Deep Rising, a timely documentary that explores the connection between sustaining and preserving the deep ocean floor and battling the energy crisis. Momoa, who also serves as an executive producer, explains that 4,000 meters underwater on the ocean floor, an energy revolution is underway. The trailer then shows how corporations want to strip mine the ocean floor, disturbing the environment in pursuit of resources to be used making electric batteries.

Matthieu Rytz (Anote’s Ark) directs and produces, with Momoa, Sébastien Lépinard, Julie Lépinard, Shari Sant, Shannon O’Leary Joy, Tiffany Schauer, Jim Angell, Annie Roney, Addison Fischer, Olivia Fischer, and Dona Bertarelli executive producing.

“Ultimately, I want Deep Rising to plant seeds of hope and inspire us by making it clear that a green energy revolution is still within our reach if we are willing to radically put an end to our destructive behaviors and create a truly regenerative economic and social architecture,” stated Rytz.

Deep Rising currently sits at 78% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes after premiering at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival. Abramorama’s planning a limited release on October 27, 2023, followed by a wider expansion in Laemmle theaters on November 3, 2023.

Deep Rising Sea Toad

Deep Rising Synopsis:

Five years after Anote’s Ark, Matthieu Rytz returns with this up-to-the-minute tale of geopolitical, scientific, and corporate intrigue that exposes the machinations of a secretive organization empowered to greenlight massive extraction of metals from the deep seafloor that are deemed essential to the electric battery revolution. Narrated by Jason Momoa, Deep Rising illuminates the vital relationship between the deep ocean and sustaining life on Earth.

The documentary also follows mining startup The Metals Company, as it pursues funding, public favor, and permission from the International Seabed Authority to mine wide swaths of the Pacific Ocean floor. Rytz’s fly-on-the-wall access observes extraction companies as they co-opt scientific studies and deliver pitches to investors, proposing how the costs of industrializing our Earth’s last pristine environment can be justified to access metals they claim will benefit all of mankind.

As oil conglomerates pivot investments to deep-ocean mining, Deep Rising examines humanity’s destructive pattern of extracting materials for profit and asks why we don’t choose, instead, to develop abundant resources to solve our energy problems.

‘The Exorcist: Believer’ Video: Ellen Burstyn on Reprising Chris MacNeil

It’s been 50 years since Oscar winner Ellen Burstyn (Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore) earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role as Chris MacNeil, mom of Regan (Linda Blair), in the original The Exorcist film. Burstyn hasn’t been involved in any of The Exorcist projects since portraying the terrified mother of a young girl possessed by a demon in the 1973 blockbuster horror movie. However, The Exorcist: Believer managed to lure her back, and in this behind-the-scenes video, Burstyn discusses her return.

The Exorcist: Believer opens in theaters on October 6, 2023.

In addition to Ellen Burstyn, the cast includes Oscar nominee Leslie Odom, Jr (One Night in Miami), Lidya Jewett (Good Girls), Olivia O’Neill, Emmy winner Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), Grammy winner Jennifer Nettles, and two-time Tony winner Norbert Leo Butz.

David Gordon Green (2018’s Halloween, Halloween Kills, Halloween Ends) directs from a screenplay he co-wrote with Peter Sattler, based on characters created by William Peter Blatty. Blumhouse’s Jason Blum and Morgan Creek Entertainment’s David Robinson and James G. Robinson serve as producers. Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, Stephanie Allain, Ryan Turek, and Atilla Yücer executive produce.

Lionsgate released this synopsis of The Exorcist: Believer:

Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Odom, Jr) has raised their daughter, Angela (Jewett) on his own. But when Angela and her friend Katherine (O’Neill) disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil.

Ellen Burstyn reprises her iconic role as Chris MacNeil, an actress who has been forever altered by what happened to her daughter Regan five decades before.

‘Saw X’ Video Reveals How X Fits Into the Franchise

Director Kevin Greutert says that with Saw X, their goal was to make a new addition to the franchise that felt like the early Saw movies. Greutert provided a sneak peek behind the scenes at the upcoming tenth film of the popular horror franchise in a two-minute “Legacy” featurette released nine days out from the film’s theatrical debut.

Saw franchise producers Mark Burg and Oren Koules described the September 29, 2023 release as being how they envision Saw II, with the action taking place just weeks after the end of the original Saw. Because of that, it was necessary to replicate the look of the original films down to the grittiness and color palette. “We’re working with a cinematographer here [Nick Matthews] who has just done a fabulous job,” says franchise star Tobin Bell.

Joining Bell in Saw X are Shawnee Smith, Synnøve Macody Lund, Steven Brand, Michael Beach, and Renata Vaca. Peter Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg wrote the screenplay.

Lionsgate offers this description of Saw X:

“John Kramer (Bell) is back. The most chilling installment of the Saw franchise yet explores the untold chapter of Jigsaw’s most personal game. Set between the events of Saw I and II, a sick and desperate John travels to Mexico for a risky and experimental medical procedure in hopes of a miracle cure for his cancer – only to discover the entire operation is a scam to defraud the most vulnerable.

Armed with a newfound purpose, John returns to his work, turning the tables on the con artists in his signature visceral way through a series of ingenious and terrifying traps.”
