Melissa McCarthy Earns CinemaCon’s Cinema Vérité Award

Melissa McCarthy will be honored with the Cinema Vérité Award at the 2023 CinemaCon. This is the second time CinemaCon has recognized McCarthy with an award. In 2013, McCarthy was named CinemaCon’s Female Star of the Year.

“Melissa McCarthy has had audiences around the world howling in the theaters with such unforgettable performances in films like Bridesmaids, The Heat, and Spy and has left them on the edge of their seats with her memorable roles in Can You Ever Forgive Me?, and St. Vincent to name just a few,” stated Mitch Neuhauser, Managing Director of CinemaCon. “Her upcoming turn in the iconic role of Ursula is sure to entertain audiences across the globe and we couldn’t be more honored to present her with this year’s CinemaCon Cinema Vérité Award.”

CinemaCon, the annual meeting of the National Association of Theatre Owners, runs April 24 – 27, 2023. McCarthy will be presented with the Cinema Vérité Award during the Big Screen Achievement Awards on April 27th.

Melissa McCarthy’s recent credits include Nine Perfect Strangers, God’s Favorite Idiot, The Starling, Thunder Force, and Superintelligence. In 2011, McCarthy was nominated for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in Bridesmaids. And in 2018, she earned a Best Actress nomination for Can You Ever Forgive Me?.

McCarthy will next be seen playing Ursula in the live-action reimagining of The Little Mermaid. Halle Bailey stars as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King is Prince Eric, Tony Award winner Daveed Diggs is the voice of Sebastian, Awkwafina is the voice of Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay is the voice of Flounder. Noma Dumezweni plays Queen Selina, Art Malik is Sir Grimsby, and Oscar winner Javier Bardem is King Triton.

Disney’s The Little Mermaid opens in theaters on May 26, 2023.




‘Talk to Me’ Debuts a Creepy First Trailer

Talk to Me earned high praise after screening at Sundance, and currently sits at 97% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics raved about A24’s new horror film, and now horror fans are invited to check out the first incredibly twisted teaser trailer.

Mashable’s Kristy Puchko describes the film as a “terrifically scary horror offering thanks to powerful performances, creepy creature designs, a splash of blood and gore.” And UPI’s Fred Topel says it “invents a frightening new mythology for conjuring up evil spirits.”

The creepy thriller marks the feature film directorial debut of YouTubers Danny and Michael Philippou. Sophie Wilde, Miranda Otto, Alexandra Jensen, Joe Bird, Otis Dhanji,
Zoe Terakes, and Chris Alosi star.

A24 will open in theaters on July 28, 2023.

‘Joe Pickett’ Season 2 Preview: Photos, Cast, Plot, and Teaser Trailer

Joe Pickett is returning for a second season on June 4, 2023 with Michael Dorman back as the titular character. Season one premiered in December 2021 as a Spectrum Original, but Paramount+ is the show’s new home for its second season.

Season two will launch with the release of the first two episodes on June 4th. New episodes will follow on Sundays.

John Erick Dowdle and Drew Dowdle (Waco, Waco: The Aftermath) guide the series as directors, showrunners, and executive producers. The series is based on C.J. Box’s bestselling book series, and Box is involved as an executive producer along with Red Wagon Entertainment’s Doug Wick and Lucy Fisher.

The release date announcement was accompanied by season two photos and the first teaser trailer for the upcoming season. Paramount+ also released this description of the second season:

“In season two, Wyoming game warden Joe Pickett (Dorman) discovers a hunter murdered in the mountains and realizes his is just one of a series of gruesome murders. To solve the case and catch the killer, Joe must navigate a radical anti-hunting activist, a ghoulish set of twins living off the grid and his own tortured past.

Joe and his wife, Marybeth (Julianna Guill), discover that the murdered men weren’t as innocent as they seemed. But when they dig too deep, they are forced to go on the run and fight for their very lives.”

‘The Marvels’ Teaser Trailer: Teaming Up Changes Everyone

The teaser trailer for Marvel Studios’ The Marvels reveals Carol (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) are going to have to put up with a super enthusiastic Kamala Khan (Iman Vellani) whether they want to or not. Backed by The Beastie Boys’ “Intergalactic,” the trailer teases Kamala’s powers will allow the trio to switch places – even while fighting.

The film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, and Park Seo-joon.

Megan McDonnell, Nia DaCosta, Elissa Karasik and Zeb Wells wrote the screenplay, with DaCosta (2021’s Candyman) directing. Kevin Feige produces, and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos, and Matthew Jenkins executive produce.

The Marvels opens in theaters on November 10, 2023.

Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence. But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Starts Production

HBO did not confirm when we can expect a second season of House of the Dragon, but the network did announce production is now underway on season two. Filming is taking place at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom, with Ryan Condal returning as showrunner.

Condal co-created the series with author George R.R. Martin. Both serve as executive producers along with Sara Hess, Alan Taylor, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Loni Peristere, and Vince Gerardis.

House of the Dragon has returned. We are thrilled to be shooting again with members of our original family as well as new talents on both sides of the camera,” said Condal. “All your favorite characters will soon be conspiring at the council tables, marching with their armies, and riding their dragons into battle. We can’t wait to share what we have in store.”

Season two’s cast includes Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Eve Best as Rhaenys Targaryen, and Steve Toussaint Lord Coryls Velaryon. Fabien Frankel plays Ser Criston Cole, Ewan Mitchell is Aemond Targaryen, Tom Glynn-Carney is Aegon Targaryen, Sonoya Mizuno is Mysaria, and Rhys Ifans is Otto Hightower.

Harry Collett plays Jacaerys Velaryon, Bethany Antonia is Baela Targaryen, Phoebe Campbell is Rhaena Targaryen, Phia Saban is Helaena Targaryen, Jefferson Hall is Lord Jason Lannister, and Matthew Needham is Larys Strong.

Season two will continue the tradition established with season one and will participate in the WBD Access Directors Shadows program. Emerging directors B Welby and Ebele Tate will be mentored by the season two crew.

The season one premiere pulled in the biggest audience in HBO’s new original series history. 20+ million viewers tuned in to check out this prequel set 200 years before Game of Thrones and focusing on House Targaryen (and its dragons).




‘NCIS: Hawaii’ Season 2 Episode 19 Photos, Cast and “Cabin Fever” Promo

CBS’s NCIS: Hawaii is taking a three-week break and will return with an episode that finds Ernie front and center in an investigation. Season two episode 19, “Cabin Fever,” will air on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10pm ET/PT.

Season two stars Vanessa Lachey as Special Agent in Charge Jane Tennant, Alex Tarrant as Kai Holman, Noah Mills as Jesse Boone, and Yasmine Al-Bustami as Lucy Tara. Jason Antoon plays Ernie Malik, Tori Anderson is Kate Whistler, and Kian Talan stars as Alex Tennant.

“Cabin Fever” Plot: After the mysterious death of an astronaut in a highly sensitive Mars simulation, the NCIS team must send Ernie into the habitat to investigate alone.

The Wonder Years stars Alley Mills and Dan Lauria guest star on Fox’s Fantasy Island season two episode 10. “War Of The Roses (And The Hutchinsons) will air on Monday, April 17, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT.

Roselyn Sanchez leads the cast as Elena Roarke, a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke played by Ricardo Montalban in the original ’70s series. Kiara Barnes (The Bold and the Beautiful) plays Ruby Akuda and John Gabriel Rodriguez (Rosewood) stars as Javier.

Episode 10’s guest stars also include Brandon Scott (Grey’s Anatomy) and Devika Bhise (The Man Who Knew Infinity).

“War Of The Roses (And The Hutchinsons)” Plot: A middle-aged couple and a younger couple arrive separately with their own unique fantasies. All is going well until the couples discover they’re sharing the island; turns out they’re feuding neighbors. The Island forces them into a magical, winner-takes-all competition that reveals unexpected alliances and unravels complicated relationships.

Meanwhile, Javier and Roarke finally have a conversation about their relationship.

A modern drama series, Fantasy Island takes place at a luxury resort, where literally any fantasy requested by guests is fulfilled, although they rarely turn out as expected. Delving into the “what if” questions – both big and small – that keep us awake at night, each episode will tell emotional, provocative stories about people who arrive with dreams and desires and depart enlightened and transformed through the magical realism of Fantasy Island.

Serving as steward of this mysterious island is Elena Roarke (Sanchez), a descendant of the iconic Mr. Roarke. Elena set aside her own ambitions, and even the love of her life, to uphold her family’s legacy. Sophisticated, insightful, and always charming, her calm exterior masks the challenges of the responsibilities she has assumed. Assisting Elena is Ruby Akuda (Barnes), a young woman with an old soul who arrives on Fantasy Island with a terminal illness, and is given a new lease on life there; and pilot Javier (Rodriquez), who also is the head of island transportation and a jack of all trades.

An attack on a ballerina sets the team in motion on CBS’s FBI: International season two episode 17. Directed by Eduardo Sanchez from a script by Kristina Thomas, episode 17 – “Jealous Mistress” – will air on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at 9pm ET/PT.

Season two stars Luke Kleintank as Special Agent Scott Forrester, Heida Reed as Special Agent Jamie Kellett, Carter Redwood as Special Agent Andre Raines, Vinessa Vidotto as Special Agent Cameron Vo, and Eva-Jane Willis as Europol Agent Megan “Smitty” Garretson.

“Jealous Mistress” Plot: The Fly Team heads to Vienna to find the culprit of an acid attack on a rising American prima ballerina. Also, Smitty receives some troubling intel from a familiar face.

FBI: International is the third iteration of the successful FBI brand that follows the elite operatives of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s International Fly Team. Headquartered in Budapest, they travel throughout Europe with the mission of tracking and neutralizing threats against American citizens wherever they may be, putting their lives on the line to protect the U.S. and its people. The Fly Team’s Special Agent Scott Forrester, their accomplished and dedicated leader, puts his missions ahead of his personal life and is often accompanied by his trusty Schutzhund dog, Tank.

Second in command is Special Agent Jamie Kellett, a heroic and fearless investigator – and her extensive network of informants is a powerful resource. Special Agent Andre Raines shines in the field and makes good use of his accounting background in tracking criminal enterprises’ moving money; and Special Agent Cameron Vo, a competitive West Point grad who excels at interrogation and strategy. NBC Renews ‘Law & Order’ and ‘Chicago’ Franchises for 2023-2024

NBC has officially renewed their Chicago and Law & Order franchises for the upcoming 2023-2024 primetime season. The Dick Wolf-produced dramas have been ratings winners for the network, with the three Chicago shows – Chicago P.D., Chicago Fire, and Chicago Med – earning spots on the top 10 list for total viewers.

Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, and Law & Order: Organized Crime have pulled in nearly 50 million viewers via NBC and Peacock, according to the network.

“I’m pleased to continue my four-decade relationship with Universal Television and NBC,” stated executive producer Dick Wolf. “All six shows being picked up again is the ultimate accolade to our incredible casts, producers, and writers. I’d also like to thank our loyal fans who have kept our NBC shows on the air for what will be a cumulative 84 seasons.”

Chicago Fire will return for season 12, Chicago P.D. was renewed for season 11, and Chicago Med earned a ninth season. The granddaddy of them all – Law & Order – picked up a 23rd season order. Law & Order: SVU was renewed for season 25 and Law and Order: Organized Crime is sticking around for season four.

“We understand the emotional connection our audience has with these characters and we can’t wait to bring more of their stories to the forefront next season,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCUniversal and Streaming. “A huge thank you to Dick and his amazing team who are the masters of producing incredibly compelling television week after week.”




‘The Blacklist’ Season 10 Episode 8 Photos, Cast, and “Troll Farmer Pt. 2” Plot

NBC’s The Blacklist dives back into the story of the Troll Farmer, a blacklister played by Aaron Yoo and introduced in the first episode of season three. Season 10 episode eight, “The Troll Farmer Pt. 2,” will air on Sunday, April 16, 2023 at 10pm ET/PT.

The final season cast is led by James Spader as Raymond “Red” Reddington. Diego Klattenhoff stars as Donald Ressler, Hisham Tawfiq plays Dembe Zuma, Anya Banerjee is Siya Malik, and Harry Lennix stars as Harold Cooper.

“The Troll Farmer Pt. 2” Plot: The Task Force investigates a series of social media conspiracies that simulate dangerous public attacks. When a top-secret government program is stolen, the team works to uncover the Troll Farmer’s involvement.

The Season 10 Plot:
