The cast of NBC’s hit series Grimm will once again be raising funds for the OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital via the ‘Grimm Gala’. The fundraising event will be held on February 13, 2016 and is a way for the Portland-based cast and crew to give back to the community that’s embraced them over the years. The second Grimm Gala is sold-out, however Grimm fans can still be involved in the fundraiser by visiting Omaze.com where there will be opportunities to win Grimm prizes including a chance to hang out with the cast and be transformed into a Wesen.
The Grimmster Endowment and Grimm Gala were inspired by Sasha Roiz who plays Captain Sean Renard in the popular series. “We’ve been shooting Grimm in Portland for a number of years now, and I speak for the whole cast and crew when I say we consider Portland our adopted hometown,” said Roiz. “Our involvement with OHSU Doernbecher is a meaningful way for us to give back to the community.”
The Grimm Gala raised $300,000 in 2015 for the Grimmster Endowment and because Comcast and NBCUniversal underwrote the costs, every dollar raised went to support “uncompensated care, travel, lodging, and other services integral to the care and comfort of OHSU Doernbecher’s patients and families in need.”
Comcast’s Senior Regional Vice-President Rodrigo Lopez serves as the host of the event and says, “We pride ourselves on both looking forward and giving back: looking forward with our cutting-edge technology and giving back to our community through events like this.”

Beat Bugs is set to introduce the music of The Beatles to a new generation. Josh Wakely created, writes, directs, and produces the children’s series which will feature big name artists covering classic tunes by The Beatles. The animated Netflix series from Grace: A Storytelling Company, Thunderbird, and Beyond Screen Production will debut in August 2016.
Among the musicians who’ll be performing Beatles covers are Eddie Vedder, P!nk, James Bay, Sia, The Shins, Of Monsters and Men, Chris Cornell, Regina Spektor, James Corden, and Birdy. Beatles fan favorite songs set to be featured in the series include “All You Need is Love,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds,” and “Help!”.
“Personally, I’m very grateful to be part of Josh’s vision,” said Eddie Vedder. “A tremendous show for kids that combines beautiful animation with great stories and obviously some of the best songs ever written.”
“It’s a rare occasion to be presented with a truly one-of-a-kind children’s show that is so perfectly suited to Netflix,” said Andy Yeatman, director of original kid’s content at Netflix. “Josh and his team have not only developed a compelling children’s show filled with life lessons, but they’ve built a show that will transcend generations and have parents and grandparents enjoying right alongside their little ones.”
“Bringing Beat Bugs to life on Netflix and having a platform to re-imagine this universally acclaimed music for families around the world is an exhilarating and rewarding experience. Our partners have been fantastic in making this concept a vivid reality, and this is a great example of the innovative and fresh storytelling at the heart of Grace’s ethos,” said Wakely.
The Beat Bugs Plot:
Beat Bugs incorporates songs from the Lennon/McCartney ‘Northern Songs’ catalog, to tell uplifting and life-affirming stories filled with hope and melody. World-leading artists, animators, and writers have come together to work on this extraordinary show. The Beat Bugs are charming, funny, adventurous, and have a knack for getting themselves into mischief and mayhem. Each of the five friends (Jay, Kumi, Crick, Buzz, and Walter) has a distinctive personality, and they display the charm and energy of five knockabout, lovable kids.
They are best friends who band together to explore and learn in an overgrown suburban backyard, which to them is their entire universe.
As the title of The Flash season two episode 13 indicates, most of the action takes place on Earth-2. That means The Flash fans were treated to a lengthy look at Killer Frost and Deathstorm, as well as surprise doppelgangers galore. ‘Welcome to Earth-2,’ which aired on February 9, 2016, was the first half of a two-parter that left our Earth-1 heroes in grave danger at the hands of Zoom.
The Flash Recap:
The breaches are being closed and Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) is ready to return to Earth-2 and find his daughter with the help of Team Flash. With one breach open, Barry (Grant Gustin) just needs to say goodbye to Joe (Jesse L. Martin) and Iris (Candice Patton) before taking off on this adventure. Iris is understandably concerned but Barry tells her he needs to help Dr. Wells and he’s not doing it because he’s trying to escape his life.
Jay (Teddy Sears) warns Barry up is down and down is up, and whatever he does he should not let himself “get sucked in emotionally.” Barry reminds Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) and Joe that he and Cisco (Carlos Valdes) should be gone no longer than 48 hours, but if they’re late Caitlin should close the breach (she says no way). Barry gets a hearty hug from Joe and Cisco leaves Caitlin with a letter to give to his parents if something happens.
Harrison, Barry, and Cisco head into the breach, with Jay warning Barry to keep his speed up. Cisco has a panic attack but doesn’t chicken out. And off they go! Unfortunately, the breach falls apart after they’ve gone through. They’ll have to find a way to make it stable again or else Barry and Cisco will be trapped on Earth-2.
The trio arrive on Earth-2 and Cisco and Barry are overwhelmed by this bizarre yet familiar world. They take selfies and are amazed by inventions that are just ideas back on Earth-1. And then it happens, they run into Dr. Henry Hewitt – an evil meta-human on Earth-1 who’s a friendly-as-can-be lab assistant on Earth-2. After getting over that shock, they head to Dr. Wells’ S.T.A.R. Labs where Cisco puts on his special googles but they don’t work. Did he lose his powers? No, Earth-2 is vibrating at a different frequency. Up pops a news report with a geeky-looking Barry explaining what the CCPD is doing about Zoom. Barry figures out his doppelganger is doing the same job he does on Earth-1 and quickly formulates a plan. He speeds out, grabs Earth-2’s Barry, and brings him back to the lab. E-2’s Barry is completed overwhelmed, but he’s always wanted to meet Dr. Harrison Wells and geeks out. They knock him out and E-1’s Barry takes his place.
At E-2’s CCPD, Barry sees the Captain is now a criminal and Floyd Lawton/Deadshot is now a cop who can’t hit the broad side of a barn. He’s also Iris’ partner (she’s a detective). And, Barry and Iris are married in this world! Iris’ metahuman alert app shows Barry is a metahuman but she thinks it must be on the fritz.
And now we get to meet Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker looks amazing in this costume!) who’s a complete badass. She makes bad guys tremble in fear for good reason: her kiss is deadly. As she’s getting rid of two bad guys in strolls Deathstorm (Robbie Amell) fully engulfed in fire. They exchange a passionate kiss and she says, “Good thing the only man I can kiss is the only man I want to.” He tells her people just came through the breach and she’s excited she gets to kill someone from another Earth.
E-2’s Barry and Iris arrive at home and Iris starts taking off her clothes. Barry looks away, and Iris wants to know why he’s acting weird. She tells him his mom called and Barry is stunned. (The names listed on the old-fashioned phone’s speed dial are Dad, Mom & Dad, Eddie, Bruce, Hal, and Diana.) He calls his mom and can’t speak when she answers. He finally says, “Mom,” but gets emotional as they talk. He can’t tell her why but the call’s definitely affected him, especially when she brings up the possibility of being a grandmother. She tells him she loves him and he says it back before they hang up.
Back at E-2 S.T.A.R. Labs, Cisco and Harrison are getting on each other’s nerves as usual. Cisco really wants to find his doppelganger and he hopes he’s like an Elon Musk in this world. Harrison wants Barry back before Zoom appears, but Cisco’s not worried about Barry.
Barry and Iris go to Jitterbugs night club where Joe’s the singer. Barry’s once again shocked. E-2’s Joe demands to be called Joseph by Barry – and he calls Barry Bartholomew. This Joe’s not a fan of Barry’s relationship with his daughter. Joe calls Barry selfish and says it’s all Barry’s fault that Iris is a cop in the first place and not a writer.
Back on E-1, Jay and Caitlin work on putting back together the speed cannon. Meanwhile, a new metahuman is on the loose. Adam Fells/Geomancer (Adam Stafford) is wreaking havoc while The Flash is away and Joe wants Jay to dose up on Velocity 6 so he can take down Geomancer. Joe says Barry is protecting Earth-2 and Earth-1 needs a Flash right now. Joe leaves and Jay confides to Caitlin that being the fastest man alive wasn’t enough for him on E-2. He’s taken V6 before and there are definitely side effects. V6 is what’s killing him – not Zoom taking his speed. Caitlin promises she’ll figure this whole thing out.
Joe sings “My Funny Valentine” and Barry really wants Iris to explain why he and Joe don’t like each other. Suddenly, all of the metahuman warning apps go off as in walk Killer Frost and Deathstorm. Barry can’t believe his eyes. Killer Frost wants to know who is the ‘breacher’ and no one says anything. Iris tries to put them under arrest and Barry suddenly says, “Caitlin.” Killer Frost says she hasn’t heard that name in ages and hates the name, shooting icicles at Iris which Barry stops. Iris makes a run for it but Deathstorm throws fire at her, with Joe taking the hit so Iris wouldn’t get hurt.
Barry uses his speed to remove Killer Frost and Deathstorm from the room, taking them outside where they can face off without innocent people getting hurt. Killer Storm’s been dying to kill The Flash, but she can’t hit him with her ice. Deathstorm can’t hit him with fire either, but Killer Frost is really getting off on this battle. The Flash wins this round but the bad guys promise they’ll be back.
At S.T.A.R. Labs, Cisco can’t believe Caitlin and Ronnie’s doppelgangers are evil but he does approve of their nicknames. Harrison’s mad they got involved in this battle and that Barry got involved in the lives of the E-2 doppelgangers who are not the people he knows on Earth. Harrison knows it won’t be long before Zoom figures out they’re there, ruining the element of surprise. But Barry’s determined to help E-2’s Joe and Iris, against Harrison’s wishes.
Back on Earth, Joe and the Captain are trying to figure out what to do about Geomancer.
On E-2, Joe’s in bad shape when he comes to in the hospital. The only thing he hates more than metahumans are hospitals. The dislike between Joe and Barry is gone because Barry saved Iris. Joe tells Barry to take care of Iris and then dies.
Iris and Lawton gear up to go take down Killer Frost and Deathstorm. Barry arrives at CCPD with Cisco who greets Iris – but Iris doesn’t know him. Barry introduces him as a friend from S.T.A.R. Labs who built a weapon they can use to neutralize Killer Frost’s powers. Iris won’t let Barry go with them because she just lost her father and won’t take a chance on losing her husband. Cisco says he can handle himself and he’s the only one who can use the weapon, so Iris grudgingly lets him go with them to take on the metahumans. Of course, E-1 Barry is going to help Iris, but Iris doesn’t know that.
Back on E-1, Joe and the CCPD confront Adam Fells/Geomancer who doesn’t believe The Flash will show up and thinks Joe’s making empty threats. Geomancer hits the ground, causing shockwaves when suddenly Jay shows up as The Flash (he used Velocity 7). Unfortunately, the V7 wears off before he can neutralize Geomancer. Fortunately, a few gunshots to the body make Geomancer run away.
On E-2, Iris, Lawton, and Cisco investigate a warehouse where Killer Frost and Deathstorm are supposedly holed up. The tip was right and Killer Frost and Deathstorm confront the trio, telling the cops to drop their weapons. They do, and Cisco secretly picks one up. Cisco asks if Martin Stein is inside him and Ronnie says he hasn’t let him out in years. Cisco says he can’t believe they work for Zoom and a stranger enters, announcing they work for him and he works for Zoom. It’s Cisco’s doppelganger!
Iris wants to know what’s going on, and E-2’s Cisco says he knew E-1 Cisco was coming even before he went through the breach. E-2’s Cisco goes by Reverb – E-1’s Cisco is Vibe. Reverb is disappointed with Vibe, and Vibe knows the feeling. “I’m not sure what’s worse, the fact that you’re part of Zoom’s gang or that weird Samurai situation you’ve got going on on top of your head there.” Reverb wonders what would happen if Zoom wasn’t running the show anymore, telling Vibe that he doesn’t even understand his own powers. “You could be a god. We could be gods,” says Reverb.
Killer Frost interrupts and Reverb quickly shuts her up (she’s obviously aware of how powerful he is). Reverb wants to know if Vibe wants to run Central City and Vibe yells, “Flash, save us!” A fight ensues and Vibe says he isn’t going to the dark side with Reverb. Lawton tries shooting Reverb but completely misses, and Reverb easily flings him aside. Vibe is impressed and wants to know if that’s something he can also do. It is, and Reverb can show him how to do it. The fight rages on around them, with Deathstorm throwing fire at The Flash and The Flash dodging. Reverb and Deathstorm team up on The Flash and he’s down for the count. Killer Frost makes them stop before they kill him because Zoom wanted The Flash alive. She warns them that they know what Zoom will do if they don’t obey him, and suddenly Zoom’s there and he takes down Deathstorm. Zoom also takes down Reverb because they didn’t leave The Flash unharmed. As Cisco and Iris watch, Zoom speeds off with Barry.
Back on E-1, Caitlin patches up Jay and says she’ll work on Velocity 8. They need to work on the breach and they only have one day left to do it.
On E-2, Barry comes to and he’s in a glass cell next to Harrison’s daughter. He promises they’ll get her out and Zoom shows up to tell him not to make promises he can’t keep. “Look around. This is the last place you’ll ever see,” says Zoom.

The cast of ‘Fuller House’ (Photo Credit: Netflix)
The cast of Full House is back together for the Netflix series Fuller House set in the old Tanner home. Netflix has unveiled the Full House follow-up official trailer, focusing on the reunion of Candace Cameron Bure, Jodie Sweetin, and Andrea Barber. The series will feature guest appearances by John Stamos (Jesse Katsopolis), Bob Saget (Danny Tanner), Dave Coulier (Joey Gladstone), Lori Loughlin (Becky Katsopolis) and Scott Weinger (Steve Hale).
Fuller House arrives on February 26, 2016.
The original Full House series aired from 1987 to 1995 and focused on Stamos, Saget, and Coulier’s characters. Of the main cast members, only the Olsen Twins – Mary-Kate and Ashley – aren’t part of Fuller House.
The Plot: In Fuller House, the adventures that began in 1987 on Full House continue, with veterinarian D.J. Tanner-Fuller (Candace Cameron Bure) recently widowed and living in San Francisco. D.J.’s younger sister/aspiring musician Stephanie Tanner (Jodie Sweetin) and D.J.’s lifelong best friend/fellow single mother Kimmy Gibbler (Andrea Barber), along with Kimmy’s feisty teenage daughter Ramona (Soni Nicole Bringas), all move in to help take care of D.J.’s three boys — the rebellious 12-year-old Jackson (Michael Champion), neurotic 7-year-old Max (Elias Harger) and her newborn baby, Tommy Jr (Messitt Twins).
Philippa Gregory’s bestselling book The White Princess will be made into an eight episode limited series on Starz. Gregory’s The White Queen aired on Starz in 2013 and, according to the network, was the first original series to pull in more women than male viewers on Starz. The period drama averaged 4.8 million viewers and earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations.
Writer Emma Frost (The White Queen, The Man in the High Castle) is back as showrunner and executive producer, with Gregory, Colin Callender, and Michele Buck also on board as executive producers. The series is currently in the pre-production stage and Starz is eyeing a 2017 premiere.
“The White Queen was a phenomenal performer at Starz, averaging 4.8 million multiplatform viewers per episode in the United States,” said Carmi Zlotnik, Managing Director for Starz. “There is a dearth of programming that tells women’s stories and The White Queen was embraced with great success by audiences worldwide. The passionate fanbase for Philippa Gregory’s historical novels are undeniable and we are confident The White Princess will become the next must-see fandom drama series.”
The White Princess Plot:
The year is 1485 and Henry Tudor is king, having snatched the crown from Richard III in a surprise victory at the Battle of Bosworth. Elizabeth of York, “The White Princess,” is faced with marrying Henry, the man who has just killed her lover. While Elizabeth’s mother Dowager Queen Elizabeth “The White Queen” encourages her to marry to preserve the York claim of title and ensure her family’s safety, Henry’s mother Margaret Beaufort detests the idea, but knows it is the only way for her son to stay on the throne and unify a country divided by war.
In the court of Burgundy, the Duchess rules over a new enemy stronghold for disenfranchised Yorkists and all of Henry Tudor’s enemies. It is from here that a Pretender is mustering an army. He claims to be brother to the Queen, and the true heir to the throne. But is he the missing prince from the tower sent by his mother, the White Queen? Or a counterfeit prince – a low-born enemy to Henry Tudor and his York princess wife?
Princess Elizabeth must choose between Tudor wife and York princess – between her new husband and baby son, and the boy who claims to be her beloved lost brother. Has the rose of York come home at last and at what cost to her?
The White Princess tells the story of one of the most fascinating periods of British history, spanning the winter court of Henry Tudor – uniquely from the women’s point of view. The most ruthless players in history will stop at nothing to support their own causes and those of the ones they love.
Louie Anderson as Christine Baskets in ‘Baskets’ (Photo by Ben Cohen/FX)
Louie Anderson says he did not hesitate to say yes when Louis C.K. approached him to play the part of Zach Galifianakis’ character’s mother in FX’s Baskets. Louis C.K. asked him if he’d like to play the role of Christine Baskets and Anderson was immediately on board with the idea. Christine is a sweet, sensitive yet strong woman and in a conference call with the press, Anderson discussed getting into the role and why he embraced Christine.
Baskets airs on FX on Thursday nights at 10pm ET/PT.
Louie Anderson Interview:
Have you ever played a character where you had to dress like a woman before?
Louie Anderson: “I did do a tiny little piece in Dom Irrera’s comedy where I was a maid where I came in and just did like a walk-through as a maid. That’s the only time. Before that nothing that I’m aware of.”
Has dressing and acting like a woman helped you understand what it’s like to be a woman?
Louie Anderson: “Well, one of the things is I had a mom who really was representative of strong women and she was in a difficult situation with an alcoholic husband. She had 11 children and she held down the fort and provided a loving atmosphere in a toxic world that we grew up in. So, I had a great role model there and I have five sisters that I got to see all the goods and bads of growing up a woman, from a girl to becoming a woman and how they were treated. So I think that just by osmosis I really got a lot out of that.
But my mom also was a very funny person so I started imitating her in my act in the ‘80s quite heavily and it’s the way that the cartoon was created. I did me as a little kid and my mom and my dad’s voice and that’s what brought Life with Louie together. I’ve always done it, but this is a different character and so I would say where I got my training and then after becoming Christine each time on the set I stayed in character. I wasn’t Louie Anderson; didn’t let people call me Louie. On the trailer it was written Christine. Zach or I were the first people in makeup so people never saw me otherwise. I left right afterwards. I tried to stay in character and yeah, people treat you different. They treated me oftentimes as a mom when they were asking me questions. Many of them called me Christine. It was really a good experience.
To answer your question more directly, I appreciate the fact but I really am playing a very strong character with a lot of frailties underneath it all but she’s trying to keep up appearance for the people around her and for her family. So, she’s a pretty complicated character but I really tried to play her as a really real person. That’s what I was going for during the whole experience.”
What do you think it is about certain comedies that makes them feel timeless?
Louie Anderson: “I think the thing that keeps comedy timeless is to not fix it on any particular thing that’s going on. Like, if you mention an event – a current event. If you use topical things in a comedy or within a show, then that will date it immediately within a week. And I think what keeps comedy really fresh and forever, you can go back to Lucy, is relationships. The black and white turns to color on TV but the relationships don’t change at all. You know, you have Lucy and Ricky, you have Father Knows Best. You have Leave It to Beaver and All in the Family. The shows that hold up the best are dealing with issues like I don’t want to go to school, I don’t want to work, I don’t want to go on anymore. I think what keeps comedy like that is to not put it in a time warp. To not put it in the ‘70s or the ‘80s. I think Baskets could be timeless and I do think FX does a great job about that. I think what they look for are people who are trying to create something that is timeless but also is so original.”
Do you favor a particular subgenre of comedy?
Louie Anderson: “I like the subtle stuff that is wrapped in a thousand innuendos and a thousand nuances. Like sometimes when I’ve watched the episodes of Baskets, I would notice something later that Jonathan Krisel did. I’d go, ‘Oh my god, I never even saw that the first time I watched it.’ I think layers is how you make that stuff.
I find myself stopping on silly comedies all the time because I still feel Gilligan could get off the island. You know what I mean? Even a silly show like that… I think they all play on the fact that we’re all trapped on an island somewhere and I think what Baskets is is I think it could become remembered as one of the great family comedies even though it might be the weirdest family. But this show is all about families.”
What type of fan reaction have you been receiving?
Louie Anderson: “You know, I quit reading all of the reviews. People keep sending them to me. Don’t kid yourself, I’ve read a lot of them but I just said I’ve got to be careful. My head’s already so giant that I don’t want it to get any bigger. Some of my favorite things that fans have said is, ‘Louie Anderson is the funniest woman on TV.’ Another one is, ‘Would you be my mom?’ It really made me laugh. So, it’s been really good.
I’ve had just an overwhelming fun time with the funny stuff like that because I think people are liking Christine. I think they’re liking good things about her and I think they enjoyed the kind of bad things about Christine. The other day I was at breakfast and I was leaving and a young woman goes, ‘Oh! You’re what’s-her-name…Christine! My boyfriend’s going to be so jealous that I met Christine.’ I just found it to be so sweet and charming. I was at a Super Bowl party and people were asking people next to where I was sitting, ‘Is that that guy woman comic?’ ‘Guy woman comic’ really made me laugh. It’s funny, I’ve had such a positive response and then I just block anyone who says anything mean.”
Is the show mostly scripted or do you have the opportunity to improvise?
Louie Anderson: “There were scripts for everything so that was our guide, and then Jonathan allowed us to [go off script]. I would say to him, ‘Jonathan, can I read this like my mom would say it?’ Or, ‘Can I read this like my sister when she was mad at me would say it?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, you can do anything.’ So we had that kind of freedom. Zach is so great also. He likes to try a million things. In not a complaining way, we did a thousand takes for each thing. We did a lot of takes. Jonathan would laugh if he knew I said a thousand, but we did a lot of takes until he really felt like he had it. He’s a fantastic director to work with.”
What do you think it is about Baskets in particular that resonates with its viewers?
Louie Anderson: “I think everybody wants to do their thing, like Zach’s character Chip does. He wanted to be something. He had an idea of what he wanted to be and he wanted to at least try it or figure he could be good at it. I think comedians in general want to make people laugh to make people feel better. And then I think the thing they like is that everybody has or knows a person like Christine in a family. And I think they know that Christine is trying to hold her somewhat crumbling family together and trying to do the best she can. I think Christine is also trying to put on the best face. She hasn’t had an easy life as you’ll find out throughout the episodes, but I think she’s just trying to hold her family together and I think what people really love about Baskets is the family element.”
You touched on this very briefly but do we get to learn about Christine’s backstory and the romantic relationships she’s had?
Louie Anderson: “I don’t like to give anything away but I will tell you you learn about her heartache and you learn about some of those things that are desires and things that she’d like to do. I’ll just stop there, but you do learn a lot about her and who she is and what she’s made of. Especially this episode you get to meet her mother which is an amazing thing. You get to see where exactly Christine [came from] and who exactly Christine was created from.”
