‘Alone: Frozen’ Season 1 Episode 4 Recap: “Bone Cold”

Alone Frozen Season 1 Callie

The History Channel’s Alone: Frozen season one episode four finds the remaining four survivalists doing a pretty decent job of hunting. It’s incredibly challenging and the temperature’s dipping, but all four contestants are still alone in the Labrador wilderness by the end of the episode.

“Bone Cold” begins with 39 days remaining in the season and takes the countdown down to 36 days left for a share of the $500,000 prize.

Callie Russell, Age 34, Montana – Season 7, Survived 89 Days

39 Days Left: It’s 35 degrees and raining when we catch up with Callie. She’s a bit nauseous from starting her period and didn’t eat yesterday. Today, she’s thirsty and hungry but is having a tough time getting out of bed because she’s tired.

(FYI: Contestants are supplied with menstrual products.)

She finally makes it out of her shelter and works on building a grouse trap. She picks a good spot and sets up a large trap while noting her main concern is not being able to find enough food. She dubs her trap “The Amazing Grouse Getter 2000” and explains she’s using bunchberries and beachgrass for bait. When the grouse lands on a branch by the bait, it will fall into a funnel and be unable to fly away.

Callie believes having a 50-day target is easier than not knowing how many days she’ll have to spend in the wild.

38 Days Left: Callie’s never eaten sea ice before and takes a bite. She describes it as tasting like a potato chip – salty and crunchy. After a brief snack, she checks her traplines. The first three traps are empty, and the Grouse Getter didn’t catch anything either.

Season seven of Alone taught her to love herself and she’s taking that lesson into this season. However, she’s starting to doubt that the land has everything she needs. She becomes emotional as she realizes that without more food, her body won’t last much longer.

37 Days Left: The sun’s out and Callie’s enjoying it before getting to work. She went to bed hungry and she’s still hopeful there’s something in her trapline. She puts herself into a positive mind space before walking her trapline.

She spooks a grouse right off the bat and although she’s weak, she takes a shot. It’s a kill! Callie has a huge smile as she holds the grouse up to the camera and then gives it kisses. She’s incredibly grateful and believes things are turning around.

She processes the bird in the sunshine while thanking the dead creature for its life. She shows off the little stones inside the grouse’s crop. (These birds eat stones to help break down their food.) The bird’s organs are in great shape.

She saved the grouse for dinner so she can go to bed with a full belly. It felt good to make a kill just to reaffirm the land will provide.

Amós Rodriguez, Age 41, Indiana – Season 7, Survived 58 Days

39 Days Left: Today Amós plans to check on his snares and set up a few more. He really wants to get busy hunting and hopes to find a bear. He made his own bow and believes that gives him a deeper connection to his food. Amós’ goal is long-term food security – that’s what it will take to remain in the competition for 50 days.

He spots a bear trail and reminds himself to stay alert. Black bears return to the same area for food, and Amós comes across what he thinks is its bed. There’s a strong odor of urine, lots of bear scat, and an area littered with bones where it’s been eating.

Amós explains he increased the weight of his bow and arrows specifically for hunting a black bear.

He comes upon one of his snares and finds it caught a snowshoe hare. Returning to camp, he cooks up his hare, disappointed he didn’t find a bear but not ready to give up.

(Alone informs viewers that black bears have a 560-pound swipe force and can kill a human with a single blow. It’s also noted the bear’s den is just 1/3 mile from Amós’ shelter.)

36 Days Left: He heads out on another bear hunt and finds the bird he shot 12 days earlier. It’s dead and definitely not in good shape. Other birds have been picking at it and since there’s not much left, he’s going to use it for bait for the bear. He also finds the arrow he lost 12 days ago.

He hears another bird and takes a shot. He hits it but it’s not a kill shot so has to put it out of its misery.

Back at his shelter Amós prepares bird soup. He cooks it up while reminding himself he must stay alert and mentally aware of his surroundings.

Later, his fire’s roaring as the temperature drops. The wind’s kicking up and he realizes he needs to do much more work on his shelter because it’s going to get really chilly overnight.

Alone Frozen Season 1 Michelle
Michelle in season 1 of The History Channel’s ‘Alone: Frozen’

Michelle Finn, Age 47, Maine – Season 8, Survived 21 Days

38 Days Left: Michelle admits to making a bad decision. She unspooled her 300 yards of fishing line using only her headlamp for light and now it’s a tangled mess. She laughs and says, “Needless to say, maybe those kinds of decisions shouldn’t be made in the early morning hours.”

Hours later, she’s untangled her line and with snow coming down she sets out to do some fishing. First, she’ll check her traps. She’s been existing on clams and mussels and realizes she needs a fatty animal added to her diet.

Unfortunately, her first snare’s empty. As she’s walking the trapline, Michelle reveals she had teeth and eyesight issues after starving on Alone season eight. She’s determined to not experience that this time.

She comes across a freshly dead Canada Jay that she thinks might have been dropped by a hawk. She’s decided to put off fishing for a while so she can prepare the bird. There’s no evidence of parasites so she thinks it’ll be okay, but she’ll boil it well before eating it.

Her first bite is super tough but good. She describes it as having “that dark meat flavor.”

Alone Frozen Season 1 Woniya
Woniya in season 1 of The History Channel’s ‘Alone: Frozen’

Woniya Thibeault, Age 45, California – Season 6, Survived 73 Days

39 Days Left: Woniya shows off her Alone secret weapon – the world’s largest sweater. It didn’t count against her 10 items, and she’s able to use cordage from it to mark her snares. She took a course in trapping prior to this season, and she feels more confident now than she did in season six.

She spotted rabbit poop earlier and thinks she’s found a rabbit habitat. She sets up snares in a natural pinch point and marks them with red yarn from her sweater. If she doesn’t snag a rabbit, she hopes she’ll catch something that preys on them.

The mussel harvest on the beach has been getting less each day.

(Alone notes that contestants are allowed to trap and eat squirrel and rabbit predators, such as foxes.)

38 Days Left: Woniya takes her laundry down to the lake and is happy to have fresh-smelling clothes. After dropping off her laundry, she heads out to check her traplines.

Woniya has had hunger pains most of the day and explains that it took two years for her body to feel normal after her first experience on Alone. Her time in the Arctic destroyed her teeth and she doesn’t have much enamel left. She might tap early if she doesn’t get food on a regular basis this time.

Woniya’s overjoyed to discover one of her traps has caught a rabbit. This is her first successful trapping this season, and she’s happy the rabbit appears to have died quickly. She’s appreciative of the rabbit and is going to cook up the hare in mussel broth.

If hunting is approached the right way, Woniya thinks it can be a beautiful, reciprocal, loving act.

She plans on using the front paws as bait for a fox. She’ll keep the back ones for luck.

The hare’s kidneys are large, considering the animal’s small size. Plus, rabbit liver has more vitamin A and B12 than apples or carrots, and Woniya thinks it’s the best liver on the planet.

Later that night she takes her first bites of the rabbit and says it’s so good she could cry.

Brad Beale, Vice President, Worldwide Licensing for Prime Video stated, “We can’t wait to break new ground and bring The English to Prime Video. We know Hugo Blick’s incredible tale of love, loss, and revenge – brought to life on screen by the talented Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer, and the entire cast of The English – will captivate Prime members across the globe.”

Prime Video released the following synopsis of the limited series:

The series takes the core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, power, and love. An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke (Blunt), and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp (Spencer), come together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood. Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny, but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past.

They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their limits, physically and psychologically. But as each obstacle is overcome, it draws them closer to their ultimate destination – the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. It is here, after an investigation by the local sheriff Robert Marshall (Rea) and young widow Martha Myers (Pachner) into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders, that the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood, and they will come face-to-face with the future they must live.

‘Mr. Harrigan’s Phone’ Photos: First Look at the Stephen King Adaptation

Netflix has released the first photos from Mr. Harrigan’s Phone, a 2022 film based on a short story by Stephen King. Adapted and directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side), Mr. Harrigan’s Phone stars Donald Sutherland as Harrigan and Jaeden Martell as a young man who befriends the elderly Hannigan.

While most, but definitely not all, of Stephen King’s work scares the hell out of readers, Hancock describes this particular story as more of a cautionary fairy tale.

“More than anything, it’s about an odd relationship between a billionaire in his 80s and a [young man] and the bonds of friendship, and how far will you go for a friend?” writer/director Hancock said in an interview with Netflix’s TUDUM. “Do you like Shawshank Redemption, do you like Stand By Me, do you like Green Mile, do you like a ton of other Stephen King? My take on it was, it’s in the fashion of Brothers Grimm.”

In addition to Martell and Sutherland, the cast includes Joe Tippett, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Cyrus Arnold, Colin O’Brien, Thomas Francis Murphy, and Peggy J. Scott. Ryan Murphy, Jason Blum, and Carla Hacken served as producers.

Mr. Harrigan’s Phone premieres on Wednesday, October 5, 2022.

The Plot, Courtesy of Netflix:

When Craig, a young boy living in a small town (Martell) befriends Mr. Harrigan, an older, reclusive billionaire (Sutherland), the two begin to form an unlikely bond over their love of books and reading. But when Mr. Harrigan sadly passes away, Craig discovers that not everything is dead and gone and strangely finds himself able to communicate with his friend from the grave through the iPhone in this supernatural coming-of-age story that shows that certain connections are never lost.

Harley Quinn Season 4 Poster

HBO Max’s popular comic book-inspired animated series Harley Quinn has been renewed for a fourth season. The official announcement from the streaming service arrived with three new season three episodes still to air.

Kaley Cuoco will return to voice the titular role and Lake Bell is back on board as Poison Ivy. The season three voice cast also includes Ron Funches as King Shark, JB Smoove as Frank the Plant, Alan Tudyk as Clayface/The Joker, and Matt Oberg as Kite Man. Christopher Meloni voices Commissioner Gordon, Andy Daly is Two-Face, Diedrich Bader is Batman/Bruce Wayne, James Adomian is Bane, Sanaa Lathan is Selina Kyle, Briana Cuoco is Batgirl/Barbara Gordon, and Harvey Guillen is Nightwing.

Writer and consulting producer Sarah Peters (Workaholics) will take over as showrunner for season four. Peters has been with the series since the first season.

“Three seasons down and I can’t even begin to think about the new levels of chaos and trouble that Harley, Ivy, and the gang can get into with a fourth season,” said Peter Girardi, Executive Vice President, Alternative Programming, Warner Bros. Animation. “But I’m grateful to our partners at HBO Max for continuing this insane ride with us so we can all find out.”

Harley Quinn is based on DC characters and was developed by executive producer Justin Halpern, executive producer Patrick Schumacker, and Dean Lorey. Kaley Cuoco, Sam Register, Jessica Goldstein, and Chrissy Pietrosh are also involved as executive producers.

“We are ecstatic that HBO Max wants the story of Harley and Ivy to continue. And we are equally thrilled that this next season will be in great hands with Sarah Peters as our showrunner and Ceci Aranovich overseeing animation production, as they have both greatly influenced the show with their brilliance since the beginning,” stated executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker.

Commenting on the renewal, Billy Wee, Senior Vice President of Comedy & Animation, HBO Max stated: “Patrick Schumacker, Justin Halpern and their incredible team of artists and writers have created something so explosively funny and original and we are thrilled to continue this journey with them and the show’s legion of fans. It has been amazing to watch the show grow and evolve this season and we could not ask for a more talented and dedicated team of collaborators.”

Season three premiered on July 28, 2022, and will wrap up on September 15.

The Season 3 Plot: In season three of the biting and uproarious adult animated comedy series, Harley Quinn (Cuoco) and Poison Ivy (Bell) wrap up their “Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour” and return to Gotham as the new power couple of DC villainy. Along with their ragtag crew – King Shark (Funches), Clayface (Tudyk), Frank the Plant (Smoove) – “Harlivy” strives to become the best version of themselves while also working towards Ivy’s long desired plan of transforming Gotham into an Eden paradise.

‘The Equalizer’ Season 3 Episode 1: Plot, Photos, Cast and Premiere Date

Season three of CBS’s The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah will further explore the intermingling of McCall’s vigilante work with her personal life. Season three episode one, “Boom,” was directed by Eric Laneuville and will air on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at 8:30pm ET/PT.

In addition to Queen Latifah as Robyn McCall, season three stars Tory Kittles as Detective Marcus Dante, Adam Goldberg as Harry Keshegian, Liza Lapira as Melody “Mel” Bayani, and Laya DeLeon Hayes as Delilah. Lorraine Toussaint returns as Viola “Vi” Marsette. Brett Dalton, Gabriel Sloyer, Chris Vance, and Stephen Bishop recur.

In a May 2022 interview, Queen Latifah spoke to Variety about the importance of representation. “Telling these stories is very, very important because we’re representing people who really need to see some justice met. They need to see their stories told and to see the good guys win, and, in this case, the good gal,” said Queen Latifah. “And there’s not a lot of shows on TV that are doing that. That does happen in real life, believe it or not, but we don’t often get to see it, so here’s an opportunity to show it on a regular basis, and some of the difficulties that it requires in order to make things right. Unfortunately, some things are never made right, but we try.”

“Boom.” Plot: In the aftermath of her abduction, the walls between McCall’s family and vigilante life continue to crumble as those closest to her must come together for the first time to save her.
