‘The Strangers – Chapter 1’ Trailer: Beware Mask-Wearing Strangers

A young couple fight for their lives in the official trailer for Lionsgate’s The Strangers – Chapter 1. What was supposed to be a relaxing getaway turns into a battle with psycho killers in the prequel to 2008’s The Strangers.

The 2024 horror film stars Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale), Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), Gabriel Basso (The Night Agent), and Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Renny Harlin directed from a screenplay by Alan R. Cohen and Alan Freedland, based on The Strangers by Bryan Bertino.

Producers include Courtney Solomon, Mark Canton, Christopher Milburn, Gary Raskin, Alastair Burlingham, and Charlie Dombek.

“After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple (Petsch and Gutierrez) are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin,” reads Lionsgate’s synopsis. “Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive in The Strangers – Chapter 1, the chilling first entry of this upcoming horror feature film series.”

The first chapter in the new trilogy opens in theaters on May 17, 2024.

The original The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman was released in May 2008. Made for $9 million, the R-rated horror film grossed $82 million during its theatrical run. The Strangers: Prey at Night with Christina Hendricks and Martin Henderson followed 10 years later and was less successful. Directed by Johannes Roberts, the sequel only brought in $31 million before leaving theaters.

Ghosts Description, Courtesy of CBS:

Ghosts is a single-camera comedy about Samantha (Sam) and Jay, a cheerful freelance journalist and up-and-coming chef from the city, respectively, who threw both caution and money to the wind when they decided to convert Woodstone Mansion, which Sam in inherited, into a bed & breakfast – only to find it was inhabited by the many spirits of deceased residents who now call it home.

The departed souls are a close-knit, eclectic group that includes a saucy Prohibition-era lounge singer (Danielle Pinnock); a pompous 18th-century militiaman (Brandon Scott Jones); an overly upbeat ‘80s scout troop leader (Richie Moriarty); a cod-obsessed Viking explorer from 1009 (Devon Chandler Long); a slick ‘90s finance bro (Asher Grodman); a sarcastic and witty native from the 16th-century (Román Zaragoza); and a society woman and wife of a 19th-century robber baron who is Sam’s ancestor (Rebecca Wisocky), to name a few. The opening of the B&B has been a source of intrigue, anxiety and curiosity among the spirits, but they will gladly put up with the commotion as long as they can continue to interact with a living inhabitant.
